I wish wish wish this place was in Seattle. We came twice, and though service was slow (there was a table of 13 of us), every dish came out BEAUTIFULLY presented and exactly right. The fish was all very fresh (go with Chef's choice - always the best fish that way!), and I was SUPER impressed. On top of everything else, it was WAY affordable! If this place was in Seattle, I would eat here every single day. No, seriously. I mean it.

Well - This place is close to the hotel and I've walked by it a number of times and unfortunately will not be a repeat customer.

I was the only customer (always a bad sign & I should have known better), I placed my order and they were very nice, and were quick at preparing the food.

I took the take out back to the hotel and did not enjoy it. I had vegetable tempura which was very greasy and not very flavourful at all. I also had a salmon roll - didn't smell very good and I had one bit and no more.....sooooo not my kinda place !

Good lunch stop or take away but no place to dine with a date or when the sun goes down.

Warm but thin atmosphere. Perfect for lunch in or take away. Room for only 26 in and 2 out. Very friendly server.
Noon in Friday found one other person dining. By 12:15 we were all full up. Good for you Sushi Star. You have your following.

Music was up beat but loud. It did drown out the street noise.
Golden Bridge Roll- surprisingly good and different. I would definitely suggest this one kids.
Assorted sashimi- mmmm. Not so much. Thin and on the warm side of cold.

Stick with the rolls here, unfortunately and come in for lunch. You will not be alone. If I'm hungry and walking past, I will stop in not make a B line to eat here again.

I picked up some take out from here tonight since I've passed by it so many times. The place has a really great atmosphere inside, despite the fact that it's in a part of downtown that might not get as much foot traffic. The waitress was extremely nice in helping me pick out my order, and offered me some of the better green teas I've had in Vancouver.

I'm a sucker for specialty rolls, so I ended up ordering a tropical roll (chopped scallop roll with mango & avocado on top), a golden bridge roll (baked chopped scallop on california roll with masago), and a super star roll (salmon, prawn, yam, veggie with tobiko and signature sauce on top). I also ordered a seaweed salad - which turned out to be a lot smaller than the container it was in, slightly disappointed.

The best of the three I ordered: the golden bridge roll. For 9.50, it was absolutely delicious, heated just right and very flavourful! I will definitely order this one again! The super star roll (6.95) was my second favourite, although I learned the hard way that the chef's signature sauce is really spicy. Really tasty, but really spicy. I had high hopes for the tropical roll (8.95), but it was pretty bland and seemed like a regular chopped scallop roll with avocados added to the mix. The mango didn't really add any additional flavour, it was far less exciting than the golden bridge roll.

All in all, I will head back to this place again as there are still a lot of specialty rolls I'd like to try. They also have the straightforward lunch boxes and sushi combos at a decent price.

If you enjoy the feeling of having grease line your lips and your insides for hours after eating by all means check it out. Tried it once and that was all it took to boycott the place. Yuck!!!

This place is the best place for regular sushi in the neighborhood. I've ordered from there quite a bit as I work nearby. The decor is pretty nice and clean, although definitely not super fancy. The servers are really nice, and the best part, the prices are pretty cheap, especially for downtown.

The sushi rolls are really great! They also have fabulous combos. They have a great selection of things and if you want take out, they are pretty fast with that. The sashimi is of pretty regular quality for downtown, I think the rolls and Teriyaki are where they really shine.  The portions are big but not too big so it's really good value. I've been to all of the sushi restaurants within a 4 block radius of this one, and this one is my absolute favorite.

A nice little place in the middle of the entertainment district.  The place has a nice utilitarian atmosphere, tasty food, and good service.

    All the standards nicely presented

Slow service & can't even fill a glass of water to the top of a small ass cup. Try waiting forty five minutes for a seven piece nigiri. There are plenty of other spots in a small radius. Four thumbs down

This is my sushi restaurant of choice in the downtown area.  Many of the other places I tried since I moved here are either too expensive, or if they're cheap, I question the quality of the fish.

Sushi Star is GREAT!  The staff is always friendly and quick, takeout only takes about 15 minutes, and the restaurant is nice and clean, unlike some other places in the area.

My boyfriend and I have tried quite a few of the menu items, and everything has been delicious so far.  Last night we tried the Fantastic Roll for the first time, with salmon, mango, cream cheese and avocado laid on top, with some mango/citrus flavoured sauce on top, and it was definitely fantastic!  We ate seaweed salad, miso soup, edamame, spicy tuna roll and the fantastic roll, all for only $21.  It was great all around.  My boyfriend has been wary of sushi in the past, and this is the place that has sold him. Finally some none chewy sushi at a good price!

I've eaten here twice in the last two weeks - once as dine in around 1pm on a week day, and once as take out. I really love the food, and think the selection is great. I think they have the best sweet potato tempura roll in the city - it's not a tiny little nothing like you get at so many places! Their specialty roles are also delicious - and they have a great variety in my opinion. The only thing to note is if you want to do take out over lunch time, order before noon. I ordered at 11:50am and got mine by noon, but have friends who ordered just after noon and (understandably) had to wait quite a while because they get busy!
