Oh how I love thee! Let me count the ways...

Peasant salad has a lot of olives.
    Roasted lemon potatoes are fantastic.
    Rice pilaf is flavorful.
    Grilled octopus is succulent.
Beets; the fact they offer it is a plus.
Kyclades Special solves the problem when you can't decide should you have shrimps or scallops.
Bass (forgot which one) is in-friggin'-credible.
Free dessert, best sweet thang I had in a long time.

Thanks to my cute mistress, my Greek senses have awakened! And oh yeah, thanks Taverna Kyclades, for taking care of my burning desire to consume all delicious seafood possible!

I've eaten here a number of times with groups of friends and some of the best Greek seafood (and seafood in general) you'll get in the area.  Almost every night, this place is packed with a line even when I stroll by on a Monday night run.  Expect about a 30-40 minute wait.  You can generally write down your name and then walk down the block and grab a drink somewhere.

I don't think there's anything I didn't like here.  I'll just list all the things I've had here: grilled octopus, antipasto salad, lemon potatoes, grape leaves, fried scallops (mammoth scallops), baby shark, salmon, branzino, red snapper and more.

The grilled octopus is a must get as an appetizer.  It's so tender and juicy and topped with balsamic and olive oil.  So GOOD!

Even though I gave this place 4 Stars, I'm surprised it's not above 4 stars on average.

    Ugh.
Hate it when I take people to a place, raving about how good it was last year and then sure enough it is nowhere near as good.
Best dish was the grilled salmon.
The tzatziki sauce - MUCH better last time.  This was a disappointment.
Lemon potatoes also much better last time.  (they need to use a better quality potato.  Again, this is cost cutting)
Horta- pretty terrible, drenched in oil.
Rice- tasted like it was sitting around quite a while.
Greek salad- excellent feta still but the salad was much fresher/better last time around.

Good thing the 3 salmon dishes were good!  (other was the sole and this was a bit blah but okay).

Excellent seafood! I tried the crab meat stuffed fillet, lemon potatoes, and my date's scallops and fried potatoes. I liked the lemon potatoes better, the fried potatoes were not what you think of "fried" at all, not greasy, a little dry, would probably need some ketchup or olive oil to dip them. We also ordered a bottle of pinot noir for mid-$20s, perfect. Dinner left us drunk and full of seafood with plenty of leftovers. Would give 5 stars, but the wait was SO LONG. It took 90minutes for our food to get to our table, from the time we put our name on the waiting list. There was even a waiting list past 9:30pm on a Wed night, so you know the food is worth the wait!

I hardly ever give bad reviews but the terrible service I received here needs to be mentioned.
While I love the food at Kyclades I have to say that the servers are generally rude and do not know how to respect their customers. I understand  that the resturant gets very very busy and it is a hectic environment but general manners are still expected. On more than one occasion my group and I received nasty attitudes from the main waitress and were basically rushed through the whole meal. Kyclades offers amazing and fresh seafood that deserves at least 4 stars but the service here is just unacceptable.

I've lived in Astoria for about three and a half years now, and every time I walk to Alba's or Martha's, I would pass by this place and think two things:

    1) How the heck to you pronounce "Kyclades"?
    2) Dang, that place is busting at the seams with people waiting for a table. Must be good.

Cut to about 6 months ago, I'm having dinner in Denver of all places and I meet a couple from Brooklyn who instantly recommended this place to me when they found out I lived in the area.  Okay, now I gotta go.

It was more pricey than I would normally spring for, so when my parents got into town last night and wanted to get dinner, I knew where to take their generous pocket books.  Let me caveat this by saying, the prices are fair for the quality and quantity of food, and I would gladly pay to go back.

For starters, go with a small group (no more than, say 6.  There was a wait on a Wednesday night at 5pm, okay?  It's that popular) and SHARE SHARE SHARE!!  We took home 6 containers of leftovers.  Three people-6 to go boxes.  Generous portions is an understatement.

We were fortunate enough to get a table right away since we got there just before 5, but soon there was a line.

The three of us thought it best to order a large Greek salad to share in addition to our entrees.  The salad came out quick and was piled with fresh tomatoes, red onions, olives, peppers and two huge hunks of Feta.  A light dressing (basic vinaigrette) with oregano completed it.  Each of us were able to have two servings.  With the salad came the bread: Two massive loaf halves, sliced, and simply drizzled with olive oil and herbs.  Taste and texture was similar to a baguette, but with perhaps some egg added to the mix.  My folks and I can put away some serious bread, and we only managed to complete one of the halves.

    The entrees arrived.

My dad had the Grilled calamari which was an entire plate piled with with beautifully grilled squid.  Regretfully, I didn't catch a bite but both he and my mother were raving about it.  He got the rice on the side which was rather basic, but flavorful.

My mother got a Chicken Kabob.  There were bout 6 generous piceces of chicken mingles with the typical peppers and onions, served with lettuce, tomatoes, and some mind blowing Tzatziki.  She ordered the Lemon Potatoes as her side dish which were warm, soft, zesty, and over all just life affirming.

I got the Greek Style Shrimp.  My dish took an extra couple of minutes to come out but it was well worth the wait.  I wasn't sure what Greek Style Shrimp would entail since the menu offered  no explanation, but I figured "What the hey?"  Out comes a large gratain dish piled with a sauce of tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, and some intense flavors (that didn't over power) and topped with gently melted feta.  Burried benath all of this was 5 gigantic shimps.  Five shirmp may sound measly, but given their size and the portions of the rest of the food I couldn't have cared less.  I only managed to eat two, and soax up a bunch of the sauce with some of the bread.  I also ordered the lemon potatoes which I would reccomend to everyone dining there.

One of the waiters boxed up the plentiful amount of leftovers (like, enought to feed me for a week) and then lets us know that dessert is on the house.  Either they were impressed we each decided to have our own entree and gave it us as a reward (not very likely) or they do it for everyone (likely).  Anyway, out comes a delicious greek pastry.  Light filo dough crust on the bottom and top of a light custard made with some serious pastry skill and the hopes and dreams of the fat child within us all.  A honey syrup on the bottom, and a generous sprinkling of cinnamon on top, made woofing down the whole thing a piece of cake (no pun intended).

What I loved most of all was the definate family-owned-and-operated vibe, and the simple, fresh, and rustic food and atmosphere.  They clearly are giving Astorians the most authentic Greek Seafood experience they can give without putting us on a plane to Athens, and don't set out to be anything more than that.

This place is well worth a ride out to Queens for those who don't live in the Borough.

2 words come to mind when I think of Taverna Kyclades:  FOOD.ORGASM.

I absolutely love coming here for dinner. I've always had to wait at least 20-30 mins (longest wait I've had was almost 2 hours on a Saturday night for a table for 4) but it's been worth the wait every time. While you wait, the hostess does ocassionally bring over free wine so that helps too!

As soon as you walk in you smell the heavenly, delicious Greek food. I've had their grilled calamari, fried calamari and my favorite dish to get- the broiled scallops! Usually when I come here with my boyfriend, we get a greek salad to start off with and split the broiled scallops entree (with comes with a side- we like getting their rice). With all that, bread and then the complimentary dessert (absolutely delcious- I'm a chocolate fanatic but the traditional greek dessert you get here is definitely one of the best I've ever had!), we always leave very full and satisfied.

Everything else on the menu looks just as amazing so you'd be good with whatever you choose to get -- their whole fishes seem like popular choices as well as a seafood platter which has shrimp, fish and scallops.

One of my favorite restaurants in Astoria!

Our favorite thing to get here is the Grilled Octopus. I think I can eat a whole order by myself and be satisfied. Both the Greek Salad and the Peasant Salad are good options. As for entree, we've been going down the list and trying each of them. Our favorites so far are the Swordfish Kebab with vegetables and the Fried Whiting. For sides, we usually get the rice and the lemon potatoes.

The thing I hate most about coming here is the wait! It's always packed in here! But, the waitstaff is friendly and offers wine to those waiting for a table.

Okay the prices are good, but if you take -out anything here and get the salad you just get something like someone gives a cow to feet, just   oil at the bottom nothing else, I mean hello... make the salad ready to eat please, after a few times of take-out this is the only think I remember, I have forgotten the fresh seafood  : /

Not a big deal but it didn't help improve my impression of the place.

Taverna Kyclades: Great Greek Grub in Astoria

You always hear Manhattanites talk about the beer garden in Astoria, but it's also known for its diverse population.  And what comes with a diverse population? Eclectic and authentic cuisine.  I've lived in Manhattan for several years now, and I have to admit, I've never been to Astoria.  We finally decided to take a trip out there (only 30-40 min from Midtown Manhattan) and stopped at the infamous Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden.  I'll definitely be going back to Astoria, possibly for the beer garden but definitely for the food.

For my first time out there, I wanted to make sure I tried the best of the best. After some research online and asking friends, I settled on Taverna Kyclades. I've heard waits can be over an hour, but I guess we were lucky because we sat down right away (went on a Sunday at 2pm). Strangely enough, the line was longer after we finished eating around 3pm.

Walk in and you see a bunch of Greek families eating, a sign the food is good and authentic. To start, we tried the grilled octopus, fried calamari, pan-fried Greek cheese and Greek salad.  All were pretty delicious.

The Grilled Octopus ($12.95) was served above a thin layer of oil and red vinegar and was cooked perfectly, not overcooked and rubbery.

The Fried Calamari ($9.95) was probably up there with the best I've had.  The breading is well-seasoned and you get a hint of lemon.  It was good enough to eat on its own, unlike others that have to rely on the marinara sauce to add flavor.

The Pan-Fried Greek Cheese ($6.95) had a thin layer of breading, and the cheese oozed out as you cut into it. Meanwhile, the Greek Salad (Large - $10.95) was enough to share between the four of us and had amazingly fresh and tasty feta.

For our entrees, we ordered family style and went with the Branzino (Mediterranean Sea Bass) with a side of Horta (steamed dandelion) (MP; $28 for us) and Roasted Lemon Potatoes ($5.75). They brought out the entire fish (skin, bones and all) and you can either cut it up yourself or they will do it for you. If you're looking for a fresh fish, this is for you.  The fish was cooked well and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the most flavorful.

The roasted lemon potatoes were solid and a good choice for a side. However, I wouldn't get the Horta again. It tasted like steamed spinach, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when you have the option to get rice, fried potatoes, beets or lemon potatoes instead, I would go for one of the other options.

One last thing to top off this feast - Greek dessert on the house, similar to a flan with filo dough (I obviously don't know what it was, but it was delicious).

My bf and I went there on a Sunday night at 8:30.  The place was packed and we waited a half an hour for a seat.  After reading the reviews from fellow yelpers and seeing the long line for a table, my expectations were high.

We started off with a greek salad.  That was definitely delicious.  The salad was really fresh and the block of feta was creamy and delicious and not overly salty.  After eating this great salad I thought the rest of the meal would be great.  We ordered the grilled squid with fried potatoes and the broiled scallops with lemon potatoes.  The grilled squid was very disappointing.  It looked great, but it just tasted burnt and a little chewy.  The fried potatoes were tasteless and not crispy at all.  The scallops were OK.  So were the lemon potatoes.  Nothing great.

The greatest disappointment was no dessert.  I was looking forward to the galaktoboureko that came complimentary with your meal.  It turned out that day they didn't make it....wah, wah, wah.

Yes, the portions are enormous and almost everyone takes lots home.......Yes, there is always a wait. We waited an hour and fifteen minutes for a table for two at 5:30 on a Saturday night. Yes, they offer free house wine to those who are waiting.....and yes the meal concludes with a bonus, custard desert. As for the food....it was average at best. The half a loaf of crispy, warm Italian bread was sopping in oil.....The peasant salad was OK but nothing extraordinary.....The fried calamari was chewy and the chicken kebab was overcooked and charred. The lemon potatoes were horrible........Would we ever return again.......absolutely not.

If you love large portions of succulent sea scallops, tender juicy octopus, perfectly cooked whole fishes this restaurant is it.  The usual 40 min to an hour waiting time (weekday night) isn't so bad considering the large portions and high quality of the food.  Hopefully moving to the larger place across the street will cut down the wait time. After eating here a few times, I have a hard time settling for lesser seafood.  Hence I have resorted to takeout on their busier nights. It is the best way to get quality seafood fix without the wait.  Just keep in mind that the seafood gets a bid more cooked by the time you get home due to heat trapped in the containers.   From my over half dozen meal s here, I had no complaints about the wait staff or service. The place is busy almost every night of the week; the staffs are zipping around the dining area at high speed. They are on point and quick to return with your request.  I have not experienced rudeness or snappy attitudes.  They are a diligent bunch.  I appreciate the hard working attitude.  Since I prefer the taste of crustaceans and cephalopods over fishes my favorites dishes are: Grilled Octopus, Fried Calamari, Broiled Scallops, Kyclades Special (when you can't decide). Always get Peasant Salad as an appetizer, even my carnivore friends likes this salad.

TK's food is no longer what it use to be. I was really really disappointed with quality on the last trip there - fish was done nicely, but didn't taste so well. Squid tasted like shoes sole. Even simple item like lemon potato was aweful.

This used to be "the" Greek place, and didn't mind waiting. However, my recent experience made me re-think and now I just go to Stamatias instead.

The decor is well below average, and this is not a place you want to take someone for a special occasion.  If you are really hungry, and want a nice healthy portion of fresh fish, that is usually cooked right, then this is where you want to go.. Is  this place worth waiting in line for? Absolutely not.. The lemon potatoes are edible, but they are too mushy, and regular baby potatoes that are roasted taste better than these do.. This place seemed to start getting busy right after the economy tanked, a few yrs back, so I'm assuming people are looking for more food for their money these days, hence the long lines.. For me, the main part of the meal that stood out, was the desert they give you after dinner..

I suspect people may be giving this place 4-star and 5-star reviews because other people have told them that this place is great. I would probably describe the food as decent to good fare. But with all the other great Greek options in Astoria why would you choose this place?

Helpful Hint: The long waits can be avoided if you get there on or before 6PM, and even when the lines are huge they often hand out free wine to those in line. So there's really no need to endure, or to complain about the long lines for that matter.

There are so many places that I absolutely love going that I am extremely hesitant to review, because I tend to want to keep the good places to myself 0=). However, Taverna Kyclades is SO GOOD and SO CROWDED anyway, so I figure that I may as well share this one.

As a greek girl with a large and opinionated greek family, it is hard to find a place that my family will like. Every year for my birthday I take my family somewhere different, and they ALWAYS complain about the restaurant. Last year I took my family to Taverna Kyclades and they didn't complain once- I was in shock. Actually, I am continually in shock because they keep begging me to take them back!! The fact that my extremely picky family likes a restaurant is, to me,  a sign that a place is awesome. And Taverna Kyclades is in fact awesome.

I love their grilled calamari and lemon potatoes. They also have really great calamari, shark, and greek salad. A good portion of my family doesn't eat fish, and they found salads and entrees that they loved as well (chicken/pork souvlaki, saganaki-fried greek cheese). They also have a really good FREE galaktoboureko (custardy-phyllo dessert). NOM.

A couple things to consider: 1. It gets extremely crowded, extremely early. You will always see huge crowds waiting outside... and it will stay crowded all night as well. They do have room for your large (greek) family, which is good. But you should go early and put your name down, and be prepared to wait awhile.

    2. For some reason, it is very hot inside. If you can, try to get an outside table.

    3. It's very loud. Think: lots of crazy loud greek people all over. If you are used to this, it's no big deal. If you're not, be prepared to have to talk very loudly.

    4. You can pay the bill with credit card, but cannot tip with your credit card. Make sure to bring cash for tips!

This place rocks!  So good and authentic simple seafood focused menu (steak, lamb, & pork available and good).  I recommend front loading the meal with appetizers.  The fried smelts, fried cheese, peasant salad, and dips is always a winner.  Take your pick of the fresh whole grilled fish.  The service is very attentive and efficient.  The dining room is tight and small and the wait is usually an hour plus, but worth it.  Just when you think it can't get any better, they give you this hearty desert (free!!!) of a decadent custard cooked in a phyllo dough.   By the way, the prices do not match the quality of the food.  Would happily travel two toll bridges and deal with traffic to eat here again.  I would recommend getting there by 5pm as to keep the wait under and hour.

I was here over the weekend  on a trip to NY to visit some good friends of mine. One of them recommended this place and insisted we go here because it's the best Greek food in town.

There were 5 of us so we decided to do our meal family style and order pretty much every appetizer on the menu. The friend cheese and the octopus were both fantastic! Definitely my favorites from the table that night. The lemon potatoes were also delicious. The food was all very fresh, seasoned well and came out very quickly.

The main grievance I have and the reason I subtracted 2 stars is because of the way they treat the wait list. You have to get there early to get your name on the list and will normally have a long wait time (from what i'm told).  We got there around 6-615 and were told 1 hour 20 minutes. Every time we checked back the wait was longer and longer still. We didn't end up being seated until 9. I just think they should be a bit more honest about the wait times that way we as patrons can be more realistic about if we will wait and if we do what we will be doing for those long periods of time.

Oh. My. Yum. I walked in this place and just the smell immediately transported me back to my honeymoon in the Greek Islands. The first thing I said to my husband was "it smells like Greece in here." I knew the food was going to be amazing and was not disappointed. They even managed to have bright red and juicy tomatoes in March! Do yourself a favor and order the grilled octopus, it's the best I've ever had.  You cannot go wrong here. If you have been to Greece and are feeling nostalgic, this is the place to go!

One of my favorite restaurants in New York. Incredibly fresh seafood, the shrimp and potatoes are to die for, the atmosphere is really cute/crowded/home-like. A carafe of white wine with a salad...only reason I go to Queens on purpose.
There's something very charming about being packed into a tiny restaurant with strangers, delicious food, and great customer service.

Holy crap. I think I'm still full from my meal last night.

My friend moved to Astoria recently and she scoped out this place because she's quite the foodie. We had to wait for over an hour to be seated, BUT I was warned about the probably, long wait and, anyway, we were given wine on the house while we were waiting. Either way, it was well worth the wait for this huge, delicious, authentic Greek meal.

We ordered a bunch of dishes for the table to share... I'm sure you can order your own dishes, but I wouldn't recommend that. Everything was delicious... fried calamari, spinach pie, tzatziki, stuffed shrimp with crabmeat, lemon potatoes, chicken, garlic bread with olive oil, Greek salad, and a complimentary dessert. Now you can understand why I was so full.

We each paid $16 each, including tip. For seven people. We couldn't believe how cheap the bill was. The food came out in waves, which I loved. Service was really quick, too.

If you're in the area and looking for authentic Greek food, I would 100% recommend this place. Bring some comfy pants because you'll need 'em.

Excellent selection of fresh fish prepared just like in the motherland of Greece.

Fast and efficient service despite high traffic.

I recommend the Mediterranean Sea Bass with rice.  Fried Calamari, Saganaki, and Grilled Shrimp to start.  Wash it down with a Mythos and you will swear you are in Greece!

Expect to wait in line here, there are no reservations taken.  Tip your waiter in cash.  It is worth it!

5 stars even though i was told i had to wait 45 minutes and clearly waited over an hour!

everything was AMAZING!!! from the loaf of toasted baguettes over extra virgin olive oil, down to the dessert thats on the house.

This place is very busy! went on a friday night during lent (no meat on fridays for catholics) craving fried shrimp like it was no ones business. We checked on Yelp and seen they had it on the menu and drove over.

after looking over the menu for an hour, we (my fiance and i) decided lets do a bunch of appetizers, a salad and share an entree. We started with the crab stuffed baked clams. OMG it was literally like a crab cake on top of a baked clam. absolutely delicious. then we ordered the spinach pie, and fried peppers. Again, delicious. everything had so much flavor an was prepared perfectly.

Then we ordered the greek salad. Lettuce, 2 BLOCKS of feta on top, red onion, calamata olives, and ALOT of tomato in red wine vinegar. the salad was ginormous, and refreshing. i loved every bite of it except the tomatoes. (not a fan)

the fried shrimp was exactly was i was craving. jumbo butterflied shrimp with honestly the most amazing tartar sauce ive ever tasted in my life. i dont know what they put in it but its so delicious.

Then for dessert, they give you a complimentary phyllo dough custard thing. omg. if i wasnt so full from everything else i ate already it would have swallowed in it one bite.

oh and a 4 glass craft of wine is 10$ HELLO!

Wow everything was so good. i HIGHLY recommend this place. ive already told a bunch of people to go here

I love this place. Best greek food I've had in new york.

Definitely not a good place for large groups. I've waited an hour and half when I came witha group of 8+. Atleast they served free glasses of wine while we waited and passed out free bread.

Get the grilled octopus, the pita is great too and all the fish. I'll be back with just 1-3 other people max next time. Go on a weekday and before 6pm for less of a wait

This is the best seafood restaurant and worth the trip to Astoria and worth the sometimes very long wait. Everything from the Greek salad, calamari, and jumbo scallops were amazing. A small carafe of wine is only $10. My favorite dish is the scallops: they were buttery, enormous and a little crispy on top. At the end they give you free dessert- flan-like custard in crispy exterior. AMAZING!

Came here the other day for lunch and it was quite nice. Servers were pleasant and the interior is nice if you enjoy people watching. Got a bit tight when another table was taken next to ours but this is a great place for lunch with a business partner, a friend or whatnot. Not so sure about date night but if your date is OK with casual, still a nice place to eat. Got a bit loud when there was a table pushed together with 5 kids at it but not too loud to hear your dining companion.

Looks like it'd be really nice in the summer when the awnings off, unfortunately it was up and the room was rather hot with space heaters placed above each table. Toasty!

They brought a bread with some olive oil to the table when we sat down but the bread was just OK. We split two filet of soles, one fried and one grilled, because neither of us have been long in the fish(and meat) eating realm(two long-time vegetarians) so were wary of dropping $20+ on a dish of fish we weren't sure we'd like and thought it'd be nice to compare the two different cooking methods for the sole. Next time, I think I'll go for the snapper as I saw a few people eating it and it looked delicious.

The fried sole was basically fish and chips, good white fish fried with tartar sauce. It was OK, good for kids or someone who isn't a fan of fish(as they'll find it hard to eat on this menu) but if you're really looking for something yummy/different and aren't in the mood for fish 'n chips, I'd just steer clear. The grilled sole was delicious(as any grilled filet of sole should be!) and done perfectly.

Lemon potatoes were OK, I prefer mine a little crispy but maybe the Greek way is to have them mushier.

I'll be going back soon and trying something a little more exciting or different but overall, nice place.

I am really not a big fan of seafood, but this place is truly amazing. I always bring any seafood lover here and they are always impressed.

The wait is ridiculous sometimes as it may take up to 2.5 hours to get a table, but it is worth it when it's not freezing outside as there is no bar or waiting area.

I usually order the seabass. The lemon potatoes are out of this world. The greek salad is also very good and they are very generous with their portions, so you will be taking doggy bags home.

Our bill is usually no more than $70 and we order appetizers, beer, main course and sometimes desert. Worth every penny.

I'm definitely a fan of this place but, this time, it wasn't so good.
The portions (expecially the grilled octopus) wasn't too big and the service wasn't great as usual.
    Too bad...
