    LOVED this place.

Went with my two daughters at about 6:15 so we ordered a few things from the happy hour menu - the crunchy spicy tuna roll, artic char avocado roll and calamari. We also got two other rolls - the green dragon and the extinguisher and the oxtail appetizer. Everything was fresh and delicious. Not any pricier than other really good sushi places, nice decor, good service and their emphasis on sustainable sushi is nice. I'll be back again and again I think.

It is great to have another good sushi choice in Glen Park (K's Kitchen on Monterey is quite good as well and has a more full menu).

Finally, a decent sushi restaurant has moved into Glen Canyon!

The restaurant focuses on serving responsibly sourced and environmentally friendly seafood.  You will not find blue fin tuna here or other species that are endangered or not obtained from sustainable sources.   I would recommend previewing the menu first or coming with an open mind.  They don't have all the crazy sushi rolls that people have come to expect at sushi bars these days.  Also note that the menu is on the small side.

I met up with a friend here at 6:30 pm on a Saturday night.  It was great timing as a line soon formed after we arrived.  The space is not huge and I wouldn't recommend large groups coming here without a reservation.  We were able to take two seats at the communal dining table.

We asked our server for recommendations and ended up ordering a combination of standard rolls, specialty rolls, their house specials and a salad.  The fish was fresh and the suggestions from our server provided a well rounded combination of flavors and textures.   Be warned that when they say something is spicy, it can be pretty spicy.

The best part of the entire experience is that they have happy hour EVERY DAY from 5 to 7 pm.  Some of the standard rolls are 50% off, as are the beers and house sake.  So yes, we were able to order in time to take advantage of some of the happy hour menu options.  This probably explains why so many people were coming in right before 7 pm.

The crowd here is definitely from the neighborhood, with families, small groups and single diners.  They have mostly small tables and a small sushi bar.

My friend and I ate here right before catching a showing of the movie "Jiro Dreams of Sushi".  Thank goodness we did as it would have been torture to sit through that movie without having some really good sushi first.

Holy Good Food!!!!! We were looking for something good in the area to skip sitting in traffic and this place came up with good Yelp reviews so we decided to try it. When we got there it was crowded and we had to wait a little bit but they gave us happy hour pricing on a drink and we were happy to wait.

The waitress was GREAT! She made really good recommendations, which we followed. Here is what we had:

Pork Belly-AWESOME! But who doesn't like fried thick sliced pork!
Crispy Fried Aji-(the whole bones of the fish were fried and the meat was sashimi style)this was the star of the night. It was so good, I'm gonna call and see when that will be a special again. Secret sauce-mouthgasm!
Fresh Monkey Face eel from the bay-I didn't personally have this but apparently it was great , fresh , and rare.
The extinguisher - this was spicy, fresh, and tasty
The russian roulette - this was also very nice

Overall it was a great place, worthy of 5 stars. My only thing was the timing, and this seemed to be coming from the sushi chefs, not the waitress. The concept of bring one dish at a time was really nice but towards the end the spacing was way to long in between, other then that it was a great experience and for sure worth a return visit. I would say this is probably one of the best sushi places in the Bay Area.

This place is great!  Beautifully decorated inside with nice vibe.  The staff is uber friendly and attentive.  The sushi was absolutely delicious and tasted so fresh.  We also had the garlic edamame which I couldn't have enough.  The sliders were alright, but I really loved the rolls.  We also had the green tea cheesecake as well.  The extinguisher is a nicely decorated roll and comes out with a flame on the side of the dish which goes out just in time to feast on this spicy roll.  I liked that added touch.

The star off is just because it is a smaller place.  We sat in the tables that are really close to neighboring tables which wouldn't be bad unless you are sitting next to ppl who are listening to your conversation (and stare directly at you while you're talking) which happened to us and was really weird and uncomfortable.  It would have been nicer if our table wasn't so close to theirs.  Otherwise, we had a great experience here!

Very very well done! The rice on the sushi was magical! although its just rice it was perfectly sticky it was perfectly sweet, it wasnt hard or chewy. the california roll was so light and refreshing! I also got there sliders which were amazing! The rolls (bread) they use are out of this world. The crunch, the sauce, the flavor, the slider all together was pretty damn good!

The food and service, at Tataki Canyon, definitely succeed as a four star experience.  BUT the restaurant's focus on SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD* makes this establishment worthy of FIVE STARS (I know, it's an "OMG NO SHE DIDN'T" moment).

I know everyone has their own reasons for why they do and don't support certain businesses, and for me, this is a restaurant that I think everyone should select when perusing through "Sushi Bar" Yelp listings.  The prices here are comparable to traditional Sushi restaurants.  The menu, however, adequately executes flavor profiles that service their sustainable selection of fish and shrimp.  There are also a strong selection of vegan and vegetarian options.  The CALAMARI, ARCTIC CHAR ROLL, and ISLANDER ROLL were definite favorites (TIP: swap Avocado for Cucumber in the Islander roll for better texture).  Plus, if you're the type who loves to invest precious attention span to "ooo! and aaah!" moments then you should know that they serve their spicy Extinguisher roll on a plate with fire. *oooo! aaah!*

Still not convinced that it's worth of your holy presence?  Their HAPPY HOUR is from 5PM-7PM  EHHHVERRREEEEDDDUHHHAAAAYYY (read: everyday).. YES! I said 7PM!!!  That means it's not one of those cheap promotions that stay "Happy" during the hours of 5PM-5:05PM on weekdays only.  Ya know, one of THOSE PLACES.

*of course, the fish doesn't support the locavore debates but we're trying, right?!

We tried Tataki for the first time a few weeks ago and found it to be okay. The decor is very cozy, and we liked that a lot. However, the menu was very limited and the waiter wanted to seat us at a communal table with a bunch of tweens (not what we had in mind for a date night so we waited for a table).

There is no salmon or other sushi we really like was on the menu. There was pretty much only tuna and veggies. I get the whole sustainable thing, and I think that's great, but it made the place really blah for us. Maybe substituting this with other dishes, or noodles or amazing tofu would be a good idea.

In general, the service was okay. Our waitress seemed a little overwhelmed with a lot of tables and brought our dishes out very slowly - they sat at the sushi counter for a good five minutes, but she was very nice.

As time rolls on, I'm sure Tataki will expand their offerings. I really hope it does well because I love the vibe of downtown Glen Park. I'm sure we'll try it again down the road.

Set in quiet Glen Park, Tataki Canyon features another amazing sustainable sushi and vegetarian menu and pairs it with gorgeous ambiance and decor.  If you have a car, or access to BART, it's definitely worth the trek. I'll be back!

Glen Park has been starving for a sushi place for years. This place does not disappoint! The fish is super fresh and is sustainably sourced. We've come here twice just in its first week of opening. Prices are reasonable for fresh fish. There are $3 5p-7p happy hour drinks and handrolls--the sweet potato tempura roll and the Atlantic char roll were the tastiest for me.

As many sushi restaurants have a non-existent dessert menu or perhaps one limited to green tea ice cream, Tataki Canyon's dessert menu of green tea cheesecake (nice idea, but too skeptical to try), warm mochi (tasty!) and one other ranks as pretty impressive.

The place has no choice but to be kid-friendly with so many families in the neigborhood, but, absent little ones swirling around the space, the overall ambiance and clubby music were probably geared more for adults. While we got a table right away both evenings, like most Glen Park dining spots, the place is smallish and fills up quickly. 6 stars if they could lose the music!

I came here a few days back during the happy hours. First thing that caught my attention was the decor. Everything in the restaurant is nice, it feels like a fancy lounge of sorts.

I ordered the san-gria, the arctic char/avocado roll, and the fried calamari. $5, $4, $5 respectively. The kim-san-gria was good, the lychee made the drink so much better. The arctic char roll was.. I don't know, it wasn't satisfying. I'm not saying satisfying as in it did not make me full but satisfying as in it did not do the fish justice. They could've replaced it with almost any fish and it would be similar. The rolls just didn't showcase the fish I guess. The fried calamari was pretty good portion-size wise and it included the spicy dipping sauce.

Overall, not really that excited for the food that I got. I feel like I could get a way better dinner at many other Japanese restaurants in the city. For $15, I would rather go to Tekka and split a sashimi combo with a buddy and I would've enjoyed that a lot more. I like the idea of sustainability and all that jazz but in the end, I don't feel like the food is worth it.

Everything else is great though, the bathroom is amazing, the service is good (water is always filled, and ambiance is lovely. Doubt that I would ever return here again however.

TLDR: Food is ok, kinda pricey for what you get (IMO), great decor and service.

*Note: they have part of the menu for vegetarian in case you wanted to bring a friend that's one*

Ah Tataki Canyon, sustainable sushi for the conscious minded eater. My boyfriend and I tried this restaurant last night and were delighted when we found out we arrived in time for happy hour as well! We shared several rolls, the sashimi taster plate, calamari, and edamame over two asahis. The arctic char roll was the perfect combination of salty and buttery goodness in a roll.

A pleasant addition to the sleepy Glen Park neighborhood. We will definitely be back soon!

My girlfriend and I have been keeping vigil for weeks awaiting the opening of the newest branch -- two blocks from our house -- of San Francisco's sustainable sushi empire.  As soon as the curtain rose for opening night, we were on our way...

The small space is sleek and spare, with a large handful of tables to go with the sushi bar.  The space was adorned with hardwood and subtle streaks of fluorescent light against a soundtrack of moderately loud club/dance music.

The restaurant's commitment to sustainability means you can satisfy your cravings and your conscience at once.  We sampled a range of options to lay the foundation for many future trips (note:  the menu proclaims an alluring daily happy hour from 5-7pm with discounted food and drinks).

Our favorite was the miso sablefish, one of the chef's seasonal specials.  The fish was supple, sweet and faintly smoky, and came with lovely tempura asparagus and greens.  I almost asked for a refill.  The signature "tataki" of black sea bream was also a standout.  Thin slices of lightly seared fish with delightful, sweet sauce and jalapeno slices.

My girlfriend waxed poetic about the house-made sangria (thankfully I managed a swig before it was gone, so I could vouch for it, too).  The mixture of sake and riesling with lychees and strawberries was playful and delicious.  Happy hour will undoubtedly be happier here as these drinks are served at 1/3 off.

Our two forays into tuna were less extraordinary - the poke and spicy tuna roll were about average, the latter lacking any real bite.  Overall, we were very impressed by how smooth the restaurant's premiere was and are already planning many return visits.

This place is AWESOME! My friend and I checked the website to place a phone order for pick-up. Apparently, the site we were looking at was for another location, NOT the one in Glen Park. Not only did the sweet girl on the phone apologize for the confusion (they're working on a website for the GP location), she also checked with the chefs to see if it was OK for them to make our orders which typically aren't on the menu for Tataki Canyon and they did! Stellar sushi and customer service. Definitely turned me into a fan.

Also, if you dare, try to Russian Roulette roll! It's a smack in the face and a kick to the throat when you find The Spicy Roll.

My area really does need a Japanese/Sushi place, that's for sure.

This is my first time coming to Tataki so I wasn't sure what I would be in for.
...I'm usually with more authentic and traditional Japanese cuisine.

The place looks and feels nice and presentation is good.

The sashimi deluxe? which I had was presented nice with healthy portions of fish and vegetable decor;  the taste itself was satisfaction and nothing to complain about at all. Just, I don't see all the hype everyone has with the reviews because I've had plenty of sushi in the bay area and this did not jump out at me and make me say WOW.  However, it was not bad at all.

As for the selection of food and sushi/sashimi in general, it wasn't all that.  The waiter wasn't much help either as he didn't know a word of Japanese, nor does most of the staff, and so it made my companion a bit uneasy when they couldn't even understand what we wanted to order. Hmmm.

I'm not knocking on this place, or the actual people here but if I'm going to eat Japanese food then I'd like the person who serves me to act like they know Japanese food and have a "basic" understanding of how the dish is made and what it contains.  Instead, we had a clueless guy who just wanted to smile and keep up his charm while expecting us to roll with "it's fish" answer...

I am in no way so picky about eating Japanese in a place that has Japanese working there but it does make a difference in presentation, etiquette, and traditional taste.  I can not say that Tataki Canyon is at this level..yet?

I'm happy to see this pop up in Glen Park however and I'll stop by another time to get a second opinion.

Holy Trendy Sushi Cocoon Batman.  Flithy cheap Happy Hour prices, soft sweet potato tempura, and the extinguisher roll, which was both hearty and refreshing.  I think if their dishes were as spicy as advertised I'd be throwing up another star, but as it stands, this is a great gem in Glen Park to get your sushi swag on.

Most of the sushi was quite tasty and the sushi chefs had wonderful personalities.  LOVED the extinguisher.  However, I am very saddened by the restaurant not accepting my reservation for 5 on my birthday.  I just called (over a week in advance), and I was turned down because they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more.  I am extremely disappointed..  My family can EAT too.. It's really too bad and they most likely just lost a customer.

came here for my birthday, they let me make a reservation for 10 of us around 7pm, had called in a week prior, service was exceptional, and the swankiest bathroom I've ever seen in a small restaurant

lackluster taste, and small menu, but our server was ON it, apparently happy hour ends at 7, they let us place some happy hour orders on drinks in and brought them out without us even asking as soon as some of my friends showed up

smaller place, but  they put a couple of tables together for our party of 10, but too bad most of the girls in our party were wearing skirts/dresses, make it hard to get in and out with the "picnic bench" style seating at these 2 tables they had pushed together, had their been actual chairs i would've been a lot happier

cool vibe, modern sushi, and they were playing some solid Pandora, Daft Punk station i believe, but the fact that this place was expensive, small menu, and the sushi was bland didn't impress me... and picnic bench seating?!?!

oh and apparently any AT&T iPhone, you're in a black hole at this place, they got wifi, but its protected

We recently moved to Glen Park, and we were thrilled to discover Tataki Canyon - a sustainable sushi restaurant a block away from our new apartment.  We've been there about 5 or 6 times in the past month, and their arctic char roll is my favorite. Everything is very fresh and I appreciate the mini guides they give you re: which fish are sustainable.  The service is always pleasant, and the design of the restaurant's interior is aesthetically pleasing.  Love the embedded lights on the wall.  We will be eating here for years to come.

Have always liked the original Tataki, but this one missed the mark all the way! With empty, but dirty seats throughout, it took way too long and each person asking the other to handle it. After sitting, it took at least that long to get a server. So with no line and seats available, it has been 20 minutes for a cup of tea. Upon placing the order we watched as the people adjacent received 5-6 items while we received nothing. Eventually sake arrived but no refill on the tea. Twice the server said the remainder of the order would be out shortly, but still nothing and no tea refill. Finally the remainder arrived after a 20 minute break from the previous delivery. With all that said, the food was good. However at $60 per person, this was very disappointing. Take out may be the right choice here.

Came here when it first opened but always forget to write a review. The sushi here was fresh and tasted really good. It's in a small area so the place is tiny. The petite restaurant had a nice decor, really delicious sushi with reasonable price. Very friendly service. Only thing I would say is that the tables were really small. If you wanted to order 3-4 rolls of sushi, you'll run out of place to actually eat. I believe I went here during happy hours. Some great deals. If I am ever in the mood for sushi and I am in the neighborhood, I would definitely go here again.

Went here with my boyfriend on a Friday night. We both love sushi, and I wanted to treat him to a high quality sushi dinner--so I decided on this place because of the high yelp reviews.

It has a great location, and the inside is cozy, intimate, and nicely decorated. The waiters were very friendly and attentive.

It is a bit pricey, but it is worth it. This place has the freshest/cleanest tasting fish out of all the sushi places I have been to! We started with a Green Dragon Roll. This was very delicious, and had some unique flavors. We then got the nigiri 5 piece sampler. These were great! So good, each fish had its own distinctive flavor!

We ended with the Extinguisher. This roll was probably my favorite. I love spicy foods...and this roll was spicy! But it blended SO well with all the other flavors that were in the roll!

Loved this place! Great for sushi lovers!!

Saw the OPEN sign in the window on the way home.  Given the reputation of the other 2 successful Tataki locations, we had to park immediately to try this place.  Wow.  From the moment you are greeted with an exuberant "irashaimase," you know that this restaurant is finally going to really succeed where other previous restaurants have not.  Every dish was careful made with skill and care.  The plating of the food was beautiful.  Hey, this is Glen Park.  We are not used to this kind of food presentation.  Sashimi deluxe platter is overflowing with some of the freshest fish and seafood I've had in the city.  The savory hot dishes:  eggplant, oxtail, miso fish were delicious!  So good, we went back a second time since their opening on the 13th.  We really needed this in Glen Park.  It's about time.

Absolutely thrilled that Tataki - known for its sustainable and delicious sushi  - has opened its third SF location right near my house in Glen Park.  I met Casin (one of the owners) today on opening night & was impressed by his warm demeanor and the sophisticated ambiance of the restaurant. Tataki has a happy hour special menu from 5-7 and is just two blocks from the GP Bart station. This is a great addition to the village: the location is great for my family and it's very child-friendly.  The staff is friendly and always courteous.  Happy hour is a pretty good deal: 1/2 priced handrolls and drink specials which is a good way to unwind.  To top it off, the food is awesome!  I am normally a very picky person about sushi (I usually don't mess around too much with the Americanized rolls and mostly stick to simple temaki and nigiri) and I have to say that they pick excellent fish which are sustainable, to boot.

I judge a sushi restaurant on the quality of it's uni and it's top notch at Tataki! I have eaten here five times already and have not encountered any duds on the menu. There are also tons of vegan and vegetarian options so everyone can have a great time!

We are so happy to have Tataki nearby. This being the fifth eating establishment opening in this space in a relatively short period of time I can only hope Tataki stays because it is delicious. The happy hour from 5-7 has some good options although this is also prime time for families with children so if you want a more adult crowd I would suggest coming later perhaps. Everything we had was fresh and tasty.  We definitely recommend the crepes for dessert.

Great new addition to the Glen Park neighborhood.  Very yummy sushi, and lots of fun new stuff to try because they only choose sustainable fish.  Happy hour for both food and drink is 5-7 with some solid bargains.

This location seems to have been plagued with non-veg-friendly tenants for some years, so I was pleased to see a place with a lot of great veg options go in (http://webuiltthiscity...). We tried it for dinner for the first time last night. There was no wait at 7pm on a Tuesday night. The service was friendly and attentive, the selection was great, and the rolls were inventive, flavorful, and delicious, if a bit pricey. I want to grab some to-go menus to throw in the face of every sushi restaurant owner whose veg "options" are limited to avocado or cucumber maki! We tried the Veggie Philadelphia, Reggae, Hot Potato and Ratatouille rolls (http://webuiltthiscity...). The latter was my favorite, but the Hot Potato's spicy tofuna was something I've never even heard of before -- definitely worth sampling! I hope Tataki sticks around for awhile. Now all Glen Park Village is missing is a drug store and a gourmet ice cream shop...

Kind of surprised to see some disparaging reviews, makes me wonder if we patronized the same establishment. Went here on a whim about an hour before closing time. Being a big fan of the original Tataki I wanted to see how one of it's sister restaurants compared, and between myself and two friends, not a bad bite of food was to be found. Quite the opposite. Our server Danelle was incredibly knowledgeable and guided us through the menu graciously, helping us make excellent choices along the way. Some highlights: The marinated sablefish with the sweet-soy glaze melted in my mouth, as did the gorgeous, fresh, and generous portion of sashimi. The pork belly was another standout, even for my quasi-pescatarian companion. We did attempt the Russian Roulette roll (crawfish, scallops, asparagus, etc) and I was the lucky (or unlucky, if you can't take a little heat) recipient of the one spicy roll that nearly burned a hole through my tongue (in a good way). All in all, it was an exceptional experience, thanks both to the spectacular Ms Danelle who provided unparalleled service and to the food of Tataki, which never fails to deliver. Will definitely be back to Tataki Canyon, and I live on the other side of the city in Russian Hill, so do with that info what you will. Looking forward to a return visit.

I immediately liked the decor and was happy that a sushi restaurant is now in Glen Park.  We had a couple of appetizers that were very good.  The ahi poke was very fresh and had a good flavor.  The ox tail was very tender and tasty, but $8 for one piece of ox tail seemed pricey.  The ikura was probably the freshest I've had----not fishy, not overly salty.  The other sushi we had were good, but not great.  We probably won't go back.  We'll continue to drive to the Sunset or other neighborhoods where we like the tastes, wider selection and more reasonable prices.
