The bistro was cozy and intimate with impeccable service. The food is out of this world. It is tasty, fragrant, high-quality deliciousness. It is innovative, modern, and perfect.
We found this spot when we got caught in the rain while exploring Nova Scotia and the bistro remains one of our favorite foodie memories of Halifax's many varied wonderful restaurants.
The chef is a proponent of locavorism and the slow food movement. That philosophy is married perfectly with the execution and benefits from the outstanding quality of the produce and seafood.
The menu rotates seasonally; and, in addition, the chef provides daily chef's specials. We tasted a roasted grapefruit and carrot soup that was garnished with mint. It was out of this world. The combination isn't one that immediately comes to mind, but the soup was simply outstanding. So, too, were the ricotta dumplings (similar to ricotta gnocchi) with a mushroom ragout. My friend had an insalata caprese with locally made buffalo mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes with a reduced balsamic vinegar and a tandoori chicken pizza that had him raving for weeks afterwards.
Unfortunately, the bistro is closing on September 1st because there is some uncertainty about the redevelopment of the Historic Waterfront. If you have a chance to eat here, do not pass it up!
