A nice, quiet setting to study/get some work done. Wi-fi is free but you have to ask for the password. I can't comment on the coffee, but the green tea was okie dokie. I gave them 4 stars particularly for the atmosphere. The staff are really nice, they made me feel right at home.

Me and three of my favourite people came here last week for a bit of nostalgia. We had all attended Acadia University in Wolfville and had been regulars at the original TAN's location on Main Street. I know I would have ranked this place higher if it was exactly like the spot I had frequented. I suppose it is nice in its own right, but I am much too homesick to be able to see it clearly.
The cute Asian barista was genuine and cordial; she chatted to us about Jamie, one of our friends that had helped set the coffee shop up. She was also pretty skilled at making our Americano, serving the coffee and the latte.
The decor is minimal, but somehow, still cozy. There is sparse art on the walls and the floors are wooden and worn. There seemed to be dust and bits of dirt everywhere, but they seemed strategically placed, as if to knowingly add charm to the place.
I think this will be a relaxed spot to study or hang out with a girlfriend. I don't think I will come back with a large group, as I felt I was disturbing those around me. Anyways, this place makes me miss home too much, and I doubt I will return. -

All is well in the T.A.N. world.
The espresso quality here soars beyond any nearby competitors, not that there are that many. I was definitely too hasty in demanding perfection in their first month, but my first visit set an impossibly high standard. Typical me, pinning it on someone else. Whatever.
But yes, everything is great. I should praise the Coffee Gods that such a wonderous place as this has landed so close to home. And is it patio time yet? I think so!
Obligatory Title Pun: TAN out of TAN.
Menu Readability: They got a real sign! Still, I liked the doilies.
Need to mention: The music remains regrettfully at Jazz FM. I reserve the right to be a jerk about this.
What this place teaches me about myself: I'm actually listening to soundtrack of Kundun as I write this review, so maybe I am just naturally mellowed when the Glassman comes on. #pretentiousListed in: Top Coffee Shops, Coffee, Wifi, Power, LIFTOFF, Baldwin Village

One major thing that was always missing from Baldwin Village was a great coffee shop to compliment its various restaurants. So when TAN (whose Queen location was a favorite of mine on the coffee passport) opened up a few weeks ago, all my prayers were answered. No more going to Tim Hortons and Starbucks when in need of coffee while at work.
The latte and americano here are amazing, especially the latte which has the perfect amount of foam and strength for my tastes. The prices are also not that bad and possibly a little cheaper than your average indie coffee stop.
Not the greatest variety of food options but every time I have been here they have been out of sandwiches so I assume they must be pretty popular. The Queen location had more food on display, so this will hopefully catch up on that front.
Staff are very friendly and the manager has always been in (being a new location I assume she wants to see everything is running smoothly at first).
Apart from the food another slight negative is the lack of seating, only 8 seats are available but the general area while small is very spaced out. If you manage to score the table near the window, it makes for great people watching.
Add reliable wifi in to the mix and you're golden, but don't take too long to check this place out as I assume it will be crowded very soon once word gets out of it's existence!Listed in: Caffeine Adventures!, You need to Baldwin Village it…

My fellow yelper's friend makes me feel like I am on a crusade to visit every single independent espresso bars in GTA... Of course the new T. A. N. coffee is the one of those on my hundreds Yelp bookmarked to go list.
T. A. N. definitely is not ready yet... as when I walked in, it feels like it is still under renovations (in fact it is really under renovations, there were workers tiling the washroom floors!)... the empty space, walls... just lacking any identity...
Cappuccino ($3.50) which was awesome was made from Sumatran Mandehling, the flavour is more bold, nutty and have great depth...Oh and the latte art is yes a piece of art..
Maybe I just spoiled by T. A. N. location on Queen Street which has so much character both in seatings and decorations... but maybe giving Baldwin's location sometimes.. it will mature and be much better than her older sister! -

I've been to TAN a couple of times now. The first time, they were doing construction on the washrooms downstairs, and the noise of the various power tools made my stay here less than great. But it was also a reminder that the place was a work in progress. Even so, I should note that I had no complaints about the coffee.
But yesterday, when I stopped by TAN for a second try, things were looking much more ship shape. The coffee is excellent, and the space is quite pleasant. They were playing 70s funk and soul, which is A-OK in my books. My only complaint is that the table I was sitting at was wobbly on the uneven floorboards. So, on the whole, this is a Grade A coffee shop. And I think that it's only going to get better. I recommend. -

I am a regular to-go drinker here, but today was such a beautiful day that I decided to spend some time at the window seat of the cafe.
Unfortunately, three of the staff came out and started smoking on the patio. Inevitably the smoke came into the cafe and made my throat hurt a lot. It simply soured my experience. Perhaps I should stick to to-go coffee here.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This morning a friend and I decided to go on a coffee tour of our area. Residing in the Grange we did our initial stop on Baldwin St. We dared to entered John's cafe for a latte and was kindly guided to another spot unknown to us called T.A.N. coffee for what was termed "Real coffee". More businesses should take this quite unselfish to community business building.
Intially we kind of joked looking at a sign made of Doilies and the hand written with letters"T" " A" "N", that inside we would find 70 year old hippies baking spiked brownies, but our luck would have no such thing.
So we were welcomed by a cute guy with a mock mohawk, and the sound of Black Keys churning in the background.
A worn in environment that worked for this type of walk. Quite cosy in fact, reclaimed chairs, lop sided tables, and interesting photos (which when we asked were also the coffee guy's work...so not to look like i was trying to pick him up, I peeked at his art tags a now know him as Justin). We knew this day was to start extremely well. Yes I am easily persuaded into a good time by cute boys and rock 'n' roll.
We asked for a large Latte and were kindly told this drink had an extra shot of espresso. We need to make a day out of this, so we settled for what was called a "real latte"... The coffee art guy name Justin obviously took his coffee serious by the way he brushed of every last bit of stray coffee and watched the coffee pouring into the cup as if one extra drip would be the end of the world (actually kind of of weird).
Finally our drinks were finished, in a cool indigo latte cup, with an awesome looking rosetta (only ever seen at BullDog cafe), my sidekick was presented with a Tulip that looked to be drawn on with a stencil. Black keys still playing, a latte that was aestectically pleasing and smooth as velvet with the sweetness one comes to expect from a ($3.50) coffee. Our coffee day was officially over at that point, because we ordered another one to go and even got a free drip coffee for next time. This was definitely a worth while trip and a worth while review, a must go back type of place.
T.A.N.got a 4 thumbs up and a wink to the cute boy behind the bar. -
Review from Vivien L.
I decided to come by here since it's close to my place and I had nothing to do today. I figured I would make use to the free wifi so I'm writing this review as I chill out here with my decaf americano. (and my internet connection at home sucks... a lot...)
Anyways, from the outside it looks kind of shabby but once you walk in, it's pretty nice. There's only one guy working here atm so it was a little slow getting our drinks (the lady behind me actually left, I guess she was in a rush). Ok he just turned on the radio lol and it's a little loud but that's ok.
My friend's cappuccino was made beautifully and my americano was ok, just a tad too watery for my liking. The menu looked good, there were a good amount of items on there. However, I wanted to order a sandwich but I did not see any in the fridge..
Pros
Tonnes of outlets everywhere
Nice interior
Close to my house
Cons
The tables we are at both aren't level.. just our luck
Music.. perhaps they could make a play list on someone's Ipod.. because i hate listening to commercials
OK totally random but.. they have a HUGE back room! I wonder why they didnt push everything back to create more seating? hmmm..
I would definitely come again since I like coffee shops and the internet is so fast! Hopefully they will continue to improve! -

The quality of the coffee is excellent, and price is cheaper than other competitors nearby. Service is great, the baristas are always so friendly and cheerful, and I just can't get over how pretty the latte looks every time. I love it how it's so quiet and cozy here, no people getting in and out all the time, or really loud coffee shop music, and people spilling coffee drinks everywhere, you can study, read, or have a nice uninterrupted conversation with friends. I'm going to designate Baldwin TAN as my regular meet-up and get-together coffee place!

Review from Elvis A.
After a recommendation from a fellow Yelper I decided to give this place a try. The place is simple no frills (don't expect an AC or fancy sofas here) Rather they seem to focus on the service and quality aspect of things they even have a loyalty card which seems they want repeat business. The Barista was friendly as I asked for a sweetener to put in before the shot for my cappuccino is poured, some snobbish Baristas frown upon this so called blasphemy but heck its my cup of joe and i get to have it the way I want. No problems here he handed my the cup and said suit yourself the cup was warm which is the way it is supposed to be (trust me few places get it right) The drink itself looked great nice crema and latte art to boot. As for the taste the shot had a slight burnt taste which might or might not be your cup of tea or coffee (pun intended) I would say one of the better cappuccino I have had in TO but still not at par with the best of the best in Vancouver. 3.5 Stars overall.
