Review from Vincci L.
Exceeding my expectations of a sushi place in a tourist spot, Sushi Village was a pleasant surprise. We came here on a Friday afternoon to a pretty full restaurant. The decor is in the style of your classic Japanese restaurant.
There's lots of selection on their menu-creative rolls as well as your typical sushi. Lots of different types of fresh sashimi, and hot dishes as well.
My food:
Beautiful Roll: a roll topped with avocado and salmon, with scallop in the middle. This was a good roll, a thin layer of avocado and salmon on the top, and a fresh piece of scallop. I felt that it needed some type of sauce though.
Tuna Poke: large chunks of tuna, in a sweet sauce with green onions, and cilantro. Fresh pieces of fish, in a tasty sauce. Would have been better if the fish was more marinated in the fish.
BC Roll: Got to try a piece of this: this was very good-filling provided great texture and the sauce drizzled on top went well with the roll.
Service was overall good, and tea was always refilled.
I would recommend this place when choosing a sushi restaurant in Whistler. -

Thursday night, jan 26, 2012, we decided to get sushi. Well, we should've picked another place. Moses was our server (at least that's the name written on our tab). we ordered 2 unagi-avocado rolls and, of course, waited. waited some more.... then we finally saw our server with our food headed to our table. woohoo! then he stops about 3 tables away and started chatting with another male server. it wasn't a quick chat. I think they were sharing childhood memories and talking about gawd knows what....and chatting while he had our food in front of him catching their spit...YUCK! can't they chat on their break time or after work or at least after dropping off our food? sEriOusLY?!?!?!?!
p.s. sushi is overpriced and the pieces are very small and thin. thanks but no thanks. -
Review from Larry L.
I hear the owner is stuff made from legend. He even has a wall dedicated to his famous fans from movie stars to singers to sports athletes.
It also takes about 4 miles to get to the bathrooms. No kidding. There are mileage signs to show you how far to go.
Now for the food. I've always wanted to try this place. They used to be in Vancouver under another name on Broadway years ago and it seems this place, this location is doing them well.
Let me warn you first. If you are a Japanese food connoiseur (hopefully it's spelled correctly). Then you will either classify this as Japanese food style from the early 80's or as Tourist style.
Hence the reviews that I've read tend to be more touristy. In my opninion.
The sushi, I did enjoy, Whistler prices meant a bit pricier, but it all tasted fresh and the food was seasoned properly.
I did like how they did the BC Roll with a twist. Topped with Tobiko and some sauce to kick it up a bit.
I also had a vegetable roll which was quite good too.
The Chicken Karaage was good too. Meat was marinated and the oil fresh enough for the chicken to be cooked thoroughly and still juicy on the inside and a bit crispy on the outside.
Liked the addition of an orange wedge with it.
Not very popular it seems with the Japanese, but with everyone else, yes. popular.
They seemed to do a solid job with their lunches and the food tasted like they knew they know what they're doing and to be able to do it good.
So overall, I did like this place and I would come back if it warranted it.
Sachi Sushi is still my preferred place to eat Japanese though. -
Review from Todd L.
I would probably give Village Sushi a better rating if it weren't for the absurd wait and the unwarranted hype. Two people on Friday night waited 90 minutes while they served us as much booze as possible. Why the wait? Location is the only thing I can think. It's darn near _at_ the base of the mountain, easy to find and among a high concentration of hotels. My recommendation - head another 400 meters down the village walk to Sachi Sushi, where the ikura is cured in-house and the sushi is prepared by a master and his apprentices. We returned twice in three days it was so good - I'm weird like that.

Review from Luke L.
My snowboard instructor recommended this place for sushi since we were staying at the Hilton. We made our way over at 9pm and the place was packed. For a table for 2, it was a 45 minute wait. We had these saki margs while waiting that were pretty bland. The hiro roll we ordered was pretty tasty. Nothing was really wow about the food, but what would you expect for sushi in the middle of nowhere Canada. If you are in the mood for sushi while on vacation, it's worth a try. Just be prepared to wait and take a pass on the saki margaritas...

Very good, high quality food. Great tempura. Friendly service. Not cheap; figure $70 for a family of four with pre-teen kids.

THE GREATEST SUSHI EVER!!!! And to be completely honest, I'm usually the boyfriend that makes up random stomach ailments to get out of going out to sushi. I'm leery of potential flavor/texture issues...with that being said.
THIS PLACE IS THE GREATEST SUSHI EVER!!!!
We had the Spicy California Roll, great flavor...Chicken Yakitori was delicious with a wonderful teriyaki flavor...but what the roll that truly set this place apart was the Hot Volcano Roll. It was so amazing that after finishing everything, we had to order another, because sushi will possibly never be this life-changing again!!!
Yes, the Hot Volcano Roll was truly that AMAZING!!!!
And the best part for being at Whistler, this was one of the cheapest meals that we ate, $65 for three rolls, miso soup, chicken skewers, two beers and a sake... -

Fantastic sushi restaurant.
I wish they had a location in Florida. -
Review from Sydney L.
This place was good. We called ahead and were told that the wait would be 20-30min, so we were surprised and pleased to be seated pretty much as soon as we walked in. It helps to be a table of only 2.
My husband and I had the vegetable tempura which came to us piping hot and with a light batter, the sashimi salad (awesome sauce/dressing), a volcano roll, and the spicy sushi combo. After tax and tip it was $60 and we left with leftovers!
Try to go on the early side to avoid the main rush. -
Review from Helen G.
One of the better meals in Whistler that we've had so far. Sushi Village gets really busy; we waited a good 40 minutes to be seated. I had the Sushi Teishoku set which included salad (pretty good salad with little shrimp in it), miso soup, tempura sides (2 shrimps + 3 vegetables) and assorted sushi (5 pieces of sushi, 6 pieces of California roll and 2 pieces of vegetable roll). Oh, and you get vanilla ice cream in the end. All that for C$32; I thought it was good value. My husband had the deluxe sushi set and his sushi pieces were way better than mine, in terms of fish selection (11 pieces for C$27). Sushi was really fresh and melt in your mouth; the sushi rice has a bit of sweetness in it which was very appetizing. My son had the tempura udon (C$9)and it was delicious. The broth was light and tasty and my son slurped down the udon in no time even though he said he was not hungry.
We saw a lot of people ordering the daiquiris so must have been good. Even though the waiting line was long, once you sit down, food came pretty fast. The udon actually took quite a bit longer than our sushi. Service was efficient and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place in Whistler. -

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! And the best part is THEY DELIVER! So when you are drunk and stumble back to your hotel room after being on in the freezing cold and are HUNGRY. This place is CLUTCH. They did take about 30 minutes+ to delivery but then again we ordered like 4 togo boxes worth of sushi....hehe

Review from John K.
Found right by the gondola's for Whistler and Blackcomb it's got a great location. Normally when you see a restaurant like this, you think it's going to be overpriced and you'll probably leave the place a lot lighter in the wallet and still full in the stomach, but I was pleasantly wrong.
Sushi is quite good and the prices are pretty good for a sushi place. You can easily get a decent sized meal for about $20.
I don't recommend their fried tofu. And if you want to be a big spender, I would recommend the Double Hawaiian Roll. It was delish! -
Review from Aimee C.
Yes, there will be a wait. There aren't that many good places to eat in Whistler, and this is one of the very few, so get a beer at the bar and settle in. They usually overestimate the wait anyhow.
Spinach gomae is full of sesame goodness, the Super Hiro roll is beloved by the staff for good reason (creamy avocado on tuna). The food is fresh, the sake collection is decent, the staff couldn't possibly be nicer. We never miss a trip to Sushi Village when we come to Whistler. You shouldn't either! -
Review from Jeff M.
With so many restaurants to choose from in Whistler, we took a Yelp leap and chose Sushi Village. After a great day of skiing, this place hit the spot.
We arrived for an early dinner (6) and were promptly seated without having a reservation. Our server was friendly and provided great service. She seemed surprised and impressed when I chose some things on own (an excellent way to flatter your customers).
The miso was delicate and not too salty, a nice start.
We chose the Chef's Choice Nigiri plate which included a nice selection of sushi including the, hands down best Maguru Tuna I have had at a sushi place in memory. It was "melt in your mouth" good (like buttah)! We ended up ordering two more pieces later....and we probably could have ordered more!.
I guess I have been going to too many tame and American sushi places, as I was really surprised by the amount of wasabi in the sushi. It kept surprising me! I am so used to virtually no wasabi in my sushi, then dipping them in heavily wasabi fortified soy sauce. Here I was getting a double whammy. That's okay, I still loved it!
We also ordered the Mango Avocado roll and it was amazing. A house special, this roll provided a great combination of textures and flavors. Wits always fun to experience these differences combined into a sushi roll.
So enjoyable, I'll mention it again, the service was excellent and really left us with smiles on our faces.
Now the only decision is if we will return today for lunch?!? -

Great food! It was fun to sit at the "pit" table I guess I'll call it, for lack of a proper word.

Solid 5, if not more! We chose Sushi Village based upon other yelps and the recommendation of our hotel concierge. I extend 5 stars based on the following:
+1: we called in advance and ask if reservations were necessary - no, please join us was the polite response at the other end of the cord.
+1: we were pleasantly greeted by two hostesses; we asked to sit at the sushi bar - "certainly, sir, with pleasure".
+1: our server was Dan (from Eastern Canada). Bravo....you kept us satiated and satisfied. Dan advised that we could 'call' our particular orders directly to the Chef, behind the counter. We did so. We were amazed!
+1: The Chef is MARVELOUS, if not simply a mirraculate (spelling, sorry) genius. Presentations are done with precision and great care. We did not take our eyes off of him! We ordered seconds!
+1: Apart from previous yelps we agreed that our portions and presentation and satisfaction exceeded any consideration to prices. In fact (for the 2 of us, including several TALL hot saki's), we were pleased to pay our bill at less than $25.00 pp.
If ever we are blessed to return to Whistler - Sushi Village may/could become our nightly haunt.
Go. And then write your yelp of equal positiveness. Hopefully. :) -

You foodies know that stage of nirvana that you attain for brief seconds when you've got something delicious in your mouth and you close your eyes and just savor it?
That will happen when you eat Sushi Village's sushi. Every piece of fish was fresh and prime. All of our Japanese friends said that their dishes and drinks were authentic and delicious.
From the friendly Japanese sushi chefs saying hello as we passed to our tatami, semi-private party room, the Japanese drinks to everything that passed through our lips, we all felt like we were back in Japan.
This place is GREAT! -
Review from Nela D.
We loved this place. Food was great (we had a mix of sashimi, rolls, and cooked food), nice vibe, and service was very good too. Prices were reasonable given it is located in the Village. Comfortable area for waiting for a table and having a beer after a long day of mountain biking!

I came to Sushi Village to celebrate a friends' 30th birthday. I ordered the chicken teriyaki (because I do NOT like sushi), which was a grilled tender chicken breast with teriyaki sauce. I ordered the "complete dinner" which came with miso soup, a small green salad with baby shrimp, and it was supposed to also come with vanilla ice cream, but did not. My friends ordered sushi and they loved it! I think this place is pretty good, but again, I do not eat sushi. A tourist spot located in the village and close to other shops and skiing.

Review from Princey W.
Amazing quality sushi, especially considering the restaurant is located in a tourist trap location. Fish was fresh and very tasty. Cooked food was well-prepared. Wide range of options on the menu of both sushi/sashimi/rolls and cooked food.
I found the service to be good (constant refill on water/tea, waitress was friendly and available when needed), but you do feel a bit "herded" / rushed to make room for the long line of people waiting in the entrance area.
Be sure to make a reservation (or put your name in earlier), or be prepared for a loooong wait. -
Review from Yee Gan O.
Best ski resort in north America? Whistler/Blackcomb. Freshest tasting food on the west coast? Japanese. Combine the 2 and you get Sushi Village!
Add to that the convenient location and you have a winner. Located a short walk from the ski base of Whistler mountain, Sushi Village offers a great place to get some top class Japanese food. As with most places in north America, my tip to you is to eat your more expensive meals at lunchtime where you will get the same food for much cheaper.
It's definitely worth returning to the base of Whistler for the lunch menu here. I tend to go for the bento boxes as they offer a range of different dishes. Makunouchi Lunch Box A is my favourite with tempura, sashimi, chicke karaage and beef teriyaki served with hot miso soup (yum on a cold day!), boiled rice, pickles and a daily special.
I think some of my happiest times have been spent here with a full stomach and an afternoon to look forward to, playing in the fresh powder and snow parks! -
Review from Bora K.
After surveying all our options for dinner (sans cover charge) on New Year's Eve, Sushi Village seemed to be our best bet in terms of wait and food so we decided to eat dinner there after having drinks at the Mix.
Sushi Village is what it is. The food isn't mind blowing or anything but that's not really what you should be expecting from a sushi restaurant at a ski resort any way. However, the fish is fresh, the service is fair, and it's a nice place to relax and unwind.
We ordered a variety of Nigiri and something called the Beautiful Roll. Everything was fine but I especially liked the salmon. The hue of the local Sockeye salmon is so red it almost looks like Maguro at first glance. Everywhere we went in Whistler, it was on the menu and tasted as fresh as could be. The Beautiful Roll too, was quite good. It's a roll stuffed with fresh scallop and topped with Sockeye salmon and avocado. It had a very clean taste and we both enjoyed it.
Whistler definitely has a lot of variety in terms of dining but Sushi Village met our needs and met them well so the four stars are well deserved.Listed in: Good times in Whistler, BC

Didn't think a place like this would exist in Whistler. Very cute and pretty decent.
The salmon skin salad was pretty delicious. The salmon skins were more salmon meat than skin and not super crispy, which made it better than others I've had. Bunches of greens and some radishes too. The salmon nigiri was super fresh. Could probably be that salmon hatchery sign we saw on the way up to Whistler. The tamago was pretty big and tasty. The miso soup was pretty normal. And the hero roll had good spicy tuna.
I give it a thumbs up.Listed in: One fish, two fish, Canuck

Although Pricey, Sushi Nillage is the *nicest* place for sushi in the village. Across from the base of Whister, Sushi Village's decor is a hybrid of western and eastern. For larger parties there are tables in back that almost look like tradition Japanese tables (more platforms) that require you to take off your shoes but once you are seated find that there is room under the table to sit western style. There's probably a better way to word that, but it's just not coming to me right now.
The best part of Sushi Village is there sake margarita. So good. Very, very potent. My friend who can drink everyone else under the table was blitzed after one jug.
Are there *better* places to go in Whistler for sushi? Yes. Are there *nicer* places to go for sushi? Na-ah.Listed in: Whistler Eats

They get 5 stars here for giving locals a discount during the Olympic games... Most all restaurants in Whistler have jacked their prices up by 20% just for the games (as they did here).. but Sushi Village give it back to the locals with a local discount.

A great sushi place in Whistler! This is the first and only time that I have seen and tried "box sushi". It was incredible, it didn't have any seaweed or soy paper. I've asked about it since at various places around North America and no one seems to know what I'm talking about.
The fish is so fresh and the different types of sushi are delicious!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Review from Brenda R.
My husband and I went here for dinner since we were craving sushi. There was maybe a 10 minute wait but it wasn't bad. They had a seating area for people waiting, which was nice.
For appetizer, we ordered a sweet potato tempura. Some of the sushi we ordered are spicy california roll, una-avo roll (which is unagi with avocado), hamachi nigiri, crunchy smoked salmon roll (which had cucumber and mango), and the spicy beautiful tempura (avocado, salmon, and ebi tempura in the middle). The sushi was pretty good and most of the raw sushi that we had were pretty fresh. We also ordered a complete dinner of the salmon teriyaki and the dinner came with vegetables, miso soup, salad, and ice cream. The only thing that I wasn't used to was that the dinner did not come with rice and we had to order it separately.
The service was pretty good and fast. The music they had on was 90's hip hop which was a big plus. I wasn't a big fan of the price but then again it's in Whistler and the restaurants are expected to be pricey. -

Let me say up front that I don't eat fish.
I came to Sushi Village with a group of friends for a bachelorette (or "stagette" as they say in Canada, apparently) party, and the bride-to-be enjoys sushi, so this was on our itinerary.
The fish-eaters really enjoyed the sushi, and my spicy avocado roll was yum. I liked the little "room" we ate in - very cute.
We had a reservation and were seated promptly, but I overheard one group that was 10 minutes late for theirs being told that the restaurant thought they weren't coming and that their table had been given away.
Yikes. -
Review from Heather N.
It felt so strange eating sushi at Whistler, that we walked around for an hour checking out other places heading back here.
We had to wait in the bar for 30 mins-everyone had sake margaritas. We had cold unfiltered sake. The wall on the hallway to the bathroom (which is about a mile away, so if you are wasted, good luck finding your way back) is lined with autographs. I saw one from Wally from leave it to Beaver. This place reminded me of somewhere that cokeheads and partiers hung out in back in the day-it opened in 85.
I was pretty skeptical, but the fish really was superfresh and wonderful. The other food, not so much. Gomae was dry. The chicken teriyaki came in a giant slab of chicken breast. Good but have never seen it not in strips.
Our server was fantastic, I even commented to the manager about her. -

"Sushi Village" - the name screams "Japanese food wanna-be" but I was dead wrong (and I'm very glad to be wrong this time!).
Everywhere else was rather quiet but not this place. It was PACKED! We sat at the sushi bar and observed the food people ordered around us... they look legit but they were mostly colorful nice looking rolls so we couldn't really tell if they actually serve decent fish or not. I ordered a nabeyaki udon just to be on the safe side - it was good! The broth was not loaded with hondashi (bonita broth seasoning) like other places. Mr. S ordered some ikura, uni, natto maki with shiso (fermented soy bean cut roll) and hamachi sashimi... WHOA!!! They were all very very fresh... Y-U-M-M-Y!! They gave us the belly cut of the hamachi and it was incredible. The sushi chefs were pretty funny...
People can get roudy there, especially the private dining areas. It's all good fun with some sake, beer, sake bombs! "You say 'sake' I say 'bomb', SAKE-BOMB SAKE-BOMB"!!! lol Ok, a little carried away here.
A couple sitting next to us were native Canadians and we got them to try the natto maki. The guy was pretty adventureous and bravo for trying smelling fermented bean rolls! They ended up buying us a hot sake as they leave... if you're reading this - THANK YOU again!! :)
Definitely will get more of this goodness when we head back again next time! -
Review from Alysha P.
Some of the best sushi I've had in a while!
Came in during the Olympics.....had to wait for a table of course.....but no problem.....we just ordered some sake and lounged on the comfy couches in the front room. When we did get seated, they gave us our own little Japanese style room with a low table and cushions....loved it!! You do have to take off your shoes to sit here.....so be warned....no holey socks :)
The run-down:
Pork Gyoza: Good but not great
Spicy Garlic Beef: Sooooo yummy....def order again!
Mixed Tempura Basket: I'm not a huge tempura fan....but I did go for one of the shrimp and it was a perfect example of tempura done right....light and crispy...not too oily.
Toro Nigiri: Fresh and buttery good....I could have eaten this all night!
Double Hawaiian Roll: Liked but didn't love....the boys did though....I think there was too much going on for me.
Spicy Tuna Roll: I love spicy tuna rolls...esp. when they're done correctly......they were here....def order!
Negitoro Roll: Fresh and clean....another winner
...and a couple of others I don't remember.....due to much sake consumption
Service was spot-on....our waitress made sure we had everything we needed but wasn't annoying...perfect!
Overall....delicious fresh sushi.....I would make a point of it to come here again when I'm in town! -
Review from Jennifer W.
This place was poppin on my last night in Whistler (a Thursday). Luckily, my friend & I only had to wait a few minutes for a table. We ordered the Nabeyaki noodles, salmon teriyaki, SASSs roll, tempura and sake margaritas. Prices were comparable to other sushi joints in the area, service was fine and the food was OK.
Nothing really special stood out about this place, but it satisfied our Japanese craving. -
Review from Betty Y.
Still here in Whistler but thought that I'd post some reviews while its still fresh in my mind.
We came here last night for dinner and luckily got 2 seats at the bar. There was a crowd of people who showed up around 15-20mins after we sat down.
We ordered a bunch of sushi from the chef after we asked what was recommended.
Salmon - of course was delicious
Hamachi - fresh and good
Tuna - not what we were accustomed to because it was a light color, but still ok
Tobiko McGuire roll - spider roll and some tuna with egg - good
Negihama - good
Hawaiian Tuna - bright red, firm and just how we know it in CA
Salmon Skin hand roll - not as crispy as expected. Not a winner
Plain Udon soup to fill up the bellies - goood and warm
I know that I am spoiled with sushi options in LA, but I would say that if I wanted to eat sushi in Whistler, I'd certainly come back here. -
Review from Selena B.
I've eaten here a few times and have experienced good service each time. Their staff are polite, well trained and efficient.
As for the food, its a mix. Some of the stuff is good while some of the dishes are worse that what I can make at home. The sushi is decent, and the Udons pleasing, its the hot kitchen dishes that are more of the hit and misses. -

Great sushi. Place is always busy and as someone mentioned, there is ample seating for waiters. There were some new rolls for us to try - and the men in our group loved that there were lots of spicy dishes with jalapenos. Didn't try the sake, but there was a large selection.

When in Whistler and wantin' some sushi, then this would be a highly recommended stop for you...good for, nice place and usually very friendly staff...it can get busy and people are a little more blunt at those times, understandable.
