Review from Shelly M.
Wonderful decor inside very traditional European luncheon spot.
Food is more geared for Hungarian, for the goulash which is pretty good, served with crispy crust French baguette..
Sandwiches are more what you find in These places, crab salade, egg on crossai nt, chicken schittez,Listed in: Salons, Girly things!!

From the outside, this looks like an innocent (although yummy) bakery....but inside! There's a fantastic cafe (with full breakfast and lunch service) in the back.
I went in there to buy some baklava and ended up eating a ham sandwich! All the food just looked so good! And it was.
It's a quaint space with beautiful lights and Christmas decorations right now. The staff is friendly and fast and of course, the dessert menu is obscene(ly great).
And the baklava! I brought two pieces (not overly large pieces) home with me to have with tea with my friend Jen and both of us were SHOCKED at how incredibly thick and juicy they were. "Meaty" was the word we both used to describe them. Sooooooooooooo gooooooooooooood.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Sweet gallery, a cute place, and also is one of the MANY bakeries along the Bloor West strip.
This one can be set aside from the others due to the fact that they offer High Tea and a very cute sitting section to where , for the price of your first born son, you can experience mediocre tea with a mediocre pastry.
You walk in, expecting a really high end place, and are instantly let down.
The atmosphere is old-school. Sorry, Old fashioned, or maybe the word, classic can be used. This word can also be used to describe many (if not all) of the patrons there.
The long pastry case, housing pastries that are pleasant to look at from a distance, is the length of most of the store.
The seating is directly ahead. It's a bit of a shame, really. A seating area that is cramped, with a hodgepodge of chairs, and no room to walk? Someone didn't think this through.
I asked the server, after a bit of time waiting, to bring me some tea and her best pastry.
The tea, which I had asked for, was regular Tetley tea. It came in the prepackaged tea bag (not even individually wrapped), which cost me a whopping amount of money. I kind of expected a bit more from a swanky-looking place like this. Probably my fault for having expectations.
The pastry, however, was interesting. It was a custard tart in a sweet paste shell with low-quality apricot glaze slathered on top of three slightly dead looking blueberries.
This is the best? Well, maybe I should try some...
First bite: Sweet paste was soggy, custard was made with flour, and the glaze had a manufactured taste to it. It was not fresh.
Unbelievably, I have a diploma on the wall that says that I am trained to taste. I know how, I am a pastry chef. I know when someone has used a different sugar, a different flour, a different fat. I can tell when something is manufactured.
This place, I would not go to again. I leave it to the silvers, enjoy your tea. I will be down the way at David's Tea or Sweet Flour (Excellent tea selection).

This morning, my friend and I gym-ed it at Mt. Pleasant and Davisville. After burning a lot of calories (hopefully anyway), we decided to find a place to eat to reward ourselves.
Cute from the outside, we went inside ready to have delicious pastries. The counter was filled with a variety of pastries, cakes, and cookies. One thing that we noticed was the clientele of the patrons. They were all elderly, which I found interesting because the person closest to our age was probably in their 80's. Service was good; we were seated instantly and the food came right away. The food was quite mediocre. Even I could make most of the dishes and I am by no means at the same caliber as a Wolfgang Puck or a Jamie Oliver.
You can take it or leave it. -

It's a lovely place to stop for a salad and sandwich or even just for a slice of cake and coffee. Very European, good service and quality baked goods. Kind of reminds me of Vienna.
