I stayed here last year for a music festival I play at since it's only a short 4 block walk away and I just booked my room again for this year. I was really just looking for a comfortable room at a good price close enough to our performance venue that I wouldn't have to hire a car. What I got was an amazing suite larger than my flat at home with fabulous food and beers as well!

I reserved one of the "Entertainment Suites" directly above the pub, since I was performing at a loud show anyway and knew that even if I managed to get back before the pub closed, I wouldn't be going to sleep right off, so I might as well save a bit of money. This ended up being a really fabulous idea! When I came back Friday night, the band was still playing and the pub was completely packed. I got to hear the band from my room at a comfortable volume, yet completely clear as I was directly above the stage. I also managed to have poutine and a pint brought up to me while I enjoyed the last of the entertainment, without having to fight for a spot at the bar!

If you're looking to get out and experience all that Victoria has to offer, day or night, this place is right in the middle of it all and the prices can't be beat for the exceptional quality. Once the music was finished, my room was surprisingly quiet for being only one level up from a busy downtown street. The wifi was free and stable, the room was clean and comfortable, everything was functional, and we had so much space that our room became the default hang-out spot before the shows started.

It's definitely not the place for a family with children or couples looking for a quiet retreat, but people who enjoy nightlife will not be disappointed.

This hotel is a great deal.  For a low price, you can get a kitchen, dining area, living room area, and two bedrooms.  And it's on two levels!
I love having two levels.  Someone can watch TV downstairs while I sleep upstairs.  Also, while I don't cook, who doesn't like to have a full kitchen to prepare fresh caught seafood.
A wonderful value.  I recommend paying more and getting the two bedroom.
I didn't eat inside the hotel to review the food.

Swans has amazing suites right in the heart of historic downtown Victoria! Just minutes from the Victoria Harbour and all of the nightlife Victoria has to offer. I enjoyed the live music and home brews at the Brewpub and had a very nice dinner at the Bistro.

(3.5 Stars) Not sure why the Brew Pub, Hotel, and Hotel & Brew Pub combined have their own Yelp submissions, so what the heck, I'll post this a few times.

    Specific To The Hotel.

After numerous breakfasts, lunches, beer breaks, and even a dinner at the Brew Pub, last weekend was my first over night stay at the hotel.  Check in was smooth, and the two-roomed suite was clean, airy, and a lot more "modern" than I expected: kitchenette with a few basic appliances, separate dining table, multi-couch common area with a gas fireplace and something called a "VHS player", an outdoor seating patio, and of course two rooms with nominal accommodations.  I was a little surprised to find only one bathroom and no laundry facility, but that was livable.  The common areas were very bright, but the bedrooms were cave like, with the "master" having only a skylight, and the second room a sliver of a window that didn't do much.  For those in need, both the rooms and pub are Wi-Fi enabled, with the password handed out by pretty much any staff member.  The walls seemed to be thick enough that neighbor noise was almost nonexistent, although I don't know how booked they were so maybe there just were not a lot of people.  Front desk staff were always very accommodating and nice, although I was a little displeased with the lack of any formal bag check; no issued ticket when dropped off.  Our room came with a complementary continental breakfast, or something in the neighborhood of $7.50 per person off the total breakfast bill if you chose to go with real food.  Breakfast was OK, nothing to write home about, and they were either a little short handed or our server was slow, as a few times I found it easier to just go get my own coffee refill.

    Specific To The Brew Pub

I've always enjoyed their brews when visiting, and have always made it a point to stop by for a pint or 4.  My party was not disappointed in the brewer's current selections, and between us we had a couple pints of each selection, really liking some, enjoying others, and wondering why in the world we ordered a pint of the pancake-syrup-like berry ale.  As for the lunch / dinner food, it's been better in the past. Flavoring-wise it was OK, but everything seemed a bit overcooked, especially the meats and seafood.  Not "send it back" level, but at a state where if they didn't have such nice beers, I'd probably not seek them out for food.

It's a convenient location to Chinatown and the Harbor, a nicely maintained and overall attractive hotel, and relatively affordable in comparison to other hotels in this specific area.  For a three star hotel, you could do a lot worse.

History

Established in 1988

Swans Hotel was once the Scott & Peden grain & grocery warehouse in the oldest district of Victoria. By the 1980s the area was mostly abandoned and derelict. In 1988, our founder, Michael Williams joined a small handful of urban pioneers to revitalize the area, now known as Old Town. Thus was "Swans" named after the transformation of an ugly duckling into one of Victoria's most beautiful buildings.
