Review from Chris R.

I should start off by saying that unlike many, I'm far from a Sushi Samurai. I've come late to the game - I didn't get on a (California) roll early, as it were. However, I've eaten at a few different places in Victoria, and this was far and away my favourite.
Reservations were made for 8:00pm, and we arrived shortly thereafter. We walked through the front door, my over-tall head pushing through the hanging cloth over the doorframe. We were greeted quickly and shown to a table.
The first thing I noticed was the racks and racks of chop-sticks over the sushi-bar. It looked as though someone had gotten angry at a bamboo forest and hung up their trophies. My partner explained to me that if you wished to leave a personal set of chopsticks there, you could. Nice touch. Fitting in with the decor - yet homey and personal.
I ordered three sushi rolls - Unagi (BBQ Eel) with Cream Cheese, Dynamite (Tempura Shrimp/Avocado) and Shitake (Mushroom). My partner had California and Tuna with Green Onion.
All of the rolls we had were large, filling, fresh and delicious. The tuna/green onion and the Unagi were particularly noteworthy.
Service was quick, polite and unobtrusive - despite one small error regarding when my partner's tea was to be brought out. The son-in-law of the owner was especially friendly and attentive.
When the bill was presented I was quite happy to pay it - less than a normal meal for two, and leaving just as full and satisfied.
Overall, a wonderful experience. I'll probably be back for lunch today. -

Tamami's my favourite sushi joint in the city. For hot Japanese I'd choose Azuma or Japanese Village, but for sushi, Tamami's top dog. Yoshi is close, but it's far out of downtown, AND way too expensive. Tamami it is.
Tamami is a small, brightly lit restaurants with about 16-20 tables and some bar seating. Behind the sushi chef you'll see a wall festooned with dozens or hundreds of colourful pairs of chopsticks, which belong to restaurant's "regulars".
The prices are reasonable, the restaurant is clean and well lit, the tea is good and they start you off with a hot handtowel, a small touch I really love.
The food is excellent, particularly the tuna tataki. I really think they make the best tataki in town.
I can't really think of a thing to complain about - I love Tamami! -

After all the fabulous reviews on yelp I decided to finally give this place a try. The outside of the restaurant looks unassuming and a little sketchy, but once inside it is very well decorated - I especially liked the chopsticks decorations behind the sushi bar.
We ordered the salmon teriyaki, spicy tuna roll, unagi roll and 3 pieces of nigiri: tako, sake and ebi. The nigiri were nothing special - just like any other place. Same with the unagi roll. The spicy tuna roll was not spicy at all which was a bit disappointing. They added some panko crumbs to the roll which gave it some extra crunch and texture which I liked. Finally, the salmon teriyaki - definitely the best thing. It wasn't overcooked or "rough". It was very smooth and the teriyaki sauce went well. There were two filets served with rice and some veggies.
All in all, I think I would come back. It has decent prices and good quality sushi!
Note: On their menu it says their California roll is made with real crab meat - I definitely want to go check that out -

Tamami is my first choice for sushi in Victoria. It is always fresh and well priced.
My favorites:
Specials - bento lunch and dinner or assorted sushi
Favorite rolls - yam, spicy tuna, negitoro, California
Try the tempura banana and ice cream for dessert. -

My friend and I ate at Tamami Sushi when we were visiting Victoria, and we were impressed! This was the first sushi restaurant I've been to that serves real crab in California rolls. The decorative fresh flower that came with our rolls was a nice little touch. I'd come back again!
