one thing is for sure, this place is nowhere near a "cute little pet store".

i think more appropriately this should be described as a "cute cornucopian pet store".  it doesnt really roll off the tongue, but it sure fits.

(ORIGIN early 16th cent.: from late Latin, from Latin cornu copiae 'horn of plenty' (a mythical horn able to provide whatever is desired).)

indeed this place caters not only heavily to dogs and cats on its first floor but also birds, fish, gerbils and other rodents on its basement floor.

as you walk inside to your right is a whole wall devoted to cat crawling scratch tree post thingees.  (sorry for using "thingee" but who the hell knows what those things are called.).  these wall or sections of wall themes continue throughout the store.  walls of leashes, collars, toys and outfits.

they have towers of beds, a little library of books about parenting for pets; its very comfortable you can read a book, stare at the fish in the large fish in the tank that sits at the centre, and if you are sufficiently engrossed and distracted, chomp on one of their 2 dollar homemade-looking dog biscuits.

if you go downstairs they have a whole half floor dedicated to bird cages.  the other half has synthetic and natural stuff you can put in your fish tanks.  along the eastern wall, they have birds and rodents for sale.  the only thing theyre missing are dogs and cats.

so this store is somewhere in between small pet food stores you see around the city and larger pet stores like pjs pet centres. i only cross checked one item in terms of price and it turned out to be the same price as another place (timmie doggie outfitters).  for the most part i can get what i need closer to where i live, but if there was a hard to find item that i needed sourced, id try here first.

Over the past year or so Tails has become a weekly stop for me and my family. Most of the time we don't even end up buying anything. But it's always great to stop in and say hello to the staff and the animals. They've helped us plenty of times with our dog Patty. When we first got her they set us up with everything we needed. We also got our hamster "chewy" there.

I think the most unique thing about Tails is that-- not only do they help charity and have partnered up with an animal adoption organization-- but they really love what they do and know what they're talking about. They've also been kind enough to special order me the toys and treats that i want and they don't have in stock.

Tails is a store that I would recommend for anyone, whether you're looking for something different, someone who wants to further educate themselves about their pet or get the scoop on food nutrition for dogs. Tails is an excellent place. Two thumbs up !

I tend to frequent this store more than I'd like to.  Why's that  you ask?  Picture this....

I'm walking my giant, stupid, strong yellow lab down Queen East.  All of a sudden he starts frantically wagging his tail and dragging me to Tails!  He rushes the door with beads of drool flying all over the place and tries to shove his nose in the door.  I gasp to keep up and as I open the door he rips into the store and starts sniffing every delicious morsel they have (and once you add up the treats, the bones, and the abundance of dog food you can see that there are many delicious morsels.)  As soon as he sees a staff person his excitement is transformed into a pitiful, mournful gaze in an effort to communicate that he is STARVING and needs a treat immediately.  It *always* works and they happily give him some treats.  He is pitiful, but it works.

I'm not actually sure I've ever purchased anything here, but the service is nice, the selection is nice, and  since they feed my dog I should give them a good review.

Ok, I admit I am a little crazy about my kittens and I went to the beaches this weekend specifically to visit this store. I ended up a little disappointed.

First off, this store seems to have a lot more for dogs - which I can understand, but its to the point where I only found 1 style of cat collar amongst a huge aisle of dog collars. The cat toys are in the back, and this might be the first time I've gone to a pet store without buying them a new toy. There wasn't much selection, my local Zellers has more toys, to be honest.

There is a great selection of both dog and cat foods and treats. Lots of premium brands, and at the same kind of prices I find at PJs or Global Pets, so thats good. I noticed a section of either frozen or refridgerated food claiming to be the freshest you can get. I like seeing that option, thats something new.

The cat and dog carriers are very expensive here - $130-ish for ones on wheels, and this isn't the strollers, by the way. Just the regular ones you'd use for a vet appointment or travelling.

I like the set up and I can totally see how this would be awesome for dog owners. The "library" area for reading pet books is really cool, but I don't think its an environment where I'd actually feel comfortable lounging and having a read.

I was there for a while and never once asked if I need any help (even though I'm sure I looked lost). I guess its better than pushy sales people, though.

If you have a dog or are a dog lover, Queen Street East is the place to be! They have a million and one dog stores in the area. Tails is a cute little pet store.

Have you ever wondered where people buy those dog strollers? Well I think I may have found out where... Personally, I think buying a baby stroller for your dog is too much.. Tails has some really neat things, such as doggies bagels (different flavours too)! Only 5 for $1 or 25 cents each, you can't go wrong!

One thing I was seriously considering buying was the doggie towel/robe! The cutest thing ever!! They also had these rubbery boot covers for your pups paws. They basically look like little balloons! too adorable, and it beats buying those heavy booties (especially if you have a tiny dog).  Too bad my dog doesn't like walking in the snow or rain, or I totally would have bought a package.

Tails is my favourite place to shop for my pets' food, treats and toys.  The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable and they stand behind everything they sell.  Their return policy is so amazing that i can try all kinds of treats and food on my   finicky cat and they'll let me return anything he doesn't like!  It's refreshing to find that they also know and care a lot about the little critters too.  My rabbit really enjoys all the toys and chews i find for her, and they've really helped me out when my betta got sick.  Not at all your average store!  The new location is really central to everything in the beach and I love that they will also deliver if I need to stock up on the bigger items.
