Sushi King is King! The place keeps getting better.
Had the most delicious dynomite roll here recently. I couldn't get over how tasty it was. Fresh. YES!
Roll came with a few pieces of sashimi, which were sizable, fresh and tasty, and really hit the spot. Price was incredibly reasonable. Recommend you try this place next time you are on The Drive.

Quite possibly the best sushi on The Drive, and in such an unassuming package! I'd always just walked past and not taken any note, because there's nothing eye-catching about the place.
One day, my boyfriend was waiting on his pizza next door so I thought I'd pop in real quick and get something for myself to eat.
I was immediately surprised by their extensive and unique vegetarian section, and delighted that they offer brown rice! As a gluten-intolerant, vegetarian with low blood sugar, brown rice sushi is basically the best thing ever. And it's not just in theory that this food is good, in practice it is, too! It's really, really very tasty.
They were reasonably priced, very fast, and very tasty.
Most definitely check it out if you like sushi, or just trying new things. In fact, I think I'm going to go back right now. -

This is hand's down, the best of the understated sushi restaurants in the city.
I've lived near this place for years but it wasn't until quite recent that a friend dragged me in and plonked me down for one of the best, freshest, and prettiest japanese sushi meals I've had in awhile. (outside of Guu Garden)
The staff are attentive, the portions are generous but not grotesque and all meals include complimentary edamame and miso soup.
Totally worth a drop in or for take out. -

Cheap, cheerful and slightly ghetto. Damn tasty food, friendly staff and unpretentious vibe make it the best cheap sushi spot I've found on the west coast.
Not dressy, not fancy, just good. -

Sushi King is a great, cheap sushi restaurant to have in the 'hood. I typically get take-out, and the food is always ready to be picked up within 15 minutes. Also, their bento boxes are inexpensive, and you get a LOT of food. I mean, at a typical restaurant if a bento box comes with sushi rolls, you may get 3 pieces -here you get the whole roll. Also, if you place your order at the restaurant (for eat in OR take out), you get free mint tea and edamame while you wait. It's lovely!
Every once in a while, I like to treat myself to a special, "creative" roll, and Sushi King's list of special rolls doesn't disappoint. The last one I had was the Rainbow Dragon roll; with salmon, ebi, tuna and avocado on top, it didn't disappoint.
It may not look like much on the outside, but Sushi King is worth a shot. -

When faced with finding a lunch option other than Italian sandwiches on The Drive thanks to a coworker, I turned to Yelp and found Sushi King. With steadily good reviews and the promise of free snacks, we were sold!
The restaurant is super tiny with a few tables to seat 2 people and one outside to enjoy the non-rainy spring weather. A table was cleared for us (looked like we missed a little lunch rush, even though we arrived around 12:15 and there was no one else in the shop) and we were brought menus. There are pictures of everything by the main door and they give you a clear view about what you're going to receive.
Before we had even ordered, the waitress brought over a dish of edamame and some peppermint (not green!!) tea. Delish! Next came steaming bowls of miso soup, full of seaweed and diced tofu, and we were able to make up our minds on what to have. Before we were done our soup, our orders arrived.
I had the beef bento box, that included beef teriyaki, 5 pieces of tempura, salad, 6 pieces of california roll, one pork gyoza, and a slice of orange. Unfortunately I don't eat pork and so I was a little scared to have the gyoza near my other food but the pre-peeled orange made it all a-okay. My coworker had the salmon and tuna combo, that came with both rolls and sashimi and tons of them.
Both of our lunches were only $8 with tax and definitely filled us up. Sushi King wins as it offers fabulous food and service, all at very reasonable price! -

I just went back and I was really impressed with what I got with my bento box. They gave me some sort of lightly fried tuna snack, not sure exactly what it was, it was tasty. They also gave me some green beans. Both of these snacks were given as extras, no charge.
I was really impressed.
The only downsides are that they have no central heat, although they do have a couple of portable heaters keeping the place warm.
So, once again, for a low cost really good value bento box, you can go to Sushi King on the Drive.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I love Sushi King and am there every other Saturday for lunch. Delicious fresh sushi at very reasonable prices and is perfect if you want a quick informal Japanese meal.
The lady who manages the place is a real character too and always welcomes you with a hello and a big smile.
Only criticism is that you'll be half way through your miso soup and they'll already be bringing out your bento box. No big deal as the food is really nice. Enjoy! -

Sushi King, despite its minimal appearance is actually a pretty good sushi place. Commercial Drive is about the one place in the city that doesn't have an abundance of Sushi options so , when I head down there and have a craving for the stuff I tend to head to Sushi King.
For a small place they have a pretty large menu. It all errs on the side of traditional, and is done well. I'm a big fan personally of their combos and box lunches that sometimes deviate from the norm featuring things like Gyoza and non-tea drinks (GASP!).
The place really isn't much to look at but it doesn't smell , and isn't actually dirty once you get in. Also the wait staff is always super attentive and kind, which is more than you can say for a lot of Sushi places in the city. -

A bold name for a mediocre restaurant, Sushi King does offer some complex and affordable combos for the Japanese aficionado out there. The wall next to the register is coated in pictures of different options, most notably the box lunch that comes with pork or vegetable Gyoza.
It's small and kind of sticky, with tiny tables and huge cooler of hot tea sitting at the back waiting to be self-served. Most of the customers are just picking up their food to go, and the restaurant spends more money on Styrofoam than a mail order electronics store.
It's like a fast food restaurant really, only less greasy (excluding tempura). -

i love sushi king!
just the other day i tried their starry night roll. yummeh. its got prawn and yam tempura, lettuce, cucumber and something else on the inside, while the outside is topped with spicy raw tuna, red roe and 2 delish sauces.
the prices are great, they are fast in preparing your food, free edemame. miso, and mint tea before you order.
i love their magic roll too, which is a spicy tuna roll thats been deep fried and drizzled with the best sauce. ive never had their bento boxes or any rice meal, just rolls. if im by myself i eat at the bar and have always been amazed at how fast the chef prepares my rolls!
ive been eating here for about 8 years and i have never been disappointed. fast food sushi king is the way to go! -

Sushi was great value for the quantity and price. I always prefer quality over quantity but this place held a respectable spot for quality. Not to mention the friendly service of this place. I would recommend this place if you're looking for great cheap sushi.
