This is a veritable Disneyland for people who love useless crap like I do.

I made the mistake of walking in here one day, thinking that it was just another multi-purpose Dollarama-esque store, but boy was I wrong. This place literally has everything one would want for their kitchen or restaurant, and a whole lot of what you don't need, but will probably buy anyway.

I mean, do you really need a package of 100 appetizer picks hand cut into your choice of little umbrellas, seahorses or violins for $2.99?

Of course you don't, but you know what? That shit is hella cute, so into your basket they go.

Truth is, I can spend hours in here filing through everything they have. Given the chance, I would absolutely love to spend a night in here and probably could by setting up a bed in the gargantuan 100 serving wok in the corner of the store (which by the by is available at the low, low price of $179 in case anyone is interested)

    Best. Place. Ever.

Tap Phong is the Chinese version of Kitchen Stuff Plus. Wide range of product quality here ranging from Paderno to Dollarama.

    Fun things you will find:

*Plastic fruit and plastic loaves of bread (don't be fooled!)
    *Bamboo steamers in 8,000 sizes
*GIANT woks big enough to stir-fry an entire cow
    *Ceramic Buddhas
    *Serving platters shaped like frogs

Very reasonable prices for the most part. It's kind of cluttered and hard to navigate, but this is highly surprisingly for a shop on Spadina Street.

You can stock your own kitchen or open your own dumpling house...the choice is yours.

Love this place, this bring all of the stereotypes about shopping in a Asian warehouse to mind an I absolutely love that!

Got an 8' chef knife(global) for my girlfriend and she absolutely loved it almost got her the 6 but luckily the lady at the counter knew that bigger was better.

The prices are great as the knife came to be cheaper than many other places I had checked out online and the store itself is just a plethora of everyday cooking/eating supplies that I wish I could take home with.

If you know anyone clumsy people, this is definitely not the place to take them on the other hand if you are looking to replace any tools of your kitchen short of a complete Reno I highly suggest checking this place out!

Even with the pay parking, annoying dt traffic, I have become a fan of Tap Phong. I had enquired via email regarding fushia Chinese teacups and received a response very promptly.

The place was huge...I think my mom or any house owner would love to browse around. The prices were excellent as well. They really had everything you'd need in the kitchen. Tap Phong also had a section for 'dead ppl'. The things you burn for the dead, etc. (it's a Chinese thing). I even found some mini Chinese teacups and thought omggggg how cute!!! But they are in the 'death' section... I guess it's meant for the ancesters and not drinking :)

I was able to find a few Chinese teasets. They were SOOOO FRUGAL :D The best set was the gold & white dragon & phoenix ($26.99).  The traditional fushia longevity set was $19.99 (good price but not that vibrant in colour).

I ended up purchasing eight $ 1 fushia teacups for my Chinese tea ceremony. Hoping my bms will break these instead of my real set if they happen to be rushing about. Can't get over how they are only $ 1. The cheapest I found uptown was $ 1.99.

I will definitely come back here again !

If you ever see anything in a Asian/Chinese Restaurant  that you think OMG so cute, I wish I have that at home! You will probably find it at Tap Phong Trading Company.

It will take hours for me to browse through everything. And I know there will be something neat I would lke to buy everytime when I am here. (talking to myself, "I have anything I need! I don't need anything!")

I think the quality and selections here is much better than dollar store and it is more fun shopping here because the experience is more unique.

Will my cooking skill improve if I drop by here more often looking and touch every kitchenwares in the Tap Phong?

I just moved to Toronto and I'd been scrambling for bits and pieces for the kitchen, racing against the clock, and trying to procure enough tableware for a tapas shindig I was throwing for 13 people.

Luckily, I came across Tap Phong in Chinatown which carries EVERYTHING I needed--at prices that won't send me to the welfare line. Cheap wine glasses? Check. Little tapas plates? Check. Nifty bamboo picks, deep-frying thermometer, parchment paper...check, check, and check.

The store shelves are crammed with kitchen essentials and random WTF gadgets but if you're patient enough to browse around, you'll be rewarded with some good bargains.

IF I ever open a family run ASIAN restaurant, this is where I will stock up on kitchen equipment and supplies.  I went in here with a specific MISSION and was not disappointed.  It did take a couple LAPS to find exactly what I wanted instead of going with a secondary option when I thought it wasn't available.

I had lots of TIME which meant 'Kid in a Candy Store' shopping happiness.  I started to imagine how I would use each and every item in the shop.  At some time I even did more laps to DISCOVER things I normally don't find from places such as Kitchen Stuff Plus or Home Outfitters.

It's in a great area of town too nearby both China Town and Kensington Market where you can get inspirations before or after.  Make sure you look over and CHECK everything you buy as not all items stocked are in PERFECT condition or quality and secondly, ALL SALE ARE FINAL & NO REFUND as stated on the receipt.

It's like a flea market threw up all the dishware you'd find in a Chinese restaurant.

Everywhere you look, floor to ceiling, there's stuff.  Lots of...stuff!  Glassware, pots, gadgets galore... plastic bowls that I recognize from every ghetto asian noodle house I've ever been to (you know those bowls with that red pattern with the mini swirls).

This place has everything you need for a kitchen at reasonable prices.

The selection of unboxed dishware is extensive.  Plain drinking glasses, latte glasses, shot glasses, tea cups, coffee cups, etc. you get the idea.  If you break something, you can always come back and buy a replacement cup!  A bonus for clumsy people like me!

Note#1: Don't expect a lot of help if you have questions.  The staff speak limited English.  You might not get too far with words like "ramekin" or even "spatula".  But they will do their best to help you.

Note#2: Don't get in the way of old Chinese people shopping.
Grunting is acceptable instead of "Excuse me".
Pushing and shoving is just another way of saying "Sorry, I need to pass."

Also,  if you are one of those shoppers who has a kid that you push around in a giant stroller, do everyone a favor...find a babysitter.
This isn't the place to take them. There are breakable bits everywhere and narrow lanes.  Don't take this the wrong way but...your baby isn't cute, you aren't cute, don't get in the way of people who need to get errands done.

Anyways, it's fun to wander down each aisle and find kitchen treasures.  Next time you need kitchen-anything, come here! :)

Some might not remember a time when there were no such things as dollar stores. The housewares places along Spadina were the go to places for cheap housewares. I like Tap Phong for its emphasis on kitchen stuff: pots, pans, pizza plates, strainers, etc. But wait there's more. Heck you can even get one of those cute little apartment size hook-it-up-to-your-kitchen-tap washing machines. Not sure why everyone in Toronto doesn't buy one of these instead of dropping huge coin in the laundromat.

    Love this place.

It has such a wide variety of housewares from dishes to tupperware to rice cookers. They offer good selection at mid-range prices.

This is a family run place where you can find countless kitchenwares.

I am super impressed at the amount of things this place has. True to its name it sells wholesale and to individuals... the aisles are a bit tight due to the amount of stuff this place has on offer -- but seriously most things are a great deal. I got a great rice cooker, the man helping me was knowledgeable...suggested different types and what exactly I wanted the rice cooker for other than to cook rice if you can believe. I walked out a happy camper. Though before leaving, the cashier was super knowledgeable about her knives and was saying which one was better -- the one from Japan or the one from Germany. Super helpful employees!

Throwing  party or moving into a new apartment?  Tap phong is a good place to start - you can get all kinds of kitchen related things here.  When I used to be in the restaurant business - we would get a lot of different things from here.   Decent prices and great variety of different kitchen items.

If you are looking for sushi serving plates, pots, sushi knives,  or nice chopsticks - this is a place to go.
