Great for lunch since the lunch prices are better.  The service is always fast and friendly.  The food tastes yummy and the portion size is definately enough to fill you up.  We often bring a large group and push a few tables together.  I usually get the pad siew or whatever since it has fresh broccoli in rice noodles. mmm  And it's not as sweet as the pad thai.  Today I had a green curry with rice and salad.  I wish the rice was more coconuty and the chicken seemed like some sort of pre-prepared chicken pieces.  The flavour of the curry was nice.  I love the taste of green curry.  It would be nice if there was more veggies in the curry as well.  My fave thai on the drive so far.

I can't explain the general lack of solid Thai places in my neighbourhood, but we're constantly disappointed. I had a brief love affair with Ya Yah that lasted for one lovely lunch; but after two lackluster dinner flings we parted ways. Thailicious is delicious, but really pricey and we had a major mix-up with their online ordering system - too high maintenance for me.

So, we abandoned Thailand, headed a bit farther south and got things going with Seri Malaysia. Amazing food, but we were left with heartbreak when the owners closed up shop with no notice.

Take Thai Home was sort of the ugly duckling that I always walked by but never offered it a second glance. When my husband suggested trying their takeout the other day, I figured what the hell.

Turns out turns out this place is exactly what we've been looking for all along - cheap, fast and tasty. The yellow curry was perfectly balanced and came loaded with chicken and the pad thai was nothing short of phenomenal - some of the best I've had in this city. Unfortunately the somtum papaya salad was a miss, the veggies didn't seem very fresh and it was pretty bland, but I'll excuse a crappy salad in exchange for awesome curry and noodles any day.

Excited to try more of the menu in the near future; so far so good.

Been here so many times over the years and it's still never a first choice for dinner because it's so hit or miss.  The flavours of the food are great, one time I had the daily special and it was near perfection but I have noticed a difference between dining in and actually taking it home.

The combos come in one package so your green salad is hot while the wontons are soggy and you don't get the soup with it because somehow soup to-go containers don't exist.  It's always kind of a game to play whether you actually get what you ordered or not.  I ask for brown rice, and pay extra, every time but it's a coin toss as to whether you actually get it.  Last time they got our orders mixed up and by the time they remade it and we left it was over an hour wait for takeout.  Papaya salad is usually my favorite but was more like a soup with all the liquid at the bottom.

The fish and prawns in sauce are really tasty and you end up getting two meals worth, really.  Soup is great, curries are tasty, pad thai is decent but a full order only came with two prawns.

Thai food is probably my favourite thing on the planet to eat, and I don't mind paying extra for the tastiness of a lifetime. . . However in this case I paid extra for the bland, lukewarm experience of a lifetime.

Good points: Super fast service, nice staff and comfortable atmosphere.

Take Thai Home is a hit or miss. The last time I had lunch there I was very disappointed. I had the tom yum which was very flavorless. It wasn't spicey, enough and I could barely taste the lemon grass.  For my main course I ordered the green curry which was watery and not very flavorful either. Overall the meal was bland and the cilantro was the most exciting flavor in the dishes.

The lunch special isn't such a great deal once everything adds up.

I have good days and bad days with this place.

It seems that the prices go up each time I go there and the lunch specials are not that great of a deal after all.

The potatoes in the curry were rock hard and raw, the chicken tasted like it was boiled, the satay was deep fat fried and when you order pad thai to-go, it dries out and tastes yucky in the foil container.

Service is just ok and I notice high turn-over with the front-end staff. I wouldn't want to work there!

Forgot to review after going for dinner last week but I guess that's cos it was pretty forgetable..

The pad thai kicks butt on other thai places I've been to but the service is not the best and I really don't enjoy finding chicken in my tofu curry.

This doesn't mean I won't go back but I'll definitely be trying other places first ...like Ya Yah across the street!!!

I admit it. I am a closeted fan of T.T.H.
We called in a rather large order in for pick up.

Went out (in the cold rain) - to get it and arrived at the moment of bagging.
Good timing, yes. It was well packaged and we arrived back at my aunt's place, filled up the table with a hot and yummy meal.

They had the whole order right, no prob's and we fed 6 with left overs for less than 70 bux inc. tax.

Beat that, I challenge you :-)

If you Love Pad Thai and you like cheap and fast, this is your place!
Awesome lunch specials that are numbered on the menu, but their Pad Thai is the most requested dish by far. I happen to love it but especially theirs due to the extra dash of chopped peanuts and the juicy shrimp on top. Mmmm.
A close 2nd is their appies menu and 3 especially worth noting are the Tiger Prawns in crisp wrap served with Thai sweet/hot sauce for dipping and the crispy wontons and spring rolls are awesome for starters. All in the 5-6$ range.
There are many other curries, noodles and even soup entrees to order but you absolutely must save room for the Wait For It....cinnamon ice cream. It is definitely rich, favourable and a real treat!
Always a favourite, especially in the summer when the open their doors and windows and you can observe the happenings on the Drive. Definitely a winner!

YUM! Came here last night with a friend and really enjoyed the food. We ordered pad thai and green curry with eggplants and chicken. The pad thai is delicious - not too heavy on the sauce (which is good) and a bit of spice to give you a kick. The green curry was just awesome! I loved the eggplants and I especially loved the basil. The chicken, on the other hand, was really dry and over cooked. Still good though!

Price is rather decent for Thai food, however, it is $2.00 for a bowl of rice! Now that bowl of rice was uber expensive!

I can't wait to come back for their lunch specials. Lunch specials start at $6.50!

Good cheap lunch specials, starting as low as $6.50 for pad thai. Many of them include soup or a salad -- or both! My boyfriend's bbq chicken lunch special had both a small soup and salad, in addition to the chicken and rice, and was apparently delicious. My chicken with cashews was fine, but not exiting. The yellow curry was pretty great, and my friend's Tom Ka soup looked amazing.

Lunch specials are on until 3:30 everyday. The prices for the lunch specials on the website don't look super up-to-date from what I remember of lunch yesterday.

First let me say that I LOVE THIS PLACE! It was my first introduction to Thai cuisine and it got me hooked for life.  This cozy little Thai cafe serves fresh food at reasonable prices.  I got hooked on Pad Thai but eventually expanded my horizons into numerous different types of curry (pumpkin is my favourite!).  I've heard that the owner frequently makes trips back to his native Thailand and often brings back new recipes to try out.  Not only does this place serve amazing food, but it also has a wide variety of drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

You can come into Take Thai Home anytime of the day and be guaranteed a seat as a lot of customers "take thai home" haha.  I recommend going in the summer when you can sit on the patio and watch the eclectic commercial drive scenery.

Take Home Thai is fresh, delicious & kind to the wallet - a triple threat!

I had a dinner combo, which included a small soup (clear, sweet and sour broth with crunchy vegetables - yum!), a Panang Shrimp Curry (tasty but only 3 prawns), rice and a salad for only $9.80.

I'm not usually a huge salad girl in general, don't get me wrong, I enjoy eating salad while deciding what I'm ACTUALLY going to eat (maybe steak?), but I couldn't get enough of this one! The crunchy freshness was the perfect compliment to the creamy curry and the dressing was some kinda sesame-sweet-spicy-amazing. Thai beers are available, Singha and Chang, and both make good choices to round out the classic Beer/Curry combo.

Take Home Thai was busy when we arrived and my soup and curry both came out a little cold. They were delicious (after the waitress microwaved them for me - with a smile too, nice service) and I think only a result of a busy night, not a big deal.

This place has a nice atmosphere in the evening, with low lighting and candles on the tables. It is obviously a very casual cafe-style establishment during the day, and this carries through into the evening, with orders being placed at the counter (no table service) and meals coming out in a haphazard style rather than structured into appetizers, entrees etc. I think this is a shame, although their clearly booming takeout business (their was a constant stream of customers picking up orders while we had dinner) may be more of a focus.

I have been here a few times. They are always friendly and quick. I haven't had a bad experience.  I don't think their curries are as good as ya yah thai across the street, but their pad Thai is better and they are quicker and better set up for take out meals.

I cannot believe I have been working on Commerical Drive for almost two years and haven't tried Take Thai Home yet. I'd heard good things and was not disappointed. Its not the most authentic or creative Thai food I've ever tasted, but it definitely packs a punch in the fast and thrifty categories.

I stopped by for a quick meal before catching a movie at Van East. Our group was served quickly and everyone was happy with their meals. I had the seafood in 3 flavors sauce - sweet, sour, and spicy was a winning combo in my book. The red curry looked interesting with nice big chunks of pumpkin and got the thumbs up from one companion. I will have to sample that next time. Another friend loved the Thai Noodle Salad with Tofu and the Cashew Chicken was a favorite for the less adventurous eaters in the group. I also tried the Chang Beer which was a slightly sweet brew that rounded out my meal nicely. I will definitely be Taking Thai home more often!

Quick, cheap and tasty. The owners of Thai Away Home divorced. She got the ones called "Thai Away Home" and he renamed the ones he got to "Take Thai Home". This location is great as it serves beer and has more tables than than the others. My favorites are the Pad Thai and the yellow curry. Order at the counter and they either call you or deliver it to the table if they aren't busy.

I enjoy coming to this place, not least because it seems to be the only Thai place anywhere near where I live. It's passable Thai food, quick and cheap and tasty. I stopped in for takeout this weekend when I had a cold and conventional chicken soup just didn't appeal. I started jonesing for tom ka gai, and needed a fix. I'm sensitive to spice, and while most Thai places here in Vancouver (as opposed to ones I've eaten at in Seattle) don't seem to ask about spiciness levels when you order. It's kind of one-size-fits-all, which for me, doesn't necessarily fit. I like the flavours but not the heat. In any case, Take Thai Home's tom ka is a little bit spicy but not so it's unpalatable to me. In fact, it totally hit the spot. I also had a spinach and garlic dish which was quite tasty (though I made rice at home to eat with it). It's really hard to park around there, but otherwise this is one of my standards for neighbourhood takeout.
