If you're looking to fill your gut go here. The sushi tasty the portions are huge and the prices are great for what you get.
Probably depends though on the occasion you can get some fish that may be a little less fresh than the rest and the Tuna and Salmon are not the highest of quality. But! I would choose this over many other sushi restaurants in Vancouver.
Other great things are the tempura, miso soup, pretty much all the rolls. But if you're looking to for a roll that you won't finish get the House Roll, this is what this restaurant is all about!
The service is always excellent and the food is ready 90 percent of the time, by the time I go there to pick it up. They also have discounts on pre-orders.
Wish I could give it 4.5 stars. I just can't give it 5. But ya, Go there! -
Review from Purdy J.
Out of all the sushi places in Vancouver, Sushi King House is a solid choice. I've been many times and always leave satisfied and full... no surprise stomach problems. Not excellent, fine quality sushi but very good and overall fresh tasting.
Food: Big, huge rolls. The sushi comes with large portions of fish but also large portions of rice. Their lunch and dinner specials are always very filling and the tempura has a thick batter... again large potions and very filling. The BC rolls have layers and layers of salmon skin with cucumber and their salmon rolls has a good chunk of salmon with avocado. They certainly don't skip on anything here... so you don't have to worry about just filling up on too much rice. You can fill up on everything.
Take out is fast and efficient. Restaurant isn't fancy, just a typical sushi place with photos of their menu items posted all over the walls. A good to place to eat on a budget.

Is bigger always better? During this visit, it was alright.
We had the Green combo $6.50 (Avocado, Cucumber and Spinach) and the pieces of avocado were massive! We have a relatively small appetite, so we did have to bag up the left-overs
I had "Box C" $8.25 ($7.25 between 11am - 2:30pm) Tempura & salad, beef or chicken on rice and 4 pieces of assorted sashimi - the tuna and salmon sashimi had to be the biggest I've ever had.
We also had the 8 piece vegetable tempura $5.50
The food quality is alright for this hole-in-wall place; my stomach hasn't done anything yet since I left the place an hour ago. I would only come here if I was doing something else nearby.
This place is cash only. For pick-up orders not including bento boxes, you can get a discount for advance orders. 1 Day advance notice-10% and 2 hours advance notice 5% off.
Food quality 2-3 stars
Quantity 5 stars
Service - 4 stars (I have a soft spot for nice family-run businesses) -

Used to live right by the Granville location, and was I ever grateful. Nothing special about its location or design, it's small, a little tired and bare bones in way of decor, but THE SUSHI IS GREAT. THE PORTIONS ARE FRESH, GENEROUS IN SIZE, AND SO INEXPENSIVE. If you're looking for unpretentious, tasty, giant, affordable sushi, the exact antithesis of any sushi in Van city centre, this is the place. You even get 5-10% off, if you pre order. Check it out!

Sushi King advertises "The Biggest Sushi In Town", and they are right. You can stuff your face for under $8 here. Just order a couple of rolls and you are set. As a result, I spend much cash here.
The ingredients are fresh, and you can't really go wrong. Some people may not like this, but there is a huge rice component too, which ensures you do not leave hungry. This is not to say that the filling is decreased. Not at all.
There are a couple of big screens on the wall, and they do show the Canucks.
Service is friendly but definitely on the slow side. They are definitely short-staffed.
The other thing is that this place closes at 9pm.
There is an underground parking lot for the plaza, but I am never sure if you are actually allowed to park here. Haven't gotten a ticket so far though. -
Review from Angela L.
What Sushi King lacks in food quality, it makes up for in sheer size. The previous comments about the size of the house roll? Not an exaggeration. Those things are a sight to behold.
The rolls aren't made very well...they're always loose and poorly wrapped, and they serve the big, chunky, unwieldy end pieces which I'm not really a fan of. The food is decent quality though, and very good value. One roll is a decent sized meal, and two people can stuff themselves for $20.
Not a place to take a date or just anyone you don't know very well, because it definitely qualifies as a "friend food" type of place...you know, the kind of place where you feel okay about making a big, unattractive mess as you eat. You've been warned.
Ambiance is sort of dingy, complete with neon lights and all. Service is quick and reasonably friendly.Listed in: Cheap and Cheerful

Worst sushi in existance (and yes... I've been here multiple times due to friends with bad taste in sushi)
The fish is old and tastes horrible and the rolls are so big that you have to eat them in three bites. Not cool. -
Review from Andrew H.
Wow, this place sucks! Fish is old and roles are huge which makes them difficult to eat. They also only accept cash.

Sushi King is either great or terrible depending on what you like.
If you want good sushi served in ridiculously large rolls for extremely cheap, then this is your place. Two rolls will be more than enough for a normal stomach. I usually get a dynamite roll and an avocado roll -- it's a struggle to finish them both.
If you want a nice ambiance and creative rolls, this is not the place for you. The room is tiny with terrible lighting, and you're not going to be blown away by any food you haven't seen before.
But it's good. Good sushi and a good price with absurd portion sizes. Just remember this place is cash only! -
Review from Tim L.
Size is what matters when you come here. They claim to have the largest sushi in Vancouver and I believe it!
Don't make the newbie mistake and order too many rolls thinking they are your run of the mill 6 piece affairs.
No no no my friend. Especially do not make this mistake with the house roll. It looks like the size of a loaf of bread.
You've been warned. -

This is my favourite place to go for Sushi in Marpole. They boast having the biggest sushi in Vancouver. I've yet to find a place that does it bigger or for better value when you consider the size you get for their affordable prices.
It's very easy to over-order at Sushi King House. An individual salmon sushi nigiri comes with a massive piece of of salmon sashimi that drapes over the rice lavishly. It's impossible to eat one piece of house roll in one bite, unless you have one of those mouthes that can fit several billard balls. Even the California rolls are a two-bite phenomenon. Of course, when you have to eat a roll in more than one bite, you run into the dilemma of it falling apart in an unappetizing way. That's why I stick to the nigiri and sashimi.
Sushi King House doesn't feature any of the creative rolls you see at some of the area's trendier sushi bars. That being said, the freshness of the fish is decent and it's nice to be able to go in knowing that you'll leave with a full belly. -

Food: The selection of sushi and combos are the same as the Sushi King House in Kerrisdale and Samurai (on Cambie) and Benzai Sushi (Richmond). My personal favorite is the House Roll and the sashimi (portions are huge!) However, Samurai is definitely a lot busier ( and therefore, has fresher ingredients) and I'm not sure how the cleanliness of this restaurant is...my brother claimed to have gotten stomach flu after eating here once. BUT, that was the only incident and I've gotten take-out many many times and nothing happened.
Value: great value, but if you are in the vicinity of Samurai, I would go there instead for fresher food for the same price.
If you are thinking of getting take out....5% discount if you order two hours before and 10% discount if you order a day in advance! -

Vancouver, BC
Background: I'm from Vancouver and I know sushi.
Food: We went on a quiet afternoon and shared one of the sushi combos. The House Roll is grotesquely large (the size of the palm of my hand) and impossible to eat without destroying completely - but it's essentially not bad. Tuna was ok. Salmon was ok. The quality of everything here was just average, the size was jaw-droppingly large for a roll.
Ambiance: Tiny worn dining room with about ten 4-seater tables. It ain't the prettiest restaurant.
Service: Fast but not noticeably so.
Pricepoint: $10 a person should have you loosening your belt buckle.
Overall: If you're looking to just EAT OK STUFF this is great and the quality is not bad. However it's certainly not sushi the way it was made to be eaten, and I wouldn't recommend it if you care. -

Giant Sushi !
Do not confuse this place for the one on Commercial Drive they are not the same this place is inferior.
2.5 stars
I read the reviews and thought I would try it today. The salmon sushi was really good. The tuna sushi and masago sushi were fishy tasting (not fresh). The tamago sushi seemed to be watered down. The Alaska roll, California roll and house roll were OK. I was expecting it to be better but it wasn't. For a bit more I can get much better quality at Aoki's. -

this place has become my fav jap place... we always do take out here at least once a week... i just love their house roll... what's not to like about it... huge pieces of salmon and tuna sashimi within... and it's so unbelievably cheap... i also love their tamago unagi roll... it's so very good... one advice though... do not get the SSSR... coz it's pretty plain...
other things to recommend is the party tray A... it cost 20bux and it's good for 2 people... love their scallop sushi in it... as well as the California roll... and it has a half order of house roll...
as for their plain sashimi order... tuna is the best... it's so thick (over an inch) and tasty... i also tried their toro... and for some reason my last order of toro was extremely oily...Listed in: Always Good Food

I've only had takeout from this place - and my boyfriend went in to get it so I have no clue what the inside of the restaurant is like - but the rolls we got really hit the spot for us. The fish was fresh, the rolls were huge, the sushi rice was decently flavored, and the price was cheap. Service was also pretty quick. I would not mind getting sushi takeout from here again.

Update: I still really love it here. It is still the only sushi place I make a point of going to at least once a week. I still walk away happy and satiated everytime. I still praise their yummy simple wares. I still love you, Sushi King.

I might be biased since I've been coming here since they first opened circa 2002 when I was working a few stores down. With their menu (and sushi size) larger than ever, the secret to eating here is figuring out what you like and not ordering too much. My mom swears by the party tray C that includes a large assortment of nigiri, rolls, and even sashimi for around $30 for gatherings. My personal favourites are: asari (clam) miso soup, yam tempura, chopped scallop nigiri, assorted deluxe sashimi, and chirashi donburi (a super deal for $9.95). For vegetarians and others who are keen, the green set with a roll each of spinach, avocado, and cucumber is filling and delicous for a little more than a fiver.

Review from Geoff B.
Pretty good hole in the wall in a massive strip of hole in the wall sushi joints. Is there some kind of zoning law in effect that ensures maximum sushi density on this 7 blocks of Granville? Anyways, like other reviewers mention, size matters at Sushi King. We're talking rolls the size of your head. Two were enough to fill me completely, which is no small feat (it's not my fault, I got hollow legs). Given that, the value for the amount of food you get is excellent. The sushi is pretty average tasting, but who can argue with so much for such a low, low price?
