The prices here seem to have crept up a little while the portion size of the congee has shrunk slightly, but overall the breakfast special is still quite the deal.

They do have off days, when the fried noodles come out a little too greasy with not enough salt.  On the other hand, when the stars align, I think they have the best rice noodle wrapped Chinese donut drizzled with peanut and prune sauce in the city.  Yummy!

This is, imho, the best Chinese / cantonese style breakfast place in the Lower Mainland, bar none.

I had read reviews about Tai Hing in the Chinese PLEM magazine and various food review websites including here on Yelp. The exterior appearance has always turned me away with so many other choices in this area of Richmond. Today, my craving for congee took control of me to try Tai Hing for the first time.

I was greeted by friendly servers. Their menu is brief with congee and noodle dishes as their features. I ordered a Hong Kong style congee with a side order of rice rolls for only $5.35+tax. That is an exception price. What was more exceptional was the quality and authenticity of these dishes.

I grew up in Hong Kong in the 70's when there were still the street side vendors ("dai pai dong" to the Chinese). Since leaving Hong Kong, I have never came across the same taste of genuine Hong Kong congee and rice rolls as I tasted here at Tai Hing. Memories of my Mom's cooking came to me. As some if the other Yelpers commented, Tai Hing is a step above Congee Noodle King.

Service was quick and efficient. The seating was very comfortable with very minimal decor inside. Don't let the outside of this restaurant (or the crowded parking lot) turn you off. If you are a fan of good congee and rice rolls, Tai Hing is the place to go. You won't find this quality at this price anywhere.  I am looking forward to returning to Tai Heng for lunch soon!

Tai Hing, the best congee specific restaurant in British Columbia. If you disagree, please leave me a comment and prove that I am wrong. I know a lot of people go to Congee Noodle King on Kingsway. I just want to challenge everyone. When you leave Congee Noodle King, or No. 9 on Lansdowne, do you have an urge to drink more water or feel an itch on the throat. That means they`ve been adding crazy amounts of MSG into the congee. At Tai Hing, you will not have that problem.

You will find this place at a strip mall on Park Drive, Richmond. It looks like a hole in the wall, and so does the other restaurants beside it. What I can tell you is that this strip mall contains some of the best restaurants in Richmond in terms of taste. (Chen`s Shanghai Restaurant, Moutai, Shun Xin Hot Pot, Torarenbo)

We always order the congee + choice of rice noodle wrap or fried noodle combo, and you should too.

Preserved Egg and Pork Congee. If you`ve never had preserved egg before and can`t get passed the fact that it`s black. Just close your eyes and eat it. It has a jelly like texture, and soft in the center. Pork was soft, and melts in your mouth.

Soya Sauce Fried Rice Noodle. So simple and please try the chili paste with it. It`s the best way of eating this dish.

Sliced Beef Congee: Soft as it can be beef sliced. The flavour of the beef absorbed by the congee.

Rice Noodle Roll. Again, so simple but so good. The rice noodle itself doesn`t have any flavors. It`s job is to absorbed the special prepared soy sauce.

Recommendation: We didn`t order it this time but everyone should try fresh fish congee. You will taste how fresh and tasty the fish is, and the congee combined working in harmony.

End of the day. $11.98 before tips. You can't even get one order from Chez Cora for that price.

I haven't cone back for a breakfast a decade, it didn't change much. The congee shop was old and not too clean.

We ordered 2 sets of congee and Chinese donuts for breakfast.
The minced beef congee was ok but the HK style "boat" congee was so watery after awhile.

The pan fried vermicelli was salty and rice roll was smooth but tasteless. The Chinese donuts was not crispy and quite oily.

Well, $5 for a set of Chinese breakfast, no expectation or complain.

I would go out of my way just to have a congee from this place.

The cafe is a small hole in the wall place in Richmond.  The environment is definitely not attractive looking.  The service is slow and not  friendly.  There is about 10 styles of congee to choose from and they offer a variety of noodles (friend, steam, in soup) as well. The price is great with congees around $5.00.

The only thing that makes me go back to this place again and again is the delicious congee.  The congee tastes even better the next day as leftovers.

One of my favourite congee is the meatball congee.  It's crazy, but it's not on the menu.  You have to verbally ask for it.

The food and prices are good. But the service is not that good. I should say some of the servers always provide good services while a few of them are just not willing to do their work. But I still keep coming back to this place as there are not too many restaurants selling as good congees as Tai Hing in Vancouver or Richmond. This place seems a bit dirty to me too.

Awesome!! One of the most authentic and cheap HK style congee places in GVRD!

Service: Not much, but then I didn't expect any at a place like this.

Ambiance: None. Just here for food. Workers tend to talk quite a bit to each other. Chinese radio station is always on. It's not dirty, but may be not as nice looking as other Chinese places...but hey, you get what you paid for.

Menu: A wide variety of congee (and other sides) to choose from.  They have combos too!

Food: Tasty. Good. Just like any HK congee joint. Quite a bit of ingredients in there.

Value: Awesome. $5 for congee and a side.
