I was in between appointments, had time to kill and was hungry. I hadn't had sushi in a long time (had a terrible experience in Montreal last month) and remembered stumbling unto SUSHIholic's yelp page a while ago, so I called my beau and asked him to have lunch with me there.
The outside looked like a "hole in the wall" which sorta put me off a bit but the place was packed at a 2pm on a week day... best sign for a good business in my book.
Service was impeccable, the Gomae was out of this world, the sashimi uber fresh and the two rolls we ate: The Red Roll and The Awesome Roll. The were both pretty epic. -

I'll admit it... I had low expectations when I came to SushiHolic. I am VERY picky with my sushi and I also 'judge a book by it's cover' & SushiHolic isn't located in a very fashionable corner of town. However, I was craving Sushi and needed the restaurant to be in the Boundary Rd/Burnaby area of town..... A quick Yelp searched revealed this place, so I cautiously decided to go.
I was VERY VERY VERY pleasantly surprised. The service was fabulous & the rolls were inventive and super fresh. We tried the 'Awesome Roll' (which, really was awesome!), the Volcano Roll and the Prawn/Yam tempura.
The Awesome Roll was a stand out favourite. Loved the shaved, super crunchy yam on top. I've been to a lot of sushi places and have never seen that. Really clever (and tasty!).
The Volcano Roll was also good, though my date wasn't crazy about it because he found it too "mushy". I do agree that it could use something *crunchy* in/on it to add a little dimension to the texture... But I still found it very tasty... and I really liked that it was served with a mound of spicy tuna sashimi. At $14 for a specialty roll *and* a serving of Spicy Tuna Sashimi, I thought it was a good buy.
I'll definitely be back to SushiHolic to try some of their other rolls! -

Are your Awesome rolls that good?
Well, you got a big sign outside claiming you gots them killer Awesome rolls. That's enough to sell me!!!! I love.... just love Awesome rolls!!!
Located right on the corner of Rupert on Broadway. This joint got some parking on the side of the restaurant, but never fear there's plenty of free parking around the area! Very small joint them seems to get packed up right around prime time munchin' time. A cute little red door, that for some reason I thought I might not fit through.... don't worry, I got through fine! Just not used to seeing an entrance that small. A couple of seats on the bar and about a couple less than a dozen tables. Most tables do seat about 4.
We had the Awesome roll (obviously), spider roll, and Saba shioyaki. The food here was pretty good, but Sushi Town is still got the best Awesome Roll. The SUSHIholic' awesome roll lacked the visual wow factor and plus they used some fried garnish instead of benito flakes and no tobiko like Sushi Town.
I did enjoy my meal here, the fact that I didn't have to wait for a table, and they have a TV here to watch the game!!! This are all excellent reason for me to come back here over Sushi Town! and cause SUSHIholic is closer! lol -

Got some more takeout from here the other day and I felt adventurous. I ordered the evergreen roll and the dragon roll. The evergreen roll I did not like - I love vegetables and all...but the mango did not work well for me. The Dragon roll on the other hand... I loved! I'd rate the awesome roll and dragon roll definitely 2 of the top 4 rolls they have.

AWESOME roll.
DRAGON roll.
mMmMm...
and they replayed the canucks game in HD that i missed - great.
free miso soup - it's ok but it's free so no complains.
wild tuna sashimi was fresh but nothing to write home abt.
not a fan of ordering rolls but i'll return to try more.
rule of thumb is: if they live upstairs, they prolly won't muck around with the food since you can always jump upstairs and hide under the bed until they fall asleep and... u know? -

HORRIBLE. Do not go here. I got major food poisoning from this place. I'll be reporting to BBB plus the Fraser Health. DO. NOT. GO. THERE.
The sushi wasn`t that great anyway before I puked everything out. If you want `cheap` sushi then go to Sushi Garden. Or Sushi Town because they were the original "Awesome Roll" anyway. Horrible. Most people who ate there I went that night also got food poisoning. And this is coming from some one who loves restaurants usually. I do not recommend this at all. -
Review from Andrea P.
Awesome sushi, abysmal service. Came here on Friday night in a group of 6, ordered a selection of rolls and then waited... and waited... and waited... half an hour went by and then we noticed a waitress look over with a surprised look on her face and then frantically type our order into their computer system. Okay, so you missed our order, I could have forgiven you, but you did not even come over to acknowledge the wait or offer us anything to keep our growling tummies happy! You did not even offer to refill our teapot (not even once!!!) that was clearly empty (we tilted the lid) and we had to keep asking for refills.
Once the food finally came out another 15 minutes later, the pacing of dishes was very erratic. One person had essentially finished eating their entire meal before I even received my miso soup appetizer. C'mon it's soup, and I know it's just sitting back there in a pot waiting to be ladled.
Lucky for this place, their sushi was good enough to redeem them 3 stars. The Awesome role was fantastic - it has thin crispy yam fries on top and was really tasty. My favourite was the Ebi Mango roll - very fresh, but I'm biased because mango in my sushi was already one of my favourite things. The Red Roll was also very good - it had nice fresh scallops and spicy tuna, and a flavourful hot sauce (which I didn't actually think was that hot but my friend who can't handle spice looked like she might cry).
Anyways, if I was in the area and craving sushi I would probably give this place another shot, but with all the sushi options in Vancouver I wouldn't go out of my way to get there. -

Came here with my boyfriend and his mom and brother on a recommendation from a friend. We were happy to find a tasty sushi place in this neighbourhood!
It was busy (Friday night), but we slipped in just before the dinner rush and seated us quickly. I would recommend making a reservation if you plan to come - even some people who made reservations had to wait once they filled up!
They were also filling tonnes of take out orders, so that will be another option for us next time.
They have a good selection of offerings and we ordered the awesome roll, spicy tuna roll, chicken yakiudon, beef teriyaki, some salmon nigiri, and a few other dishes(?) for a light dinner.
We waited a long while for food and though our tea was only refilled once, the service was very friendly.
Our food came all at once and it was delicious! Everyone was instantly a fan. The yakiudon was not as greasy as other places (including our beloved Zipang and Nao Sushi) and it had a lot of sauce which was a hit and miss for our group.
The beef teriyaki using ground beef was a hit with lots of sauce, a bowl of rice, and a bowl of miso soup.
The standouts for me were the rolls - they were delicious and packed well. We all loved the deep fried shredded yam(?) with the awesome roll. Yumyumyum.
Seating - cramped and packed, but what good small sushi place isn't? We will order take out if we call on this place again since we're in the neighbourhood.
The portions for all of the dishes compared to Sushi Town were smaller for a similar if not higher price, so this was one big drawback. If we had been eating a later dinner/hadn't had a big lunch, it would have gotten fairly expensive to fill all of us up properly.
We've added SUSHIholic to our Tasty Sushi list, but we would still hit up our regular sushi haunts unless we really want to stick close to his 'hood or just need a light snack. -

Even with the abundance of sushi restaurants in the Lower Mainland, I find myself going to SUSHIholic most of the time. I've been there probably around 15 times now and I've never had a bad experience.
Recommendations: If you like Philadelphia Rolls (salmon & cream cheese), try them here. They are simple but by far my favourite. If I'm in the mood for a sunomono, I get the Kani (real crab) which is $5.50. This is real crab and cold noodles in a vinegar base for those who haven't tried it. Really good if you like that sort of thing. I'm not really big into their special rolls only because it starts adding up and we end up racking our bill and not being that full. I like how SUSHIholic has wild (sockeye) salmon as a menu choice. I prefer it over the regular salmon most sushi restaurants have.
There are a couple spots to park in their shared mini lot (I think 3 or 4 usually) but I usually find parking just outside along the street as you can park there after 6. -

I love me some SUSHIholic. I love it so much that I tell everyone about it.
Okay, when you see it and think, "Chelsea, it looks like a hole in the wall with cheesy name." I would tell you I thought the same thing. I went against my superficial judgements and took a dive. My dining partner and I were welcomed with the typical Japanese greeting and were seated.
Service: Top Notch
Food: Awesome (except the Awesome roll, it is a glorified California role). My ultimate favorite is the Volcano Roll, there is a spicy surprise on the inside of the volcano!
Seating: Great. Except I have qualms with this irregularly placed rectangular table.
Go here. Oh and say hello to the turtles at the bonsai store before they move! -

My favourite place for sushi! I've been to so many mediocre & low quality sushi joints in this city, that I was relieved to have found Sushiholic. Don't let the exterior fool you, this place is a hidden gem. Really fresh, great tasting sushi, cheap prices, and friendly staff. Enough said.

You know, I've probably driven by this establishment hundreds of times but never considered stopping by for food. It wasn't until recently that my hunger urged me to random a nearby Japanese restaurant (through my phone) and SUSHIholic was 'winner'.
At first glance, I wouldn't think much of this place since the exterior looks like an old grocery store or strip mall; but, as the old saying goes, never judge a book by its covers. The interior is clean and has, evidently, been recently renovated. The contrasting red and black paint complimented by stylistic and modern decorations fills this restaurant with warmth and welcome.
I've been to SUSHIholic numerous times before and I held back on writing a review since sushi is all about consistency. Following last night's meal, I've concluded that it does deserve the recognition it's earned.
The staff is always friendly and regardless of what I order, it always arrives in a timely manner paired with a very appealing presentation. If you've eaten here before (or having read this review, will soon decide to go), you'd agree with me when I assert that I have never been disappointed with my meal. The food is always consistent and the flavours are such that I never thought were possible with sushi.
If you're all about trying new things, I highly recommend the Japanese fusion of SUSHIholic. In addition, if you find yourself staring at the menu for over 10 minutes, allow me to suggest the 'Awesome Roll' and the 'Las Vegas Roll'. You will not be disappointed. Also for all the vegetarians out there (bless them), there's a vegetarian roll too!
The only negative thing I can say about this restaurant is its location. There's very limited parking behind the restaurant, the front becomes a tow-away zone after 3pm on weekdays but you should be okay along Renfrew if you don't mind walking.
Bon appetit! -

I'm not a huge sushi fan, but I have to say the sushi at SUSHIholic is yummy! The ingredients are very fresh and there is non of the fishy taste that you sometimes get at other sushi places. It is very affordable and 2 people can dine for under $20.
I highly recommend the avocado, beef teriyaki, and their awesome roll. It really is awesome!
The only con is that the service can be a little bit slow at times. -

Delicious!
I recently started working at the Broadway Tech Centre. Luckily there's a gourmet food truck parked there at lunchtime, because if you're not a McDonalds fan, foodie pickings in that area are slim indeed.
I've tried three sushi restaurants within walking distance: two on Renfrew and SUSHIholic on Rupert. The two sushi places on Renfrew had interiors that were ugly, dirty and kind of smelly. Their food was uninspired and indifferently prepared: with rolls tasting like the ingredients had been sitting out all day. No wonder they were mostly devoid of customers.
In contrast, SUSHIholic was nice and clean, and it was obvious some effort had been made toward creating a nice interior.
I grabbed an assortment of rolls for takeaway and I was really impressed by the flavour, presentation, freshness and quality of ingredients.
I am now a big fan of SUSHIholic and will be eating there at least once a week.
***UPDATE***
Hello, my name is Krispian, and I'm now a confirmed sushiholic.
After eating there at least once a week for the past five months, and trying my way around most of their menu, I can confidently say that SUSHIholic is my favourite sushi restaurant by far. The food is consistently great, and the people who work there are super nice.
The only caveat is that they have become a victim of their own success, and are INSANELY busy during lunchtime on weekdays. -

I have since been back to Sushiholics multiple times and I am willing to forgive the Agedashi tofu disaster.
I have since fallen head over heels in love with there vegetable roll! I have also tried some of their other vegetarian rolls and all were great.
My and my coworker needed an escape from the office the other day so off for sushi we went, it was prime lunch hour and we got the last available seat.
They brought us tea right away and off we went chatting up a storm that we didn't realize it was about 4 or 5 minutes before they offered to serve us. We really didn't mind, we had our tea so it's not like they completely ignored us and it was a packed house in there so we weren't expecting to be treated like VIP's. Once we ordered our food came relatively fast and as usual it tastes really fresh and there avocado is always nice and green and absent of brown specs unlike other sushi places.
Also, they have GLITTER CUPS! If they weren't so sweet those cups woulda been going home in my purse, any thing or place that has glitter always gets mad props from me!Listed in: All Stars!, Veta Vita Vegamin, Bites Near Work

"to Die for" is what my friend said about their Las Vegas rolls and I have to agree that is the best damn roll in town, take that to the bank Tojo!
Talking to the owner I found out that they will have a Japanese garden patio complete with a Koi pond courtesy of the Japanese plant store adjacent to Sushiholic. This will only be available for lunch patrons, but I said they could have a special event and have a lantern festival in the garden patio one evening.
I can't wait for them to do this as the weather gets warmer.
Having Sushi in the Garden Patio with the Bonsai trees and Kois, you can't beat that!Listed in: Roll Up the Sushi Vancouver!

Review from Mark D.
Vancouver, BC
This restaurant is new and is not the first sushi joint to sit in this spot on East Broadway. You need to get inside the place to really see how it differs from other business that were here in the past. This is one of the cleanest and friendliest sushi places I've ever been. The staff is really friendly and helpful and the food is not second to this fact.
First of all, it appears there is barely any parking available, but along the side block and in front of the store there are many spots. Just don't be apprehensive. We had a few staple items as I always do my first time to a sushi place. The spicy agedashi tofu, scallop roll and a few of the specialty rolls.
All of our standard tests past with flying colours (these tests gifted to me by a friend); the scallop was really fresh, the agedashi was lightly fried with good texture and the spicy sauce was not just mayo and chilli sauce, but a perfectly spicy and sweet mixture.
The main specialty roll was the Las Vegas roll. Now they were mentioning that it was going to be off the menu soon and after having it I told them no way. They could charge another 2 dollars for this roll and it would be worth it. I should mention that I've never, in my life, enjoyed a deep fried roll, but this was the exception. I've added a picture to show you how great it was. asparagus, cream cheese eel and more; deep fried and topped with fish eggs and crab. All super fresh and super tasty.
Give this place a check-in! -
Review from Eva B.
I wouldn't say that the food at SUSHIholic would force anyone to go to 'sushi's anonymous', but it is pretty good. I went here for lunch last week with a couple friends from work. Our orders consisted of a tempura udon, a tuna donburi and a few rolls. Over all the portions were all huge and the ingredients fresh. The only complaint I heard was about the seaweed in the maki. Apparently it was a little chewy. I guess they need to sort out a moisture issue in the seaweed holder.
If you go here don't expect fine dining, but it is better than your average mom and pop shop. The decor is pleasant, the prices are horrendously affordable (i.e. simple rolls for $2.00 and miso for $1.00!!!), the staff are friendly and fairly quick. I was warned not to tell anyone else from work about this place so take that as an additional sign of approval. -

This is a tiny place in East Van which produces really good sushi. Went there for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and the family tried a number of different dishes. All were very nicely prepared and the ingredients were quite fresh. The Chicken Udon that I had was flavorful with chunks of chicken. My son had the chicken teriyaki dinner and it came on a sizzling platter on beansprouts. The awesome roll was awesome! It came with thinly shredded sweet potato fries on top. The decor is cozy, service was good and the prices are reasonable. Definitely a place I would return to if I'm in the area.

Delicious, very fresh authentic sushi and some interesting, modern rolls (the volcano roll is kinda nuts, but delicious) I'd have given them 5 stars except for underwhelming gyoza-I like them a little less mealy and cabbage-heavy. The service is SUPER- attentive. Sort of random location east of Rupert on Broadway, although there's been plenty of parking on the 3 times we've gone. Sushiholic! Sugoi!!

visiting from WA. driving by and the name caught my eye. decided to try it based on reviews. so good! went on a friday, expect a little bit of a wait, this place is tiny. great sushi, good prices, you must eat here. only complaint, no A/C, but maybe that's a vancouver thing.
