Tacos El Asadero!
A taco truck that is a must and not a bust!
This place simply is one of the greater taco trucks out there, they do not disappoint and WILL satisfy your craving for Authentic Mexican food.
If its your first time eating here you may wanna take a baby step and start yourself off with a Carne Asada taco or one of my favorites the beef tongue taco ^__^
When ever I'm in the Rainier Valley area and craving Mexican food this place definitely satisfies that craving.
Oh and the burritos are pretty damn big and will fill you up!
This place is cash only BTW. -
Review from Tan Lo S.
Honestly, I am downgrading them to a 3/5. I think they take FOREVER for foood. I came here again and it took us like 20+ minutes just to get our food. On top of that, we waited like over 15 minutes to order. So no, I don't like the service.
This time, I tried the burrito and ceviche.
Their ceviche is ON POINT! Not as bomb as Mexico, but it was still good. Actually, it wasn't on point because I had to add more salt & lime. I liked it, but adjustments were needed.
I had an al pastor burrito. The meat was good, but it was overall very dry. The rice was good but the beans were definitely dry. I could barely finish it and I was so thirsty afterwards.
I have yet to try a taco, but I can tell by the burrito & torta I had that this place was just A-Ok. I've yet to be impressed. This makes me miss Mexico and how bomb the food was there. I probably won't come here as often as I'd wish, and I'll probably go back to Rancho Bravo. Now they are bomb diggity!
Ps. Cash only & Parking sucks!1 Previous Review: Show all »

This is as good as tacos get in Seattle. I am from Los Angeles and trust me, finding a good taco joint in Seattle is like finding a needle in a hay stack . I had the spicy pork, adobo steak and steak taco. They pork tacos aren't quite as good as the el pastor tacos in LA but it will do. They were all good and authentic. There are actually Mexicans eating here because it ACTUALLY taste good.
The tacos are cheap too! -

This place is cheap. $5 quesadillas and $1.20 tacos. It got busy there when we were there Saturday at around 8pm.

Every EVERY EVERY time I've been here, all 3 criteria have been met. Be sure to ask for their salsa sauce in the squeeze bottle, it goes amazingly well with the tacos. -

This place is absolutely amazing. My aunt was in town and she pulled over and said she NEEDED to try it. She then proceeded to interview all the people inside to ask them if it was good while I checked yelp. There were SO many amazing reviews so I ordered some bean tacos and they were the best ever! I love this place.
Get 2 tacos and a mexican coke. It'll only cost you $4.05. -

I about burnt rubber screeching to a stop on Rainier Avenue when I saw this Taco Truck ( bus ). I knew it had to be good. You'll eat authentic Mexican tacos and other traditional dishes while rubbing elbows with local Mexicans and corporate "suits" and everything in between. Bring your own napkins as they tend to run out and enjoy a Mexican Coke with your tasty Mexican dishes.

While not exactly "clean", this place delivers on the cheap taco-truck taco you seek. Great place to sit outside on a sunny day and enjoy a bottle of Mexican Coke and some carnitas tacos.

Finally some authentic Mexican "antojitos!" And in an old bus?! YEP! =)
So I just relocated to Seattle and had yet to find a GOOD Mexican establishment. This is GOOD food! Eating in an old bus, turned into a mini restaurant, just made my lunch hour a fun experience. Mulitas and tacos are delish and they have Jarritos, Sidral (had to have it) and Coke in a bottle. Oh yes! Definitely a great place for a quick bite either sitting on a stool inside the bus or on the picnic tables outside.
NOTE: This is definitely not a fancy schmancy place, so bring a coat to keep you warm and enjoy your food! ;-) -

There aren't too many taco trucks in Seattle, but if you want to try one, you gotta try this one! I gotta admit that this truck is pretty ghetto looking and it's in the middle of Rainier Ave...but it's amazing!
I love their shredded beef here. I think it's better than their carne asada. I usually order a few tacos and maybe a mulita or two. Their chicken is tasty, too. And you gotta have it with the salsa. The salsa makes the tacos! -

5 stars for a Taco Truck?? HELLS YES!
When you visit this truck make sure you get plenty of the pickled veggies just to the right of where you order. Go ahead, grab a little baggie, and fill er up while you are waiting on your burrito. If you are like me, you will have most of it gone by the time your food comes up.
The Burrito is my Favorite. I think it's only $4.50 and it is pretty big. Definitely not the biggest I have gotten from a taco truck, but for sure the tastiest! I like the Asada Burrito. So much in fact, I have been back twice and I haven't been able to deviate from this delish beast. So yeah, I'm handing out a five star just for the Burrito and Picked veg. I look forward to trying other stuff on the menu... Although an Asada Burrito sounds pretty damn good right now! -

From one Yelp Elite to another...this truck is definitely "THE holy grail of taco buses." ~ Kendrick R.
Hidden gem in the heart of Rainier. It's the closest you'll get to the authentic stuff down in LA. What you see is what you get....simple menu items that pack on a wide array of flavors. Excellent bang for your buck!
Open lot so parking isn't an issue (although they might wanna consider repaving the lot since the pot holes are getting bigger by the day).
Lines are non-existent. Sevice is QUICK. Open till 9pm! Outdoor seating available.
Favorites include: Steak and Spicy Pork tacos, $5 Steak Burrito, and the old school Mexican Coke (w/sugar cane).
QUICK TIP: Cash only -

Quick service, super friendly, fantastic food! A win for everyone! Had carne asada and spicy pork tacos-phenomenal! Had a pollo tamale-a little dry, but I did go in an hour before closing, so likely more fresh earlier in the day. Quaint little bus to sit in-much cleaner than some proper sit down, full service restaurants I've seen! I'll definitely be back--and soon!

Best. Tacos. Ever.
I'm in love. This place has consistently delicious food. And the salsa in the squirt bottles...I could drink it. I usually hate anything spicy, but this stuff is like crack. And I have an addiction.
I always go for the tacos and mulitas. And they are always amazing. Have tried a few other things and been delighted, but keep going back to my trusty faves. Haven't tried the burritos, but they look huge.
When they have the mexican hot chocolate...GET IT. In fact, get two.
And I'm in total agreement with the reviewer below...a trip to Tacos el Asadero shall become my new "boyfriend test." -

I made another trip to the taco bus the other day just for some carnitas tacos. It's a long haul for me, living on Capitol Hill without a car, but it is worth it. They have the best carnitas in Seattle.

I still believe that the best Taco Truck is in Wallingford, but this is a close second. At first I ate burritos with chicken in it which I thought were pretty subpar. But then my friend who'd lived here quite a while told me about this fabulous thing called beef tongue.
While at first hesitant, I must admit that the beef tongue burrito is a winner. The meat is very tender and overall the burrito is okay.
My only complaint is that I feel that they overcompensate for the lack of meat with too much rice and beans. The tacos are also pretty good, but are just a little but under the Wallingford Taco Truck.
The ambiance is what it is. A truck in the middle of a parking lot. I would recommend eating out as when you sit down you usually have throngs of people crowding behind you waiting in line to order. -

This is, in my opinion, the best Mexican available in Seattle; my boyfriend thinks it's the best he's had in the U.S. We'll continue to argue about it, but it the meantime you can just be certain that this tacobus is worth your while. Try the carnitas plate, my favorite dish - a hearty helping of absolutely delicious carnitas meat, tortillas, rice and beans, and lettuce and tomato. Don't forget to load up on tasty salsa.
This place is worth the drive and the comically broken-down, beat-up atmosphere. So, so good. I know great Mexican food, and I can't recommend Tacos El Asadero enough. -

Charlie-Pedia Definition of Taco Truck:
Taco trucks are mobile kitchens(trucks/buses/or trunks of ghetto cars/carts pulled my donkeys) that primarily serve up Mexican food(tacos/burritos/carne asada). They are characteristic of cities in the United States with large Latino populations, mainly the southwest(TEXAS) and especially California. They can be found, most often, in the inner city in other words "Da Ghetto", parked in private parking lots. Lastly taco trucks dispense tasty Mexican's meals for the cheap.
Yes there are taco trucks but it's not often you get to see a taco bus!! The main advantage to a taco bus is that you get seating inside and even a tv that pumps out prime time Univision programming...NICE!! The shrimp tostadas were tasty but the ultimate winner was the bean and cheese burrito!!! Seriously it was da bomb!!! And once they move the bus right outside of my home I will add yet another star. Yay Mexican food!!!!! -

So.. I'd never taco truck'd it up until last night.. I KNOW!??
I cannot believe that I've gone 29.775 (according to http://Threadless.com) years without ever gettin' down with Mobile Mexican Food! Lucky for me, Miss Diana L. & Mini Hero live right nearby.
BF had (and LOVED) his bean burrito- see Charlie-Pedia aka: his review, for the deets. I had the steak tacos and Mulitas. The Mullitas had cheese in them- DOH! I was not aware of this (I ordered via the pretty picture), but nevertheless, I picked away at them.. and they were delicious!
Good, fast service and it was cheap as hell!
I cannot wait to go back! It's good fun, gettin' sloppy with your tacos on a big ol' bus.. ?!
err.. yeah.
I highly recommend the truck. ;) -

3 spicy pork tacos for $3.27 and you can eat them on a bus or you can eat them outside a bus or you can eat them in your car or you eat them in a box or you can eat them with a fox if you like.
Limes, radishes and carrots with jalapenos were readily available for me to add to my taco bus eating experience. Tacos were stuffed full of meat and the onions and cilantro were fresh and plentiful. Together everything was very flavorful but the spicy pork was not really all that spicy, delicious but not spicy, though the salsa was tasty. I got them all over myself so they must be good right? -
Review from Alison V.
Oh taco bus. I drove by you a few times and was scared. You always seemed to be open, but you never seemed that busy. You're really on a bus. How good could you actually be?
One day I ventured with a friend through your doors. I was skeptical of the scrunched seating. Would you just drive away with me on the bus? Did you even have a kitchen big enough to turn out good food?
I didn't want to be too adventurous so I stuck to your carne asada tacos. They were small and came with two tortillas. Just the way I like them. There was meat, some sauce, and a bit of cilantro. No fancy stuff. Just the way they should be. I took those tacos home and ate them. My taste buds were so happy.
A week later I was craving Mexican food again. No longer did I have to feel disappointed at the thought of another crappy Mexican food place in Seattle again. I knew where you were. I knew you'd be open and waiting for me. So I showed up. I tried your quesadilla. It was greasy and came with lettuce in it. It was good, but nothing compared to your tacos. I prefer the carne asada, but your pollo is good too!
Oh taco bus, I love you, but I curse you. I cannot stay away. Your cash only policy makes me hunt for ATMs some nights. And the day I show up with a craving and you're closed, I know my heart will break.Listed in: Places I'll Never Get Tired Of, The Way to My Heart

* A new twist on the standard taco truck *
OK, I've complained in the past that I wish we had taco trucks in Vancouver. Scratch that. I have a new desire. I want a taco bus!
This is an old converted school bus. The front half is a full-on taco truck kitchen. The back half is diner style counter seating - including a TV playing telenovelas!
Very cool concept.
The birria (lamb) taco was wonderful. The meat was so tender, well spiced, and balanced nicely with the heat of the salsa. They offer a selection of additional toppings to help yourself to like Mexican pickles, radish, and of course lime to squeeze. Delicious!
The lengua (tongue) taco was also very good. The meat was nice and tender as well. It could have used a little more seasoning, but the salsa more than made up for it.
My only complaint is that the tortillas are not made fresh - but they were heated up on the griddle and worked pretty well.
What a great concept! Now just drive it across the border to Vancouver please!Listed in: South of the Border

"Hey Will, so... have you been to the Taco Bus yet?"
I have heard this now no less than twenty times. Mostly from Naurry. The first 8 times or so the answer was no. The next 6 were yes, but he forgot because he was drinking. And after that it was all fun and games.
Kind of like eating here. Ok, not really fun and games. Unless you count eating tacos in a bus fun and games.
I haven't decided. What I have decided is that this is a pretty killer place to grab lunch. For a few bucks you can get a carnitas taco or three, with pico de gallo, and pile on radishes and jalapeños to your heart's content. Get here right before 12 or after 2, because there is a lunch rush that results in a line and a wait.
So glad this place is right in my back yard. Ok, not literally, that would make me a very tubby guy.Listed in: Columbia City

This is DEFINITELY the coolest bus I'VE ever been on. Well, there was this one interesting Greyhound experience...no, this one is still better.
Yes, it was a bit of a drive to get to this place. Yes, it's in the ghetto (don't tell me it's not - there was an abandoned couch with graffiti on it in the same lot). Yes, it was freezing cold inside. Yes, it was kinda scummy and had weird Mexican advertisements all over. BUT, that doesn't matter. Because you know what? The food was good and cheap. To me, nothing beats authentic Mexican food and this place is DEFINITELY authentic - their Coke (uh, Coca-Cola) even comes FROM Mexico!
Sure, it's nothing fancy, but it beats the hell out of the Bell! -
Review from Kate M.
Seattle, WA
If I could give this place six stars I would. There are a handful of decent Mexican resaurants in the immediate Seattle area, and with the exception of La Carta de Oaxaca (which is all the way out in Ballard), this little bus puts them all to shame.
Holy crap, the food here is good. I used to have a roommate a couple of years back who sang this place's praises on a weekly basis. This SoCal native, hispanic man's man knew his shit in the arena of Mexican food. I would always somehow miss the occasional opportunity to ride out there with him and he'd come home, every time, all happy and sleepy-eyed and just begging to be kicked in the stomach. So when I moved out to Columbia City, I knew my day had finally come.
What a day it was!! I took one bite of my chicken taco and kind of lost my mind. When I woke up, two tacos later, I was ready to hop in the car and go get some more. Can't say I generally feel that way about Mexican food. I like it, but, dude.
Every day, on my way to work, I look wistfully out the city bus window, drooling on myself, wishing I were on that bus instead..... -

After driving past the bus for a couple few years now and wanting to stop and try, I made a diliberate trip out today. I have to say that I just got tacos, will have to go back and give the mulitas and sopitos a try, maybe that will inspire me to change my rating.
I was happy with my food for sure - nothing to complain about and the price was right. The reason for four stars when all of yelp is raining down the Milky Way on this place? I waited 25 minutes for three tacos. Yeah, lunch on a sunny day can be a bit of a challenge here. I wound up behind several humungo orders and baked in the sun while I waited. I have never actually experienced a wait with mobile Mexican dining - so I was a little peeved.
There has to be a better system and when they find it I will be happy to bestow the 5th, and clearly most deserved star. Maybe I will cruise by on my way home and get a Mulita...and maybe a torta, and a little pozole...and for sure a Jarritos....Listed in: Are you a MexiCAN or a…

Review from Sara E.
Seattle, WA
This is the famous "Taco Bus", a vintage bus painted white and parked in a lot on Rainier Avenue, in between the Mycon's used car lots and housing for seniors. Taco trucks are tucked all over the city and are the home of some of the best, most authentic, and dirt-cheap Mexican food around. Don't be scared; these taco trucks are health-inspected just like restaurants, and Tacos el Asadero gets great health scores.
The inside of the bus has been redone with little metal counters and cute green barstools running along the windows. A garbage can for your paper plates sits in the drivers' seat, looking like a beat-up R2D2 behind the wheel. The kitchen is tucked away in back; you order from a small window surrounded with busy, cheerful menus (complete with pictures for the Spanish impaired!). Watch the owner grill your carnitas or pastor right in front of you on the tiny grill; the tacos are delicious (I like mine with an extra squeeze of fresh lime) and the mulitas are great (kind of like a taco, with avocado and a little bit of cheese).
An awning projecting from the bus shelters a big picnic table if you find the barstools too snug or if the sunshine is too tempting. The food is great, the bus is adorable and for some reason brings me right back to childhood (it's kind of like hanging out in a playhouse). Plus, there's a rooster that lives in the parking lot! -

Review from John B.
Somehow I heard about this place through a taco truck website. The fact that taco trucks actually existed in Seattle was a shock to this SoCal native. I spent the last year living in LA, and while living there got the opportunity to try a number of taco trucks. If Asadero was located in LA, I might give it 3 or 3.5 stars, but it gets 5 stars because somehow, 1500 miles away from Mexico, these guys have somehow managed to pull off a near miracle - AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD IN SEATTLE. I cannot believe it.
I drove out to this place fully expecting to be let down, and that was not the case at all. It's this dirty little shithole of a bus, and I went at lunch when it was about 90 degrees outside and probably 110 inside the bus. Hispanic painters were sitting at the table outside, and dirty Seattle punk rockers were ordering food inside - a positive sign.
I walked up to the counter and told the lady, "dos tacos de carne asada, un taco de pollo, y un mulita de carnitas por favor." I stood in the corner while the punk rockers were talking about bong hits and cocaine, and decided that the shade of the table looked preferable to the 110 degree head inside the bus. I grabbed a cupful of limes, spicy carrots, and beats, and headed outside.
My order came out pretty quickly, and I tried the carne asada taco first. Good amount of onions and cilantro, a bit on the greasy side but not too bad, good flavor, and the salsa was tasty as well. I tried the taco de pollo next, and it wasn't something I'd get again. Much too greasy, and the chicken wasn't that tasty. I didn't really care though, because I usually think the pollo asado at mexican places is rather sketchy. I had the carnitas mulita last, and it was the best of everything I ordered. The carnitas wasn't too greasy and was tasty, good amount of cheese melted just right, good amount of avocado, onions etc., and the tortilla was nice and slightly crispy, but not too much.
Overall, this place is really solid. I'm sure this place violates every health code in the book (and what I experience tomorrow morning may not be so solid) - but who the hell cares? It's damn tasty. After tax my 3 tacos and mulita came to $4.80 and was very filling. This place will satisfy any Mexican food-deprived SoCal transplants living in the Seattle area.Listed in: Viva el Sabor! Review from Quani C.
I was having a particularly lonely day in Seattle, when my friend called me up to do some running around (hooray for Target!). After the Target jaunt, he suggested, as he's forwarded these reviews to me before, that we check out the taco bus.
Keeping our eyes peeled driving down Rainier, I can see how it would've been easy to miss...but we didn't. We pulled right in and sauntered up to the bus. It was sort of busy when we got there, but got busier afterwards so the inside of the bus was pretty crowded and kinda warm...you know, since they do all the cooking in there. I had a chicken taco and a beef taco. Vaguely reminded me of one of my favorite taquerias at home with the seasonings and the freshly squeezed lime. My friend opted to try the beef cheek taco and some fallback tacos. He said he probably wouldn't order the beef cheek again, but just had to try it. I don't think he was disappointed, either.
Abridged version, it's dirt cheap, the food is tasty (I'm going to have to try quesadillas or something else next time), the atmosphere is interesting...but in a good way.
Taco Bus = The cure for my loneliness. -
Review from Joel H.

I never believed that you could get a great Mexican meal eating on a bus. My old manager used to go nuts about Tacos El Asadero (or just "the taco bus" as we used to call it, as if there was only one) and that we had to go there. Unconvinced, we tagged along, ordered correctly and sat down to the most delicious meals of our lives. Who could imagine such delight coming from food cooked on a bus? Cheap as chips, tasty and well-portioned. The carne asada which became my fast favourite can be a little salty at times, but it's very tasty and the flank steak is cooked to perfection. With some flour tortillas and salsa picante, some salad and Mexican Fanta, a lunchtime dream.
Their tacos (which are cheap too) are excellent, and their burritos never fail to satisfy.
It's clean, and the service is friendly. They even smile when you mangle Spanish. Head down and give it a try! -

I agree the reviewer that said it is "THE holy grail of taco buses"
Who knew that holy grail and taco bus could be used in the same sentence? But they can, and it's true.
I suggest the cabeza and the lengua and prefer both to the asada. Watch for with the big potholes in the parking lot and a right turn out of the parking lot when leaving is recommended. -

Instructions for getting tacos at the taco bus:
1. Get on the bus, assess who is waiting for food and who is waiting to order. It is likely that you will be ordering soon, so have an order ready.
2. Order food, speak in spanish. If you know even just a little spanish, now is the appropriate time to bring it out. "uno order de asada, y tres tacos de puerco" will do fine. If you dont understand spanish numbers you can look at the numbers on the register.
3. Pay for your food and tip generously. wait for your tacos.
you'll want to order mulitas, which is like a cheesy taco sandwich with two tortillas used like slices of bread. also has a slice of avocado if you arent too late in the day when they've run out. 2 of these is a great snack, 5 is a hungry man's lunch. "tres mulitas de puerco y dos de pollo por favor" -
