Review from Kari C.
Now that I'm a grown-up and can figure out Chinese groceries without the help of my grandma, T&T is also no longer only full of older Asian ladies who glare at me as if I'm The White Ghost. Sorry, the rest of the world figured out that your continent's food is kind of awesome! Deal with it.
T&T makes me feel like a life-sized cartoon, or Bill Murray's character from Lost In Translation. I could spend hours there, checking out the hilarious Engrish packaging, Batman KA-POW "Special Suggestion!" signage, and towering over most of the store's customers, with my "superior height" and "Asian pop star hair", as friends call it.
I'm slightly paranoid about the "regulation" of Chinese-made food and beauty products and so my T&T purchases are usually of fresh produce/herbs, sauces, Japanese noodles, kimchi, and Chinese products that are made in Canada, including tofu, green onion pancakes, dim sum, and treats from their bakery/prepared foods/BBQ sections, including you tiao long donuts, coconut buns, sponge cakes, steamed buns, egg tarts, and char siu. Mmmmm.
Those little drag-along carts sure are handy, because I eat a lot of food and don't often shop in tiny amounts. Chinatown is the location that I frequent the most, and it's great, but Metrotown's renovated behemoth is truly amazing. Their selection of ready-made dim sum/prepared foods is a lot more extensive, and they also have bubble tea, fruit salads, and sandwiches. Have to appeal to the mall kids! I used to be in the area more often, and would grab a green onion pancake (the flaky one!), shred it up, and pick up slices of char siu with it. Mouthgasm.
Come to T&T for cheesy elevator music, affordable prices, and maybe even to be gawked at. It's kinda flattering now.Listed in: East Van, Yo!, House of Flying Daggers

If you're looking for anything pertaining to Asian cooking- look no further.
Lots of good deals for frozen hot pot items, the bakery always has fresh egg tarts and the hot food section is cheap and filling.
I find the produce a little overpriced though! -

This location is mostly good for the action, selection, ambience but it sure can be pretty damn packed, hard to find parking, and the lineups just atrocious with its setup; sometimes it's so long, ppl line up in "L" shape...
so the trick is if you've got a handful of items, is to just to the customer service, where 2 cashiers can take your orders.
Overall it's great to go there if you're doing some shopping in the mall, check out phones at the Rogers there, but the weekends it's crazy non-stop!
And i believe it's opened an hour later than the rest. -
Review from Ryan M.
This review is for 01/01/2012. After walking around Metropolis at Metrotown, I noticed that there was one location a lot of Asians were walking to. I was wondering what was attracting so many of the Asian demographics and I found it. It was a supermarket....in the mall, the T&T Supermarket.
I am familiar with Asian supermarkets, hence I am Asian. The one thing that was unusual was the supermarket inside a MAJOR mall. In Los Angeles, most Asian Supermarkets are located on strip malls. It was a nice change to seeing something else than a Target or Wal-Mart connected to the mall.
There were tons of people in line grabbing food, as if it were the end of the world. I saw roller baskets. I thought it was standing toddler rides. People were all over the place, the seafood, the meat department, the frozen section, and the bakery. The one section that caught both my friend's and my senses was the restaurant. There was tons of cooking going on and it was so DELICIOUS, but my transporter called us to go to King Buffet.
The smell was overwhelming and my friend was drooling over the food. He wanted to get one to satisfy the appetite. My friend is worst than any dog. I kept trying to put logic, but kept saying....I am going to get one and I said, "We are going to a buffet dude!!". He is a native of Canada and it was his first time in T&T Supermarket. I am sure he is going to go back soon and try out the food. The one thing I could not find was the Yan Yans. If you find it, take a photo of it at the store. You'll sure to get a COMPLIMENT from me. :)

The display or fruits and vegetables is impressive. The store is huge and always very crowded. The prices for the fruits and vegetables is lower than a lot of chain stores, all the time. The only places cheaper are the produce stores along Kingsway or in Chinatown. The selection is pretty good at this location. I'm pretty sure this store is the largest T&T. Don't go near this store during Chinese New Years. Found this out the hard way. OMG!!!
The majority of the staff at this store speak very minimal English or none at all. There is an older gentleman there that speaks very good English. Everyone else, I avoid.
Despite the high volume of traffic, the store is very clean and organized. Perhaps Superstore and Walmart can take a lesson from T&T. Oh right, Superstore is now related to T&T. -

T&T's selection is fabulous. For the most part the store is clean and organized. Other than behind the fish counter there is rarely any staff around to advise or help.
And though many of the reviews rave about the great prices ... you can do WAY better by actually going into many of the Chinatown produce stores. Though in all honesty you will NOT get the great selection on other products in Chinatown stores.
So I rate it A+ for selection and B for pricing. -

Oh wow, this place is a freaking WAR ZONE on the weekends.
Parking is ample in the nearby parkade. With that said, you do have to give the Asian moms the occasional stink-eye while jockeying for a space. Also, try to park out of the swing range of car doors. We all know how considerate many people are when it comes to door dings.
Within a few seconds of stepping into the store boundaries, I managed to trip over 3 people. I'm not that tall myself, but I literally didn't see the other shoppers as I trampled them. If any of you are reading this, I apologize.
This is one of the larger T&T locations, so the selection quite decent. There's even a section for household stuff such as cleaners.
Other than the sardine factor, my biggest complaint is the poor layout of the check-out section. Half the counters are along a narrow strip of real estate, forcing everyone to jam in like it's rush hour.
As great as the selection is, I seriously got claustrophobic in there and had to get out. I think I'll stick to the other locations. -

The prepared food is going downhill now..oh well, one less thing I should spend money on.
The only few things I get from T&T is either Hello Kitty goods, hot pot supplies or vita drinks. I don't like to linger in this one too deathly long, the seafood section does not make my nose or stomach too happy.. -

It was a sunny day and we were working at a job site in Burnaby by Metro-town area, after having a good start in the morning I decided to take the crew for launch. Since we had an hour till our break time was over we decided to go to T&T. I was really excited to get their shrimp dumplings under my figure's.
Greet food and makes shopping more interesting when you can try some out before buying any groceries. -

T &T has everything and it's great when you're on a budget. The steamed pork buns are cheap cheap cheap! Also, very filling, so if you've got the munchies after a long day of window shopping, you'll find that change in your pocket is at least good for something. They have lots of Asian drinks, snack foods and candies you've never heard of. Who doesn't want to be able to say that sushi flavoured chips are overrated? They also have good kitchen wear, obento boxes, beauty products, free samples that I often don't get to indulge in due to cultural bias(I can over look that, though). Let's not forget about the amazing pastries, an entire isle dedicated to ramen, everything here is so good!

WOW...I need to go here and really check this place out. I have been on a mission to make my own Miso soup as I can never get enough of it and finding Miso paste has been so easy to find but the Dashi has not. After calling 5 local grocers I decided to call T & T this afternoon. Of course they had it, so over I went.
When I walked in I was in awe. The place is huge, clean and has english signs. I was in a T&T many, many years ago and there was no english to be found. Now don't call me racist or anything, I was fully expecting that again with a better comfortability with asking for help but guess what I didn't need it. The aisles are clearly marked and I was able to find the Dashi by a process of elimination on the most logical place for it lol. Since all the packages are not in english I was again prepared to ask for assistance but the great part is the price tags also have english on them. How wonderful is that?
Now the only reason it's getting a 4 and not a 5 is that I have yet to really give the place a look. I am sure that the next time I go there it will be a five star.Listed in: 4* (just a little something…, Grocery Shops

Just had dim sum lunch at T & T. What? At a supermarket? Yep!!
We had Shumai (pork dumplings, they were fatty meat, but still tasty), Har Gow (shrimp dumplings, they are below average - don't get them), pan fried turnip cake (delicious except they are missing the XO sauce), pan fried pork dumplings (again, very delicious) and congee (good flavor and not too watery).
I shared all these items for a total of $7 per person. Not the best dim sum in the world, but definitely worth the change in my pocket. Hey, my dim sum craving's gone. Mission accomplished! -

T & T in BC is like Ranch 99 in CA. They have EVERYTHING! There's a whole aisle for noodles (YUM!), a deli with yummy foods and pre-packaged foods (like spring rolls!), a bakery with so much DELICIOUS desserts, and lots of random Asian stuff.
The thing that caught my eye was their shopping baskets - it has WHEELS! How clever! So, if you're in the market for just a few items and you don't want to push around a huge cart, grab a basket with wheels and just pull it alongside you!Listed in: Canadian, eh?

If you are in the Metrotown Mall and you're looking for a meal don't go to the antiseptic Food Court, go to T&T Market on the lower floor. (Note - this is the best T&T Market in the Lower Mainland.)
The dim sum is amazing, very authentic and you'll have a cultural experience thrown in for free.
The selection for vegetarians is not great, but you can find enough selection to eat a good meal and the price is amazing. It's difficult to spend $10 per person!
The onion pancakes are coated with sesame seeds and fried. They are quite large, so I recommend you share one with a friend.
They also make rice rolls with your choice of four fillings. I recommend the black rice.
If you are a vegetarian, you should ask if items have pork. Pork is such a stable in this kind of food that many items have the ingredient but do not declare it on the label. -

Wow! I haven't been to this location in a long time and it has expanded!
It's like the one in Richmond, but it feels bigger, busier, (funner? is there such a word?).
While I was waiting for some stuff to be done, I went and had a little lunch here. The selection is amazing, Asian take out food of all kinds are here. There is a little section in the back where you can eat your take out food and bubble tea. -

We visited this place tonight to get the real sugar Coke Cola that I love my Canadian Neighbors so much for. I'm pretty sure I have never paid so much for it, but I'm a tourist and not brave enough to see if i got a good deal or not for this area. The cashier was nice and assisted me with the credit card machine, he even ID'd me, so I felt my debit card was save here! :-) I admit compared to the markets I am used to this place was very busy and a bit chaotic, but again I'm not familiar with this area and it was a learning experience for me regardless. And YES the have whatever they can marked in English and or French to make it easy for all shoppers.

I'm a naive out-of-towner-- imported from San Francisco-- and probably would have never found T & T if I weren't staying across the street at the Best Western. But, it was 10pm, I'd just arrived in town... and I was hangry!
The boyf and I decided to kill two birds with one stone and buy some staples, snacks, and dinner. My only other Asian supermarket experience has been the 99 Ranch and Lions supermarkets back home. This puts them all to shame!! Massive deli & hot foods deli section (discounted after 730pm) with brown rice sushi? Dim sum? Veggie delight with lotus root, every type of tofu/ gluten dish, and bamboo? Pearl/ jelly milk tea? Taro buns, honey buns, red bean buns, sticky rice... I'm definitely impressed. It was Asian hot food court heaven.
The produce, condiments, and other grocery sections are pretty stocked, too, with a large selection (ie not just Chinese food, but all sorts of Asian ingredients including Indian, Filipino, Vietnamese, Thai, etc.). And the place was remarkably clean, and quite large.
My biggest complaint is that it took us foreigners about 20 min to find it... It's at the basement of Zellers and this Metrotown shopping center is a navigation nightmare.
FYI: They close at 10pm all nights, not 11pm as is currently stated on Yelp. -
Review from Reena M.
The fruit cocktail cakes here are amazing! My sister got me a mango mousse cake from here for my birthday and it was a hit. And then we got a nice fruit cocktail cake for our mom from there and it looked amazing! It was a little dome shaped cake, with fresh fruit at the top and the whipped cream frosting was dusted with cocoa. The quality was actually a tad better than cakes at Maxim bakery down the hall (Shhhh!! Don't tell anyone! We used to be devout, loyal patrons to Maxim only...)
The price of the cake was a bit more than Maxim bakery. However, the quality and the creativity justifies that. They also have other kinds of cakes. My sister bought me a Mango Mousse cake for my bday from here last year and it was delicious and gorgeous! They also do it in blueberry which is next on my list!!
Also, the breads are decent. My sisters like the raisin bread because it's nice and fluffy. And they have a good selection of dim sums if you want something quick and tasty. The bbq pork is delish. It's a good place to go and browse if you're looking for the hard-to-find asian food item too. -
Review from David L.
I remember going to T&T in the early 90's when it first opened their first store in Canada in Burnaby. Woodwards closed down in Metrotown so T&T took over. Prices were expensive, selection was only so-so, and there were very few people shopping. Over 15 years later, T&T made huge improvements in Burnaby such as lowered prices, much larger selection, much larger everything in all of the departments. T&T bought the lower food court and renovated it and now it's the bakery, cooked foods, and checkout section. Now, T&T carries a huge selection of Asian goods such as fruits, vegetables, seafood, dried goods, Asian sweets, meat, bakery, dim sum, Chinese takeout, sushi. In addition, you will find a decent selection of Western goods such as cookies, pop, milk and yogurt too.
T&T is awesome for its selection and prices are reasonable for many items, and it is your one stop place for almost everything! -

I love T&T. Prices are awesome, excellent choice of ingredients especially the produce and the fresh meats.
Only annoying part is the pushing and struggling to get by the aisles due to overcrowding. But of course that is due to great prices and options.
Definitely buy fresh chicken and pork, can't beat it.
They always have everything I need. -

If you live in the lower mainland more than 6 months, you will know T&T Supermarket. Good place for Asian grocery shopping deals but more importantly, it's a great place for a quick lunch especially at the Metrotown location with so much to choose from.
My favorite are the BBQ pork and slice saugages on rice or the dim sum specials every Friday for $3.99 or you can get a decent Vietnamese sandwich for $3 which is a better deal then anything you will find at the mall food court.
I bring my lunch to work most of the time but once in a while, T&T is a nice treat from the norm. -
Review from Jon L.
Love T&T. The location at Metrotown is convenient for obvious reasons. In addition to location, they have a good selection of Asian goods. The location layout is also well spaced which is a plus. Other things I found unique was candy/snack section in which you can buy items by the pound and that are packed by a salesperson.
The baked goods section and deli is also excellent. There I found a great egg and ham croissant sandwich that was $1.50! They also have a coconut cake which is really moist and sweet that I like. The breads section is not as extensive it appears than a couple of the other T&T stores that I have found.
The deli has some great Chinese dishes, dim sum and Japanese bentos which I found to be good to know that they have. They also discount the bentos and dim sum close to closing time like a few other Asian markets I have been to do. All in all, T&T is a great place to visit for its selection and convenience. -

Having visited a few T&T locations in the metro area (Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Coquitlam and Surrey), the Metrotown location is probably the largest and cleanest with the biggest selection of groceries and household items. Parking is always a gamble at the mall because the parkade is busy all the time but Skytrain takes you right to the mall.
Although my partner is watching his carb in-take, we always linger in the bakery section to take in the scent of butter from the ovens and to admire the selection of breads and other baked goods.
If you like serving hot pot at home, you will not be disappointed with the selection of meat, seafood, vegetarian products and condiments specially cut and packaged for hot pot / shabu shabu / sukiyaki.
The best part of shopping at T&T is that there is always take-out dim sum at the deli corner for just a few bugs to refuel before lugging all the groceries home. -

For a cheap and quick snack, T&T has a cafeteria inside their store. With most Asian cuisines available on the menu, it's great if you're in a hurry and just looking for a cheap snack.

I heart T&T! This T&T Supermarket is located inside the Metropolis At Metrotown mall and is a great example of the type of Asian supermarket I enjoy shopping at. When I'm in California, I shop at supermarkets like the 99 Ranch and Seafood City for my Asian ingredients. Here in BC, T&T Supermarket is an Asian foodie's dream and carries thousands of ingredients and sauces (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese,...) needed to make those special dishes including hot pot. They have extensive seafood and meat departments, produce, bakery, and a hot foods section in the front serving up noodles, spring rolls, duck, BBQ items and more, a great convenient choice for those on a time crunch. It's great one stop shopping!!

This is not ordinary Asian supermarket in your mind. I am from California and always think Asina food markets in California are on top of this kind util I visited T&T during my recent BC trip. This food market is much bigger, cleaner comparing those in California. It resembers Whole Foods market in US. It's deli department offers a hugh verity of tasty food. We not only brought a lot for our meals for the BC trip, but brought many boxes back to States as well.

Review from Steph L.
T&T is your one stop shop for Asian foods. They have an extensive selection of all edible things Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, etc. Like in most Asian stores, they stock a larger variety of items than seems possible for a store this size. (I'm Asian and I'm still astonished!) If you can't find it here, good luck finding it elsewhere. I recently shopped their produce section for a Thai dinner and found lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, basil, red chillies, and tamarind. But where's the galangal??
My favourite sections to browse are the prepared food section and bakery. The prepared food section, especially, is a feast for the eyes! There are sandwiches, salads (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), sushi (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), cold marinated foods (like shrimp, conch, jellyfish, pig ear, seaweed, bamboo shoots, and bean curd, http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), hot entrées, Shanghainese glutinous rice rolls, dim sum (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), Portugese egg tarts (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), Vietnamese salad rolls and bahn mi among others. There's even a section in the store with chairs and tables so you can enjoy them right away! Their bakery has so many different types of breads, buns, and cakes - both whole (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) and individual portions (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...). There's also a bulk buns/rolls section (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) with pull-out drawers that are a lot nicer than what you'd see at Superstore or Safeway.
All the food I've tried here has been great (or at least pretty good). If there was a store that even remotely compares to this in San Francisco, I wouldn't be nearly as homesick. For the boundless selection of everything under the Asian sun (and free samples on the weekend!) T&T gets a solid 5 stars!
