My FAVORITE Thai restaurant in Edmonton. Food is always delicious. I recommend this place to everyone I meet! Try their salad rolls with peanut sauce, to die for! Everything is very consistent here, I've never had a bad meal. Don't let the outside of this restaurant fool you, it's a true gem!

Great Thai and Lao food.  Don't let the rough looking exterior convince you otherwise.  It's almost like eating in someone's house.

Great menu with a solid variety of Lao and Thai dishes that taste like they were prepared right off the banks of the Mekong.

Definitely a go-to place for me, as I work close by. It's definitely a hidden gem, as it's located on Calgary Trail in an unassuming white building, which definitely used to be a house back in the 50s-70s.

Service is hilarious - it's definitely family-operated and you can tell that a couple of the daughters/nieces are obligated to work there. But they are competent and some of them are downright sweet.

I haven't been to Thailand or Laos but friends of mine who have travelled there say the food is true to origin. My favourite is the Tom Yum soup; I can't even begin to describe how tasty it is. It's my favourite soup in the city. It's a perfect balance of sweet, sour and spicy. Oh my God, I have dreams about that soup. Their Pad Thai is great and you're not missing out if you have the tofu version as the tofu is cooked properly. I also love the green curry but you can't go wrong with any of the curries.

    Take out is an option.

This place has the best Thai food I've found in Edmonton!  Everything I have tried is great.  I know it looks a little dodgy on the outside - but once you get inside the staff are friendly and it is very cute.  We have been coming here for a couple of years as I work close by and have never been disappointed!

Syphay is some of the best Thai and South-east Asian in town at truly reasonable prices.  There is a real home-made Mama-san quality to the food.  It's got a family restaurant vibe with friendly and welcoming service.

We commonly have golden parcels, the nutty creamy massaman with beef and potatoes, the tangy penang curry with chicken and the tart vegetarian pad thai. The spicing is good and it has that home-made depth to the flavour.  While authentic Thai food is not typically volcanic in heat as authentic Malaysian or Indian, the heat here has been "Westernised".  The good thing is that you can ask them to "make it like at home" and they know what that means and tastes like.  Be ready to sweat.  Really, this is one of the best bets for home-style Thai that you can get.

There is parking in the back off the alley as the lot next door is technically not for Syphay parking.  The building is older and there isn't really that much inside for décor.   It's the food that's the real draw to this place and deservedly so, and the fact that you can eat as much for half the money at some other Thai places.

Definitely the best Thai food in town. We've tried a number of Thai places since moving here from Vancouver and Syphay is amazing. We always get takeout though, so I have no idea what the service is like.

I'm a lover of Thai food and I love the numbing sensation you get in your mouth when you eat something awesomely spicy. I had a $10 dollar off coupon so I figured I'd give this place a shot. Kind of hole in the wall looking on the outside but the inside was decorated really cute. Purple walls and red tablecloths and not too many tables this place definitely had the mom and pop coziness feel to it. Now I don't remember the names of the dishes but I can however describe them haha. The first dish we got was a deep fried curry chicken for $8.95, the flavor was really good in this dish but the chicken was either extremely over cooked or they used a horrendous grade of chicken because it was pretty much impossible to take a bite off without looking like an animal.
Next we were stuck between a M-word curry (sorry don't remember) and just a regular yellow curry, the language barrier was really hard to get by because when I asked what the difference was she just recited what was on the menu.. We ended up going with our gut and just getting the yellow ($14.95). The other main dish we got was  a crispy chicken with veggies and cashews ($14.95). We also got a rice for 2 at $7 which I thought was incredibly ridiculous for their dimes cost of rice.

Boy was it disappointing when these two dishes came to our table. The curry had separated from the HUGE amount of oil dumped in, I would say there was at least 2-3 tablespoons dumped right on top. The crispy "chicken" was just batter. I would say maybe 20% of the dish actually had chicken in it, and even with the bits of chicken all the oil and grease rushed into my mouth and made it completely unappetizing. The only thing that really saves face for this place was the service, constantly filling of our glasses and the flavor of the curry after putting yourself to shame and eating oil.

Interesting restaurant with a lot of character. I'm not overly experienced with Thai and Lao cuisine but the menu is varied, affordable and delicious. Green curry and pad lao are great.  The front of house is usually run by the same lady every night and she is very efficient.

Maybe the best Thai food I've ever had. Service was great. Prices were a bit high ($15+/dish) but well worth it. My only complaint is the menu: too many similar options.
