My partner and I eat here about 3x a week and it's definitely the best in the area. The owner is always polite and caring, always making sure to connect with customers as much as possible. Always greeting clientele and always open for a quick chat (as time allows) we look forward to eating here each and every time.
Food is always top notch at a great price, servers are lovely. We've eaten at every sushi restaurant north of the TransCanada. Take is among our other 2 favourites.
Thanks so much Take,
Eric & Julia

I ate here before watching a movie across the street (Dolphin Cinema). I ordered the Teriyaki combo and it included beef teriyaki (or chicken), tempuras (yam, shrimp, squash), California rolls, and rice! The presentation was great, and it is such good value for less than $10.
The food was delicious and satisfying.
The service was polite, and efficient. It's a small restaurant, yet it was quite busy for a Tuesday night (about 5 other tables were occupied).
I would recommend this place if you're nearby. -

This place is only a 10-15 minute walk from my apartment - and I'm so glad I came here!
The service was great. I was greeted with a hello from the hostess and the chef's as well. The staff are obviously happy and seem to be treating there customers very well.
I found the food to be good, not great, but good. They had a lot of selection too which I liked.
I would definetly come back here again! -

The owner is also the sushi chef here as you'll always be greeted by him as you come in. The interesting thing about him is that he immigrated to Canada from China as a young teenager and shortly began working in Japanese restaurants. So he had been trained by Japanese chefs for quite a long time before he started his own sushi restaurant.
He prides himself on the quality and service of the whole restaurant. While he is usually busy behind the sushi bar with the raw fish and rolls, he uses his vantage point to ensure the servers are properly tending to each table and lets them know if a table needs something. He'll even take orders from the sushi bar if the server is busy in the kitchen!
I like to see what's on his blackboard for fresh specials and get his take on it. He's very honest to say exactly how fresh the item is.
My favourite part of eating at a sushi restaurant is eating at the sushi bar, but at this restaurant, I can have that experience without sitting at the bar! -

Take Sushi is a bit of a plain-Jane in the looks department, but it offers good value - plenty o' food for a little money. I rolled in with a friend for a late lunch at the halfway point of a bike ride around Burnaby, and we were hungry and craving sushi.
We both ordered lunch box specials, of which there are several to choose from, most under $10. My nigiri sushi box ($9.25) included salad and miso soup; salmon, tuna, kani (crab) and tamago (egg) nigiri; and five pieces of assorted tempura. The sushi was fresh well-presented and satisfying. (I'm starting to find it tough to say new things about sushi when there's so much of it out there. It's either good or it's bad - and Take's was good!) The tempura was great - neither too greasy nor too dry - and I loved that they included shrimp with the lunch box special.
Like I said, we were super-hungry when we came in the door, and when I got back on the bike my tummy was more than a little full.
Our server was really sweet too, and a quick hand with the tea refills. Itadakimase. -

Great tasting fresh food.
The calamari in the salad wasn't the crispy tentacle kind I usually like, but it was still good.
I'd come here again if I was in the area. -

So I used to come here when it was a different sushi place. Since I was hanging out with my friend on the Heights, she suggested we go here.
I haven't been here (this place, not this restaurant) in almost a decade. Seriously, a decade. I am not sure if they are the same owners, but this place seems to have gone through a huge upgrade. Their a la carte menu is huge, but their meal options are small. Their prices are reasonable though and they have a Specials Menu above the sushi bar.
Both my friend and I got the Beef Teriyaki meal ($8.95). It came with miso soup, tempura, rice, teriyaki and a california roll. Yum yum. This place is awesome. The soup was very good. The pieces of seaweed in the soup were big enough so that I could avoid them. The tempura was two prawns, a yam, a squash and a carrot. Their batter is really light and crunchy. Their teriyaki is good. It sits on a bed of onions and bean sprouts. The roll was good. It stayed intact from the plate to my mouth.
They were very nice. The restaurant was busy too. We had to wait ten or fifteen minutes. They came around a couple times and refilled the teas. If I am ever in the area, I might come here again. -

By far, the best sushi in North Burnaby. The place is clean, ingredients are always fresh, and the owner is the head chef so you know you're getting quality. It's best to order take out during peak hours. The place is getting quite popular. FYI, they're closed all-day Mondays.
Try the Take Roll or Pacific Roll. -

I love their rolls! They sooooo yum! We come over from North Van to eat here every month or two. I love the sunshine roll and the take roll.

This place was really good. Actually I would give it 4.5 stars. But I really like they didn't put too much rice on their california rolls. The spicy tuna was okay, but they put a korean paste style spicy sauce on it. I would have preferred a more liquidy sauce on my spicy tuna. But that's just me. I really liked the ebi sunomono. It was very fresh and tasty. However, I can't compare it to anywhere else because I don't usually order it. But i might now.
It turned out to be $19 with tip and tax for: Ebi Sunomono, California roll, half order of spicy tuna, and a miso soup. And that was just for me. -

The best sushi I have had in my life. I used to visit my bf that lived out there and I made him go with me every time. The service is great and they're always so nice! It's a diamond in the rough, but it's a great find!!
Get the take roll if you go there, I still crave it. -

Hmm, I didn't have a good experience here. The salmon was slimy - meaning it's not fresh and it sure didn't taste fresh. I'm sushi-freak and their rolls didn't spark me. Over priced in my opinion - mind you I usually only go to restaurants that offer good food and cheap prices. Their so called alaska roll was really sad - sushi town which is only a five minute drive away tastes way better and is cheaper!
I doubt that I'll come back. There was simply nothing good other than the tables being cleaner than other restaurants. -

Okay so I didn't realize I still haven't written a review for Take Sushi. I've been coming to eat here since the store opened and I've always left happy. My review may be a little biased because the owner of the store is a family friend and so whenever we go out to eat for Japanese, it'll probably be here.
The owner is a young man by the name of Jason and it is a family run business. They have your typical sushi (dynamite, california, yam, etc), as well as udons, teriyakis, tempuras, miso, and so on. Their tempuras are delicious (the mom makes it in the back) and do not have that nasty greasy feeling to it at all. They always get us to try appetizers (the green seaweed salad, delicious, not really sour like some places). The miso isn't bad either.
My favourites (before I turned vegetarian) is this tuna dish and their calamari salad. The tuna dish is a large piece of tuna, that's been half cooked. So the outside of the fish is cooked, but inside is still raw and the entire dish is half submerged in this sauce. I really really enjoyed that. Also, the calamari salad has a really great mixture of greens that seriously compliment each other with a tasty dressing. They also have a lot of special house rolls (I don't even remember the names of), but they are all freshly made, some are very colourful, with a drizzle of sauce on top. All the sushi is at a decent size and the rice is consistently good.
Like I said, cause we are close friends with the owner, service is fine. But I do notice that the other new waitresses they employ are not always very friendly. The owner himself is very nice and likes to talk to customers and get to know them though.
This sushi joint does do a lot of take outs, so be prepared to see people waft in and out often. But totally go try their special house rolls, calamari salad, and the tuna dish. -
Review from Jeong S.
It's good quality fish for a reasonable price. I'd strongly recommend this place as a take-out rather than dine-in. The service is reasonably friendly, but not terribly effective. I find things like being served my entree way earlier or way later than than the rest of the people at my table sort of annoying. If you're more laid back about stuff, then you might find this place to be more of a four star place.
