Okay. I've parked in front planning to dine somewhere else and decide to try this place out.  They're fairly new.  I figured it would be enough time now for them to get their kinks ironed out and the food should taste the way they wanted it.
The owner used to work down the street at Shao-Lin's for about 11 or more years and it was time for him to venture out on his own and create his food the the region of China that he was from.  So this food will be a bit different than the one you get at Shao lin Noodles.

After looking at their menu, I figured that what you needed to order here was something spicy, and something off the beaten path in order to get something good.

The tan tan noodles were not bad.  Better than average I would say, maybe I'd like it to be spicier, but then I'm more used to the Chongqing region of food.

That dish tasted fresh and clean.  3.5 to 4 stars.

Ordered the black fungus with Cilantro.  I'd give it 3.5 stars.
I love black fungus, in abundance.

I had a spicy beef noodle soup that was not as spicy as I'd liked, but the flavour was good.  The stretched noodles were maybe a bit chewy for me, but at least it wasn't soppy soff and overcooked.  I don't like overcooked noodles.  I think the noodles could have been streched a bit more.
The pieces of beef were well flavoured and there was a nice balance of vegetables that went with it.  3.5 stars.

We got steamed dumplings average at 3 stars, which I took home and had as a snack later.

The owner was nice enough to even give us a sampling of their green onion pancake.  I liked it.  Light, flaky, not too salty or oily.

The owner was very nice.  It wasn't very busy and the only customers were Chinese Chinese.

On another note, my brother was there before and he thought they were just average.

I do hope they succeed because they have potential.  Yet like most places that have potential, they don't know what to do with it.

The location is good, but they've got to find their niche and market it.  Really let the people know why their food is different and why you should come here.

So in the meantime.  I'd say give it a try.  Try something different.  Be daring and go spicy.  If you really like spicy, make sure to tell them that, or it will just be average and you will be dissapointed.

    That's my viewpoint.

It's hard to review Tang Dynasty without comparing it to its neighbours, Peaceful and Sha Lin. They're all on the same block and they offer nearly the same product. I think that in order for Tang to compete with these other two, it should probably be a lot better than them, since the others are already pretty good and also well-established with faithful customers and frequent lineups.

Tang Dynasty is not better. It's about average. Big portions and acceptable quality, but slightly more expensive and not as many pictures on the menu (Sha Lin has pictures of just about every dish, either on the menu or on the wall, which helps the average customer who is likely not familiar with this kind of Chinese food). The service was good and they didn't rush us at all, even though they were closing by the time we were done eating, so they get bonus points there.

All around decent, but if Tang wants to be number one, it's going to have to try a little harder.

    * Noodle district meh addition *

The Broadway hand pulled noodle district has yet another offering joining the fray.  This entry may not end up being as successful though.

I ordered the latiao noodles with tofu, shrimp and fungus in sour broth.  Oy....The broth was a stereotypical Canadian Chinese restaurant corn starch laden goopy mess with no richness of flavour at all.  It was spiced up with some chili which did not integrate well as it appears to have come too late in the process.  Meh.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...  The noodles themselves were overly clumpy as well as being severely overcooked.  These were not good noodles.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

Just for good measure I also ordered a cumin chili lamb skewer as I can not pass up lamb on a menu.  I got nervous when I heard a microwave door slam, and the tell tale beeps.  Oy......Wasn't surprised when the lamb was overly chewy, cooked from the inside out and then just quickly coated in chili dust after cooking.  I'm guessing they pre-grill and then keep either in the freezer or fridge and then just warm it up in the microwave.  I've never had microwaved lamb skewers before, and I won't ever have them again.  Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

For me, Peaceful (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) is still the best in the area for hand pulled noodles.

Should it be against the law for a place with the word, "Handcrafted" in its name to own a microwave?

The new kid on the block of handmade noodle specialists.

Challenging Peaceful and Sha Lin at their own game take serious chutzpah. Customers around here are noodle connoisseurs who expect & demand greatness!

I came here for a late solo lunch. Was it any good? Yes and no.

The $6.98 lunch combos offer run-of-the-mill dishes (think: lemon chicken, ginger beef) with a side of noodles or rice, stir-fried or plain.

But let's cut to the chase. Noodles are best critiqued (& eaten!) in soup.
So I went with A6 on their regular menu = La mien (pulled noodles) with sliced beef.
6 different varieties of noodles to choose from (pancake, you're next). I picked shaved because my waiter said so. Don't you know a wise old man when you see one?

Noodles: softly chewy, good range of thickness without veering to either extreme - beats Sha Lin's IMHO!
Soup broth: not the traditional deep, rich, star-anise infused base I hoped for.  Only glorified chicken soup at best.
Beef shank: 7-8 hearty slices. Could've used more TLC to really tenderize it though.
Veggies: get your recommended daily serving by eating these gargantuan pieces of Shanghai bok choy!

They claim to use NO MSG. Which softens the blow of the lackluster broth. Kinda.

This place sucks.  We ended up here because Peaceful was rammed but with how inattentive the service was I think we still might have finished at the same time had we stayed.  I always forgive bad service if the food is worth it but the noodles are only mediocre here.  Enough to warrant 2 stars or maybe even 3 if you get lucky, but the Tang Dynasty Masterpiece was the deluxe wonton soup where the broth was just straight hot water... they didn't even try to fake it.

They seated us in the worst table ever, half a booth facing a wall that I could touch, talk about claustrophobic, even when they could have seated us anywhere else! Had I not gone to the bathroom first I would have never accepted it. The waitress was new and did not speak english well and did not know what was going on, though she was sweet she was sweating up a storm and I had to keep turning around and waving to get someone's attention. Eventually the manager served us and he had the worst breath, kept bending over me and breathing on me, made me want to vomit. Our handcrafted noodles were chewy which I did not like and their dumplings were nice and huge though not that tasty and but their spicy pork dish was pretty good, we ate that all up. Prices were not cheap at all especially since I felt like I was crammed in a suitcase. Would not go back to eat in but would get takeout of the spicy pork. Only went here cause the two other noodle houses had lineups out the door, spent $50 bucks on 3 dishes and felt ripped off for that price especially since service sucked and I thought I was just getting cheap noodles.
