After a disappointing bout of failed online shoe shopping (seriously, what was I thinking?  I live in Manhattan, there's really no excuse for me to be online shoe-shopping) to replace my favorite pair of lace-up ankle boots that finally bit the dust after 10 years (does anyone remember the talking shoe that was on TV a really long time ago?  yeah, they ended up looking kind of like that), I decided to make the rounds of the shoe stores in this area.  I almost didn't go in here because I was in their other location and didn't see anything I really liked, but this store has a bigger selection, or maybe just one that's more in line with what I was looking for.  I found not one, but two pairs of shoes that I liked (this is rare - I'm very picky and am usually looking for something really specific - in this case, something simple, classic, and good quality), and both were super comfy.  I briefly considered getting both, but I couldn't really justify that, so after much time spent walking around with one on each foot (during which the sales staff were super nice and patient), I left with a very nice pair of new everyday shoes.  I guess I'll have to get back to you in another 10 years to let you know how they hold up.

Great store! I went here for Toms and left a very happy lady. They have the Toms wedges as well as a pretty basic selection of the regular Toms. I might need those too. I had to avert my eyes from the rest of the shoes because I would have bought everything in there. Very cute stuff.

Only reason I took off a star was that one of the salesgirls wasn't very helpful. Luckily her coworker took up the slack and helped me and the rest of the customers in the store.

This Tani was SO much better for me than the one  on Broadway. Great customer service, very helpful,

A great selection of unusual styles you won't see everywhere. Many are especially comfortable (at last, someone gets that we NYC women WALK!) and yet hip and not old ladyish.

    LOVE IT and will return...

Good selection of Tom's, hope they get more in soon!

The selection of women's shoes is decent and price points are varied.  You can find some casual shoes in the 25-50 range thought most items are $80 and up.  Perhaps it's just me but I found the shop girls at this store to be very rude, unhelpful and more interested in gossiping about their weekend adventures than greeting/assisting customers.  Tip Top Shoes and few doors down is a better go-to store.

This store is fabulous all around.

Delicious shoes (Yes. Delicious.). Tani is dangerous, there is no way I can walk out of there empty-handed. I dare you to go and not fall head over heels in love.

Try it. Seriously. If you're like me, you will fail miserably.

(And don't say I didn't warn you, mwahahahaha!)

Tani! Get out of my head! Stop ordering shoes that make me consider selling my unfertilized eggs for $8,000 like that ad before the movie suggests. Just quit it. Your selection is what I want my closet at home to be filled with exactly, without omitting a single pair. I get drawn in by your siren song of affordable prices and tear my hair out deciding between 8 different pairs.
I hate you and your thrilling ways.
p.s. Stock more size 10, please.

    Oh, god.

I came to Tani today to get a new pair of Bensimon slip-ons, as my current pair is wearing thin in the soles. Not only was I overwhelmed by color options, but by style options, including the new fall colors. While waiting for one of the salespeople to get a size for me, I made my rounds and found an adorable pair of red, Bloch ballet flats. They are amazing and the first pair of red shoes I have ever owned.

The salespeople were definitely the best part, though. They are, like, the nicest salespeople you will ever encounter in New York City. The guy who was helping me--I didn't catch his name, but he was the only guy working there and he looked Hispanic maybe?--was SO nice, I really wanted to give him a hug or buy him dinner or something. They didn't have the color I originally wanted to try on in the ballet flat, so he personally walked over to their other store to get the color I wanted.

Okay, so apparently they have two stores. This location (72nd St.) is apparently more classic, while the other store (69th and B'way, I think?) is more funky and hip. I didn't check out the other one, but this one was certainly enough for both me and my savings account. But hey, good shoes are expensive anywhere.

I only have two feet to dress, but that shall never stop me from going back to Tani!!!

    Best. Shoe. Store. Ever.

Seriously, if I could only buy shoes in only 1 store for the rest of my life, I think Tani would be it.  I kind of fell in love with this store; the shoes are awesome (and inexpensive, too)!  How I managed to only buy 1 pair of shoes when I visited, I have no idea...

Looking for the typical run of the mill shoes?  Then don't head to Tani.  This shoe store doesn't carry any of the shoes you would normally find at David Z. or Kenneth Cole.

No, they carry brands most people haven't heard of... so not only do  you get unique products, they are also quality made shoes.  Well presented and nice sales people round out this UWS store.

Be still my heart!  Tani offers fashionably classic and trendy shoes in a small, manageable store on the UWS.
The salespeople were helpful, but not pushy and I was pleasantly surprised at the diversity of styles and lines that they carry.
Recently I spotted the line of Ben Simon slip ons and sneakers that I have only seen downtown.

I saw the most adorable silver oxfords by Dolce Vita here. Think Tinman, but sexier. I tore myself away from Tani, cursing at the shoes that beckoned me with their patent leather goodness. I didn't need those shoes. Yes I did. No Yes GAHHHH why must the buyer for Tani have impeccable taste? They have everything from Repetto flats to Bronx heels to obscure Italian boots resplendent in their simplicity.

So I left to avoid temptation, only to find these babies under my tree for Christmas from a dear friend.

I don't really wear leather shoes or boots that much. This store has a good assortment at decent prices. They have a selection of Sperry and Toms here so it's a place to definitely a place to check out of your a fan of them.

This store has terrible customer service.  I wanted a pair of shoes and they didn't have my size in the store.  They told me there would be a shipment coming in soon and that I would get me shoes soon.  Well, it's now almost 3 weeks and I still don't have my shoes.  I have contacted them repeatedly and nobody seems to know when this mysterious shipment is coming in.  The shoes are pretty expensive and when I'm paying over $100 for shoes I expect better customer service!

If you haven't made a trip to this shoe boutique yet, then I am very sorry.  You've been missing out... hurry, go grab yourself a big slice of happiness in a hot, open-toed, patent leather pump.  Their selection is spicer than the average shoe spot -- unique/funky/sophistocated.

The UWS is the bomb. And, this place follows suit. Great layout, shoes, service, and prices. Trendy, but not over the top. Affordable, but quality. DC just needs one place like this. Just one. Jeez. What am I doing here?

This is the place to go if you want truly unique and beautiful shoes.   I can't really afford to shop here BUT I have been lucky enough to twice visit the store when they were having a sale.  That is when I feel like I have just crossed over to shoe paradise.  Everything was reduced about 75%.  They seem to have the back room dedicated to their sale items so it's possible there is always a good selection of sale items.  I just haven't been enough.  Whether you're shoe obsessed or simply dabbling (like myself) this store is worth checking out.

Wow.  I have never encountered such horrendous customer service (and for no good reason!)  After purchasing bass boots TWO days ago, I realized that one was defective.  I called up to the store (live downtown) and inquired whether I could exhange them that day even though the box was at home - was quickly told - no problem.  After getting to the store however, I was greeted with the most resistent manager who refused to exhange the shoe.  Despite acknowledging the defect, she said they would have to repair it (which is beyond me how they would repair a chafing button hole.)  Now why they would not just give me another pair of boots in the midst of the snow season (when I can't afford to go w/o) and deal with the reputable Bass Shoe Corp., is beyond me.  Unfortunately, despite their wonderful selection, they have lost this customer - and my many shoe purchasing friends too.

They have comfy cute shoes for men and women. I love that all their shoes are made for comfort, but they don't look like old lady shoes. Super cute, and the staff is very polite. The staff will take your name and number and call you when your shoe style arrives, or for any other follow up. Love this spot!

The reviews are true: the selection is impeccably curated. You won't find "fun" (read: loud) shoes here. Just perfectly simple shoes that you will want to wear every single day. They have the deepest selection of Besimon I've seen in the city. Look, I'm a Francophile. They're a weak spot.

my favorite upper west side shoe store. and I spend a lot of time in shoe stores. offers good selection of moderately priced to expensive shoes for the city girl. check out the outpost around the corner on Broadway between 69th & 70th for a slightly younger, larger (and in my opinion better) selection than the 72nd street store.
