I love Sushi Raw for happy hour. For every $15 you spend from the regular menu, you get one to order one item from the discounted menu.

I love how the sushi chefs always give you a warm greeting when you walk in the door! they make you feel like they've been waiting for you to arrive :)

It's usually pretty empty unless you go on a Friday or Saturday night. Rolls range from $8-$14 (Nigiri & snow crab roll is one of my faves). And you can't beat $1 sake (or $2 for a large bottle). The oysters are a bit pricey though (6 for $10.50). But everything is fresh and delicious.

Parking in this area is not too bad. And they deliver for orders of $20 or more!

Not bad. I always order the Niagara Falls roll, chicken teriyaki dinner plate, and an edamame so I can get a FREE California roll when they deliver for FREE!! Also they have FREE delivery over $20.

Service is mediocre which is why I prefer delivery for FREE ninety nine!

OK...so i used to love this place but now their service is all bad.  I haven't been to the actual restaurant in a while so i'm reviewing on their delivery.   The last few times we ordered they took HELLA long, like over an hour to get to us and the food was cold. We ordered on valentines and it took like 2 1/2 hours, but what's to be expected on vday. So we gave it another shot. We ordered last night. The food came in good time, the food was good, BUT, i told the girl on the phone that we had a $20 gift certificate so she said, ok you will only be charged $40 instead of $60, so i was like...cool.  We got the food, signed for a $40 dollar bill, then when i checked my bank account today there was a $60 charge....OH HELLS NAW!!!  I will be fighting the charge and will NOT be ordering from there again.

The sushi was good. Bento box/entree portions are really small, not worth the price.
Tried the Four Seasons Roll, it was okay.

Don't think I'll be coming back.

really disappointed with the delivery portions. It is smaller than what you get when you eat there.

The salmon terriyaki rice plate runs about $10 with only one small thin slice of salmon less than 3 inches wide.

    Mmmmm, tasty... pretty.... mmmmm.

I just moved here from Japantown, and I have to say after eating 4 years' worth of Japantown food this was a pretty darn good substitute.  They are creative, and have lots of variety....nom! delish!  Super cheap too in comparison... we paid about $50 and ate like drunken kings.

Spent the whole day today almost losing control of my sphincter muscle when body went into Defcon 1. Tonkatsu may not have been cooked thoroughly.

Sushi raw made my a-hole raw. Not cool, bro.

Simply the best restaurant in the Excelsior--as if that was such a heated contest--not even just the best redundantly named restaurant.

Consistently delicious, Sushi Raw has a big menu with every Japanese specialty most non-Japanese people could name, plus some original rolls. Prices are fine, for the high quality. The whole squid is a favorite appetizer. Nice service, su-PERB presentation of the food, clean and pleasantly dark woody room, though not quite as pleasant as the Cafe Grill Bar (aka Cafe Bar and Grill), the yummy Vietnamese place a few blocks south.

I think my ONLY knock on this place is that they indulge in the all-too-common SF vice of favoring the comfort of the kitchen staff over that of the customers by letting in a draft.

This is one of the very few Excelsior places that would be worth going a mile or two out of your way for--except they have several other locations! Rock on, Sushi Raw -- you deserve your every success.

Okay I will admit this place was probably one of the better sushi places I have had in the city, but I think it is over hyped.

I got the lobster roll, which was wrapped with cucumber instead of seaweed, which I thought was a unique idea. I never had a roll like that and thought I would be raving about it for days. However, it tasted too much like ginger. I definitely appreciate the freshness of the fish and ingredients, but it is too bad the taste was nothing to be excited about.

My friend got the eclipse roll, which looked like a bridge. I liked her roll a lot better, but I think it was cause it was fried. Anything fried taste good, right?

Overall, my experience was average. The server did not do much for us and lacked any sort of attentiveness. I can't even tell you how many times I asked for water...

RAAAAAAW is what I screamed on my way out as customers were walking in...why?  I didn't want others to know I found sushi sanctuary on the outskirts of my hood.  Then I got on my knees and bowed.  You don't find sashimi and hamachi kama this delectable in the same place ever.  I won't talk about the unimportant aspects of the restaurant, like interior, service, blah blah blah...let's just move on to what you should order:

6 pieces of Hirame - no soy sauce, no wasabi and if you'd like completely skip the rice it so gently rests on.  This will be the most amazing hirame you'll ever have, I promise!

9 piece Chef's special or Chirashi - I hate salmon, can't stand the taste but this salmon made my eyelashes curl back and I've got asian lashes!  The tuna, albacore, and hamachi were melt in your mouth silky smooth little pieces of love...I just did the happy dance!

And the Hamachi Kama - the collar, medium in size and grilled to crispy perfection.  When you get into the meaty, juicy fish your jaw will clench and your mouth will salivate voluntarily and you'll be grateful I told you to get this!

By the end of the meal and after I put the last piece of raw delishesness in my mouth...I was sad.  It was over, nothing left just brown murky wasabi soy sauce puddle.

Waaaaaahhhhhh I wanna do it again!

Sushi Raw, you have done me wrong.

Your cold beef curry with near ice cold carrot, your ramen that tastes worse than pre-packaged ramen I can get for .50, your high prices for sub-par foodstuffs, you are a compromise that I vow to never partake in again.

As my other half decided to partake in sushi (he actually enjoyed it the both times we've eaten here), I couldn't help but feel I had somehow been cheated.

For reference: I had a couple pieces of sushi and it wasn't terrible. Certainly not Safeway standard but it wasn't high quality, either.  I have eaten (and I used the word "eaten" lightly because I've never eaten more than a couple bites both times) two different dishes: beef curry and corn ramen.

The only thing I can honestly say that I have enjoyed from Sushi Raw was the beef tongue skewer. Sadly, a little skewered tongue isn't enough to make me want to try it a third time.

I'm sorry but for me - two strikes, you're out.

Sushi Raw would typically run a 3 star review for me, but the uniqueness with some of its daily specials and customer service will warrant a 4 star.

Mt. Fuji roll came out with a ring of fire that always brings eyes towards your table when it comes out.

The live Uni was a fun presentation to eat sea urchin roe as the top of the sea urchin is cut open and the remaining spines move around.

Honey walnut and shrimp roll - Having had the Chinese dish way too many times; I admit I ordered this on curiosity. I was not a huge fan, but I smiled at how the flavors taste like the Chinese dish.

Eclipse Roll is a standing rainbow on your plate that didn't fall over as we picked at each roll.

I noticed presentation more than flavors the few times I ate at Sushi Raw. The ingredients were fresh, but I definitely ate with my eyes as my stomach was eventually full. The service was prompt as multiple wait staff asked us about refills of tea that could get annoying as your meal is nearing completion. Sushi Raw is nice little gem in the Excelsior district and would come back for their specials.

This place is a great value, decent food, and nearby.  So often times our group will come here to eat.  I usually get a bento box, with Salmon teriyaki, California rolls, and bowl of Miso.  Everything here tastes good, though I have had better.

Overall, I'd come back here again, just cause it's so convenient and the prices are great.  Service is ok though sometimes they only have one waitress who is overly busy.  Hire another person to help her!!

    Pricing is higher than average.

    Service is amazing.

Roll Specials are amazing.  Second time coming here. I can't forget the polar bear roll. The mexican roll was delicious.

The Bento dinner box was a pricey for the serving size.

I love sushi so my bill for two people has averaged $70 for what I like.

I would probably rate this place 3.5 stars, but I give them 4 instead of 3 for being consistent with their food both times I have been here.

Sushi restaurant that delivers to your home! How great is that? Shared the sashimi platter and an assortment of rolls. For a place that has slightly higher prices than average, I expected better quality, fresh-tasting fish. I will most likely use their delivery service again; however, I will explore other options when I want to dine out.

This place is actually pretty bomb.  I really like the interior design.  It is so spacious and nice looking.  The tables looked and felt clean.  The menu is very easy to sift through to find what you are looking for.  We got the deep fried curry mashed potato, a salmon roll, which I forgot the name of, and the combination dinner box with chicken katsu, teriyaki, and vegetable tempura.  The mashed potatoes tasted excellent- very flavorful.  The combination box was great too, only a bit small for $15+.

Overall, presentation was superb.  Will come here again maybe.  I wonder if they are a chain.  I know they have a couple of other restaurants named Sushi Raw on Taraval and Van Ness?

Came here for dinner. It was better than expected but the portions for the bento & rice plates were way too small. I do eat quite a lot for my size but the rice plate barely appeased my stomach. I got the salmon teriyaki and it came with a scoop of rice, a slightly-bigger than-an-iPhone slice of salmon, salad and soup. My friend got the grilled mackerel and that was really good.

The Four Seasons roll was so good though. So good.

The waitress was sweet and attentive.

Hubby worked late one night and I didn't feel like going out in the cold, so I ordered sushi in!

I was impressed with the offerings on their menu - it's quite varied, and doubly impressed by the fact that they delivered to my area (Daly City).

I ordered gyoza to start, a Red Dragon roll, and a side of rice.  They estimated 45 minutes to deliver and they arrived in 30 (BIG PLUS)! The gyoza was the best I've had since I moved to the area (and I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur of gyoza), and the dipping sauce was pretty delicious too.  The sushi didn't taste super fresh, but perhaps that's just the nature of delivery? And the rice seemed dried out like it wasn't fresh sticky rice.

I would order here again for the convenience, but otherwise I think I'll pass...

This totally hit the spot when I had a sushi craving after finding out good news. We ordered two rolls and got a california roll for free! Awesome. I love salmon and albacore so ordered the Lover's Roll and 49ers Roll and they were fresh and the perfect bite size to pop in your mouth. I'll definitely come back and order something new. Maybe eat in next time since all the staff was super friendly and decor is clean and simple.

So this is the second time I ordered food to go for lunch. Both orders I ended up disappointed.

First order was Sea Bass marinated with miso $8.99. I ordered appetizer style. Guess how much did I get? 1inch by 3 inches of Sea Bass. Are you kidding me???  Yes it was good. But for where this restaurant located, or the resto's condition (when you came in, it's dark and kinda smell like fish fried), I don't think this restaurant suppose to charge that much. And for very little fish? I was very disappointed!

Last time I order was Aji Fly Bento style $10.99. It came with soup, salad, 2 pieces of panco breaded mackerel and 3 pieces of nigiri sushi. I asked what kind of sushi that I will get, the server said it's up to the chef. Ok! I knew it I should have asked for CA roll. I ended up with 3 very disgusting pieces of nigiri. It was tuna, mackerel, and white tuna. It was very very fishy, to the point I gag when I started to eat it. I have to throw those out. What a waste! I don't know if the fish was not fresh or the packaging make it like that. Meaning you NEVER put sushi with hot food in the same container. Because It will go bad fast or smelled FAST.
When I picked up the food, I was surprised when they put the sushi in the bento box. Usually I got another sushi container away from hot food from another restaurants, but I thought it will be okay. He is after all a chef. He should know about this right? WRONG!!!
The salad was also yellowing already. Kinda gross. I also threw 'em out.

Don't bother to come if you value your health. Not recommended!

I got a Dragon Roll. I think thats what its called.... the one with friend shrimp and unagi?
Anyway, the service was spectacular. The fried shrimp was warm and delicious in the center. Everything about it was absolutely perfect and just the way I like it.
The waitresses were sweethearts. Always on top of filling our green tea, bringing us the low sodium soy sauce, and just being polite.
Everyone... no joke... everyone said hello to us when we walked in.
I posted some (bad) pictures of the roll I got. The pictures don't do it justice.
Also, can some please tell what what salad dressing they use and how to make it?! It is so delicious!

    Yum!

I have always wondered about this place since I have walked by it before. I did my research and decided to come here for lunch today. Parking was extremely easy to find on a Sunday morning, especially before noon. I parked right in front of the restaurant and didn't even need to try looking for a spot. It was so open and inviting me to park there. I came here with my parents and they're very picky about dining options.

It must have been a good day since we arrived a few minutes after they opened. There was no wait and we were seated right away. We were offered green tea (free).

Sushi Raw has an extensive menu and specials for lunch everyday. If you're craving for a bento box, you'll get a great deal here. Make sure you get the special lunch menu because the prices are a few dollars cheaper.

My parents ordered one salmon and one beef teriyaki bento box. It comes with miso soup, salad, 4 pieces of California rolls, tempura, rice and the main dish itself. It's a great deal if you're hungry and want to eat a lot. We ordered the soft shell crab for the appetizer and it came out the same time as everything else. It takes a little while to cook I suppose. I highly recommend ordering at least two soft shell crab dishes because it's really good! It is a fried crab battered in tempura and served with tempura dipping sauce. I ordered the House Special Ramen. In the menu description it contains: Pork, bamboo shoot, mushroom, egg, seaweed in a house special made pork broth but it also included fish cake, spinach, and enoki mushroom. I think those are new ingredients or they changed the way they made the ramen. This is really as close as it gets to the ramen noodle restaurants that everyone was comparing them to. It's certainly not going to beat Katana-ya, Santa, or Ramen Dojo but close enough! The broth has plenty of flavor in it and does not need any work. The noodles themselves are tender and cooked al dente which is how I like it.

Service was very attentive and the waitress was very nice. She made sure our tea was refilled and was friendly. I had a very enjoyable time and I would come back again. This is a great location because it's only minutes away from my house.

Now only does Sushi Raw cheer me up, the food actually makes me feel better. When I felt my cold coming on, I went home with one thing on my mind - where to get some spicy soup. Need, need, gots to have...

I'm a baby when sick, so I have to get what I want. When I told my mom that I was craving Ramen, she said she just picked some up. Um, that's not what I meant, but thanks! Now this is what I like: http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Using their website and ordering over the phone. I placed my order for pickup for a bowl of the Special Ramen and an order of Spicy Tuna Rolls, Extra Wasabi and Ginger. Two great things for combating a seriously nasty cold.

It may not have cured my cold, but it sure helped. I slept so soundly after having my ramen dinner and tuna rolls. I may even go back tonight....

The food and presentation is excellent. Servers are really hit or miss. I  had a really sweet server but I noticed another server being rude and also a bit racist. For example, the table next to us had two men eating, no need to say what ethnicity they are because the following conversation was heard:
waitress: "how do you like sushi? better than burrito?"
"see you later amigo! thank you amigo! come again amigo"

That was very strange and awkward...

Okay, moving on to the food. YES! The rolls were BIG and SAUCY and PRETTY! :D I love it when chefs take time to present your food so well that you almost don't want to ruin the masterpiece by digging in. Try their FOUR SEASONS ROLL, RED DRAGON ROLL, and FUJI MOUNTAIN ROLL!! Loved all of them!
Also tried a bento box before, got the short ribs (which were sweet the way I like them), sashimi (requested for 2 pc hamachi and 2 pc salmon)=very fresh, and chicken katsu (crispy!).

Four stars because of the weird racist moment and because prices are a bit over the top! I had a yelp deal so I paid the amount the food was worth.

5 stars for the sushi, 3.5 stars for the Benito dinners

So it's a very nice Japanese-style restaurant in the gritty area of the Excelsior and parking is not a problem at all.  We were seated right away and to experience the place.  Wait staff is friendly and welcoming and the tea always filled.  Now for the food.

The sushi rocks.  Had the Dragon, Four Seasons, Spider and the Caterpillar rolls.  The presentation is excellent and so is the freshness and quantity of the rolls.  Very tasty and absolutely hits the spot.  I'd go back for more.

Now for the dinners.  These were somewhat average and I expected something better after we had the sushi.  The dinners were fine, just not great.  Had the hamachi and should have stuck with the chicken katsu.  The sushi was fresh with thick slices of fish.  Again, it was fine and nothing really special.

But overall it was a great experience, decor is nice, wait staff was efficient, food presentation is excellent and the place was active but not crowded on a Tuesday.  I'll be back for more sushi but would order something else as a main course.

I really don't know how to feel about this place. I came in on a Friday night after purchasing their $20 for $40 deal on Yelp, and it was one of the best AND worst dining experiences I've ever had.

First, let me say that the sushi at Sushi Raw is some of the best I've ever had. We ordered the Taraval Roll, the Mt. Fuji Roll, and the Lover's Roll. The fish was so incredibly fresh, the flavor combinations were fantastic, a bunch of the rolls have FRESH MANGO in them...and the Mt. Fuji roll came out on FLAMING PLATE.

Now...here's the downside. The HUGE downside:
There was a 10 - 15 minute gap in every single interaction with the staff. Our rolls were coming out one by one, with nearly 15 minutes between each one. We were there for HOURS. The kids at the table next to us were begging their parents to go home, but they couldn't because their mom was still waiting on a roll that never came, and the waitress hadn't visited our section in what felt like half an hour. We ended up having our dessert comped because the waitress recognized that the service was terrible, but then it still took us half an hour to get out the door after we asked for the check.

The food was so incredible, and I understand that the waitress was apologetic, but you can only work off your beer buzz and make good conversation with your boyfriend for SO long. You can't really linger over and truly enjoy your food when you're starving and are shoveling food into your face faster than it can arrive.

We had a Yelp deal, and our plan had been to tip on the full amount...but we just couldn't. The wait time between everything was just totally unacceptable. They need to get more people on the floor if they're going to be that busy, or it just won't be worth my time to come back.

DO NOT ever order for delivery unless you want unfresh fishy sashimi, take over 1 & 1/2 hours to get to you, and hang up on you in the middle of the complaint.  Half of my order is not edible.

If you live in the Outter Mission/Excelsior area, you gotta check out Sushi Raw. It is the best restaurant in that neck of the woods for quality, freshness and great service (outside of this there are plenty of bars, taquerias and fast food joints).

It's a nice setting for a date or group dinner with friends and family (I've seen some medium sized bday dinners etc.). They serve a standard variety of rolls, sashimi, bento boxes, teryiaki, udon, sake, and beer. I have enjoyed everything I've tried and even with delivery the food is always fresh (especially important at a Sushi spot). If you are in the area, delivery can be as little as 15 minutes and has never been more than 30 (despite that they say 45)! Free delivery and free CA roll with over $25 purchase, I'm not a big fan of CA roll, but who complains when they get free stuff?

    Oishi Fishi Fun:
I am new to sushi, but I know what I like.  I like sashimi because it is no rice, no frills, no fuss, just oishi fishi fun.  I just let those slabs of fish meat bathe in soy sauce and wasabi before they effortlessly flow into my mouth and drench my taste buds.  Yes, that is oishi (delicious) fishi fun!

I have tried sashimi at different culinary venues, and I do have some favorites.  Yet, I certainly did not want to limit myself.  When I discovered sashimi can be found in the Excelsior District, I had to partake.

Do not be fooled by the unassuming facade.  The interior has a swanky lounge feel with dark rich wood tables and even darker richer leather chairs.  I could almost hear someone crooning.  Actually, I was not hearing things.  No, this time it was not me, but Sushi Raw played my kind of music.  That could only get me in the mood for the midday meal.

I visited on a Saturday a little after high noon, and I had my choice of seating.  The service was prompt and courteous.  Only 1 couple was there ahead of me.  Nevertheless, the place was swimming with patrons by 1:30pm.  Our server handled us customers well.  The other patrons appeared to know their raw fish because they ordered off the daily specials menu.  I was not so adventurous and tried the Sushi Raw Combo which included miso soup, green salad, 6 pieces of California Roll, 6 pieces of nigiri and 4 pieces of sashimi.  Yes, I engulfed the whole plate just to be sure the food was good, of course.

You, too, may have a favorite sashimi spot, but I encourage you to try Sushi Raw.  They have 3 locations in San Francisco (Mission/Haight/Taraval) and 1 in San Bruno.

Take the plunge and give yourself some oishi fishi fun.

There is so much hype with this place. There sushi taste very much the same like the others. Pretty average taste quality!. Although sushi raw is much cheaper.

Thumb up for the customer service.

Came here for dinner on a Monday night, it wasn't busy at all and we also found parking right in front! Awesome find already! =) I ordered the Beef Udon - the broth was very tasty and was served with a variety of vegetables. My friend and I shared the Lover Roll which consisted of spicy tuna topped with albacore and tobiko. I loved the roll, it was very simple and fresh. Overall great pricing for both lunch and dinner, moderately busy so you can always get a table, plus parking isn't a bitch! This is my new neighborhood sushi place.

Honestly, this place has been just around the corner and I now discovered it?!! I'm not going to lie, it's a sushi restauarant right in the mission (which isn't known for Japanese cuisine) so yeah, I overlooked it. So what?

SUPER YUMZ and the prices are decent. I always order a bento box at any sushi joint I visit and so it wasn't a surprised that I got the bento box on this vary same occassion. I love how they let you pick 3 choices off the bento box menu, which comes w/ a side of soup, salad, and rice all for $13.95. They have a really long menu full of different rolls but the only ones I've tried are california and dragon roll which are both excellente. Oh, and the shrimp tempura are amazing. Perfect crunch, perfectly fried. Not the half-assed fried tempura that is soggy like you see in some restaurants.

There's only one waitress who does everything from serving, taking down the menu so it's a bit of a wait (especially if the place is busy).

Sushi Raw has some of the better operating hours in the Sunset and a great "Happy Hour/Bonus" menu.  The sushi and sashimi were both very fresh and my entire party was impressed. Prices are reasonable and the menu features all sorts of Japanese cuisine (i.e. Sushi, ramen, sashimi, traditional entrees, etc).  The staff was very friendly and accommodating, but our appetizer did not come out until after the rolls so a 1 star deduction is necessary.

I'm new to the city, so I don't really have a go-to sushi place yet. I ordered delivery from here tonight because I was too lazy to go out. I liked that I got a free California roll for ordering more than $25 worth of food. I also liked that they told me they'd be here in 45-60 minutes but were here in closer to 30 (I'm near City College). I wasn't super impressed by the food, but it wasn't bad either. So I'm giving them 3 stars for the average food, and an extra star for speedy delivery. I'd probably order from here again.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this place. It seemed like a weird spot for a good sushi bar. After finding parking (very easily!) on a side street I walked one block in the crazy wind to find a very modest sign saying Sushi Raw.

When I walked in on Saturday around 7:30 their were only a few people, I was shown to a table and given tea right away. I was waiting for my friend and this gave me a chance to observe.

The decor is simple, but left my mind to ponder, what artwork they do have it very beautiful.

Menu is large, their is something for everyone.

I had the Happy Nigiri and my friend decided on two types of Sashimi.
We both enjoyed our meals very much. The salad that came with mine had a nice creamy dressing, it was divine. The Miso was decent. The fish was amazing. Very fresh and tender, I was impressed.

    Price wasn't too bad either.

The staff were VERY professional and kind. They were attentive, but not overbearing, kept our tea cups full even after we had finished and paid. We stayed talking until way after they had closed and they didn't kick us out while they were cleaning. So Nice!

I will come back for sure!

Noticed they had a bar to sit at, I might be willing to hit this place up a lone and sit at the bar to watch my meal being prepared next time.

Whenever I'm craving sushi, I always visit this restaurant. I can't speak for their other restaurants scattered around SF/South SF but this particular one is pretty good.

My boyfriend and I always come on a Saturday because the owner (Calvin?) mentioned that their shipments arrive on Saturday. That way, their specials are always fresh. I've seen Live Uni and Live Scallops a couple of times when I've been here.

I'm not a big fan of sashimi but this place has made me a believer! Their sashimi specials (like Blue Fin Tuna or Fatty Toro) can be expensive. The price listed on their white board is for 2 pieces of tuna ONLY. But I have to admit it is the freshest sashimi I have ever tasted. I also like their spicy tuna rolls which are as advertised - spicy! Their Hot Summer Roll is also very good. The waitress suggested we order it raw, which I guess means that it's not baked. It won us over though because that's the way we've ordered it every time we've been here!

Overall, a great sushi restaurant! Parking is pretty easy to find on the street. I always park, at the most, half a block away.

Pretty solid sushi place kind of in the middle of nowhere.  While I don't know if it's worth the drive from South Beach to Sushi Raw, it's still definitely a sushi restaurant that reminds me of the good quality I've found all over in the south bay.  With creative rolls that look beautiful, the taste trumps the really old ambiance in the restaurant.  Only annoying part of the night (that wasn't the restaurant's fault) was when 2 patrons who knew each other talked (literally) over our table.  Aside from that, it was a great experience...just a questionable location.
