    Loved the roti canai and Singaporean laksa. Was in a rush and service was prompt and friendly. Head chef is Malaysian and he got the spices bang on.

    Hello... SPICY! This really hit the spot -- my family went here for dinner so we had a chance to try a fair bit of the menu. The atmosphere is really casual and service was attentive and friendly. My water glass never went unfilled and I needed that! You'll need to park on the street (Lonsdale/14th), so I hope you've brushed up on your parallel parking skills. I'd also recommend calling ahead and reserving a table because I haven't seen empty tables at this place.

    Definitely order the roti canai and have a lot of water handy because this is surprisingly hot. The menu says that it only comes with 2 pieces which is a bit misleading, since this actually means 2 pieces of naan and was good for ~3 people so it's good value and delicious! I liked the green mango and papaya salad but I was expecting more green mango and papaya... it was 80% jicama and carrots!

    We were big fans of the tofu goreng, malaysian chicken curry, sirloin beef with asparagus, kari chicken and we keep coming back for the nasi goreng and the laksas. Pro tip: leftover nasi goreng still tastes awesome the next day!

    The heart of Lonsdale Ave has such a wide variety of ethnic restaurants, it's hard to know which one to go to first.

    A recommendation from a colleague brought our group out here for lunch.  A very small place, but the Malaysian food is inspiring.

    I had the Malaysian curry laksa (spicy curry) complete with rice vermicelli,  tiger prawns, chicken, bean sprout, egg,and more.  All in a very good coconut curry soup.  I thought the soup brought out all the flavours in the meal.  And when you're done, don't forget to drink the soup up.  What a refreshing end to the meal.  I didn't get the overwhelming spicy aftertaste where I would usually go through 2 or 3 glasses of water just to get the flavour out of my mouth, but I didn't need to because the soup broth was great.

    Can't go wrong with their laksas - I've tried each of the 3 now, and my favourite is the Assam.  Complex tamarind flavours, a little sweet, sour.

    They use vermicelli noodles and the bowl is loaded with seafood - mussels, cuttlefish, fish tofu.

    Their green mango, papaya salad is really quite spicy.  It's refreshing but maybe I'd ask for the dressing on the side next time.

    I also tried the deep fried soft shell crab with black pepper, comes with sauteed onions.. It reminds me a bit of how my mom cooks liver and onions :P

    * Malaysian in Persia *

    Found in an unlikely location in the heart of the Persian area of Lonsdale, this restaurant had me a bit worried both by its location and the overall slightly non-hole-in-the-wall appearance.  But my char kway teow was one of the better ones I've had in the Vancouver area - go figure!

    It was a generous portion plated nicely (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...).  But perhaps most importantly it had good wok hei - that lovely flavour that many places seem to miss.  The seafood was also perfectly cooked in it.  It is so common to find overcooked squid or shrimp - but not here.  They were perfectly prepared.  Overall a great dish:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

    Went to the North Shore location for lunch which is owned by the same owner, and it was fantastic.  Will definitely be coming back for dinner.
