Burnaby, BC
Those who know me know that I live for a good fish taco. If its on the menu, you can guarantee that I'm going to order it. My very first fish taco was actually in Tofino (at Sobo), and I have such fond memories of it. There will always be a special place in my heart for Sobo, but I have to say that Tacofino's fish taco is one of my all time faves.
The tempura batter is light and crispy, and the ling cod is fresh, immaculately white and cooked perfectly. I'm a firm believer that a fish taco should be served with cabbage (not lettuce), and the chipotle mayo is delish. The pico de gallo is fresh and tasty, but you definitely need a few dashes of hot sauce to achieve perfection. (To top it off they have my very fave hot sauce, Valentina).
Some other Yelpers think the prices are too high, but personally, I'm happy to pay $9 for lunch (2 tacos), since I've definitely paid much more in higher end restaurants for fish tacos which were a disappointment and couldn't even compare to Tacofino.
I'm also pretty happy that Tacofino heard my prayers and their blue truck was stationed on Burrard throughout the winter. I'm not sure I would've survived it if they hadn't! In the summer I eat here two, and sometimes more, times a week. I've tried some of their other menu items, which I've enjoyed, but its the fish taco that keeps me coming back time and again.
Thank you Tacofino. You complete me. -

I regret skipping past Mom's Grilled Cheese truck and landing on TacoFino.
Their portions were really small and there was nothing too special about their Black bean gringa. Guacamole is an unreasonable amount more considering how small the portions are.
All in all it was good, but small and a little lack luster in a city FULL of fabulous food trucks! -

was ALMOST a perfect experience.
i ordered two fish tacos. the fish were cooked PERFECTLy. AMAZING batter. salsa however extremely cold which made the taco have two extremely different temperatures which made it odd.
burrito was ok, wouldn't return for that.
tried the diablo cookie, not my type of thing. however i think they achieved their goal of a spicy/savoury/sweet cookie very well, if that is what you are in to.
overall, would definitely return for their tacos, hopefully the salsa won't be so refrigerated next time. -

Wow, that's a tasty fish taco!
Tempura battered ling cod, very nicely cooked and gave the taco a beautiful crispy texture. Fresh shredded cabbage slaw, pico, chipotle mayo, and a little piece of lime in a flour tortilla for $4.50 each.
I gotta say, it is pretty good, but it's not something I'll venture out to buy over and over again. Why? Mainly the pricing for me. I'll need to buy 2 of these to fill me up (maybe 3) considering that it's roughly about 2oz piece of fish in a 6' tortilla.
I'm all for these street meat trends, but the prices has got to go!Listed in: Street Meat

TacoFino really rates a 4/5 for me due to taste, price and service.
I ordered the fish taco and it was delicious. The light and crunchy tempera batter really provided a nice flavor and texture to the taco. The cabbage and salsa was a little tangy, -the way I like it.
They lost marks because I find $4.50 is a little high for a small taco and the guy wasn't very friendly. He didn't even smile.. come on.. crack a smile? A tiny one? No? OK... -
Review from Lachlan B.
Halifax, NS
I've been to TacoFino three times and had the same fish burrito each time. Things started out great but have been going downhill.
First visit: I took a visiting teenage family member from Halifax here. It was her first time trying fish tacos and she loved them. My burrito was great. The perfect end to a great morning visit to the Aquarium. The fish wash crispy, there was a good ratio of rice to beans to cabbage to sauces.
Second visit: 20 minute wait on a sunny day. Yeah, I know they're popular, so I don't mind waiting, but it would be good if the staff running this ship were polite. They were certainly nice to the man in front of me in line who seemed to be a friend. For everyone else, nary a please, thank you, smile or "thanks for waiting". The burrito seemed a bit smaller this time and some bites were mostly beans.
Third visit: indifferent, impolite interactions. Again, I understand that they are popular and busy, but it doesn't take much to give the impression you care about your customers are are not just out to make 10 bucks a pop. All that could be forgiven if the food was outstanding but today the fish tasted off.
I would give them four stars for the first visit, three for the second. The two stars are for the third visit. I'm going to take a break and explore other food truck options. -

I was fortunate enough to hit up the Tacofino truck when there was no lineup, so I was able to order and get my food in about 10 minutes or so.
My friend and I both ordered the fish taco. The fish was lightly battered and not overwhelmingly greasy, which was great. The fresh salsa on top added some great flavour, but I think the best part was the chipotle mayo, although I didn't think there was enough on my taco. The taco tastes even better if you drizzle some spicy sauce on top of everything to give it a little extra kick.
The lime they give you is in fact, pretty pathetic: it wasn't even half of a lime wedge. But overall, I quite enjoyed my experience with Tacofino. -
Review from Marc D.

* Two tacos for $10, and you can't even give a full lime wedge?!?!?! *
This truck (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) has been getting a lot of positive reviews, so I had to check it out myself.
My impressions?
1) Severely overpriced. $5.50 for a flank steak taco, and $4.50 for a fish taco. That is just too high for a taco. Sorry. I'm perfectly willing to pay for good food. And if this taco really blew me away, perhaps I'd be okay with the pricing. But read on.....
2) The lingcod taco was very good. The fish was very light, with a good crust and was perfectly cooked on the inside. The fish was excellent. The flour tortilla (store bought quality unfortunately) had been grilled nicely at least, but I would prefer a more freshmade taste. The slaw and pico were very fresh. The minuscule slice of lime was kind of annoying though. It wasn't large enough to squeeze, but had the rind so you couldn't just eat it. Kind of silly. So overall the fish was excellent, the toppings fresh, the tortilla was ok, and it was tasty overall for a West Coast style fish taco. Is it worth $4.50 per taco? I'm not sure. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
3) The flank steak taco was more disappointing. It was served with the same toppings as the fish taco, with the addition of guacamole and a little corn. It had that same stupid little piece of lime too. Unfortunately the flank steak was just not a high quality ingredient. It was tough, underseasoned, and not something I would order again. Particularly when you consider the $5.50 per taco price, which is absurd unless the quality was much higher. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
You can see a close-up of the toppings, and see they are fresh, and that ridiculously small piece of lime that is impossible to use. But keep in mind that little plate with a single fish taco and a single flank steak taco cost $10! I imagine with a full chunk of lime it would be at least $12! Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
Overall the fish was very good, the rest I'm not so much a fan of. I think the $9.50 for a plate of four tacos (photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) at a nice comfortable sitdown Don Guacamole's, along with as many lime wedges as you'd like is a much better deal both quality and price wise! -

The simplest things are the hardest. Like trying to remember the name of people you meet, then waiting too long to ask their name again so you end up just saying 'Hey..' every time. Frying fish well is also one of those things.
You have fish, batter, and oil. Simple, yet so many go wrong. Some people think battering a beautiful fresh fish like a giant doughnut is the best way. Maybe if you're 65 and no taste buds left. Some people have no issue with serving fish as oily as KFC. And some people (not many) know the only way: light, golden, crispy batter, NOT oily whatsoever and using the freshest fish possible. TacoFino knows their sh*t.
This was my very 1st Vancouver food cart experience and I'll be back for more. My only mistake was not listening to my stomach. I should've had at least 2, if not 3. Because these are the best fish tacos I've ever had.
By the way, the staff are also good are remembering your name ;)Listed in: Carts with Food

The best Fish taco ive ever had!!!
Yet another food truck that rocked my fricken world!! luckily i came here when it wasn't too busy.. i ordered the famous fish taco.. battered fish with chipotle mayo, and their salsa! damn!! guys! seriously Light crispy batter. flavorful, the mayo was out of this world! and not it wasnt JUST chipotle in that sauce! there had to be something else, something with a kick. The salsa added a nice crunch and more kick!

TACOOOOOOOOOOFIIIIINOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I'm sure we can all agree that Vancouver City Council has come up with some dubious ideas: bike lanes (a traffic nightmare), backyard chickens (um, ok...), and laneway housing (which is great, if you have the ~$250,000.00 to build one).
They did, however, get one thing right: food carts!
I first heard of TacoFino when I went to Tofino with friends back in March. Unfortunately, they were not open at that time.
Thankfully, they're now open in Vancouver. I tried it today and am happy to report that it was worth the wait.
I had the fish taco and a chocolate cookie. The ling cod tempura in the fish taco was tasty: light, crispy, and not too greasy. The cabbage and salsa were incredibly fresh. Normally I don't like cilantro, but it was pleasant in the salsa as it wasn't too overpowering. I enjoyed the cookie as well, it was chewy and the combination of the fudgy flavour, milk chocolate pieces, chili, and salt added a interesting twist.
I know I'll be back to try more of the menu. Hopefully sooner rather than later.Listed in: Vancouver Street Eats, Feel Good Food (aka Emotional…

One of the yummiest fish taco's I've ever had. Light and crispy breaded fish on a nice flour tortilla (I normally prefer corn, but this one was done up right!) The salsa had a nice flavour and everything was just perfect in my mouth. Topped up with some hot sauce & YOWZA you have yourself a tacosplosion!
The diablo cookie was shared between a few of us and oh my gosh, the spice and the chocolate went so well together.
One qualm: the price. It could be a dollar cheaper? But alas, that is the price you pay for eating out.
I make a lot of fish and other types of taco's at home, so I'm really picky. And when someone says OMG BEST FISH TACO they are usually wrong. But here it was so right. -
Review from Sam L.
Tacofino you are never ever allowed to go back to Tofino. I need you to supply me with your fish tacos. Every. Single. Day.
The fish taco possesses the lightest, crispiest batter I've ever encountered and the fish was flavourful without being fishy. The shredded pork gringas were equally as delicious with the succulent, flavourful pork and loads of cheese and fresh salsa.
Great value too - the fish taco and pork gringa plus a bottle of Jarrito Mexican soda cost me $10.50, and I was pleasantly full afterwards. I paid almost the same amount at another food cart for a similar menu item, and only got one taco, and no drink. Plus Tacofino's was better in my opinion.
If you're worried about the fry-ed-ness of the regular fish taco, try the tuna ta-taco, it's a huge chunk of lightly seared albacore tuna, with many of the same toppings and with the addition of a seaweed salad. It's awesome too! -

I heard about Tacofino from a coworker, who also mentioned the rave Yelp reviews. Today, I finally checked it out.
I went shortly after one and had about a ten minute wait from arrival to walking away with my food. They were out of tuna and pork when I arrived, which wasn't a big deal since I was interested in the beef. A beef taco and a diablo cookie ran me $8. I've heard that they do deals for two tacos, but it wasn't written on their menu, so I don't know if those were promotions or constant offerings.
The cookie was large and very unique: sugar, salt, chocolate, ginger, and slow creeping chili. Size and taste wise, it's on par with the $2 giant cookies from neighbourhood cafes, and they charge you an extra $0.50 for their specialty. It's a nice indulgence, but I don't think I would go specifically for it.
$5.50 for the steak taco was too expensive for what I got. It's too small for $5.50; if they had an option of two steak tacos for $7.50, I'd be very happy with the value. They listed mango salsa and shredded cabbage as part of the ingredients, which made me nervous, but I decided to be a little adventerous. The steak strips were lightly seasoned, the mango salsa was tasty, the shredded cabbage added a nice texture, the guacamole was made well, and the cheese was lost in all the other flavours.
My first bite was great. While I was enjoying all the flavours, my left hand holding the back of the taco became soaked from whatever juices were floating on top of the tortilla. It was an unpleasant surprise and was consistently messy to eat , but still quite tasty.
I will go back to try the other offerings and hopefully there will be some clarity on better value tacos when getting two at a time. -

Wow.
Pretty amazing fish tacos! One bite into it and I was in love. The lightly battered ling cod was just perfectly cooked, soft and fresh. Chipotle mayo and the salsa fresca added the right amount of flavour, and the cabbage added texture.
I savoured every single bite and wanted more....Listed in: Food Carting.

Looks like all the publicity might be going to their heads. Lines are longer this time. (40 minutes+?) bean tacos were just "meh." Actually, they were a bit runny, and if eaten properly we would have needed a spoon.
Nothing had guac. on it this time. This was part of the draw to begin with. I can't believe that they decided to take this out! Wt? The fish was still good, however, but when fried that's not the most difficult thing.
And for two people it cost almost $30. Seems like the prices went up, too! :( To think I just saw trucks in NY that said, "two tacos for $3." and they weren't sketchy, either.
Sad that this is the best that Vancouver has to offer, so of course I'll return when craving Mexican.1 Previous Review: Show all »

More or less stumbled onto this operation today since I'm not usually in the area around lunch.
The fabled lineup had yet to form so I grabbed two fish tacos and was quite satisfied with the food.
I've lived in Mexico so know the fish @ TacoFino has the proper crunch- other ingredients can be a bit different but it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that crunch.
People expecting Burrito sized portions are going to be disappointed though-that's not what a Taco is.
As to the price Yes it's a bit high but that's Vancouver everything is overpriced here.
I'd certainly stop by again if I was in the hood and there was no lineup but there's too much choice in this town to wait around/ stand on the concrete to eat this food. -
Review from Chris C.
While this place is no Kogi BBQ, it is probably the best food truck I've tried to date in Vancouver.
I had a the chicken burrito and it was quite sizable, enough to fill me up for lunch. I will be back next time for the fish tacos. -

I love TacoFino! My favourite is their fish taco. I tried their tuna ta-taco too, but it's not really up my alley. My boyfriend loved it though. Their fish taco is the best fish taco I've ever tasted. Personally, the price is a bit steep at $4.50 each, but whatever, I'm down to pay the price for them! I also LOVED their freshie drink. It's basically blended ice, mint leaves, and lime juice; so incredibly tasty and refreshing.
Now as far as the blue burrito truck is concerned (they also serve tacos - only fish tacos though) I wasn't a huge fan. I tried it out today and my boyfriend and I split the pork burrito. We were hungry yet we didn't even finish it because we decided we didn't like it. It was a bit dry and just didn't taste like a burrito. I wouldn't recommend getting it. The fish tacos are a million times better.
Pros: FISH TACOS, friendly staff, easy to find cart, and easily accessible updated information and location on Facebook and Twitter
Cons: cash only, the pork burrito, the prices, always-changing location, and given that they're located in downtown Vancouver it's obvious that parking is a bitch
Verdict: I'll definitely be back! But only for the fish tacos. And freshies. -
Review from Chris M.
Since my return to Vancouver, food trucks have exploded in popularity. We no longer live in a city where Japadog is the most-talked-about street food ever (though it deserves serious praise!) - now there's all these up and comers working to ply their trade in the downtown core. Tacofino counts itself among these, and I'm going to have to give it some praise as well.
Though the crowd in front can make for a lengthy wait (luckily, I showed up just in advance of a pretty crushing lunch rush), the ordering process is easy. You can get fish tacos as well as burritos with chicken, pork, cod, vegetarian and even vegan filling options. I opted for the latter (a better choice for those with big appetites - the tacos are pretty small for the price!), which comes with rice, salsa, cabbage, refried black beans, chipotle mayo and sour cream. Guacamole apparently only comes on the vegan option, which is a real heartbreaker, but in the long run...
The soft tortilla, spicy saucy beans and crunchy fried cod made for a positively delicious combination! I mean it, folks. I had to stop myself from positively inhaling this burrito. Am I hugely in the wrong for opting for it over the namesake fish taco? Well... if so, I don't want to be right.
And another thing... if you're feeling decadent or have room left over, the Diablo cookies are pretty unreal. Soft dark chocolate with a noticeable hit of spice, saltiness and bits of crisp toffee.
Like others, I'm not exactly sold on the pricing, but I suppose if it's downtown and it's better than Subway or McD, food is going to be a little more expensive. The evident popularity of this place has made it a bit impractical to just run over and grab a bite, which is something I usually associate with the appeal of street food, but it's certainly tasty. -

LOVE TacoFino! First discovered them on vacation in Tofino and so glad they've brought a truck to the lower mainland. The menu doesn't seem as large as the one in Tofino, but it has all the basics.
The fish tacos are my fave and I don't even really like seafood. With big chunks of freshly fried fish, the tacos are then topped with chipotle mayo and fresh salsa. Divine.
If you want something sweet, try the spicy Diablo ice cream sandwich ;-) -

Tofino, BC
coming to vancouver from tofino for a visit, i was especially excited to try vancouver's version of tacofino.
was i ever disappointed! and honestly,a little disgusted. i don't know if it was because my expectations are high having dealt with the wonderful service and food in tofino, but it was bad. i understand that they can run out of things, but i tried to order a freshie and the girl working the till said they weren't making them because they were 'too busy'. ok, then why is it on the menu? can't you put a piece of paper or something up on the menu saying this? there should be a better system in place when they do run out, rather than having people trying to order things and having to repeat 'we don't have ____' 10 times or more.
i ended up ordering a black bean gringa, and a fish taco. when i got my gringa, it came with just the beans. that was definitely not what i ordered. i took it back to be corrected, even after that it was a letdown. too much bean and other toppings. they even have to provide two tortilla shells for one gringa, which i guess indicates how messy it gets. the fish taco was a delight though, the only highlight of this visit. it was something i'd never tried before but it exceeded my expectations. very good.
another thing i noticed sitting nearby, was the staff was eating the product while standing in the actual kitchen. both the girl working the till and one of the others working the line were doing this. i don't know if its just me but that seems it would be bordering on a food safe violation. i don't want to see food dropping out of your mouth onto god only knows what (like a prep area perhaps) while im trying to eat what i just ordered. i know they are probably starving working around that food all day but it was pretty disgusting to see. -

All I can say is yum! These are the BEST tacos I've had in Vancouver. I will go into mourning when they leave. They're not all "authentic," but they are delicious! Definitely worth a trip downtown.
The fish tacos are my favorites - ask them to go easy on the chipotle mayo if it's a topping. Friends rave about the pulled pork as well. -

Simply the best authentic fish tacos I've had in Vancouver.
I lived in Baja Mexico briefly and one of my favorite things to do was take a trip to the roadside fish taco stand for lunch (side note: someone needs to make Baja style hot dogs here, simply amazing). These tacos are the only ones close to the real flavour of Mexico. They are very authentic not like others 'Baja style' (I'm looking at you Chronic Tacos).
They are deep fried in true Mexican style, with lots of tangy salsa, shredded cabbage and some type of mayo on top (actually better than the crema in Mexico).
There is a generous portion of fresh fish which is cooked perfectly with crispy batter and tender inside. It would be nice if they had some pickled onions and guac on it but it's still very good.
Only complaint is the price, $4.50 for a single taco. They are large tacos but it's a bit overpriced for a food cart. And they could offer a deal for multiple tacos ie 2 for $7, 3 for $9. Anyways, I will still be back despite the price, still a lot cheaper than a flight to Mexico... -

I couldn't agree with Fritz more. That was absolutely the best fish taco I've ever had in my life. Fantastic. Flavourful, Not goopy, but perfectly balanced, crispy and fresh. I ate two, but could have eaten at least twice that if I wanted to really stuff myself. So delicious. Really. I want to try everything on their menu.

If you want a better Vancouver food cart experience, then go to any of the other carts in the area. These guys are a rip-off. Also, expect to wait 30 minutes for your order (after you've already waited to order, and after you've paid) while they fulfill a large take-out order for a nearby office (or other large group).
You know you live in a Mexican-food-deprived city when you're willing to pay $4.50 to $6.50 for a single taco. In other cities it's not hard to find hand-made, fresh, locally-sourced tacos in the $2 range that are just as good or better than the ones here. A single taco just isn't going to cut it; so, really, you're going to spend at least $11-$13 just to get started. For a reasonable lunch with a drink, you're looking at $20. For that, I'd rather go to a sit-down cafe and be treated properly. Comparable Vancouver street carts, in terms of quantity and quality, are in the $7-$9 range.
If you have lots of cash, and lots of time to wait, this is decent food. But, if you're on a lunch break in the middle of your work day, or if you appreciate anything close to "reasonable" in terms of value, then forget it. When it comes to Vancouver street cart food, there are plenty of fish in the sea. These guys just don't cut it. -

I had my first Tacofino in Tofino 3 days ago and it blew my mind! So when I got back into town I hunted down the truck the first chance I got. I was a bit disappointed that the menu selection was quite limited. I really wanted tacos - specifically the Tuna Ta Taco but it was not on the menu. They were also not serving any chicken. I settled for two fish tacos with the battered ling cod and it was super tasty! The other downfall was that even though I eventually did find the truck it took me a good 20 minutes. They weren't in the spot the Eat Street App said they would be and their twitter stream or website offered no recent clues to their whereabouts. I took a lucky guess that they'd be near their last stated location on twitter from 5 days ago and finally found them. All in all, amazing fish tacos but the selection could be better. If you get a chance to try the original when you're in Tofino don't pass it up!

Woohoo! Excited to be the first to review Vancouver's newest and most highly anticipated food truck. Originally started in Tofino on the westcoast of Vancouver Island, TacoFino has hit the streets of Vancouver in fine style. Offering excellent California Baja-style Mexican inspired street food, the TacoFino menu includes awesome shredded pork Gringas (similar to a meat & cheese quesadilla), super tasty iced-mint freshies (BYO-Tequila) & massive homemade chocolate 'Diablo' ice cream sandwiches for dessert. But the real specialty at TacoFino are the truly incredible Fish Tacos. Big & juicy salsa filled tortillas with several perfectly sized pieces of lightly fried fresh fish that literally melts in your mouth. So good! For those not interested in batter fried fish, TacoFino offers a Tuna Ta-Taco option and for vegetarians both the Tacos and Gringas are available as black-bean beauties. Now, the only thing left for the super friendly & awesome people of the TacoFino truck to bring to Vancouver are their crazy, out-of-this-world Fish Burritos that I tried the last time I visited their amazing little taco truck cafe in Tofino. That may be the secret weapon TacoFino is keeping under tight wraps as it looks like the FoodTruck wars in downtown Vancouver are really starting to heat up!
