My knowledge of authentic Mexican food is limited, but my gut can attest to my enjoyment of food in general. I ordered a regular shrimp burrito, and it came with salsa & chips which didn't surprise me. The surprise was the grilled pepper that I also found in the bag after I opened it up. The grilled pepper combined with the delicious, delicious burrito, meant I was pretty much in food heaven.

The location is not out of the way for me, so I will be making regular lunch runs in the future. You might want to give it a chance, too. :)

    BEST TACOS EVER.

Seriously. Primo's tacos are heaven in my mouth. My coworker occasionally drives here for lunch and is kind of enough to always pick up tacos for all of us. I've never been to the truck myself so I can't speak for the location but the tacos are off the hook!! They are amazing and piled with deliciously grilled meat atop two small soft tortillas. For $1.75, they are a steal! You can also upgrade to a supreme taco and they will melt cheese in between the two tortillas (quesadilla taco? tacodilla?!) and add sour cream on top. I always add avocado to my tacos and they're VERY generous with it :) All orders come with chips and salsa, too.

If I had only two foods on a deserted island it would be breakfast burritos and tortas from Tacos El Primo.

Parked dangerously close to my work, I'm over there almost everyday, even if it's just for a soda. The service is always fast and friendly and the food is always delicious.

Still five star.  Still as clean as an operating room (look at those Public Health inspection scores!)---and authentic.  Sometimes we go high-end for lunch---sometimes not---but whenever someone says "Hey, what about the Taco truck", everyone goes in on the order.
And it's delicious.  The vegetarians are happy (great vegetarian taco and tasty, fresh fish tacos)---those craving authenticity are amused---(esophagus tacos?) and the rest of us are just full and happy.

Go to spot.  Have shown it to people from other parts of town when down in this end of town for lunch and they are always startled at how good the food is---and how incredibly affordable it is too.

    Long live the taco truck.
Now---can you guys open a second one on the North end of town?

(useful note: they'll take phone orders and as far as I know, they're gone by 2:30 pm)...

Hot damn, son... this just might be the best taco shop I've ever eaten at; and not just in San Francisco, but anywhere else in the world (including Taiwan!).

Growing up in San Diego, I was blessed with an embarrassment of riches when it came to great Mexican food. It's no secret, so I won't wax poetic justice like Janet Jackson on that ass, but it goes without saying that the Mission style Mex has nothing on our wacky neighbors to the south. And because of the close proximity to the United States/Mexico border into Tijuana, I've also put my life in danger numerous times by eating off of questionable roadside grills and shady seafood shacks more than I can count, so I think I've experienced enough indigenous cuisine to make these claims. Well, enough experience for a goofy white guy, I suppose.

I don't spend very much time in this neck of the woods, so when I found myself in the area yesterday on the heels of a quick business pow wow, I decided break out that nifty Yelp iPhone app and see what was cookin' in the immediate proximity. To my delight, a no frills taco truck by the name of Tacos El Primo caught my eye with a near perfect rating, so naturally, I had to set the ol' GPS towards its permanent parking spot on Yosemite & Jennings to give it a whirl.

Lucky for me it was the end of the day, so I didn't have to wait very long. I wasn't terribly hungry, so I asked the friendly fellow at the order window what the three most popular tacos were from customer experience (annoying, I know... but how am I supposed to learn without asking?). He recommended the carne asada right off the bat, but since I don't eat beef, I asked for the next two. Those recommendations were the pollo asado and al pastor tacos, so without hesitation, I ordered one of each. After a short wait, I was handed a paper plate wrapped in tin foil with a bounty napkin pulled right off the roll, and I was back to my Nissan Sentra Hybrid in two shakes of a lamb's penis (that's how the saying goes, right?).

I think you can easily guess the summation of my masticating experience at this point: it was outstanding. Easily some of the most authentic and savory grilled animal carcass I've had the pleasure of swallowing in recent memory. Never mind the fact that it was the messiest meal I've ever consumed in a moving automobile, (sorry, Zipcar!), the impending explosion of hot sauce, grilled onions, cilantro and excess meatstuffs that ended up in-or-around my face was enough to make me pull over and finish the rest in a safe place. I highly suggest you do the same to avoid a similar disaster.

This place is in the middle of nowhere, but if you have a good friend with a car, you really should make an effort to pay them a visit. They're even open on Saturdays, so if you can't make it during the normal work week, make it an adventure on the first day of your weekend!

    *** 4.5 Stars ***

After trying food from the last two taco trucks, I had to put a review up for Tacos El Primo. Yes, they get 4.5 Stars, whereas the last two food trucks, would probably score a 2.5-2.75 (rounded up to 3-stars, but not quite 3 stars) in my book. Why? Because even when the food gets cold, it still tastes pretty effin' delicious! They've got flavor, baby!

Now, this place is in a pretty shady part of town, but you know what? It's f'ckin' tasty! They know how to rock street food!!!

Uh, of course, I only order when one of my coworkers is doing the food-run. However, if you like being surrounded by construction men and day laborers--this will be your new hot spot.

    Update:

Recent restaurant safety inspection gives them a 98. So, if you're worried about taco trucks because you're a weakling hypochondriac, maybe that'll help.

They do a ceviche tostada and it's great. ...Pile of ceviche on top of a crispy tostada with avocado slices on top. Good stuff! Not the most high-end ceviche in the world in that there aren't whole shrimps, etc, in there but rather it's all chopped up into the mix. Still extremely tasty though! Putting it on top of a tostada is a great idea, and it's very well priced compared to your typical ceviche!

Breakfast burritos, which I hadn't had before because mornings are not my thing, are wonderful. Huge, tasty, etc. (BTW in the early morning the truck is usually not in the same spot. They tend to be a block up towards McDonald's somewhere between Yosemite and Van Dyke)

...my 'usual' is now 1 carnitas sopes (darn good) and a ceviche tostada...

The owner (whether or not his name is Primo, I actually don't know), btw, is a super nice guy if I didn't mention that last time!

I wish Primo was my cousin so he would hook me up with his free tasty tacos...but since he's not, I'm more than happy to drop $1.50 for either the tasty ass carne asada, carnitas or al pastor.  In a random area in the HP, the constant line up of customers is not random.  i happen to work nearby but the tacos are good enough that I would make the trip out.  The Super burritos are solid, but the tacos always hit the mark.

Primo is super friendly and the food comes out quick...with the volume he's doing, everything is super fresh.

Thanks for holding it down in the HP, these tacos remind me of tacos in Mexico.  La Taqueria is still my fave for a special taco, but for straight up authentic Mexican tacos, Primos is on point!

Considering I work in an area consisting solely of warehouses in Hunter's Point, this taco truck is a true life saver.

Great prices and good food. Ceviche Tostada - 3 bucks? Pretty scrumptious Super Burritos too.

I take away 1 star bc the salsa they use is this gooey stuff they probably buy at Costco. But hey, can you really blame a taco truck for not having fresh salsa?

Not a super huge fan of Taco Trucks, unless drunk and stumbling down the street, but my friend (the only white guy to live in bayview) recommended this place, and it was pretty decent.

Clean place, check the health score card, a little ghetto neighborhood (parked in the industrial area of bayview)

Carnitas burito is decent, and so is the ceviche (sp?) if you're there, and hungry, I would say go for it.

Two words...super tacos. You think it's just another taco until you bite into the cheesy goodness. They use two corn tortillas to make a mini quesadilla and then they put all the fixings of a taco, topped with 2 slices of avocado. It's so tasty! My meat of choice is carne asada.

If you go by this taco truck, you should definitely give this one a try.

Being Chinese, I'm not afraid to eat anything. So of course I went for the especial, Tripas. I have to say that this may be my favorite meaty option. The innards had a wonderful dense, chewy tenderness. More importantly, the flavor was bold.

I'm sad to report that the carnitas were not as good as I remembered or perhaps I may be clouded by my experience at Nopalito.

theres really not much to eat around here.... often times, we head out to hard knox down third, hell sometimes we hit up the outer sunset for "interesting" lunches....

tacos el primo is a standby. we are lucky to have this taco truck here. real good stuff. i may not know whats authentic or whatever, but my warehouse guys introduced me to this place. i started off at a "fancy" taco joint down the street with their 6 dollar seafood and steak tacos piled up so high you need to eat it with a fork....... the warehouse guys brought me some tacos from here....  one taco and i was sold.... since then, ive become a frequent vistor to the many taco trucks in sf and occasionally on international in the biggity.

this is definately one of the best out there.

destination spot? not really. if youre in the area though, stop by.

This taco truck is awesome.  We moved into a warehouse around the block on Armstrong and were looking for somewhere other than McD's and pizza delivery.  Everyone kept talking about how good it was.  (I generally stay away from taco trucks, had a really bad experience one time. . .if you know what I mean)  OMG!!  I'm usually picking up lunch at this place if I don't tote my own.   My favorite is the shrimp super burrito. . .it's so freakin good.  Their chicken and steak are great as well,  they even have ceviche mmmmm.  The price is right and the portions aren't skimpy.  Definitely try them out if you haven't yet.

Excellent Mexican finger food (tacos, burritos, quesadillas) as well as entrees (seafood plates, eggs, etc) combined with friendly service and sidewalk seating.  Great selection of Mexican sodas, although towards 2pm onwards they run out of Mexican coke.  This is a taco truck, so cash only and they end around 5pm.  Very nice people - I work in this area and tend to only come here for tacos/burritos.  Even when they're superbusy they are still fast, and they use a number system so that nobody's order can get lost! Get their phone number and you can call in an order to pick up :D

this place is super close to my work so lunch time we like to walk over and grab a burrito. pretty good burritos for the price, around 7 bucks. always a solid burrito for a taco truck.  once we asked to make a ten dollar burrito and that thing was massive. able to finish it though. used about three tortillas. always get the carne asada or the carnitas. but then again, thats what i always get from all mexican places. the tostadas are really good too especially for the price of a couple bucks.

Yes, the tacos are solid solid solid. I don't, however, recommend the torta. It is not solid, at all. I've ordered it twice now and have been disappointed twice. It's just not done very well. Anyway, this truck is worth the trip for fresh and tasty tacos.
