I've been to Talay Thai many times before, and their food never disappoints. Their service however, is hit or miss. The server we had  was adorable! She wasn't snobby or acting like an airhead- she had a genuine, relaxed personality. She needs a bonus.

The Spring Rolls and Chicken Satay were super delicious as always, as was the Masaman Curry Chicken (also available as tofu, for you vegetarians out there!) Overall, fast and friendly service and unbeatable Thai food. (Also, they give you mini guava candies at the end of your meal. Suuuuuper yummy!)

I haven't eaten in the restaurant but I've ordered take-out for lunch. The service is super fast, I placed an order for me and four of my coworkers and it was ready in 15 minutes! The serving sizes were huge!! I don't think any of us actually finished, I had my leftovers for dinner and it was still delicious!

I ordered the cashew chicken; it had a great spice to it and lots of cashews!  It doesn't come with rice, so make sure you order some on the side!

They also have a great lunch special menu with lots of options under $10.

My spouse Tara and I were in for lunch this week. It was our first time at Talay Thai and we both are big fans of Thai cuisine.

Their lunch menu is great, offering a good mix of combos for between $9.50 and $11.50. I opted for the Panang Curry Beef (you can choose for chicken or veggie panang also). Tara had the Ginger Chicken.

Our server mentioned it was her first day on lunch service, so she was unfamiliar with the lunch specials and seemed a little frazzled, but she managed just fine. We were there after the lunch rush (around 1:30-2pm) so we were one of only three dining parties and it didn't take long.

Our meals were delicious. I actually liked Tara's ginger chicken combo even more than my own panang curry, so we swapped curries half way through.

Their deep-fried spring rolls were excellent. A close second to my favorite at Chaaba  Thai.

We especially loved the post-dinner lychee flavored candies you get with your bill.
All in all a great lunch experience, and we would return.

Thai fix, pick up the phone and call for take out!!! Fortunately for me, I live right around the corner from this wonderful thai restaurant. Most of the time I take it home with me... but eat in or take out, the staff is amazing and the food oh so delicious!!! The masiman curry and sprig rolls are on my fav list for sure!!!

Prices seem a bit high at first but the portions are amazing and my Thai cravings are always satisfied by this little south end jewel!

More often than not, I get the take out here versus eating in. The dining space is great, and they have good service, but I seem to prefer eating one of my favourite comfort foods in the comfort of, well, my sweatpants.

Most recently, a group of 6 ordered takeout for new years eve, and it was fantastic! We ordered around noon to ensure we'd have the food when we wanted it later, around 7PM, and the food was fantastic. I've got a new favourite dish - Masaman curry - ohmygod, it's fantastic! Sweet potatoes, peanuts coconut milk - an amazing combination.

The only thing I find strange (but this seems to be a Halifax thing, so not necessarily specific to here) is that rice is ordered separately from the curries. I'm used to places in other cities having the rice come with the curries automatically. However, this won't stop me from finding more occasions to order from Talay!

Talay Thai is my go to Thai restaurant in Halifax. I have tried several others but keep coming back to Talay. The food is always good, great service and they offer delivery.
I suggest checking out some of there great lunch specials, good food and really well priced.

This is my go-to place for my curry fix. In a city where it is hard to find good curry (thai or otherwise), they hit the spot and know how to make it spicy to boot. I recommend their green chicken curry as well as most of their soups. It is a little bit in the pricy range but the portions are huge.

Never again.  The food is fine and the waitstaff is very chipper, but really it comes down to why would you go to Talay Thai when you could eat at Cha Baa?

I've ordered delivery from talay thai in the south end a few times, and I find them really inconsistent. Their site was down for a long time (it's back up now, yay!), so ordering was kind of a guessing game as to what would show up. Sometimes it was beautifully prepared and tasty, but I had an order last week in which the rice was bland and the portions tiny. I've often been disappointed that the food I received wasn't anything like the same dish I had ordered before. They do offer gluten free preparation, which is definitely a bonus for me.

I've heard great things about them, and some of the food has been amazing, so I will definitely visit their them and give their dining room a try.

Talay Thai is a staple of the South End, and just writing this review reminds me that it has been way too long since I stopped by. Talay Thai is the most fun when you and a bunch of friends order a lot of dishes and share, so grab some adventurous friends and check it out.

My favorite dishes include the spring rolls, the pineapple chicken and the cashew chicken. The wait staff have been very helpful and informative when I've visited, so if you're unsure what to order you can always ask for suggestions.

On my recent visit to Halifax a friend and I talked about our growing love for Thai food, so it was fitting when she yelled at me "We're going to Talay Thai!" when we were thinking about dinner options one evening.

When we walked in we were greeted right away and seated by the friendly host/server.  Lots of options on the menu, but my 2 of my friends got their usual Pad Thai and another grabbed the spicy chicken with a side of rice.  I went with the Pad Seu Yui with chicken, which I was very pleased with.  All serving sizes were very filling, I scraped my plate clean but my friends were not able to finish theirs.

Prices are pretty on par with other Thai establishments and you get your monies worth from what I can tell.  The servers were really friendly and food came quickly, I didn't really have any time to think about the wait or anything like that.  I also enjoyed the inside of the restaurant, a cozy atmosphere with nice decor.  Definitely worth a try if you're in the area... I certainly hope it's still here when I come back to Halifax again.

Just got the Paneng curry and small rice, it's enough to feed two for dinner. The veg are always fresh and crisp it gets so busy on the weekend that I prefer take out. The kitchen is really consistent except for a few shrimp had their veins. One of my favs in the neighbourhood! Could use a better interior decorator though.

I was looking for a good Thai restaurant that was open until 10 pm on a Saturday, and Talay Thai fit the bill. Their Thai iced coffee was rich and delicious and I liked the decor - simple but classy. My husband enjoyed his pad thai with prawns and I loved the spicy rice noodles with basil, chicken and eggplant. It had the right amount of heat - hot enough to sweat a little but not painful! The portions were large as well and I had enough to take home for lunch the next day (always a plus!).

I would like to first thank my husband for not getting groceries on the day we decided to go to Talay Thai... because otherwise, I don't think i would ever have gone here!

We went on a busy Friday night with no reservations, but we were seated no problem anyway.

I knew most of the items on the menu were at least somewhat spicy, except the rice and I don't really like spicy food, but I figured I would try it.

I had the Panang Curry and I have to say, I liked it so much, I found my own recipe, and now I make it myself.

Thanks Talay Thai... I no longer have to make Prego Spaghetti anymore :)

How lucky was I to be invited to lunch at this wonderful Thai food haven on this shifty skied Friday afternoon.

Andrew and I arrived just before 1pm to find the place alive with patrons settled into almost all of the available tables. We were seated promptly and brought water, while we waited for our dining compatriots.

The menu provides an abundance of options; from sea-creatures to bamboo, piquant to creamy, there's a little taste of Thai to suit just about every appetite. When the "double" portion of our date arrived we chatted and within moments our server arrived, pen poised for order taking. Andrew and I opted to share the veggie green curry and basil tofu, while our compadres chose lunch specials from the back of the menu.

The meals didn't take long to arrive and were presented at perfectly palatable temperatures with crisp vegetables and zippy spice enough to make my taste buds swoon. The portions were ample and reasonably priced, while the service remained attentive throughout our stay.

The lunch crowd dissipated quickly and by the time we'd scooped our last saucy mouthfuls, the place was completely empty. There's something interesting about the way in which humans flock during meal time, and like clockwork, a mass exodus takes place with only dirty dishes and crumpled napkins remaining in the wake.

The dishes at Talay That are flush with flavor and exceptionally balanced between sweet and salty. The space was clean and easy, and the service was attentive and professional. And of course, the company was spot on. A lovely dining experience indeed. I will certainly return to this Barrington Street resto.

This is a great place.  Their black pepper squid is always delicious.
The speed of service is hit or miss; sometimes slow, sometimes fairly quick. This doesn't seem to be correlated to how busy the place is at the time.

I was kind of shocked to see Talay Thai's mediocre review on Yelp, as my experience was decidedly positive, with warm, welcoming service and excellent food that rivals any of the best Thai I've had in Ottawa, Toronto, or Vancouver.  No, the decoration isn't along the hip, clean lines of the nouveau Eastern restaurants out there that charge $35 for Pad Thai; somewhat cliché Thai decorations abound, but if this offends you, you'll have a hard time entering 98% of Thai restaurants out there anyway.  What does abound is honest, tasty, well-prepared food for a reasonable price, which to me is the heart and soul of any restaurant.

This place does seem to fill up fast, so you may want to make a reservation or go early.

Talay Thai is the quintessential comfort food. Full flavouring and grand proportions make this a feasible spot for a Thai hungry tummy.

While its tasty, Talay is probably not somewhere to eat on the regular. I've found the food to be heavy and ultra rich, which is great for that special craving but an acquired taste. On the plus side, impossibly large portions are a great bang for your buck and can leave you with a snack for later.

I've only ever gotten take-out and will probably keep it that way. The restaurant space is fine, but nothing spectacular by any means. My impressions cling to a Westernized cliche of how one might imagine Thai restaurants to be like. (Although, I do believe the owners are actually Thai) Still, its just not the most convincing in aesthetic. And when I'm craving comfort food, the confines of my living room is the ideal situation.

The pad thai is yummy. Huge portions and no holding back. From the noodles, spices, veggies and meats- its all dosed in the fullest of flavors. This food is about taste and less about nutritional value. Its the kind of meal I'd more avoid thinking of the actual methods/ ingredients used in its making. But its rich. The deep fried spring rolls are as good as it gets. Heavy and saturated, but delicious. Ask for extra peanut sauce though, as its served with a sweet & sour. (Not as good, in my opinion!)

Talay Thai is a great spot for a thai treat. Its definitely not something I could put into my regular routine, but there are times when it does hit the spot. Good service, fair prices, abundant portions and the standard Thai offerings.

Spicy and Delish! This was a wonderful surprise for me. A friend was in town and asked to go for supper. I suggested here from all the rave reviews that I have read. I thought he would like it.

We arrived and is was busy, we did not have to wait too long for a table.
Upon seating by a pleasant staff member, we reviewed the menu.
There is a lot to choose from here, I personally like spicy, so we went for a curry dish and pad thai.

This was a fabulous meal that had great portions and wonderful spices.
your taste buds will thank you.

This is definitely a place I will go back to.

The first time I went here my party and I were rudely dismissed saying that the place was full and it would be at least 40 minutes until we could be seated.  I was actually shocked at how impolite they were to potential customers but, since we didn't feel like waiting that long, left anyways.

So, the next time we tried going I was dubious about the quality of service we'd be getting.  Well, I must have caught them on a bad night because this time everyone was so nice.  We still had to wait for a bit for a table but were this time greeted with a smile and polite nod.

The food was delicious!  I'm no Thai expert, but I know what my taste buds like and they sure liked this.  I loved how colourful and saucy my meal was.  I felt extremely full and very satisfied afterwards, which means it was awesome.

First impressions aside, this was a great experience with nice people and tasty, tasty food!

Talay Thai has been excellent every time I have gone there (we go at least once a month).  The food is fresh and delicious with lots of veggies and delicious flavours, and the service is always very friendly.  Depending on how busy they are the service can be a tad slow, but it's always cheerful and warm.

I'm not sure what happened to the first reviewer's experience, but it doesn't seem to focus as much on the restaurant as himself.  I really don't see what rating the restaurant has to do with the fact that he ate leftovers wearing a Motley Crue shirt.  ??

I've tried many other Thai restaurants in both Canada and the U.S. and Talay is definitely my favorite.  The decor is warm and ambient, the staff friendly and the food is beyond delicious.  I highly recommend the Panang Kai chicken, pad thai, green curry chicken, and the spring rolls.  If you are looking for a refreshing drink try the [non-alcoholic] Thai iced tea (I prefer it without cream).  That might be more appropriate in a Thai restaurant than a dirty martini.

Talay is a quick walk from my apartment, so it has come in handy as an emergency take-out solution a few times. I've never had a seated meal there, but eating in the restaurant is for suckers anyways - you can't beat calling in an order from home and then pushing past the 10-person line to pick up your dinner. My order has always been ready in the 15-20 minutes claimed, the perfect amount of time for me to put on my shoes and coat and walk down Barrington.

Having lived on the west coast my whole life, I would never call Halifax Canada's best place for Asian cuisine, but Talay is definitely acceptable in my books. In 3 or 4 orders we've sampled two different curries, pad thai, and a bunch of tofu and vegetable dishes. All of these were tasty, and some were superb. Ordering two dishes and rice for two people always leaves us with leftovers, turning two meals into at least 3.

Side note: Their take-out containers stay shut really well, which was extremely helpful when I had to carry a big order in a back pack. No one likes curry dripping down their back, and Talay Thai is committed to keeping that from happening. Love.

Check out Talay. It's tasty, warm, and there when you need it.

This is one of the Coasts long time winners as best Thai food and I'm a long time fan. Dining room isn't anything amazing, but it is tastefully decorated and the staff are excellent. What keeps me coming back is the chicken pad thai, cashew chicken and curry dishes, which are incredible. It is reasonably priced: you're looking at 12$ dishes. Great place!
