Great Place! I think they may have changed the name to Beijing House or something....
Walked in and it was very quiet, however it got busy as this Wednesday night proved.  The food was absolutely scorching (if you order from Szechuan Menu, they do have a regular non spicy menu also).  Very good quality and to tell you the truth I expected much less and got way more.
The absolute test with a restaurant is the bathroom....and it was spotless...so good there....
So if you are into spicy food....a MUST visit....enjoy

Take Out last night, have been looking for an authentic Szechuan resto downtown or closeby, other than Szechuan Chongqing on W Broadway which is really good.

The hostess was very helpful in helping select spicy dishes, ordered Szechuan Chicken, Shrimp in garlic sauce, Szechuan style fried rice, steamed rice. The Szechuan style fried rice was a standout: shredded beef, vegetables, and seasoned rice, I could have this on its own with Saracha!

Would go back if in the area, not quite a destination.

    Lunch Special!

1 entree, Hot & Sour soup, Bowl of rice.

I didnt know where I was going to have lunch today. I walked around aimlessly trying to decide what my tummy felt like eating.

This restaurant is fairly new to Cambie Village so I decided to try it out, and boy am I glad I did!

The tables layered with white plastic instantly brightened my eyes.  I love restaurants with this stuff! It might be a tad ghetto, but at least you know it's CLEAN!

A fresh pot of tea landed on the table at the precise moment my buns hit the chair--talk about timely service! And a fresh pot of tea all to myself! Yess!!

I ordered lunch special #1 - Sweet and sour Fried fish (refer to picture I uploaded)

The delicate slices of white fish were battered and fried to perfection! No searching for the meat in a mound of batter here! (I hate it when places do that, don't you?)  The way it was breaded and fried reminded me of the breaded/fried spicy squid you can order at dimsum restaurants -- minus the spicy part!

I almost wish the fish was seperate from the sweet and sour sauce so that I could fully savour the crispness on the surface of the soft fleshy fish.  Perhaps I"ll request this next time. =)

The soup was lukewarm at best, which is fine if you like it that way, but if your'e like me and like soup piping hot be sure to ask for it extra hot!  It was swimming with strips of tofu and had just the right flavours and consistency.

Another table for one sitting beside me ordered the kung po chicken with peanuts and it looked pretty darn tasty as well!

Can't wait to bring my hubs here.  Sweet and sour fish is one of his favs!

Definitely some of the better Sichuan food you're likely to get on this side of the Pacific.
The tables aren't laid out with linens, but instead you get the utilitarian plastic table covers. Generally, I find that these give the promise of tiny, richly marrow-flavored sections of rib bone that you have to work the meat off of and have to discard on the table. This is, of course, a very good thing.
The yu xiang qie zi, which I think they translated as "eggplant in a sweet and sour sauce", was particularly good. Sometimes that dish can be a little greasy or the garlic can be overdone - this place does it spot on.

As a final note, this is one of those rare Sichuanese restaurants in Vancouver that isn't run by Cantonese speakers, thus earning it another star by way of authenticity.

Found that my favourite Sichuan place in Vancouver has another restaurant nearby on Cambie street.   The one on Cambie street seems a little larger and the menu is just as good.   Been here a couple times and really do like the food.   Gotta love la zi ji!

This is a darn fine place for a Szechuan dinner. You know your in a good Chinese place when you are the only people speaking in English in the restaurant! Our waiter was very friendly and he was knowledgeable of the menu, always a good sign. The cucumber in garlic sauce appetizer was one of the most intense garlic flavors I have ever had, it was a great mix with the cucumber. The Szechuan Chicken, a not-so-descriptive name I know, is very spicy (note the two out of three chili peppers next to the name on the menu, we didn't have the guts to try the three chili dishes. We had on of the several broiled eggplant dishes on the menu, never the most appealing texture but very delicious in its own right. It is the only Chinese place I got to try in Vancouver (only having three nights there) and I feel it was a good choice.
