cute dessert place, would rate it more than True Confections hands down.
limited seating, but most people buy the desserts to-go anyways so it's not difficult to nab a table.
everything is very good and not too heavy. however, do NOT get the mango cheesecake...all my friends and i agree that it's one of the worst-tasting cakes there. it is really tart and sweet (coming from me, who has a huge sweet tooth!) and is not enjoyable to eat. -

I work right by Sweet Obsession and was wondering to myself why I dont go for lunch more often. Ah yes, because it's rather expensive. I took out their porchetta
sandwich and a slice of mango cheesecake as a little treat to myself. The sandwich tasted exclusively of onions, I honestly dont know how they got as much onion in there that they did. The bread seemed a little stale, unfortunate for a bakery. The actual pork seemed ok, but this was a $10 sandwich that came with nothing else, it was dissapointing.
The cheesecake was good, but yes, a little on the small side.
Perhaps this is better for the little old ladies going out for tea crowd, as that's who I always seem to see here anyways. If they worked on the value for money factor at this place, I'm sure they could see an improvement in their sales, it's close to a lot of hungry office workers. -

OMG! The cheesecake with raspberry coulis is to die for! The raspbery coulis is so fresh and tart. As well, their passionfruit flan was divine! I also enjoyed the lemon dacquoise (hazlenut meringuie with lemon buttercream) with had many nice textures and flavours. A bit pricey at $5-7 per slice, but sure to impress at any party!

Not as good as I remember...
Drove all the way from downtown to Sweet Obsession b/c I had a craving for St Honore cake. First time my husband has been there so he ordered a slice of Coconut Chiffon cake. I had to wait over 5 minutes for someone to even acknowledge me... but it wasn't even busy... there was no one else waiting in line and at least 3 people behind the counter. I finally get someone's attention and was told to wait. It was 2 more minutes before I finally got to order. We took our dessert to go. Just got home and cracked open the box...
omg what a disappointment! The slice of coconut chiffon cake was TINY. Like you almost need a magnifying glass to see it! Ok, it wasn't that bad... but it was pretty dang small (approximately 1/8th of the 6" cake) for a whopping $5.50. Big price tag... teeny tiny cake.
Adding insult to injury... husband rates it a 7 out of 10. I think we will stick to driving to Whole Foods for cake from now on. -

Aggh Sweet Obsession cakes, get in my belleh!
Seriously, I walked into this place the first time, looked at the display shelf and thought, no joke, "This looks doable." Had I been forced (hah) to tackle the whole thing, I feel fairly confident that there would have been no survivors.
As it was though, I hadn't the money to put my plan into action, and so decided to opt for what sounded best to me - The Peanut Butter Mousse. As I went to the counter to ring it up, the guy says, "Do you like chocolate truffles?"
UM YEAH I DO!
So I got a free one of those which was a lovely bonus.
Went home...nommed down truffle and peanut butter mousse, and I am not ashamed to tell you, licked the remnants off the serving paper. It's that good.
You know I'll be back here to try their coffees and hot chocolates too...this could be a problem. -

It might be a little bit hard to find at first, and parking is a bit finicky.. but mm MMmmm MMmmm are the cakes worth the while!
Cute cake shop where you pick your own cake, and take it to a little table. The cafe isn't that big, so I always recommend to buy an ENTIRE cake to go.. or a whole bunch of slices.. to take out and share with your friends. They will undeniably ask, where you got the cake from ;) Don't want to share? Keep it in the fridge! Its good on day 10, as it is on day 1.. if you don't inhale it all in one sitting. One of my favorite "western" cake shops! Have ordered multiple birthday cakes from them, as well as just because i love it, cakes!
There are tons of options, and all the flavors are different. The price is actually reasonable compared to a lot of other dessert places. Its runs about $4 a slice, and its quite a generous slice. A lot of other places know for dessert, is starting to charge a ridiculous $10 for a slice of cake! And the taste does not even compare to Sweet Obssessions.
If you weren't obsssessed before, you might start becoming an addict. You have been warned :P

Even though the place is filled with a huge variety of rich and delicious desserts, I actually come for a cuppa and the scones. They have a maple and pecan scone which is definitely one of my favourite sweet obsessions at Sweet Obsessions.
What is so nice about this place is that they aren't just about the cakes and mousses, they have a reasonable selection of soup, sandwiches, croissant, muffins and scones as well, so if you are meeting a friend, there really is something to please everyone.
They had an awesome clerk named Doris who worked there for a long time before she retired last year. She was a throwback to an era gone by, would call you "sweetie" or "hun" and was always blunt about what was or was not good that day. To me, the place has lost a little luster in her absence. -
Review from Gina I.
Pretty yummy and a delectable selection of pastries, cakes, cookies, bread, buns, you name it.
The price makes me a little squeamish, but what can you do? It's an artisinal bakery with yummy pastries and such.
We shared the little apricot tart and it was not too sweet, which is a nice contrast when you're having a cuppa joe with it as well.
I may be a little biased as my cousin works here making some of the things in the back, but I made sure to have something she didn't make so I could rate it properly :) -

Sweet Obsessions has been one of my biggest obsessions ever since the 90's. They use only the best ingredients including New Zealand butter, fresh cream, fruits and high quality chocolate. Have never been disappointed.
My favorites are: Passion Fruit Flan, Chocolate Concorde, Lime Raspberry Flan, Lemon Dacquioise, Lemon Mousse Cake and the Napolean Cake. All amazing and worth the trip each on their own.
I have also had numerous cappuccinos there when I dropped in to take out pastries. Overall their cappuccino is ok but not in the same league as 49th Parallel, JJ Bean or some of the boutique small coffee house players that keep popping up. I go there for the dessert not the coffee but it is fairly good. They also serve teas to go with the desserts and have sandwiches and salads for lunch.
Their cookies and Christmas baking are also amazing. I used to buy baskets of Christmas goodies for clients.
Overall if you get obsessed with Sweet Obsessions you may grow in girth but you will be happy with your obsession and likely go back again as soon as you can. -

Giving this establishment a mediocre rating is being considerably generous. I just got back from the cafe today after meeting up with some friends for dessert there. The service was the worst I've ever experienced in a cafe setting. We had a party of four, so instead of telling us to wait five minutes for the next table sitting four to be available; our waitress told us in the most snobby and condescending, tone quote on quote "well that's too bad, you'll just have to sit separately" and briskly walked away. The desserts did not make up for the horrible service. I do not recommend this place,I say go to Ganache instead :)

A dessert lovers paradise! Cases filled with mouth watering treats. Lot's of chocolate!
First time here, Chocolate cake was delicious! Will go back again and try more things! Only downside is that it's a bit out of the way... -

$6.66 a slice!
That damn HST has combined with the Peanut Butter Mousse to form a devilishly brilliant piece of cake.
I just licked the cake paper from the bottom of the package.

Eating cake on non-birthdays makes me feel so deviant and yet.. so wholesome. Thinking about all the people getting hamered at bars while I sip tea and nibble on tarts make me feel so well-behaved. I don't think Sweet Obsession serves the best dessert in town but something about this quaint little place is adorable. It's off the beaten path and feels like one of those places where you have to be 'in the know' to come. I always like getting some knick-knacks to take back home and this time I bought some cinnamon twists. They were yummy. The chocolate pear tart was just alright and the chocolate torte was pretty good. The last time I came here was about 2 years ago and the menu looks exactly the same. It would be nice to see some new stuff!

I am always disappointed by a place that has good coffee but lousy pastries or vice versa. It seems like there are so few places that are able to do both well.
Sweet Obsessions is a nice, clean cafe that has a great dessert selection, delicious pastries AND good coffee.
I picked up a lemon danish and an americano this morning on my way to work. Both items were delicious.
Hopefully our Vancouver weather will stay nice so I can go back there soon to sit out on their patio and have dessert one night after dinner. -

I've been going for years now and I've never been disappointed! I went to high school down the street and many of my friends live in the area. Popping in to Choices or Sweet Obsessions logically followed.
My favourite by far has to be the Triple Chocolate Mousse cake. Each layer is delicious, light, and by far the best chocolate mousse I've ever had. This place is definitely a 'must visit' :) -

If I admitted just how many times I have been here, or just how many of their delectable desserts I have drooled over before taking a bite --you may think I'm an addict.
The St. Honore, mango cheesecake and everything chocolate in between - there hasn't been a dessert I've not liked --although of course, I have my faves.
Must tries:
White Chocolate Raspberry Mousse
Black and White Mousse
Chocolate Ganache
and my favorite - Peanut Butter Chocolate Mousse
The place fills up fast, but you can take your cakes to go -there's always a park closeby -just east on 16th.
I suggest you bring someone with you so you can experience more than one cake... I'm free if necessary! -
Review from Reena M.
After all these great reviews in mind, a friend and I headed to Sweet Obsession with high expectations. However, both of us were sorely disappointed. :-( Still frowning, thinking about the experience.
Nothing wrong with the service or anything.
Maybe we just ordered the wrong things. My friend got the mango cheesecake, and I got the hedgehog cake. The mango cheesecake was alright, but totally not the best cheesecake we had. And after the first few bites, it was like we were just eating it to finish it. Not because we wanted to savour every bite. That's sad when a dessert makes you feel that way.
The Hedgehog Cake or hazelnut cake (because I don't recall any chocolate in it really) was... kind of disappointing. I like my cakes to be moist and mesh well with the frosting. The frosting itself was good because it wasn't too sweet. But the spongecake was kind of dry. Well I wish they used normal cake instead of spongecake. And in between the first and second layer they had crushed hazelnuts which totally disjointed the cake. With this one, I didn't even want to finish it. I can't believe I actually didn't finish my dessert! I never do that!! I've gotten more satisfaction from an $8.99 1/4 sheet slab of tuxedo cake or chocolate truffle cake from Save-On foods.
So maybe we got the wrong things. Perhaps we should have stuck with the mousse cakes. Would I go back? Probably wouldn't go out of my way to go here as I did today. But if it happens to be in the vicinity and i'm looking for a dessert place.... actually not even then because Sweet Revenge is not too far away. So I would only come back upon someone else's request. -

I'm dessert person, I love dessert day and night.
I didn't go there almost a year. Went there to buy few pieces of cakes to go tonight. I found the slice of cake much small than before, but price increased. They have a lot of varieties of desserts, most of them are so good.
I love their Chocolate Hazelnut Zuccotto, full hazelnut in the cake and very rich chocolate outside. Yummy.
Cheese cake - Chocolate marble, Mango and Lemon were tasted rich with strong favour.
It's good place to go for dessert. -

Don't get fooled by the pictures....I Had the peanut butter chocolate mousse people mentioned here and the dulce de leche cake... honestly? I can do much better and cheaper... Was $6 bucks a veeeery veeery small slice of cakes, and didn't have much taste.. was like eating cardboard with something sweet on it...
Only if i want's so lazy to wash all the pots and pans required after baking... I would just keep making my own desserts... -

Well this city is lined with come of the best pastry places on the West Coast in my opinion!
And in all honest Sweet Obsession Cakes and Pastries is one of those well kept secrets... well until you stumble on it with Yelp. I have been coming here for a few years now when I'm in the mood of some comfort food chocolate cake or the French style pastries that seem to have been successfully translated from my memories romping around Paris with a 70L backpack gawking at the Arc de Triumph.
If you are definitely looking for one of those places that is open early to late I would suggest a visit here... I do recommend that you try their Triple Chocolate Mousse with a cup of their Pear Tea or the Almond Croissant with a Cappuccino with a hint of cinnamon ;) Though it can be really busy on the weekends but usually the weeknights early mornings are great. Seating is limited! -
Review from Vincci L.
Vancouver really needs more of these cute dessert places, serving up all different kinds of desserts;there's always something for everyone.
Cute little place, with several small tables. Simple decor, simple wooden tables and bench seats. There's not much service here. You basically enter, and seat yourselves.
Wide range of cakes, pastries, and breads. I like how they display all their treats in a case, so you can stand in front of it in awe while you decide what to get. I stand there for at least a good 5 minutes everytime.
They have the Mighty Leaf teas here! Loose leaf teas, in a pyramid shaped tea bag. Since I've been introduced to it a couple of years ago, I've been hooked on their vanilla bean tea. They also have coffees, lattes, and mocha as well as teas to accompany your dessert.
Favourites include the Dulce de Leche cake-Cinnamon flavoured vanilla chiffon layered with dulce de leche and pecans with milk chocolate ganache. This is seriously super delicious!! The dulce de leche soaks into the vanilla chiffon cake, with each bite, all the flavours mix together perfectly.
Mocha torte-6 thin layers of vanilla sponge and mocha butter cream, coated in chocolate ganache. Mocha butter cream, oh how I adore you!
Also try out their mousse cakes-they are always smooth and creamy, and flavourful. Triple chocolate, triple berry, white chocolate raspberry, these are absolutely amazing.
Another cool dessert is the Concorder-interesting looking dessert, a very artsy dessert indeed, with hazelnut meringue, layered with rich chocolate mousse, covered with spires of meringue. Gluten free! The hazelnut meringue is delicious!
Many of their cakes can also be ordered in 6,8, or 10". Call a couple of days ahead to reserve it. They even make custom wedding cakes.
Great place for a variety of desserts; there's always something for everyone.Listed in: Sweet Treats.

Okay, I have a confession. I am not really a dessert person. People always assume I am. Perhaps it is because I am always making desserts or talking about them. But really, I rarely eat them. They just don't seem to entice me much. Upon arriving at Sweet Obsessions, I morphed into a cake lover.. if only for the night. The tiramisu was lovely, as well as the chocolate ganach cake. I scarfed down the dulce de leche cake. I then finished it all off with a double-chocolate brownie.. yum. I bet you think I'm a pig now, oh well. The only cake that didn't tatalize my tastebuds was the mango cheesecake. There was something a bit off about it. It didn't really taste like mango or cheese... hmmmmm.

My boyfriend took me out for dessert as part of our anniversary celebrations. The decor was perfect as a dessert place. And the selection was incredible. It took me awhile to decide on which dessert I wanted to try. Everything looked good and I'm a picky sweets kinda girl. I don't like things that are too sweet or rich. Everything in the case looked so yummy.
My boy chose the St. Honore (puff pastry with vanilla pastry cream and chocolate mousse drizzled with dark chocolate). I had a slice of Chocolate Hazelnut Zuccotto (chocolate ganache dome with chocolate chiffon, chocolate mousse and hazelnut mousse). We also ordered a decaf coffee and an Americano.
Since it was a nice, warm evening, we sat outside. Our desserts were delicious and the coffees were perfect. The flavours were balanced and perfect sweetness. The chocolate had the perfect richness to it. We had such a great time and will definitely be coming back to try out all the other choices.
It was a Monday evening, but the place was quickly filling up as people strolled in for dessert after dinner. -

I loved this place. A nice small cafe for tea and desert. I have been there only twice and they have tons of great deserts. I will go back again many times more just for deserts.
I would like once to take some home for a nice desert night with friends. I plan to do that in the future. I loved how this place is still on the down low and not a lot of people know about this little place yet.
Amazing deserts. -

A nice little pastry shop/cafe in the Arbutus area beside Choices supermarket and also owned by Trafalgar Bistro a few doors down. You can eat in or have it to go. They have a good selection of cookies, pastries and desserts. I like how their display case showcase their yummy and decandent desserts. I always get the jam filled cookies, fruit on a puff pastry and their delightful light and not too sweet triple berry mousse cake. I also like their lemon tarts because it's tangy and not too sweet.
They also have a good selection of sandwiches and soups too. A good place to grab a light meal. -

I always get my cakes here, for birthdays, anniversaries, New Year's, Christmas, Valentine's...any occasion is enough occasion for an opportunity to have cake from here! I love the flans, love the tartness and the creamy fruit filling. They ARE quite tart though, so don't get it if you can't handle it. I also like the cheesecakes (lemon or mango). I like the candied fruit peels they put on top. The berry mousse is good too. I think I tend to like the fresh-tasting cakes better, not so much a fan of the rich chocolate cakes. Better to get my chocolate fix from brownies, I say!
Mum likes their tiramisu, but I myself think my homemade version is better. *shrugs*
Roasted coconut is quite good too, except the frosting is a bit bland...the least sweet of the cakes I've tried here.
I had the hazelnut zuccotto for my birthday this year, wasn't a complete fan of this one. A bit too sweet...plus the cake part wasn't that great. I like the fudgey part inside though, and the ganache frosting.
Next time I want to try the hedgehog and then the PB chocolate thing...mmm.
Service is always great here, even when it's busy. Good idea to order your cake beforehand, which is what I always do. -
Review from Allison F.
I shared a piece of both bittersweet chocolate and ganache cake last night and the both combined made a fabulous cake but on their own, they could use a couple of tweaks.
The bittersweet chocolate cake had deliciously moist and rich cake but the frosting was too buttery and a little bland. The chocolate ganache cake had fabulously delicious ganache and while the cake was moist, it lacked any sort of flavour.
Slices are an appropriate size though and perfect for sharing if you want to try multiple treats! -

Every year we go here to get my husband's birthday cake - the toffee cake with toffee sauce. It's absolutely amazing! The only problem is that we just don't have enough events to warrant buying cakes here more often and trying everything else they have to offer. It all looks amazing and it's my goal taste it all at least once!

Cute little place to go to after a nite out with friends and you want someplace to chill and have dessert. The place is quite small though, and at times, the waiting line is long. They do have a good selection of tea and the tiramisu and apple pastry, and fruit cake is unbelievable. Slices range from $3 to $5.

This place is great. The cakes are so moist to the point of perfection. My all time favorite is the Roasted Coconut Chiffon cake and 2nd place goes to the Peanut Butter Chocolate Mousse. This little gem is by far superior to the competitors (True Confections) and cheaper.

When you have a craving for dessert, Sweet Obsession is the place to satiate your heart's sugary desire. The menu here features a scrumptious array of cakes ranging from cheese cake to a lime raspberry flan and lots of chocolate deliciousness in between. I had the triple chocolate mousse cake, and it was fresh and rich, but also light and airy. In other words, it was the perfect chocolate treat. If you come to this place, you will find a slightly off-putting sign on your table pleading with you not to take more than 30 minutes to eat and run if there are other people waiting for a table. Not exactly a friendly way to do business, but if you are in need of a dessert fix, it's worth it to come here and either eat quickly or take your dessert home with you. Delicious!
