Review from Elisa L.
Another new sushi place in KW. Lunch for all you can eat is about $13, which is cheaper than Ye's (at least, the last time I went there!). It used to be a Tim Hortons, but they removed it.
This place is Chinese owned, like the rest of the sushi chains in KW. So you will have fluent Mandarin speakers, and they are decent in English, too. We went on a Sat. afternoon, so it was not crowded at all. I think there were 4 other tables.
The atmosphere isn't bad, the place has many windows so there is a lot of natural lighting.
Food: we did not do all you can eat. We ate full menu since we knew it'd be cheaper. We had a Rainbow Sushi, Fried tofu, Curry Pork w/ Rice, and a Vegetarian Teriyaki bento box. They were all very typical dishes with no particular tastes. Curry Pork was pretty good though.
Food came pretty fast, the service was pretty good (they had 2 or 3 waiters).
A good place for groups and families, if you love all you can eat, here's another place to have it. -
Review from Amy Y.
Kitchener, ON
I was really excited to try out this place since I LOVE sushi and this place is only a 10 minute walk from my house, so I went to this place for AYCE dinner with a friend. However, I found it to be a very disappointing experience:
Menu: Right off the bat, I tried to order my favourite at AYCE sushi restaurants -- spider roll, aka. soft shell crab roll. It's actually the standard dish I order at every sushi restaurant I go to so I can compare them on the same dish. The waitress told us that spider roll is only available on the a la carte menu, not AYCE. What's the point of having an AYCE menu if you can't try everything on the menu? Every AYCE sushi place I've been to has spider roll on their dinner menu! (This wouldn't have been such a big deal if the rest of the dinner went well.)
Sashimi: The red tuna sashimi had a very odd taste and texture. It was really mushy and the taste was really off. We stuck with salmon and white tuna sashimi on subsequent orders.
Rolls: We ordered various rolls and I was really hoping that they would make up for the initial disappointment. The rolls came with so much rice and such tiny specks of ingredients that all I could taste was the rice. We ordered the house special roll (Salmon, tuna, prawn, avocado & cucumber) and I must say I've never seen so much rice in a roll -- it was so absurd that I started taking pictures at this point! Same problem with other rolls we ordered (e.g., california roll, yam cajun prawn roll). (Check out the pictures I posted above)
I know that a lot of AYCE places want to fill you up on rice, but when all the rolls start to taste the same because it's 90% rice then it's beyond ridiculous. I've been to a lot of AYCE sushi places in KW and in Toronto, and I've never seen a restaurant stuff so much rice into a roll that even the insides have more rice than ingredients. Based on the quality of the rolls and sashimi, and the restrictions and lack of variety in the menu, I'll be going back to my regular sushi joint.
