If you want authentic Thai food, this is the spot to go.
I should qualify that, a bit. It's not the only place to go for good Thai food, but it's one place that is as close as you get to eating real Thai food without hopping a jet to Bangkok.
(Oh, and in case you're wondering, yes, I have been to Thailand and eaten the real stuff, not just the stuff tourists get - although I did get some of that, as well.)
I've tried many Thai restaurants in the Lower Mainland - some are so-so, some are pretty good, some are really good. Talay Thai fits the latter category.
(If you don't want to come this far west, there are a couple of other Thai eateries in Burnaby that are also very good. See my other reviews about those ones.)
We've been back more than a few occasions, so you know it's good.
Anyone who's read my other Yelp reviews knows I have a bit of a fetish for matching beers of a particular country/culture with the food of that country/culture (since I'm not really a big wine drinker.) If you're an Italian, you better have Moretti or Peroni, or you won't get my business. Ditto, Thai.
This place offers not only Tiger (a ubiquitous Asian beer available in most Asian eateries) but it also provides Singha, an actual Thai beer. Two thumbs up, just for that!
It doesn't really matter what I've tried here, it's been really, really good: the satays and other appies, the curries, the stir-fries - it's all good.
So is the service - very prompt, very friendly.
The lady who owns the restaurant is Thai and also the main cook, that may explain why the food is so good. At least one of the servers we've had there is her daughter, again, that may explain why the service is so good.
A friend recommended this place to me, and I'm forever grateful...Listed in: Restaurants Where I LOVE to…

First of all, THANK YOU for those who wrote a review about this place! Cheers!
I was searching on Yelp to see where I can find good Thai food because the one I went to last time wasn't all that great. Luckily, I found this place around my neighbourhood and those who left reviews on it. I never even noticed this restaurant at all and I always drive on 67th towards Granville! Shoot me please!
When we got there, the lady greeted us and was friendly throughout the entire meal. Everything I ate, I posted it up already because there wasn't any pictures posted when I searched this restaurant except for the business name/sign. The spring rolls were very tasty! Chicken and pork satay was good! Tom Yum soup could've been better if they served it hot and more spicy. Green curry with beef was my fave! Stir fry was good but less salty was be better! Fried rice (sorry, posted the picture as friend rice -_-") was yummy! Had 2 desserts, deep fried ice cream was ok and the mango with sticky rice was absolute yummy!!! I was so full from the meal and would definitely go back for sure!!!! THAI FOOD!!! LIKE!!! -

Again, one of these restos that are so easy to miss, beside many other stores, on such a major busy street.
Been here a few times for the lunch special, and can definitely recommend to friends and family, as they are Thai-owned. Believe they just returned from their annual holiday in Thailand.
Usually order the green curry, which comes with a salad and a spring roll for under $8!
Just make sure not to park on Granville past 3pm! -

Like the rating says, its "a-ok".
Service is was wonderful. The girls were very friendly and service was prompt.
Spring rolls were the best part of the meal.
The pad thai might be good for some people but for me, it can be improved.
The thai style iced coffee was alright. For me, I would prefer it if it was more creamy. It sort of reminded me of a non-alcoholic version of Kolua.
Other people seem to love it so give it a go! I'll go back when I get too lazy to drive to the other place for thai :PListed in: Cheap Asian Meals

Yup, i'm stuffed from their $8.50 lunch special (9.50 with tax). They substituted tofu for meat no problem. The spring roll was yummy, and so was the red curry i had. My mouth is still on fire so beware, it's hot!
Service was great. Lots of water refills.Listed in: Marpole

I've been meaning to try this place ever since they opened a few months ago, but thanks to my weird eating schedule, the fact that they close between lunch and dinner (on weekdays), plus a roommate who never wants Thai all conspired to keep me away. I finally walked in this evening and was greeted by a very friendly waitress and Thai soft rock on the sound system. So far so good.
Since the afore mentioned roommate declined my invitation, I was dining alone. Unfortunately for me Talay seems to be exclusively a family style type of place. Not a big deal, I just got a whole order of chicken pad thai to myself. It was a little milder than I'm used to, but extremely flavourful, especially when complimented with the lime.
Combine that with very pleasant service and I'll sure be back with some friends to try some other stuff.Listed in: Marpole

I work in the area and definitely take advantage of the $7.95 lunch special often! The lunch special is such a good deal mainly because of the amount of food you get with it. My green curry comes with a spring roll and a large portion of jasmine rice.
I cannot say enough about how good the service is. The servers are very friendly and the food comes out quick even during the lunch rush.
I recommend the green curry (my fav!) but I've also tried the yellow curry and pad thai (both also very tastey!). -

I live in the area and was glad to give this little place a try. I always order take out by just stopping by or calling in ahead of time. For orders over $15 you also get 10% off. I don't know if I can name a favourite off their menu as so many are good but I always go back to the curries. I also love their coconut rice - a perfect blend in my opinion. The staff are really friendly and have come to recognize me even though I only go there every few months (I don't do take out all that often). I am glad Talay Thai opened in my neighbourhood and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Thai food that is quick & flavourful.

Cool beans. I had lunch here today and subbed deep fried tofu for the meat in my eggplant dish, and they did not charge extra. Woo!

I tried this place 3 weeks ago, and have been back twice since. The food is reasonably priced, and so good! Service is great, portion size is perfect. I think my favourite dish is the yellow curry, but I will be going back to try more!

Nice little place, and a great addition to Marpole. The food was tasty and served quickly at lunchtime. Fills a good spot as a dine-in place with decent food for not a lot of cash.
Definitely planning on going back often to sample everything on the menu! -

A neighbourhood restaurant in a location that was previously the long running Mito Japanese restaurant. A welcome addition to the Thai scene. Family in the front of the house and most importantly in the back. The standard offerings in the menu with the rarely offered Chuang Maung (Steamed Flower Shaped Dumplings). Call ahead to reserve the limited supply. Usual suspects of red, yellow and ahhh..green curry BUT also Paenang curry found only at Meenam. Price points are $9-11 for entrees, standard and on the market. Starches such as Pad Thai and Khao Pad Sapparod aka Pineapple Fried Rice with Lap Cheon(chinese sausage) do not disappoint. Stir Frys round up a menu that is not lacking in selection. Home..Home cooking like you was in some side street off the Klongs of Bangkok. No pretensions. Just Mom at the Wok...which is the genuine article here where the chef is the Mom. The family in the front personable and caring in what they bring from the back . Thalay is a place to seek a regular table for that hit of Thailand that your 'buds seek from time to time when you want to remember Sukhmvit or Silom Road.
