Cute corner cafe. Free wifi, friendly service.
Get the soup+ half-sandwich/wrap deal for $6.99... Not bad for Upper West Side!
But then a mango smoothie + key-lime mini-pie brought bill to $17.99... = Ah well, still relatively inexpensive. Relatively. (UW Side)
Minestrone soup was good, chicken wrap was all right. Mango/banana/pineapple smoothie = delicious. -

For some reason, the food looks fake here. From the pastries to the salad to the hot and cold food, everything looks plastic (like the toy food you played with when you were 4 yrs old.)
Trust me, I'm not complaining about the "look" of the food because it tastes damned good. Everything looks and tastes super fresh and the staff are overly polite (that scares me sometimes.)
Anyway, its a bit pricey but you pay for what you get and it is on the UWS, so what else did you expect, Bronx prices? I didn't think so either. -

Tasty refunded my order due to my very poor experience. They do know how to run at least part of their business well.

A good place to sit down and chat a while with friends or study (has wifi, brightly lit). The muffins were slightly dry, but dunking them in coffee made them ok. I think it was slightly above 4 dollars (with tax) for both.

I came in here to buy a bottle of iced tea. The place is clean and looks like it has some tasty treats awaiting my taste buds if I ever am in the neighborhood in the future.
The bottle of iced tea was absurdly priced at $3.05. I only had 3 dollars and a 20 and the kind cashier didn't make me break my $20. -

Dropped in here to get a bite and use their free wifi. Food was good, iced chai tea delicious, and service quick and friendly.
They keep in clean even with all the foot traffic coming in and out. -

In my constant search of cafe's where I can do work late at night or at least appear to be doing work, my friend and I came across this small cafe by the 72nd street station on the 1 train. The space was bright and the food smelled delicious.
My friend and I went inside and as we walked in the smell of fresh pasta was in the air. It smelled delicioius but unfortuantely right before we came to this spot I had eaten at 5 Guys Burger which I kept hearing was amazing, but it really wasn't all that... but that is another story.
Anyhow, I was full and I so regreted having the burger. At that moment I wished I had a time machine so I could have an empty stomach to eat this delicious smelling pasta that not only was fresh but cheap! The base price was $5 with any sauce. If you wanted toppings each came at an additional cost. I still think its a great deal and was enticed to come back again.
After ordering a small red velvet cake to share with my friend, which by the way was probably the best dessert I've had at a cafe of this sort, we settled at a corner to begin our work. We were there sipping on our cappuccino's for about 3 hours. Finally it was 11 and the employees began to clean up. The staff was super friendly and told us to take our time but we felt bad so we packed our bags and prepared to leave and said our good-byes. We will definetly be going back there to do some more work soon! -

I live above this cafe - that makes fresh pastas and mix-in salads, fresh juice and all other goodies. Their soy cappacino is also actually decent non-Star Bucks type milk shakes. Friendly staff! Great variety and reasonable prices.
Has WIFI and loyalty cards - so is a great place to hang out whilst escaping the shoe box apartment :) Great location too outside 72nd Street Subway on Amsterdam.
Proud to call it my local :) -

So! This is my favorite place to get a salad (with unlimited mix-ins!) in my neighborhood. Veggies are always fresh, really good meat options that are tasty and all the same price. Just really good value for a "small" salad (as compared to others in the neighborhood). Plus it comes with bread. Plus I have a place in my heart for everywhere that has the "buy 10 get one free" cards. And free wifi. And no minimum for your card.
This is a solid place to hunker down and get work down without feeling like you're being glared at. Better than the Starbucks across the street (the one with all the people standing around with their lattes like awkward vultures waiting for a seat).
I do think the wraps are over-priced though. -

Pretty ordinary cafe with a great variety of foods. They sponsor a make your own pasta special for $8.99, add-ons as many as you want. I opted for the chicken noodle soup and the corn muffin, which were pretty standard.

$8.20 seems like a not so hot price for a small (but tasty) amount of salad (and I ordered the lg portion too). I could be wrong though, salad bar aficionados please feel free to set me straight.
Anyway, it was tasty nonetheless and satisfied my craving for something fresh, earthy, and healthy. Also, I'm not really a lemonade person (I hate how it makes my saliva coagulate a bit, blech), but I decided to take a risk on their strawberry lemonade, and it also was quite tasty (the strawberry seeds were the best part).
Though I didn't taste them, they have a decently varied array of your run of the mill pastries & desserts, and a few more interesting ones (like a key lime bar).
My experience lived up to it's name, for sure. Prices just weren't as tasty as I'd want, though what to expect, it is the UWS. -

You'd think there would be a rock-bottom for fucking up delivery.
You know ... an absolute zero. Like there's only so much you can fuck up, right? Like, you can only be late and give the wrong order and over charge, right?
So. Yeah, they were late. OK, not a big deal. It was raining.
And the delivery guy didn't have a pen. Which is like a hitman not bringing a gun. But OK. It happens.
And we got Diet Coke instead of Coke zero. Hmm.
And the Ceasar salad was virtually all tomatoes and croutons. Strike 4.
And they put the pasta in sideways so when you picked it up it dumps cream sauce all over your couch.
Well, that's certainly a new and creative way to fuck up delivery. You suck so bad you stain my couch. -

I'm off to the movies this morning, and I need to get some food to sneak into the theatre. So I come upon this place, which I guess is new because I'd never seen it. When you walk in, there are a few tables, I'm guessing about 10-15. The long glass counter is on your right, and there you can pick and choose what you want. They have the standard bagels, croissants, muffins, and cookies.
But the chocolate chip muffin I got, man! Talk about fresh and soft. It was just so delicious, and it was sort of like a Chips Ahoy muffin, there's always a chip in every bite. Yes, the Tasty Cafe is indeed tasty. -

I've lived in the neighborhood for a while now and Tasty has become my go to place for breakfast, coffee or a quick bite.
Before Tasty opened an old deli occupied the space, and it was downright horrible. The food wasn't fresh and the people were rude. Needless to say, I was glad to see it close.
Then Tasty came along. The interior is bright, cheerful and clean. The staff are all so friendly, and since I come in often, they usually know what I want before I even ask for it. In terms of coffee, they have it down - the lattes are always made with expert care. Bagels and bialis always taste fresh. They have a great selection of prepared foods, but are always happy to make you whatever you want.
The only criticism I can offer is that they should extend breakfast on the weekends. -

Why I like this place
1. It says its healthy.
2. They make pasta the way I like it. With everything and the kitchen sink. And now they only charge you 8 bucks.
3. They are all ridiculously friendly.
4. The place looks clean and welcoming.
5. Plus. I was in NYC for 13 days and ended up going out on a date with the guy who served up the pasta.
6. All in all...inexpensive and fabulous. They have salads and pastries and much much more.
Move to Austin!!!( or maybe I should just move there.) -

Smoothies and pasta and baked goods, Ohhhh my. Its good. All of it. Everytime I go in, I get something else and everything has been more than passable and very affordable. They have great hours too - seemingly open when nothing else in this hood is.
Everyone who I've interacted with there has been super friendly too.
Plenty of little tables, (I think with WIFI?) for couples/small groups grabbing a bite. Plenty of choices also if you are just looking to grab a drink, put together your own salad or grab a sandwich.
Definitely a good, cheap find. -

This place is in my building, so I stop here when I'm too lazy to step off the curb.
The pasta and salads are actually a pretty good deal, though they seem to run out of ingredients fairly early in the evening.
I'll take other peoples' word for it that they've encountered friendly people here, but I always seem to get the stony-faced cashier who refuses to return my smile.
Edit 10/09: After stopping in a zillion more times, I'll have to say that the staff (which I believe has changed) is now very friendly. 3 stars is still about right, though.
Don't forget to ask for your garlic bread with the pasta! It's supposed to be part of the meal, but they don't give it to you automatically. -
Review from Taryn C.
In a pinch, I'll order from here, hubby likes it because there's a $5 minimum so he's not forced to order a bunch of stuff he doesn't want/need. The pasta bar is very good, apparently they have unlimited vegetable toppings (I can't do all that in one shot though, that's just me). They're generally very quick for delivery, though I've had some issues in the past with them taking forever to get there (and I live VERY close by). They have a good bakery/dessert selection but to be honest, I'd rather not. It's like $5 for a cupcake that I can get for $3.25 at Crumbs. Just personal preference. I also notice they have WiFi which is good to know so if I'm not in the mood to deal with Sbux, I can just go there.

The pasta dishes here are really good. Super friendly folks, somewhat decent prices, and none of their baked goods has disappointed me yet... though where are the palmiers when you are craving them.. sold out, it appears...
*edit
nevermind they did have palmiers and yes i used seamlessweb.. -
Review from David L.
I really do like this place, quite a bit. Their delivery is incredibly quick -- I live nearby, across the avenue and two blocks away -- it would actually takes me much longer to put on my shoes, go downstairs, dodge traffic through two tragic intersections, and then return home... And although the food isn't cheap, it's also not expensive... It's common fare, such as pastas and salads and sandwiches and soups and pastries, but that's not a bad thing necessarily since that's what most people want, mostly... None of the flavors are very bright or innovative, but they do what they do pretty well... I know it's owned and operated by the same people in charge of Gigi Cafe, nearby, but unlike that over-crowded customer-hating mad-house, which I can't stand, these people are very friendly, and I'm consistently content.

I've had several bad experiences with the food making me violently sick. Also, the cashiers consistently over-charge for items at check-out and never provide the itemized copy. They just hand you the credit card slip with the total. Avoid the place.
I decided to try this place again last week and got over charged again for the salad. When I questioned the cashier, she became defensive and said that a small spinach salad was $2.95 plus the cost of each item. I went back and checked the menu and verified that I was overcharged. Avoid this place. -

Perfect place to come and study if you live in the area. I was there for about 3 hours on a Sunday evening and if never got too loud. They have fast, free wifi that doesn't have a time limit like other coffee spots. The food is a little pricey so eat before you come so you're only tempted to snack on the pastries.

I've ordered in and eaten at Tasty many, many times. Almost every time I order in, there's something wrong with my order, but when I'm there to order, everything is great. Just a heads up.

This place is awesome. I had a meeting across the street and we happened to park right next to this cafe, so my brother and I decided to try it. They have pasta, sandwiches, and breakfast items. I went ahead and got the pesto penne with chicken. It was REALLY good. It had a nice flavor, but was a bit on the oily side. It came with a garlic bread, too, that was super tasty. The price was good, but typical for a plate like that. If I'm every hungry and happen to pass by here, I will definitely go again.

Greatest mixed berry smoothie of my life. I've tried to find one of equal deliciousness in Ohio and have failed quite miserably.

Stopped by because I was in the area and desperate for food. The guy behind the counter convinced me to try one of their pasta dishes. For around $8, I got fusilli with sauteed garlic, sundried tomatoes, broccoli, and pieces of mozarella, tossed in a tomato sauce with a touch of hot peppers. It was delicious. Not haute cuisine, but delicious. I also managed to get two meals out of the generous serving, which makes it very affordable.

I usually go there for lunch and love their sandwiches. The ice coffee is pretty good too. Price wise I don't see it's much different from other places ( It's hard to find a good sandwich under $7)

The reason I give this place 5 whopping stars:
1) the people who work there are smiley and friendly
2) all the food seems really fresh
3) the pasta and salad bars are super cheap
4) choose your own pasta, toppings and sauce bar (no meat usually runs me about $8-10)
5) choose your own salad with at least 30 different toppings, all fresh and yummy salad dressings-- they make the salad for you, its not self-serve. (yummy salad with about 5 toppings and no meat runs me about $8-10).
Awesome place!! I highly recommend if you're looking for something quick, cheap, tasty and FRESH!
