This is one of the best taco shops I've been at so far, and living in SD, that says a lot. They have an awesome deal on street tacos ($1.50 per taco) that's worth the trip alone. Plus, if you're craving seafood, Fish Mart next door is equally delicious.
My favorite is the birria, I think I have about five tacos total and it was only $7.00! Plus, the service is awesome. I'm pretty sure it's family-owned, which is always a good sign with restaurants, and everything's made in the restaurant. If you come in the morning, you can see them preparing everything. Just FYI, a majority of the workers don't speak English, only the kids do, so knowing some Spanish might help. -

Typical Mexican shop, but as their name states their specialty is Tacos - and damn are they good.
I had the asada and adobada tacos and mmmm damn, really good. Their hot sauce was delicious as well - a bit more watery in texture than I'm used to but it was still real good. Some reviews/pictures showed their tacos being $1.50 BUT when I went today it was $1.60 - no complaints, just thought I'd share that information.
I'll definitely be back. -

As much as I love street tacos - this is an A-OK shop. I had their adobada and asada tacos and they were good. However, I think I'd still prefer Tacos El Gordo over this place. Their tacos aren't bad, but they aren't mind blowing either. And for $1.60 a taco? I say you get what you pay for. I'd consider coming here again to get a quick taco fix.

I drive 20 minutes south to eat here. Their tacos are so deliciousooooo. Sometimes I feel like I might get shot walking out of there because it isn't in the best area of San Diego, but these tacos are worth the risk.

I've been here a few times and every single time I go I come out with a satisfied stomach. A friend of ours told us its the closest thing to TJ tacos. Thats the main reason why I went here in the first place.
I have to say you MUST order the adobada tacos. They are the best tacos in there in my opinion. If you don't want meat, buy some potato tacos. They are super super tasty! The potato tacos have a hard shell with mashed potatoes in it and cheese with lettuce.
I tried their California burrito here without pico de gayo and it was pretty good because the fries were crunchy and the meat had flavor to it. The downside was they forgot to put sour cream in it the only time I ordered it and it fell apart because they cut it in half for you. So make sure if you order a burrito ask them to not cut it in half. It's a headache. -

Where else can you get potacos and adobada tacos for 99 cents?
Two thumbs up :) -
Review from Albert W.
On the hunt for authentic tacos, our hero ventured to the dirty south (aka San Ysidro) near the 5 highway for a dose of Tijuana style Mexican food.
As he bit into his adobada taco, its gooey innards smeared our hero's lips and the faint taste of pineapple danced intimately with the tasty meat in his mouth. Delectable, and quite a steal at only 99 cents: the TJ style adobada taco here is probably your best bet at El Guero and wont break the bank for dinner either. The pineapple is an "in the know" addition at no extra charge and really livens up the adobada.
Some of the more exotic tacos were only so-so. Tripitas turned out overly chewy and the lengua was a bit rough and burnt. The carnitas taco was fairly interesting here because it was overly cooked and tasted very much like bacon. In general, most of the meats (with the exception of adobada) here come out somewhat burnt and greasy. The mulitas al pastor came out so ridiculously oily that it was nearly inedible. After sitting on a piece of wax paper for 5 minutes, our hero could barely tell there was paper underneath it because it had turned completely transparent from the grease.
Our hero thought the birria soup bowl was a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, the meat was fairly tender and a lot better than the birria taco. However, the broth is a bit bland and not too flavorful, despite how red and oily it looked.
Complementary grilled green onions and chiles are available at the front counter, which aren't too fresh... but free.
PROS:
- Fairly authentic TJ style tacos.
- Well stocked salsa bar.
CONS:
- Most of the meat is overcooked.
- Super greasy mulitas. -

Having heard rave reviews of Tacos El Guero's tacos from friends, I, along with my girlfriend and my roommates, decided to give it a try.
Being a vegetarian, the only tacos I could have were the tacos de papas (potato tacos). Fortunately, they're only 99 cents each! And let me tell you, they are definitely worth all 99 pennies it takes to pay for each of them. Taco shells filled with mashed potatoes and cheese, all deep fried together. Sounds good right? They are seriously TASTY. They are little pockets of potatoey, cheesy goodness.
Oh, and another thing: their salsa bar is amazing! I'm pretty sure it's the best salsa I've ever tried.
I would drive down from Serra Mesa to San Ysidro just for these potato tacos. And you should drive down from wherever you live to try them!
I took off one star because the restaurant is really cramped for space and kind of uncomfortable. Take the tacos to go! Problem solved! -

This, this is just an orgasm waiting to explode in your mouth. If it was possibly, I am damn sure it would definitely happen.
I am Mexican-American, what can I say? I love tacos, enchiladas, and a good horchata! Finding a parking spot was not had at all, there is an abundance of spots. It is a hole in the wall BUT there always seems to be a table open so you do not have to take your food home, or to the car--in my case.
The menu is simple, its all up there with pictures to visually please you. I usually order the $.99 adobada/potatoe taco. These are delicious, do not let the cost fool you! OR, if I am starving I will order the scrumptious carne asada chips that comes in layers of:
-tortilla chips
-carne asada
-refried beans
-guacomole
-sour cream
-cheese :]
I admit, I can eat this all by myself but just to inform this definitely can feed two.
Now, stop reading this Yelp post and speed over to Tacos El Guero :]
I'll see ya'll there! -

This place is fantastic! I moved to south bay about a year ago, I discovered this place while lost and I am blessed because of it! The tacos are perfect, you feel privileged while you devour them! Try the adobada tacos, they will enrich your life, haha. I also have to mention the delicious salsa, just lovely.

Authentic Tacos as they are literally franchised out of a local Taco Shop from Tijuana, say no more and head on over here with your sombrero and your poncho and try to fit in, after all, if you live in San Diego or within a 100 mile radius of of Mexico, you are in Mexico 2.0.
Seriously, this is as close as you get to eating a real taco. As a matter of fact, people might trip out because real Tacos don't resemble your local restaurant's Ultimate-Supa-Dupa Grande Baja Supreme Chipotle Burrito ( which is just a half-cooked Tortilla with God knows what inside with a name just as weird as how your stomach's gonna feel after you eat it).
The place is not fancy though, if you compliment or associate what you eat with where you eat it, just take it home because you never know if Maria cleaned the Public Restroom. -

When I'm craving tacos, I go to this place. They're delicious and cheap and filling. My favorites are the adobada, carne asada, and potato tacos. They have a pretty good salsa selection as well, and if you eat in, they have free chips to go with the salsa. This place is a bit small, so I always get my orders to go. If you're down in San Ysidro, go ahead and give it a try. It's seriously (and literally) the closest you'll get to legit delicious Mexican food. YUM.

I'm adding this spot to my rotation! TJ style tacos at a very good value. Adobada tacos are only 99Cents, that's right. The concept of the roadside taco stand in TJ is to allow you to grab them frequently, on a daily basis if necessary for dirt cheap. I know here in SD you cant do them for dirt cheap but $1.75 is kinda steep when you want to grub on say 5. Don't get me wrong I'll gladly pay for it but if I can get it for 99cents that's a win-win, or as my bro in law says" a 2 win situation."
The tacos are definitely on par with Tacos El Paisa if not better. Another thing they have going for them is the potato tacos. Any body that was brought-up hood-style will appreciate a good potato taco. It's essentially a fried mashed potato taco with lettuce and some queso cotija also for only 99 cents. They have a variety of freshly made salsas also to enjoy and thee biggest assortment of Mexican Helados that I have ever seen for also 99 cents. Hey they should change their name to the 99 cents store! -

Nothing special here really. The food is decent and the prices are great but seating is limited and the times I've been there, the tables were dirty. I won't be back because of that.

So I am from Tijuana so Mexican food is something that I am pretty familiar with. I can honestly say this is one of the best Mexican Food restaurants that I have ever been too. Its not that pricey for the quality of food they give you. The service is great you get your food within minutes which can be rare with Mexican restaurants. Personally I recommend the California burrito (just had that today!) and the carne asada tacos are incredible!!!!I can continue on like this with different plates I have tried but in stead of me talking and talking just go check it out! you wont be disapointed! guaranteed!

If you miss going to TJ and getting that authentic greasy taco, This is your place and at only 99 cents this beats the line and lack of parking at tacos el gordo! I recommend the adobada there the best!
