I ordered delivery from Sushi Shop the other day and it came pretty quick (half an hour after I placed the order). I ordered the Lunch F, which is a choice between salmon sashimi or a salmon avocado chirashi. I opted for the salmon avocado chirashi and for $14.95, it also came with a choice of salad (I got the cucumber dill salad) and a miso soup or rice. I got the miso soup since the chirashi is a rice platter.  I also got a spicy tuna roll.

Everything was very neatly packaged and pretty impressive.  The wasabi packet was grated wasabi - something you don't see very often in these parts.  The miso soup tasted just like my mom's with a hint of rice wine and was pretty damn good.  It was a pretty good sized portion, too.  The cucumber dill salad was refreshing but I thought it was a little bland. I added a little kosher salt and it tasted better to me. The spicy tuna roll was standard, nothing special, and it tasted good.  The salmon avocado chirashi was very pretty to look at and it was fresh and good.

The total bill came out to be around $25 which is a very pricey lunch for me.  It's better than other sushi takeout places and it's definitely not excellent sushi but it's pretty decent.  I would go back here to get sushi if I'm too lazy to pick up some from Katagiri (where I usually get my sushi fix)

Someone from the restaurant called to ask me if I wanted the sashimi platter or the chirashi (since Seamless Web failed to let me put what I wanted) within five minutes after I placed the order.  It sounded very busy and crowded at the restaurant so I'm not sure what it's like during the lunch hour at the restaurant.  It sounds busy so that's a good sign!

I was content and full after my meal.  I would definitely go back to try the other stuff on the menu, which looks great!

As soon as we walked in for lunch, we were greeted by a staff member who explained how the lunch specials worked and was eager to answer any questions.  I must say, they have a pretty good variety of Sushi rolls.  It reminds me of YUSHI sushi.

The prices were a bit expensive...my lunch was over $16 and I got 3 (6 pcs) sushi rolls, a small miso soup and a side of cucumber salad.  I have to agree with all the reviews: the food looks a lot better than it tastes.  They are all about presentation.  The menu outside really blew me away but I had to lower my expectations after reading the mediocre reviews.

I tried the combo that had spicy tuna, crab and salmon along with the miso soup and salad.  Overall, the sushi was okay but nothing worth the price tag.  It was nice that they offered seating and were friendly but not sure I would be jumping out of my seat to go back.

In Paris, there are many of these delightful little shops. Now there is also one in New York.

This is not sushi as we know it, but rather a chic, French interpretation. All of the usual suspects remain on the menu, but redesigned and better looking. There are also very French influenced pieces (par exemple a roll with foie gras, fig and nuts).

it is essentially a fast food restaurant, but with good food and impeccable service.

I highly recommend it for lunch.

    p.s.  They also deliver!

Went here with a group for dinner and called ahead for reservations. They told me none were needed and to walk right in. They were right. The place was almost empty when or group of 8 were seated and did not get much busier while we were there. The sushi was not cheap but it was reasonably fresh. They also have some cool combinations with the rolls. The ambiance was OK but the service was not that great. Had to remind the waiters to keep bringing out the drinks that we ordered. If I'm going to spend a lot on sushi, I might as well go to a high end place.

This is one of the fanciest and priciest sushi take-out places...The interior seems really nice and the menu has some unique pieces that you won't find in your hole-in-the-wall sushi joints; however, you will pay the price, literally. For the money spent, I expected decent quality fish...Everything was plated nicely and presented well, but the actual food was meh. My other gripe is with the shaved-head Neo-Nazi behind the counter. He has the worst attitude in the world. Avoid him at all costs. Actually, avoid this place as well as it seems like a tourist trap for rich Europeans on holiday in the city.

Midtown East hype comes with upscale and social status in the trendy black and white decorum that is nontraditional Asian colors.  Lunch time was go-bankrupt time at Sushi Shop for menu A consisting: 6 pcs California Rolls, 6 pcs Salmon Avocado Rolls, 6 pcs Spicy Tuna Maki Rolls at $14.95 with complimentary Cucumber salad and Miso soup, drink not included.  Quality of my sushi rolls were MEH by French Chef, Jean François Piège, for extreme overpriced and upscale presentation on high quality cardboard boxes to fend off the illusion of high quality and upscale sushi not on bone china nor authentic bamboo mats.  Sushi by French Chef, Jean François Piège, puts a spin on Asian Fusion for over-priced Avant-garde Japanese sushi = MEH!

    Illusions
    Falsify hope
    A glaze look
    Like a reflective revealing daydream

No business cards are available of Sushi Shop, but a large bulky takeout menu booklet is substituted.  Seating is ample for either lunch or dinner.  Staff is like a standing lame duck army waiting to service patrons as a few are fluent in French upon entering when greeting.  Delivery bicycles lineup outside ready to take flight serving orders to clients.  Reginald, the associate who rang me at the register sold me menu A and stated a complimentary Cucumber salad with a choice of Miso soup or white rice is included...  Okay COOL!!  Onwards, Reginald kept pointing aimlessly to infinity beyond oblivious to white rice or Miso soup without specific directions as he appears to be lazy unable to remove his body from behind the register where I was the only patron on line.

    Disillusion me at full capacity
    Unable to appease

For the past few months I have walked by the Sushi Shop as construction was underway. Imagine how pleased I was to discover that it was finally open AND the menu featured an array of delectable cuts.

The menu, reads like an art catalog featuring choice cuts on grey slate, exuding a look of contemporary cool that quite frankly I do not associate with sushi spots.
    I was hooked!

    Until I tried it....

    I was DUPED!

The decor embodies Manhattan; clean lines, dark colors, minimalism.
However, they should have put more focus on their fish vendor than their interior designer.

The cuts were lackluster, my boyfriend actually commented that it tasted like        "Stop and Shop" which really hammers the message home- why does a Midtown sushi spot taste like suburban grocery store sushi? At least at Stop and Shop they have the good nature to give a healthy amount of pickled ginger instead of the pre-packaged ginger/ wasabi condiments that I found in my to go bag.

The spicy tuna resembled...I don't know, what is a descriptive term for oatmeal...Oatmealy?? It was discolored, lacked a bright red hue, the mayo it was mixed with seemed aged.. Ugh just thinking about it makes me hostile.

My recommendation- burn it down and start from scratch. Rise from the ashes like a mighty phoenix and be great. Incorporate Fuji apples with salmon, sear tuna with Ponzu glaze, sprinkled with black sesame seeds.
Stop adding jalapeno to everything just for the hell of it....

Sushi Shop- you have been put on notice, up your game! The rent is too high in this area to think that subpar meals will cut it.

I work around the area and was happy to see this pretty little sushi shop pop up in my neck of the woods. It is very fresh and convenient in relation to where I work. It is a little on the pricey side and since it is newly open they have a couple of kinks to work out in terms of service, but even with the slow service everyone is very accommodating and polite.

With that being said my review is solely based on the food. I had the passion roll, goat cheese and sun-dried tomato roll and the spicy salmon hand roll. All of the rolls were delicious and I highly recommend the passion roll and the goat cheese and sun-dried tomato roll. The spicy salmon hand roll was good, but a tad bland side for my taste and like all hand rolls a little hard to eat.

I will defiantly come back to sushi shop they have many other inventive appetizing rolls I will love to try. If you are stuck in midtown and craving fresh sushi try Sushi Shop.

I went to Sushi Shop last Friday night for dinner. I work right across the street and was thrilled to see a sushi place (that delivers!) pop up where Burger Heaven used to be. I got there about 5:15pm and it was fairly empty. They seemed a little disorganized...I think they were in the middle of their server shift meeting...but everyone was friendly. Our first waitress was very, very green and seemed unfamiliar with the menu which wasn't surprising since the restaurant just opened. But I could tell she was really trying so that was fine. As the meal progressed, another (British) waitress picked us up and she was awesome. Super friendly and attentive and seemed to be much more comfortable and knew what she was doing.

    We ordered:
Thai-style Roll - This was excellent. The crushed peanuts were a nice touch.
Fried Chicken Roll - Yes, I know this isn't real sushi but it was intriguing. And delicious.
Yellowtail Jalapeno Maki Roll - This was my favorite. Little kick to it but not too much of a burn.
Mailbu Roll - This was pretty good though the dill isn't a flavor I usually associate with sushi...and the olive seemed to be missing. But still yummy.
Passion Roll - This one was just okay. The spicy sauce wasn't really spicy, a little bland, actually.
Spicy Salmon Spring Roll - This one was just okay, too. Not bad by any means, but not amazing. Same issue as the Passion Roll...spicy sauce was kinda bland.

For dessert we had the vanilla and mango mochi which were delicious.

Overall, this place was very good, the fish was fresh, and I'll definitely go back...many times, seeing as it's literally just steps from my office. I can't wait to try their sushi and sashimi as well as some of their appetizers.

    Sleek, modern, classy look.

I only sampled a couple of their rolls and the spicy salmon roll was the tastiest.

There menu boasts a pretty large variety of rolls that all looked delicious along with tartars nigiri, temaki, and kaisendon.

Being on Madison ave the menu prices are a little high for me.

The owners are very friendly great people!!

The most interesting thing about this place for me was the menu. The front of it has a photo of sushi shaped as a butterfly. Some interesting rolls, and pieces... but nothing so special in my opinion. I went for dinner tho, and if this was a place that was around my office, I would probably stop in for lunch from time to time.

Well. We ate here last night 7 of us. 1 of us is French and has eatten at this chain in France so we figured let's give the American location a go. FOOD A+ Service D-. Pray to God you don't get a waitress with a British accent because she simply must hate her job. Most of us were there by 8pm and awaited 1 friend whom arrived 15 minutes later and in waiting we ordered a bottle of wine and appetizers. If there are 6 people at a table and you order a bottle of wine common sense would say bring 6 glasses - no? Well we got 3, and upon asking for more it took at least 20 minutes - this set the tone for the entire evening. Basically we got things such as our food, another bottle of wine etc and necessary things such as napkins, plates, chop sticks 15-20 minutes after whatever we needed it for arrived to our table. As we were up stairs and towards the back perhaps we were unnoticed but the restaurant wasn't packed so they're really was no excuse for poor service. We were there for 3 hours are RARELY were we asked if we needed anything - we constantly had to flag someone down and our server was constantly MIA. At least the quality of the food was stellar because for the service we received was terrible.

    Items we ate included:
    Tuna Tartare Facon Rossini
    Salmon Tartare - phenomenal
Mango Tango - Delish - highly recommend
Soba Fish Salad - we ordered 2 and devoured both
    Mix Chirashi
    Tabolue Roll
    Tuna Cucumber Dill Roll
    Salmon Gravlax
    Malibu Roll
    California Roll
    Tuna Cucumber Roll

DO NOT pass on dessert! The one uniquely delightful pairing of sushi and French influence is their amazing desserts!
The almond green tea cake is simply dellcious as were the macarrons they have custom made - simply the best I've EVER had in NYC.

Should they perhaps train their severs better or just get a new staff I'd be pleased to dine in again; until then I'll be ordering to go.

Their grand menu that I found in my coworkers lunch menu stash drew me in! It's a beautiful booklet full of Sushi and I thought I hit the jackpot -I was wrong. Overpriced just OK Sushi is what I got. It's a stylish spot and very enticing, however that's about it. I was looking forward to loving this place, in fact I want my money back now that I really think about it!

I never posted a review on Yelp, but this was just awful and I had to. Anybody that knows sushi will know this is ridiculously poor quality and overpriced. Yelp should have a section where each reviewer has to list other restaurants of similar kinds to give the readers an idea of what kind of "foodie" taste level theyre dealing with.

In any case, the rice on ALL 5 rolls we ordered were mushy and gross, and the fish was definitely not fresh. I've been everywhere from Sushi of Gari, Sasabune, Blue Ribbon and they're all pretty consistent and good. for cheaper spots - Marumi is great. I'm even ok with most quick takeout sushi spots for basic rolls, but this has to be hands down the worst place I've ever tried.

I ordered the Spice It platter and my friend ordered a few other rolls. Maybe other things are better but I doubt it. I've never had rice that was soft and mushy, almost watery on a roll before,.. and I can't imagine the other sushi items to be good as the fish is definitely not fresh.  With the amount of money they invest in decor and their "catalog" or menu, they should invest in better quality of food. The price is absurd for what you're getting.... BUYER BEWARE!

    One word: awesome!
The sushi is amazing and very fresh. Everything is very nicely presented and is very very fresh which is the most important thing for sushi... Everybody is very nice and do their best to serve guests with a smile. Knowing they just opened, they are very open to criticism in order to improve themselves. There are times when you wait a bit longer than usual, but obviously that 's pretty common for a new opening.
A few of my colleagues ordered the next day and everybody agreed on the top quality of the sushi...

That's definitely my new favorite place for sushi. Definitely worth giving it a try!!

Great night out with girlfriends!  We shared a few bottles of pinot grigio, some edamame and a bunch of various rolls.  So many fabulous options to choose from.  Each roll was a nice size portion and most definitely the freshest and most flavorful sushi I've had in a long time.  Loved how the rolls we ordered from the spring roll and roll menu were wrapped in rice paper or something other than seaweed, which really allows you to savor the flavors.  Pleasantly surprised by unexpected ingredients such as mint, coriander and flowers. They just opened a few weeks ago which explains the service kinks they still need to iron out.  Fantastic value too.  I'd go back there again for sure!

Not impressed but at least I tried it. One of my coworkers recommended this place and was really excited to try it. We both sat in the office looking through their colofrul catalog that seemed more like art than sushi. We finally came here on Valentine's day to treat ourselves to a nice lunch. I was really looking forward to trying some of their speciality rolls like the volcano, miami, and their rainbow roll. As we walked in, one of their employees explained their lunch menu. "It is a new concept," he said. We had to choose from menu A, B, C, or D. Each menu comes with a sushi box, a choice of miso soup or rice, plus a salad. I explained to him that I already knew the rolls I wanted to order but he responded that it would be a long wait during lunch to order from their regular menu. Ok...I choose menu A with miso soup and a carrot salad that had an orange zest to it. It wasn't bad at all. The miso soup tasted fresh and I actually enjoyed the carrot salad. The sushi was nice but the rice was a little mushy. I hate that. It's exactly what happens to sushi rolls when they are left in the fridge. It's not the same. I was very disappointed. I felt like I was eating sushi from Trader Joe's. I guess I will have to come back during dinner to try their real menu.

The space is really narrow and its gets crowded during lunch. The menu may be a new concept but the design of the space seems like an old concept. As you enter Sushi shop, the open fridge with the sushi boxes are on the left and the registers are on the right. People tend to hover on the left side trying to decide which menu to get. The restaurant managers should have someone giving out lunch menus outside or have poster boards so people can decide quickly. They definitely have the modern look but not the most efficient.

I have to admit that with Sushi Shop, NYC eventually becomes a serious competitor.

If there is one thing I could eat all day and never get sick of, it's undoubtfully sushi. In fact, I just had some a couple of hours ago. I discovered sushi shop on a trip to Paris and loved it so much, I was soo glad to hear they arrived to NYC. naturally, I rushed to the opening and was not disappointed at all. It was just as good as I remembered it to be back in France. The staff is so friendly and the fish is super fresh, which you can taste right away. Being a sushi lover, I have literally tried every sushi spot in manhattan, from Nobu to Tomoe and Sushi Shop is really in my top 5. Really, you should try it and I'm suuuure you will love it, thank me later.

I was really excited to try this place as I had read good articles on it and it was from a MIchelin starred chef and my friend had been and loved it (though she's not normally a fan of sushi).  Came here on a Sunday night with my brother.  The staff and managers are really friendly but our waitress was definitely new to the business.  We had to ask her for utensils and napkins (little cocktail ones) after our food came and it took her a long time to check up on us and to get us our check.

As for the food, I was disappointed though the menu and pictures were beautiful.   I was especially excited to try their "frenchified" rolls.  This is what we ordered:

SCALLOP MISO SPICY TUNA SUSHI - not bad.  Picture was beautiful, but I love raw scallop and it wasn't all that sweet or fresh.
TUNA CUCUMBER ROLL - I loved this as I love dill and it had a lot of it in there.  Tuna is tuna melt style so cooked.
CHICKEN CAESAR ROLL - the picture in the menu was especially beautiful with the purple chips crusted on the outside.  Roll was eh, the fried chicken wasn't crunchy which leads me to believe that it's been sitting awhile.
FRENCH ACCENT ROLL - this is the roll that has been mentioned the most in connection with this place opening up, but I wonder if any of those food writers actually tried it.  Well, we did - twice.  It has a fig jam and crushed peanuts on the outside.  When we got it, we looked at it and it didn't look like there was any foie gras in it and did not look as pictured in the menu.  We tasted it and definitely didn't think there was any in it.  So we called over the waitress and said "I don't think there is any foie gras in this" she told the chef behind the counter and we promptly got a new roll...which was exactly the same.  Perhaps it was mashed in with the fig jam, we were confused so we let it go.  Looking back though, it really just didn't seem to have any foie in it either time and at almost $15/roll, there should be at least a savory taste!  Was just sweet.  Maybe it was us, if you've tried it and thought differently, I would love to know.
SPICY TUNA HAND ROLL - I didn't have this, but my brother said it wasn't spicy.
SCALLOP SHIZO SASHIMI - I love raw scallop, but it didn't do it for me.  Not very fresh.
SEAWEED SALAD - good, can't really mess this up.
MOCHI (Mango & Green Tea) - we ordered one order which comes with two mochi, but the waitress came back with two orders of four mochis...again, she was definitely very new.  And extra mochi isn't such a bad thing so we ate it.  Though we weren't really sure if the mango was vanilla or not...very, very subtle fruit flavor.

All in all, I would not go back.  There are way better sushi places all over and their special rolls didn't really do it for me.

Ordered Delivery: Great food and presentation. Menu is extensive, food is fresh and full of flavor so 3 stars for that. But minus 2 stars b/c it took 1hr to deliver, and is literally 1 block from my office, and served prepackaged wasabi & pickled ginger.  For Sushi this classy & pricey, they should serve fresh.  But I'll likely give it another shot for sit-down service.

don't judge a book by its cover. this place looks nice but the food is average at best. one reviewer said it best when s/he compared the food to stop and shop. the wait staff disappeared for long stretches even though the restaurant was empty. items we ordered never arrived. tired of waiting for our waiter, we finally went to the register to pay (as our waiter came in from the outside-- looks like he had just made a super market run!)
