The largest Asian supermarket chain in Canada...this Chinatown location is certainly impressive. It's clean (almost too clean) and huge. It doesn't smell like an Asian supermarket and they had tons of free samples.

The bakery section impressed me the most, with lots of baked buns, bread (the bread said it was made in Japanese manner for softness), cakes, custard tarts, sticky rice. There's a deli with fancy steamed buns and Chinese BBQ. The cold appetizer bar looked great with prawns, mussels, etc. The refrigerated case had sushi, Asian salads, spring rolls, etc.

The selection of Asian food included items I hadn't seen before, including sticky rice popsicles from Thailand, yogurt soda popsicles, etc. They were promoting the Taiwan Food Festival and I found all sorts of Taiwanese treats.

They have plastic red shopping baskets that people drag along the floor by a long handle (first time I've seen that).

I regularly go to this T & T shop.  It is unfortunate that I have to pay $1.20 each time for the underground parking and then get reimbursed $1.00 only.  Parking underground can be annoying since there are limited spaces.

I like the selection of Asian products.  I like the hot pot section which has all that I need for a good hot pot.

I had just the best time shopping at T & T today. With Lunar New Year jiggles playing in the background, as I ambled down the aisles, I thoroughly soaked in the festive atmosphere, pulling my red shopping cart behind me, sampling half a dozen different types of food, and finally loading up on my Asian favorites: Thai green curry paste and coconut milk, Chinese leafy greens, Indo-mie and spinach noodles and Taiwanese tang-yuen (food demonstration works!)

Since this T & T is located fairly close to downtown right next to Stadium-Chinatown skytrain station, it makes shopping here doable on a regular basis for downtowners like me. And without actually having to venture into Chinatown, there's BBQ roast meats sold right at the hot food deli to satiate my Chinese food cravings. The roast duck wasn't the best, a little dry and on the salty side, but i ate it all anyway.

When on sale, the items are a steal. Otherwise, i steer away from it.  There are weekly deals you can check online at their website; Monday-Thursday, and the Weekend deals (Friday-Sunday).
It offers most ingredients to Asian cuisines, and carries Japanese, Korean, Chinese cosmetics. They have a small sit-in area for those who buy food and want to eat there.

If you're a picky eater like me, I'd avoid buying the cooked Chinese hot foods.  The steamed buns didn't taste good (save for the veggie one shaped like a leaf), and trust me, I've tried them all.  I don't know how you could mess up the taste of the standard bbq duck, but it happened.  I was in charge of dinner one night and waited too long to buy some bbq duck for the family at the usual place we buy it at in Chinatown.  So I resorted to T&T bbq duck.  There was no meat, tasted funny, and it was swimming in a LOT of oil.

Lesson learned: when choosing between cooked foods at T&T and cooking at home, choose the latter.  Your stomach will thank you.

T&T has been my choice of Asian shopping for over a decade now.

This location is not the largest, but it has whatever you need. Instant noodles, sauces, meat, life seafood, snacks, frozen dumplings etc.  It even has a mini bakery that cranks out excellent cakes.

Parking is ample downstairs, though the huge population of Asian drivers also means there are also marks on all of the concrete pillars.  ICBC must be having a field day here.

Their hot food selection is decent, though you can actually get cheaper dimsum at restaurants elsewhere.  But their deli section is always good, with tasty delicacies such as snails.

On Sundays, you can also get some decent samples.  However, this is no lunch substitute.

The prices are ooookay. On average, they're definitely cheaper than regular supermarkets in the veggie and Asian food categories. The meats and seafood are usually cheap as well (though sometimes they look a bit suspect). I know there are a lot of stores in Chitown have greeeeat prices, but I find their produce doesn't.. really last. Like, more than a day.

The location is great. Right off the stadium sky train or by the 19 / 22 / 4/ 7 routes (and the C23). Or if you're driving, there's parking and validation.

It's my fault I'm too lazy to wander further into Chitown, so T&T will suffice for all my Chinese-y needs. Since it's now owned by Loblaws, I've been finding the quality to be a bit better, but I've also noticed their usual sale prices have gone up a bit.

The place is always busy on weekends with people elbowing around for samples. Best to go there on a weekday :)

Your source for all things Asian.

Tip 1: park at Tinseltown and walk across the street. It's free and they never check how long you parked there.

I come here primarily for the live seafood, fruits and produce, and the array of pastries and treats.

Tip 2: For deals, come closer to store closing. They mark down all the cooked food and such.

Appreciate the efficiency of the cashiers. Unlike the pain and agony suffered at Stupidstore.

Bonus points for eye candy patrons.

Part of me feels guilty for choosing this mega market super corporation over the well-meaning mom-n-pop shops down the street in Chinatown, but then you can get ALL the Chinese goods you need at T&T in easy-to-shop air-conditioned aisles. Is that weak?

But seriously, T&T has everything from Chinese snacks, non-Chinese staples (milk, fruits, cereals, etc.) to live seafood (is the gigantic king crab just for display or do they really hope to sell that monster?), full butcher shop, and expansive frozen section. There isn't as much prepared food as the Richmond location in Yaohan Centre, but you can still pick up what you need.

Though not as cheap as some places in gastown..aka sunrise market.T and T is way easier and more enjoyable to shop. Tons of selection and lots of random new foods for trying. The prices are still better than anywhere downtown for groceries and the place is huge and super clean. They also have a hot food and sandwich, sushi, ets deli so its a great place even to stop for lunch or grab dinner on your way home. Staff are always nice. The only reason it lost one star is because sometimes its hard to find something you need and noone really around to ask. The bakery is amazing!! and they usuallu have samples of stuff, yum!

I like T&T (what does T&T even stand for anyways?) I only wish that whoever designed this particular location had the right of mind to place the fish department in the back somewhere in a corner, instead of close to the entrance. As soon as you walk in your olfactory sense is bombarded with the fishy smell I now associate with almost all Asian grocery stores. Hence the one star off!

It would be best if all grocery stores took their fish departments and contained them in another room, that is smell proof so that the rest of the store can have a reprieve from the smell of dead ocean organisms.

That is not to say I don't like the smell of fish markets, but there is something totally different about a fish market that is outdoors in the open air compared to one inside a building with crappola ventilation. Lets face it, ventilation technology hasn't really improved much, but what do I know?!?

    Thank-you T & T.

For altering the hue of my seafood consomme from a clear palette of rich ambers into a creamy primordial oozing swamp. Thank-you T & T Supermarket. For turning my soup and the expensive ingredients that once resembled a golden sunset into a boiling putrid mass of murky red tide.

For turning my broth from manna from heaven into the plague of Water into Blood, thank-you. It was positively biblical. Indeed your prawns almost introduced me and my family to another plague, Pestillence.

For turning the subtle bouquet of my seafood consomme from savory and nuanced into the miasma of a fishmonger's wet flatulent dog. Thank-you.

And for your beneficent attempt to strengthen my immune system. Thank-you.

This is on my usual route to pick up the weekly groceries.  It usually has reasonable prices for most produce and many reasonably priced Japanese foodstuffs - saves me the trip of going to Fujiya.  It is busy at times but nowhere close to Metrotown's and the cashiers are very efficient.

Other grocery chains that still pack groceries for you can definitely learn a thing or two from the folks at T&T, including wrapping bottles and jars in newspapers.

My only issue with T&T at this location, they always never seem to have the red/green  tie wraps for the plastic bags.

My REAL pet peeve is when the meat section is busy and the staff does not follow the ticket machine and then you have the usual rude people who have no sense of courtesy and jump ahead of the queue.  I usually then loudly complain in English to cause a scene.  The yellow-jacket Security person usually comes and sorts things out.   After I get the usual dirty stares and my cut of meat, I then give a couple of choice words in Cantonese towards the offender before heading towards the check out line.

    Anyway, the Law returns always...

it makes me feel like i'm in asia again, which is awesome. whether i'm missing mie goreng, or need some sort of asian sauce (like oyster sauce or sesame oil) to make a dish or craving sambal... they have it all.

cheaper for fruit and veggies too than safeway or anywhere like that.

they have awesome chinese food (like the sticky rice, dim sum, etc.) as well for sale (hot and cold) that goes on sale after a certain hour, because the stand shuts down and they just package the rest and put it in their display fridges.

Walking in T & T Supermarket is like walking in to a supermarket in Bangkok. It's a slightly surreal experience with the exact hubbub you would experience in a supermarket in Asia.

All the fresh produce is very reasonably priced and far fresher than any surrounding supermarkets.

The seafood department is no acceptation, with half of the selection swimming in tanks before your eyes. But you will find yourself thinking 'surely it's illegal to sell turtle meat?!'

The sweet tooth won't be disappointed either with an assortment of crazy cookies and candy, my particular favorite being Hello Pandas.

Those not gastronomically inclined fear not as there are curries and stir fry's hot and ready to eat as well as an ample sushi range to choose from.

If there was ever an ingredient to an elusive curry that you have never been able to track down you will certainly find it at T & T.

In Vancouver we're pretty lucky that we've got such amazing access to a variety of Asian foods and goods that the people in eastern Canada can only dream of, and T & T Supermarket exemplifies this. I come here several times a week to pick up essentials like soy sauce, sesame oil or miso paste, but it's also a great place to get meat - ground pork, ribs, chicken, etc. is all much cheaper than many other of the large chains such as Safeway or IGA. Not only that, but I just like to cruise up and down the aisles to take a look at some of the items lining the shelves (and in a lot of cases, try and guess what they are). Sure, I may never try a lot of the more challenging foods sold here, but it's nice to know I can get them if I do ever decide to man up and try some of them.

    EDIT

One thing that slipped my mind when I initially wrote this review was that they individually shrink-wrap a ton of their produce! I'm sure this is so you have to buy a minimum amount, but not only does this crap end up in land-fills, do you know what the plastic shrink-wrapping does to mushrooms?! Do you?! You just lost yourself a star T&T!

I was hesitant to provide a star rating because I just want to talk about the fast food lunch, and it seems silly to knock a huge supermarket down because of it's fast food option.

    But I don't have a choice.

    BUT

The amount of food that you get is insane! And it's all sauce. I walked from T&T back to Seymour trying to balance my lunch perfectly so that sauce didn't spill all over the place, and by the time I got to Seymour not only was my arm sore, but the bag was flooded with sauce.

Easy on the sauce there T&T.

Living close to T&T Supermarket has offered us the opportunity to find and cook with any and all Asian culinary ingredients and products you could dream of.  Never mind the overwhelming choices of sauces and condiments that are often next to impossible to find at local grocery marts, but T&T also offers a screamingly fresh fish monger, along with a cafeteria-style hot foods take-away.  Whole Peking duck, barbecue pork, sushi, Vietnamese spring rolls (I often live off these, hoisin sauce is a revelation) and a huge variety of bits and pieces of various animals barbecued, pickled and the like.  Serious, made fresh daily Asian cuisine a stone's throw from GM Place, Tinseltown mall and the Stadium Sky Train.

This is definitely the largest Asian supermarket I have been to and it can be fun to wander up and down the aisles learning about new things to cook with, the choices are truly endless.  Give the fresh baked soft-gooey coconut buns a try!

coming from the US, the first thing that caught my eye was the little red basket cart things!!  HOW COME we dont' have that.  i think that instanty set the tone for my experience for an asian supermarket.  Here we have 99 Ranch, but I think T&T has got us beat.

They've got sections and packaging devoted strictly for HOT POT.  And what do we have?  just chains and chains of these shabu shabu places opening up.

I absolutely love their thinly sliced fresh meat that has the Hot Pot logo on there.  It was almost being a kid in a candy store and just picking and choosing almost everything..from beef tongue, beef chuck, lamb shoulder, pork loin, to almost anything.

ONE big downfall....they don't have alcohol, but I soon learned that that's how it is in Canada.  All alcohol is purchased at a liquor store. and NO, Safeway doesn't sell alcohol either.  I might as well put a big sign on my head saying im not from around there instead of askin the workers where the alcohol section was.

Asian haven for my chinese eats... takeout and prepacked food if you're in a hurry.... and weekend samples for new eats and funky desserts!

Prices are always reasonable .. for the most part... and although their pineapple buns are no New Town and Kam Do, they are still yummy in my tummy.

And especially if you're sick like I was the last week - always good to buy a loaf of "PAI BAO" aka - plain bun... you can find it in the bakery section, hanging on the shelf.. it's packaged up as a row of 5 -6 large slices....they are also raisin loafs.

Their meat section allows me to buy my lean pork.. and I picked up some chinese melon / cucumber for soup that I hoped would heal me!

There is always a large selection of seafood.. although I did once go looking for bass and they didn't have any. Sales are endless and you really cannot go wrong.

T & T rocks the mustard? More the soy sauce. Everything in the comments thus far are pretty much bang on. It's easy to wander around here with a glazed demeanour in light of the incredibly different catalogue of foodstuffs. If you are in search of *that* type of soy sauce or green asian vegetable, this is your answer.

I just wanted to pop a note in that this is definitely not somewhere to go for a regular shopping trip. Things I've found that they don't have:

    - shaving cream
    - cheese (Kraft singles notwithstanding)
    - tinned beans
    - regular basil (ie not the fragrant Thai variety)
    - you get the picture

But this doesn't matter. Costco is right around the corner and Sav-On is just over the Cambie bridge. And neither of those places have Hon's vego potstickers (50 for about $8) or Indo-Mie Mi Goreng (box of 30 for $10). So good, so cheap. Ahhh.

'Scuse me? Do I want three extra pounds of meat? Well since I ordered one and I'm really hungry, sure . . . I mean No! No! Don't try to up-sell me. It's meat! It's not like I walked in to buy some pants and that mauve sweater (Yes, I said mauve and no, really, I'm a dude) just happens to go with the pants that I just bought.

For the record, I'm all for T & T. They have cheap (cost effective for you sensitive people) food and plenty - o - it. When your recipe calls for a chili sauce that comes from a small Indonesian town, T & T will have it.

The downside is that they pretty much thumb their noses at the environment. Everything seems to be individually wrapped. What's up with that? And, as I mentioned in the opening, you really have to watch them when you order anything. It's amazing how one pound/455grams can easily turn into a case lot. I was lucky because they asked me if I wanted 200% more than I had ordered. Most times, they'll just scoop up what they think you should buy and hand it to you over the counter. If you don't have the huevos to object, you're stuck paying for the extra pound or so of meat.

I've gotten so used to it, so I just shrug, laugh and say, get those two extra lamb shanks out of my order . . . you cheeky basterd.

All in all, I like this place. You just have to get used to the service there. It's definitely different.

By the way, do I look fat in this meat?

Living a few blocks away has made T&T my go-to grocery store. The produce selection is excellent, and everything is in good condition unlike my local produce shop in Chinatown. The meat counter is great as I have a love for all things pork. Usually I can get my hands on some sort of well priced special on fresh meat - shoulder and belly being one of the usual suspects. The grocery section is small on western staples, but you can usually find what you're looking for. Plus, what were you expecting? This isn't Safeway.

T&T has been responsible for making me fall in love with Korean junk food. It can be frustrating however when they have stocking issues with Melona ice cream bars.

Also, though I didn't expect much, the floor staff wasn't too helpful when asking for specific ingredients. My search for Sichuan peppercorns resulted in general waves towards the spice aisle or simply blank stares. My Mandarin and Cantonese are non-existent so,  I guess I'll just keep browsing on my own (for those searching for Sichuan peppercorns, they are labeled as Chinese Prickly Ash in the spice aisle, confusing, no?)

All in all, T&T is a great resource for one-stop shopping for Asian groceries for those of us without the language skills to bargain in Chinatown. Cheap meat, good selection in most departments and solid specials.

being a foodie and really loving grocery shopping T&T is on my regular hit list!
I go to buy fresh seafood for sure and also recently discovered they have boneless beef shanks, perfect for the pressure cooker and then finish on the BBQ with a bit of sauce.
I stock up on coconut milk (cheapest in town), pick up some tofu desserts and grab a bag of potstickers.
Also try the hot food bar at the back for a great cheap lunch and don't forget the bakery for those of us addicted to egg tarts you know what I mean. Warm and melt in your mouth.
Even if you don't shop here just taking it all in makes you think you could be in Asia someplace.

OMG why don't we have one of these in Phoenix?

This has got to be the largest most extensive Chinese market I have ever seen. I think we wondered around for over an hour and hadn't seen half the items in the store.

We ended up leaving with quite a few favorites for my friends parents and he definitely seemed excited this store existed. Prices seemed reasonable especially for the meat and seafood and the smell of takeout lofting through the air was oh so tempting.

Overall a great market from what meets the eye!

I tried the place three times for lunch and it's been largely uninspiring. I went in once and twice for take-out. The salmon sushi looked enticing, but farm-raised salmon is bland. Braised veggies were overdone and tasteless, rice was so-so; maybe one of the meat dishes was alright.

I'd rather walk a few more minutes and get a half barbecued duck from Chinatown for the same price, but a more satisfying meal.

Although larger places like Superstore and Save-On are slowly starting to carry more selection for Asian goods, it certainly holds nothing in comparison to the amounts at T & T.

Being an Asian supermarket this is the place I go to when I'm preparing some sort of Asian meal, it has every ingredient you're looking for and it is authentic having been imported.

Elsewhere you may be picking up the same ingredient (especially condiments / sauces / dressings) but they are typically the westernized equivalent to them and thus your dish never ends up tasting as good.

Being at the foot of the steps to the Stadium Skytrain station makes it easy to come and shop here and lug things home.

I'm a grocery store tourist. Whether it's Safeway or Meinhardt, I walk up and down each aisle with a half smile and a slightly disoriented look on my face -- looking to the signs over the aisles as my street map. I read labels, smell produce, do everything tourists do except take photos (unless I'm on a Yelp mission).

T&T has to be one of the best spots in town for this kind of wandering, save the fact of its level of busyness, which is pretty consistent. It's a grocery store where "go with a list" is great advice. If not, you'll end up carrying two very full baskets and your arms will scream at you as you waddle home.

The fish here looks impressive, but on my last visit for some sushi ingredients there was only salmon that was sushi grade. And in my chat with the fishmonger he really didn't seem too sure about that.

Also, much like the grocery stores versus the small grocers, the prices here were a little more than I expect to pay. The selection is great, however, so it truly is a great spot to hunt for a favorite item or discover something new.

I love T&T. There's no other way to begin this review than by attesting my love for this grocery store. Since coming back to Vancouver from Asia, I've been pining for all things Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese and, well, you get the point.

After my two-week honeymoon with Western-style food and organic cheese, I really started to crave proper miso soup and rice wine vinegar that didn't come from the "Authentic Asian" section of an urban marketplace (Choices, I'm looking at you. They carry sesame oil that tastes like even blander version of peanut oil! ). Plum sauce, hoisin sauce, black bean sauce and as many kinds of soy sauce that your heart could ever possibly desire... it's all here! Ooh.. and let's not forget their selection of mayonnaise!

Their seafood selection is good, better than what's available at most Safeways (which I know isn't saying much). They have a hot section dedicated to take-away meals and newly roasted meats. I'm particularly fond of the bakery. The cakes are quite good and I wouldn't be embarrassed to bring some of them to a dinner party.

T&T is the perfect place to pick up the tools and ingredients to broaden your palette and add a new dimension to your cooking.

The produce department: wow!  Lots of stuff that is quite unusual to me.  But also a fresh variety of the familiar things I love.

This place is huge- but there's also a lot of people here!  They open to a cul de sac, so if you drive it's easy to load your car with your groceries.  A lot of the shoppers live in this area, but it's also convenient to the skytrain (just right down the stairs if you get out at Dumsmuir).

There's a lot of prepared foods here- the bakery offers many delicious pastries, and the sushi bar gives you tons of options.

This place was incredible.  They even have dim sum ready to eat in the store.  The selection of fresh seafood is incredible.  Very clean store with a great selection.  They even have fresh baked half loaves of bread.  What a concept.  Wish we were staying another day because there's plenty to stock up on for a delicious dinner.
Our daughter also loved the shopping baskets.  They have wheels on the bottom and a long handle to pull them around the store.  Great idea.

Yep, I'm fully jumping on the T&T bandwagon. My #1 reason: proper okonomiyaki sauce! I got hooked on this Japanese omelette/pancake and learned to make it at home, but it's just not the same without the mysterious brown sauce. And they sell it here!

The produce is reasonably priced and you can find many Asian veggies that are absent from other grocers. But don't go here looking for good ol' parsnips and turnips! You'll walk away with daikon instead.

The cakes in their bakery are wicked and beautifully presented. I've enjoyed them at more than one birthday celebration. Their sushi counter is also very convenient, as is their hot food take-away counter. I've also found that the staff here is really helpful and I usually get smiles, which is a nice bonus.

At first I was not too impressed with T & T but after I recent visit I am becoming a fan. First off it is the closest grocery store to my new Gastown loft and coming from Kits I am all about walking to the grocery store to pick up my daily needs.

The produce is very fresh and much cheaper than what you would pay at the more conventional supermarket. It is also really cool to check out some of the traditional Asian ingredient that I wouldn't have the foggiest idea what to do with! They look awesome none the less. I typically 'cook' salads, stir fries and sandwiches and T & T definitely has me covered. Who knows, maybe one of these days I will pick up some fish balls and have a little fun in the kitchen!

Unlike most of the T&T fans out there, I am taking off 2 stars. I mean its great. I live like less than a block away and it's really convenient but there are some things that have been brought to my attention that I don't like.

To start off with the pros; they usually have really fresh products (but for some reason, their white onions always suck?). The seafood is great and reasonably priced.  The Asian take-out food is great, although the meat at times have more bone than meat on them but that is okie dokie.  They have a lot of employees so each time I've been there, I haven't had to wait a long time in the line.

Now, what I don't like about this place...
One time, I came in asking for tortillas, just a basic little need, should have been simple enough. But it was not. I asked about 5 different people who had no idea what tortillas were, I even tried to explain what they looked like and they just did not understand me. I understand that is an ASIAN Supermarket but please have some people who speak or can at least understand basic needs of customers.
Also, mentioned in another one of the reviews, the overall organization of the place is kind of sloppy? Everything is kind of all over the place.
Last but not least, for some reason they always seem to run out of products, well the ones that I need anyway. :S

BUT, it's still a good place to run in and get some groceries. In and out real fast.

It is still the same, i have been told other more suburban ones have shifted abit to white bread but this one has not changed, maybe becuase of the downtown crowd that shops here. Keep it up.

Great place to get some fresh veggies quick and cheap.  If you can find parking on the street, it's convenient.  Staff is quick but don't expect perfect English or a lot of help if you have questions.

Take a typical Asian grocery with a vast selection of imported goods and good inexpensive produce, supersize it, supersize it again, add a good bakery and a takeout counter with dim sum and you've got T&T, the superstore of all Asian foods!  Never again will you have to choose between only two brands of udon noodles, or settle for the only kind of hoisin sauce at the Chain Supermarket.  Those days are behind you now.
