Review from Darren S.
Markham, ON
This place may have been formerly called Miss Vietnam a while back, but it goes by Tamarine now. Not sure if there was a change in ownership, but all I have to say is that this is one of the best Pad Thais in the GTA. PERIOD.
We actually were staying overnight around the Brampton/Mississauga area when the craving for Asian food hit, you know how it is. Asking the hotel concierge we were recommended to go to this place, and boy are we thankful for it. It is a nice small cozy place, almost invisible from the main road and certainly with little exposure, but I firmly believe it is one of those 'hidden gems' type of restaurants.
The main highlight is their Pad Thai. If you've read my other reviews (and really, why wouldn't you? :P), you'll know that I really dislike Pad Thais that are simmered in ketchup. While I am not one to harp about whether or not a particular foodstuff is authentic (especially when I don't come from said place-what the heck would I know anyway), I simply can't stand the Canadianized Pad Thai, which I find to be little more than noodles, bean sprouts, and ketchup.
This place gives you TWO versions, you can either order the regular or the 'authentic' Pad Thai. The authentic version is, obviously, the one we went for. It was delightful. Tasty, fresh, and a healthy portion too! I genuinely believe that this restaurant, along with Bali Restaurant, offers the two best Pad Thais I've ever had.
Their curries aren't too shabby either. The only complaint is the rice they serve with the curry is kind of day-old, i.e. not steaming piping hot and fresh. But still, for a relatively low price tag, all their foods are highly recommended.
if you're ever in the area (which is kind of in the middle of nowhere, really), then I urge you to stop by.
PS: Almost forgot, the service is always impeccably friendly and hospitable, if sometimes a little slow during busy periods.
