While working in the area, I'd have lunch here at least once a week. The quality of the food was always consistent. Nothing overly exciting or exotic, but they make a good tempura and the fish is always fresh.

Speaking of consistency... so is the service. On quite a few occasions there was something wrong with the order, the bill or dishes not appearing for a long time while others were getting served.

If you're doing lunch, you've got to come early. By 12.30 the place is packed and you might have to wait for a table, though at night I've rarely seen it busy at all.

Also, once a  month they have an all you can eat sushi night. Might be worth checking out, though you'll need to make a reservation.

This was one of the first really authentic Japanese restaurants in the city.  It was here for many years and serviced the business lunch crowd but it has since closed :(  One of the few real Japanese restaurants (both owner, chefs and servers) and closed since the summer of 2010. They used to make the best (IMHO) teriyaki chicken.  On the last Saturday of each month, they used to have an AYCE dinner and was one of the first to offer that but the competition has left it standing still which may have been the reason it shut down (I'm speculating here).  The place has seen a steady decline of customers as it was somewhat pricey too which may have further added to it's demise (more speculation).  I only speculate as the owner mentioned he may be relocating but there was no signage or notice after he closed indicating a new location.  They just closed up perhaps as the lease expired and Terroni has taken over the block (mini-chain of Terroni Italian eateries which I will post my review on as well).  The restaurant that replaced Sushiman in the summer of 2010 is La Bettola. It looks inviting and it will likely be on my to review list once I try it.  Sushi D on College is my current AYCE sushi champ but it is not Japanese owned or operated.
