The food at this restaurant is consistently good and the service is above average. The place is cleaner than most restaurant and the waits for tables are minimal. The food comes out fresh and is always satisfying. I am guessing they are trying to be healthy because their food is a little bit blander than traditional shanghainese cusine, which isn;t necessarily a bad thing.

I order take out from here maybe once a month or so, and almost always order the following:
- Ginger Beef
- Braised Spicy Layer Pork w/ Cabbage
- Garlicky Pea Shoots
- Shanghai Style Thick Noodle OR Rice Cake w/ Meat & Veg
The above have always been consistent for me, and when I occasionally dine in I'll order some Shanghai dumplings as they're pretty good here.
I agree with some of the other reviewers that the food is not as good as it was when it first opened. I've heard rumors that they've had a lot of turnaround in the kitchen, so it's possible that may be at the root of the problem.
If you live in the area, and need a dependable Chinese take-out joint, then I would recommend - not highly, but still recommend - adding Tasty Village to your menu folder. -

The good? Their Shanghai pork dumplings, the pan fried dumplings, ample spaces always available at lunch time and the ability to pay with credit card. (need to be a minimum purchase of $25)
The bad? This place is hit or miss especially when it comes to their noodle dishes. Luckily, it's mostly hits for me. Other times, it's too soggy, too oily or too salty.
Stick to the dumplings and you'll be guranteed some good eats. -

I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty sure that I have a soft spot for this restaurant. I believe it's trying to do what other dim sum restaurants should be doing; fast service, good portions, and above all else, great prices.
I have nothing ground breaking to say about this place but I will give my opinion on where it might go. I think it's a few bad experiences away from slowly going out of business or a few good experiences away from being a great little gem that you want to bring your friends to.
A shanghai style dim sum restaurant should have a few staples that are sure bets, and this they do have: Juicy pork buns are REALLY juicy (bring a bib if you're a newbie), the onion pancakes are delicious and fluffy and the potstickers are bang on.
What they need is that consistency in the rest of their menu, I admit there are some hit misses in my 4-5 visits so I hope they get on a good path and stick to it. They are really nice.
EDIT: awww they closed down.... -

The Good: Seafood hot and sour soup
The Average: XLB (The skin was too thick)
The Bad: Parking - what's with the assigned parking spaces????
Food was average overall and service was OK. The parking situation was frustrating. -

Used to be a very good place for food but has gone down hill since the beginning of the year. Sorry to say but my review will have to change from good to I've experienced better.
During our last few meals, it was either their fish wasn't fresh or pork wasn't fully cooked. The presentation used to be nice but now a little short of looking like they were scooped food from food court. I'm disappointed and stopped referring others to this place for dinner.
I had been a regular ever since before they relocated. I told the owner honestly that their food just aren't good anymore. I hope that will improve soon. Would've been only 1 star if it wasn't for lunch dimsum that is still not bad. And service is only so-so. -

Although it's located in a not-so-convenient corner of Willingdon and Moscrop, the food makes it all worth while! Don't hold your breath when it comes to service though because I don't think they know what it means. Not even the slightest smile or "you're welcome" sometimes, yet I could care less. The food makes up for the shortfalls - that is all!

Here I thought I'd snag the FTR... next time I'll have to write faster!!
Four stars for:
- Fast take-out (15 min wait during lunch)
- Yummy Hot and sour soup, the kind that makes you sweat from just taking a spoonful
Even though it's near Moscrop Secondary, it wasn't full of high schoolers at lunch. I was probably the youngest one there and the only white person.
To echo other concerns... yeah parking is kind of a nightmare at lunch (or anytime I've seen this lot going past..)Listed in: EAts near work

Went here on the recommendation of a friend. Maybe it was because it was a Thursday night. Maybe the real cook had the night off. But it was THE WORST MEAL I have had in a long long time. You have been warned.

Tasty Village restaurant is one of the very few Shanghai Chinese restaurants in Burnaby. It is situated next to Moscrop Secondary school in a mini strip mall. Parking was all almost all full and when I entered the restaurant, there was one empty table for our group. We ordered potsticker dumplings, dumplings in soup, xiao long bao, Shanghai noodles, vegetables/seafood spring rolls, and rice balls with black sesame seeds as a desert. The potstickers were very well presented and nicely toasted, and not overdone. The dumplings in soup were not much different from the potsticker dumplings, but they're in a soup. The xiao long bao was disappointing for a Shanghai restaurant. The meat was a bit too firm and the soup inside the xiao long bao wasn't as tasty and savoury compared to other Shanghai restaurants. Shanghai noodles were average, but on the greasy side. Spring rolls were okay, and they weren't overfried and there was a good amount on vegetables and seafood inside. Rice balls with black sesame seeds desert was okay, and it wasn't different from ones you buy at many stores. After eating at this Shangahi restaurant, I wasn't blown away by the food, but the ambience was nice, but finding parking on the weekend at this restaurant can be challenging.
This is one of the better places for Shanghai dim sum in Burnaby and one of the better dim sum restaurants in Burnaby. You can even see a lady making dumplings inside the restaurant. Considering the restaurant is so close to Vancouver, it has to be pretty decent.
