North York, ON
I had an amazing Valentine's Day at the Sutton in 2011, so I give 5 stars to the experience that I had.
We had a King Executive Suite, which has 2 full bathrooms, a separate living room, an amazingly plush yet firm King sized bed, 2 large TV's and chocolate-dipped strawberries on arrival.
Our room was away from the elevators, so we never had any noise issues, although when booking, the hotel representative did note he would make sure we were as far from the elevators as possible.
The hotel itself is definitely an older hotel, but has all the amenities you'd want with the exception of a working pool (I don't know if it's just gone, or maintenance takes over a year to fix it, but there's no pool anymore).
We had dinner included in our package at the Hotel's restaurant called Accents, and the food we had was amazing, although the dining room was a bit too dark for my liking (we were stuck in the far corner).
Amazing service, a lovely hotel, it's definitely not a sleek modern-type hotel, so if that's what you're after, don't look for it here. -

This place is worth checking out if you happen to have a coupon for it (I had one off http://Jaunt.ca). Hotel staff were polite during our low season stay. The pool was still closed. Update: Accents restaurant will be soon be closed for renovations.
I was expecting this place to be a bit more upscale, since that was part of the image that it was boasting. It was a nice enough place, with a large festive Holiday tree in the foyer. In our room, we had only one garbage bin and mainly disposable cups and paper cups were available rather than more than 1 glass cup or mug.
Prices for movies were usually $10.99 and up, depending on which film you wanted to see. There are, however, $4.99 Special films for you to consider.
The place was clean, the King-sized mattress was firm.
If you need access to a fridge, just call the Front Desk. They will actually send someone up with a mini-fridge (at no extra charge, to boot). -

I am not sure if its true, but I heard this place is closing. It was a great hotel, great staff and the food from room service was absolutely delicious. I'd stay here any time.....

It is true what others say, this hotel has probably seen better days and could use a little sprucing, but it was such a wonderful time. The pool is still closed as of this review, and there is no hotel bar. The room was kept very clean by housekeeping and the staff was really nice, even for us Groupon users.
The best part was where it is located, we walked everywhere and our king suite had two showers. -

We played the Priceline hotel lottery game and got the Sutton Place hotel. It's billed as a four star hotel and while the hotel is not the grande dame it used to be -- it comes pretty close. The hotel is elegantly old fashioned with marble entry, funky gold mosaic, and most importantly immaculately clean.
We stayed for four days in July and were pleasantly surprised by the room and the bathroom. We were all smiles and high fives in the afternoon, but come nightfall the incredibly loud and ineffectual air-conditioning fan, as well as the rock-hard bed turned our smiles into frowns. By the second night we figured out that there was cold air coming out of the vent, it was just all being swallowed by up the curtains. My brilliant husband was able to rig a contraption made from a tray and a hanger so that the air was deflected into the room and things were much better after that... I only wish he had been able to MacGyver the bed to make it more comfortable.
On the positive side, throughout our stay the room was kept immaculately, the bathroom was always cleaned and resupplied with fresh towels and toiletries. The pillows were soft and comfortable, even if the bed wasn't. For those with an eco-bent -- a nice touch was the recycling bin and the option to opt out of fresh linens. We never had a problem with sound filtering from other rooms and the shower pressure was good as well as temperature.
The concierges at this place rock! Make sure to take full advantage of the knowledge they have which is quite extensive. They scored us great cheap tickets to Billy Elliot and extremely hard to get reservations at the Corner House for Summerlicious.
The pros: the location of the hotel is hard to beat, just a half a block away from the subway. The neighborhood is full of great places to eat with selections from sushi to afghani, cheap eats and some posher establishments. The hotel does change currency without any fees which was very helpful.
On the negative side: the hotel charges for wifi, parking is expensive and the front desk is pretty unresponsive when called on the phone. If you have any kind of problems it behooves you to go see them in person. They aren't very friendly but they do get things done once you have their attention.
Overall I would recommend the Sutton Place to my friends, based on the location, cleanliness, concierges and price. -

The Sutton Place Hotel is centrally located near the Bloor Street shopping area, Yonge Street, and Church Street. In its heyday it was probably a four star hotel, but it has faded a bit. The hotel is very clean but the furniture in the lobby as well as in the room was older and needs updating. The bed in our room was way too soft and needed to be replaced. The room was very clean but there was no in room refrigerator. There was a large screen HD tv though. One really outstanding feature of the hotel was the maid service. Our room was cleaned quickly, promptly and efficiently during our stay. We went one morning across the street for a coffee when we returned the room was cleaned throughly.
The indoor pool was closed for "emergency repairs" which was disappointing because it would have been nice to take a swim as relief from the heat.
With some upgrading, the Sutton Place could return to its old glory as a true four star hotel. -

Wow! These guys really went out of the way for us.
We stayed here while shooting a film in Toronto. At the last minute, our location dropped out. These guys VOLUNTEERED their hotel ballroom to help us out as we were their guests! Who does that?
After the shoot, we stayed an extra day and relaxed around this gorgeous hotel. It's convenient to U of T, and I wouldn't imagine staying anywhere else when I visit Toronto.
The people who run this hotel are GREAT at what they do!
There's a reason why Steven Spielberg stays her when he visits Toronto.
HIGHLY recommended. -

The Sutton Place Hotel... You've heard of it, you know it's been around for awhile, and then you visit it... The experience?
The Sutton Place is a very quaint hotel located at Bay & Wellesley. The outside is lined with rustic looking black, gas lamps (except I think that the light bulbs are a bit tacky... If you're going to go for authentic, do it right!). The lobby is adorned with a mosaic mural, and is quite gorgeous. I don't know what to think of the weird space-age structured, yet, rustic-fabric-ed chairs opposite the check-in desk.
The decor is actually pretty simple at the Sutton Place, but is simply elegant. The elevators make me feel like I am aboard the Titanic. Goldish in colour.
Unfortunately, the room I booked was via PriceLine, and so I didn't know what I was going to get. I ended up getting a room on what I presume was a smoking floor, because that's all I could smell once I walked out of the elevator. (So avoid the 6th floor!) The room itself was a Double Bed, with a very rustic cottage feel - until you see the not-so-rustic LCD flat screen in the middle of the room. A bit out of place.
I didn't really get to experience any of the amenities so I can't really comment beyond what has been said. -

Markham, ON
I only attended a conference here and did not stay in a room. From my experience during the 2 day conference I can say that this hotel seems mediocre.
The continental breakfast served over two days consisted of the usual, but I really didn't appreciate the lack of food. There were 50+ people and only 2 trays of solid food. There was way more cereal and granola bars than I have ever seen at a continental. It was terrible mostly because they didn't refill the empty trays when the muffins ran out! Brutal.
The coffee was good but wasn't served after lunch until about 3pm. I was dying by then and would have grabbed a coffee on my way in if I had have known this was going to happen. Furthermore, a co-worker wanted a tea after lunch (there wasn't any being served) and ventured into the hotel restaurant which charged him $4 for a small cup of tea. You should get a pot for that price!
Overall, I didn't really like the experience. I wouldn't go to another conference in this building and I wouldn't trust the company that hosted the conference to offer a good venue ever again.
Very disappointed, what a shame. -

Stayed at the Sutton place hotel while in town for the Bears-Bills game at the Rogers Centre. I wish it was a little bit closer to downtown, but the location is still pretty nice. Staff is friendly and attentive.
We were given a room close to the elevator shafts, and the room is not sound proofed at all. The whole night we could hear the elevators whizzing up and down past our 4th floor room. You could also hear noises from the rooms surrounding us, which was not too great.
The bed was super comfortable, and the room had traditional hotel room furnishings that felt a bit dated. We didn't really have a view from our room, no balcony, but everything seemed clean and well kept. The crowd staying at the hotel seemed interesting, but I didn't really interact with any other lodgers. The TV is kind of slow, changing channels and menu-wise.
Internet access was an extra charge, and it's only one device per payment. How prehistoric, especially in an age of burgeoning technology! However, I had to print out a document from the business center, and they let me in for free since I only had to use their computer for a minute or two. I guess that sort of makes up for it, but internet access should be free, or at the very least, much cheaper for any and all devices in one room.
Overall, I had a good night's stay here. It is comfortable, clean, reasonably close to downtown, a little noisy, and a bit overpriced. -

Perfect location and easy to find, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a 4 star hotel. It's a bit old and tired feeling and the underground parking area is just plain freaky.
The room I stayed in smelled like it had been a smoking room. Ontario is smoke free now but the hotel must not have changed out the carpet as there were several burn marks noted in the carpet along with the lingering smell.
I did appreciate the blue recycle bins being available in the rooms. I also liked being only a couple of blocks away from the subway as well as good shopping areas and food. -

I admit it. I'm a Priceline Negotiator addict. Most of the time, I get some sick deals at sweet places like The Palomar or The Intercontinental, but sometimes I get a little greedy and like to see "how low" I can go. On my first business trip to Toronto, I risked it and let's just say it didn't turn up all spades.
My pleasant taxi driver dropped me off at Sutton Place after whisking me past many other lovely looking hotels. To put it mildly, the place looks like it's seen much better days. While everything is clean, it's definitely worn and has an air of, well, your Grandma's house. Dated furniture and feels like it used to have a lot of people roaming the halls who have since moved on.
Saying that, my room was upgraded to a suite with a balcony, though I did have to go through an odd locked hallway (think The Shining. Seriously) to find it all by its lonesome. But they have coffee and tea in-room and a nice large telly but that's it on the amenities.
While overall, my stay thus far has been pleasant I think I'll try some other places to rest my head when I'm next in Toronto. Because let's be honest, who doesn't like to get pampered? Or not feel they might wake up to two creepy twins chanting Red Rum.Listed in: Hotels, Motels and Where to…

RITZ Crackers, but not more ritzy than that. Not quite what it is cracked up to be. Loud guests. Toilets are running continuously, and little help in sight.

Comfy, friendly, quite and clean.
I spent a girls weekend here and had plenty of room to primp before going out (as we girls do at times) with two other ladies in the room with me. -

Outdated old creepy. Three words that sum this place up. I live out of hotels for work year round. Its places like this that make life on the road stink. Everything in this place is ancient. Not one part of the hotel is modern except the tv is new... you have to pay for internet and certainly no free breakfast. Looks like crap on the outside and the other side of the block is strip clubs. My sheets ha hair in them as if they weren't changed. I checked for bed bugs all clear. Expensive even through priceline. Stay away...

Lovely hotel with a lot of history and charm. Staff was friendly and helpful and rooms are pretty spacious, with an old-school bar counter and fridge included. However, our non-smoking room smelled strongly of stale cigarette smoke, and the walls were paper thin such that we could hear the man next door dying (well, hacking and coughing continuously at all hours of the night). It was an okay place to stay at a discounted wedding rate, but for the cigarette smells and unpleasant neighbour, we would probably not stay here again.

What really brought my review down a few notches was the service. Everyone I dealt with, from three interactions with the front desk (the most recent one were I had to ask them for shampoo that wasn't placed in my room...heavy sigh from clerk with a big "let me see if I can find any"), to the annoyed concierge, and crabby security person (letting me into the business center that charges $5 to print a boarding pass), the staff were clearly all rather irritated that a guest was bothering them. What makes this poor, surly service stand out even more is the stark contrast with the otherwise polite and mildly friendly people I encountered everywhere else in Toronto.
Overall, the accommodations were OK. While the room was clean and spacious, the entire hotel looks a bit 'tired'. It needs more than investment in a few flat screen TVs to bring it up to date. I expect to come to Toronto often on business, and will not return to Sutton Place. -

I would say that the Sutton Place Hotel was once a magnificent high rise hotel in downtown Toronto. While the building is outdated, and the lobby may use a touch of work it was still a great hotel for us spring breakers. The location is amazing, we never once took a taxi or public transportation, and yes we walked all over Toronto. Maybe because it was the off season, but the price was incredible, and the room was huge, and very clean. The beds were also incredibly comfortable. My one complaint is the staff. Although, the concierge was helpful with information on attractions and places to go it seemed like everyone was giving us the stink-eye. This is not my impression, but that of our entire group. Every time we entered, and exited the hotel, walked around our floor or worked out in the fairly nice exercise room it seemed as if one of the staff was angrily watching us. Needlessly to say they treated us reasonably well, and accommodated us well. For the money I would stay there again.
