Review from Carlo A.
Montclair, NJ
My wife and I never took a second look at this place but thanks to Groupon, we gave it a shot. We came in on a Tuesday evening and were quickly seated. There was no host rather a waitress sat us and also served us our food.
We started off our meal with the Sangria. If our pallets serve us correctly, it was a mixture of grapefruit and pineapple juice with slices of those fruits plus cantaloupe. You need to bring your own wine because it's a BYOB restaurant. It was delicious and completely refreshing. A MUST order if you go!
We ended up choosing four tapas orders. The first was "Tablas de Quesos." This was a cheese plate including Manchego cheese (sheep milk), Murcia (goat milk) and Tetilla (cow milk). The Manchego and Murcia were somewhat similar when it came flavor but they weren't too salty. If you aren't open to those types of flavors, it's better off you don't eat them. The Tetilla cheese is much more user-friendly. It was a very soft and creamy cheese. The flavor wasn't as potent as the other two and it was almost like it was a dessert cheese. It was also served with a guava paste. I enjoyed all three cheeses.
Next was the "Tablas de Embutidos," a meat platter. In this was, Cantimpalo (cured sausage), Jamon Serrano (serrano ham) and Chorizo Seco Picante (dry-cured chorizo). The Cantimpalo tastes very similar to salami, the serrano ham tastes just like ham with a more potent meat flavor and the chorizo had a very smokey flavor. I also enjoyed this tapas item.
The last two tapas orders were "Gambas Al Ajillo" (garlic shrimp) and "Falda a la Plancha" (skirt steak). The shrimp were cooked very well but dries out if you don't eat it right away. Nothing special about this dish. The skirt steak wasn't full of flavor but it was cooked PERFECTLY. Sometimes that's all you need for a solid steak.
We then shared the Seafood Paella. I have to say, I was very disappointed with this dish. It has your usual saffron rice, clams, mussels, baby scallops, shrimp and calamari. The rice was a bit too mushy and didn't have the crispy/burnt bottom that makes paella great. The calamari was cooked nicely but the rest of the seafood was overcooked. The flavors were decent, but the execution of the dish wasn't there.
Overall it was a pleasant dining experience. We would go back to try more of their tapas menu because we enjoyed them and to have more of the sangria. -

Also went with a Groupon. Service was great - we had the nicest waiter! The food was decent, maybe a little on the pricey side. But it was still a nice place to go - we sat outside on a gorgeous day! And I will say this - the flan is AMAZING! :). We'll go back.

I had dinner on a Sunday night. The decor and lightning is very poor. I had the Chorizos which were dried up, the bacon and dates which were burnt beyond recognition, the spicy potatoes which were at best ok and the flan combination that was dry and ordinary. All this for $52 without any drinks or wine. The entertainment was a guy on a guitar singing Dylan and Gordon Lightfoot songs-not exactly a Spanish ambiance.
I doubt very much I will be going back to this establishment. -

This was my second visit and I have to say, the service was so-so. The first visit was average because the food was interesting and decent. The draw was the flamenco music and dancers. The second time however, wasn't too good. first of all, my dates wrapped with bacon was burnt and all I tasted was charcoal. I gave it back but it took them forever. The 21 dollar skirt steak (4 inches) was a joke. I looked at that thing and laughed. Again, this too took forever. The only redeeming thing was the Flamenco show - which I have a feeling was the reason for the real expensive bill. It was good but the price doesnt justify what was offered. The flan was good though. If you don't believe me, by all means, go and see for yourself.

The food here was pretty good - we enjoyed the meats, chesses, croquettes, and endive with white anchovies. But the service has a long way to go. Here were a few highlights:
A few minutes after we arrived, the waitress approached our table and stared at us silently. This was her way of soliciting our order.
The server who brought our cheese platter could not tell us what was in the small bowl accompanying the cheese.
After requesting dessert menus, we waited at least twenty minutes without our order being taken. My wife had to get up and find the waitress and ask her to come take our order.
My dessert arrived shortly thereafter, without utensils. My wife started picking at it and ate about a quarter of it with her hands (her dessert had not arrived). Then, because the service delays were getting so comical, I resorted to eating the dessert with the giant stirring spoon in the sangria pitcher. No utensils were ever brought out.
My wife's and her sister's desserts were never brought out. Eventually, my wife once again had to get up, find the waitress, and ask for our check.
We waited ten minutes for the check. When the waitress finally came, she did not bring our check, but rather asked if we were sure we did not want the other two desserts. It had been 30 or 40 minutes since ordering dessert. We again said we would just like the check.
This is a new place, and I can only imagine the wait staff has no experience. Hopefully this will improve. Notably absent was the presence of any individual checking on whether the diners' needs were being met and whether the wait staff was doing its job. If nobody takes on the responsibility of checking up on the diners and the staff, though, these issues will likely persist. -

We came just 30 min before closing and they still sat us. We had the chorizo, spare ribs, tapastry salad. Spare ribs were great as well as the chorizo. Best tapas place I had was in San Francisco, so giving this 4 but was a close 5 stars for me.

Flamenco guitar player and dancer were AMAZING - Food was just ok and very expensive (maybe to pay for the performers?). I just found the food to be flavorless - uninspired - I wish it was though because the entertainment rocked! I don't think we would go back - too many other delicious options in Montclair

Came here on a Friday night and sat outside to people watch. Food was great (Brought our own beer - it's a BYO). I had the string beans, potacas bravas (delicious) and corn bread with tomato (i'm vegetarian), my husband had the chorizo and potato and pork dish. Prices were very reasonable with good sized portions. Staff was nice. We also got to see Flamenco musicians and dancers. Will return!

My wife and I went there for our anniversary. The atmosphere was lively and fun. The food was really delicious. The flamenco dancers and the guitarist were off the hook! We really had a lot of fun, and loved the environment. We will definitely be going back. Also, if you bring some wine, they will make a yummy sangria for you!

I had a surprise birthday party for a friend at Tapastry. Cheryl, the owner, helped me arrange a delicious tapas menu in advance--I ordered the olives, flank steaks, pollo picante, shrimp, spicy potatoes, and caesar salad. Everyone was complimenting the food and the service. We also brought our own red and white wine and mixed it with Tapastry's sangria--it went perfectly with our tapas! It was Friday night, so we were treated to a live flamenco show...the chilled out atmosphere is perfect for a party!
