Review from Luisa D.
We were up on 4th and I was fiddling around returning something at a store. My very hungry and very smart husband decided to check out the yelp app to find a place to have sushi. After seeing the reviews for this place he'd made his decision.
We ordered gyoza, agedashi tofu, Ocean Dream roll, Paradise roll, and a spicy tuna roll. Everything was so beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. All the 'Bella' rolls sounded so good and my husband declared "We'll be back!" Like I said, he's very smart. :D
I think the bill was around $40 and we were stuffed. Sure there are cheaper places to go but the quality here is worth the bit extra. Still less expensive than other high quality sushi places and the atmosphere (including the cheesy romantic music) is soothing.Listed in: My Kitsilano

It was a Sunday. Sunday lunch to be exact. I really wanted some sushi for lunch, but it seems like Vancouver didn't like to open their restaurants on Sundays at lunch. After heading to two restaurants and finding out they weren't opened, we ended up at Sushi Bella. It had more of a "chic" look to it, and I think the owners were Korean.
My friend had the chirashi, and it looked exceptional. I had the gangster roll, and it was okay. I think it could've been better. Volcano roll was okay as well.
I think I had high expectations that day, mainly because I was craving for ultra mouth-watering sushi from the other restaurants that I wanted to go to before. It was good, but could have been better considering that I was in Vancouver. I know, I'm a snob, eh? -

Fancy - Originality - Standard - Unique
Fanstic place for a romantic meal, but also cozy for a group of friends or family. Been here twice and there's Always customers. Their food is unique & original and it's not those ordinary sushi that you'd always find in every sushi place.
Price is also good, for a cozy place and in Kitsilano, I thought it would be pricey but it wasn't, food prices was good and worth it.
I like it when I enter their resto, i'd find japanese staff instead of chinese, i find japanese staff would know the sushi more than a chinese owner/chef/staff in a sushi bar/resto. -

Walking down 4th, hankering for sushi...
hmmm Sushi Bella.... quick look at Yelp App... 4.5 stars, in we go!
Thanks Yelp family, you save the day again.
This is a real fusion-y place, akin to Black Tuna on Denman or Sonomama on Granville back in the day. Like those great places, Sushi Bella has a Chef / Owner who really takes the fusion to the next level. Love it.
Chicken Bites: not quite Japanese, but really quite exquisite.
Trio of Agadashi Tofu: Lovin' it!
Go Go Crunch roll: double shrimp tempura goodness!
Assorted Nigiri: love at first bite!
Service: impeccable.
Will def. come again when I want to take a walk over the Burrard Street Bridge!

Good sushi yummy in fact with good presentation. SLOW lunch service. We told her we were in a rush but she would rather be chatting with her co-workers than get us the bill.

What a lovely restaurant! Showed up with the husband for a Saturday date night, to find this place busy as heck! With the way layout of the place, the seats are pretty close together - I'm fairly certain the table next to us was on an awkward early date or something, we heard their conversations and awkward long pauses, it almost made our date awkward. :\
Either way, we spent a long time perusing the menu, since they had several interesting options and everyone around us was getting different things. I was determined to try this bella tower after seeing so many pictures of it, but was torn with so many options for specialty rolls (my kryptonite). In the end, we went with the following:
bella tower - I couldn't say no! Who can resist salmon and tuna with masago on top, all on a bed of imitation crab meat mixed with avocados and sliced shitaake mushrooms? This was the winner of the night, hands down. The dish was amazing, and I would gladly just 10 of these for dinner; I have no shame.
ocean breeze - This was an interesting one. The green onions gave the negitoro some additional flavour, and the spicy mayo brought it up a notch.
crab party - a cali roll with real crab meat. Unfortunately, this had no flavour - the crab meat didn't taste like anything (I guess it tasted like the small amount of mayo it was mixed into), so it didn't seem worth it.
volcano - husband likes a spicy roll, so we ordered this one and were greeted with cali rolls topped with a pile of diced tuna sashimi, all that topped with a healthy layering of korean spicy sauce. It was seriously mouth-watering (in a burning sort of way). I was sad about this one, since the spicy sauce meant that we couldn't really taste much of the actual roll, let alone anything else.
A few hits and a few misses, but I wouldn't mind coming back here again for the tower, to try a sushi pizza (I remember when those things were the must-order item back in Toronto), and a few of the other rolls I had debated about. The service is certainly nice enough to warrant a second visit - the chef seemed extremely happy with his job, chatting with customers at the bar, and the staff were always friendly and checked on us often. At $34 for our dinner, it was definitely worth it. :)
Reachable by the number 4 or 7 buses.Listed in: Sushi!

Nice comffy place on W. 4th, almost a feel of an izakaya place, so better than those sushi stops...
Ordered their pizza sushi, w/ tuna, special sauce, the orange mini eggs, chopped green onions, all's tasty except thought the crust was just a bit too hard for deep fry. still will recommend n order next time
Pork Gyoza. while not gyoza king-ish, still its 6 pieces worth the value.
Arrived just before last call at 3pm, so pretty good service still. other restos will sometimes just give u an attitude n ask u to order soon or even turn you away.
parking's always a challenge on this busy street... -

The Hawaiian Poke is the best thing on the menu. Not only did the yellow fish tuna pieces, melt in my mouth, the conversation about Poke, Poked Poke and why it is served in a large Martini glass, is still going on and I expect it will go one until the wee hours of the morning HeHe.

Pretty yummy and fresh but not the best I've ever had. I still bought another groupon though. If you're on the fence I'd definitely recommend it as a place to hit up if you're in the area.
Recommended = Bella roll, any of the nigiris, and the lunch specials are a steal -

I found this sushi restaurant from other's recommendation. I think a restaurant should be ranked by both the quality of food and the atomsphere or the decoration. This is a quiet and romantic place where you can expect a comfortable date with your friend. The light is warm and that makes the experience of eating enjoyable.
As to the food, I also want to praise. I am keen on colorful special rolls at different japanese restaurant these days and this is a surprise. They have a wide range of choices for rolls that you can never deny. They not only taste good but also looks appealing. I really like this place. -
Review from Awesta M.
I moved away from Yaletown in August of last year into Kits. It's been fun discovering the neighbourhood but I realize that I keep going back to Yaletown or downtown for sushi. It's not intentional mostly laziness really.
So today the hubby and I were craving sushi and wanting to branch out, explore even. We turned to Yelp for inspiration and it pointed us to Sushi Bella.
Walked in and one of the servers greeted us immediately. The decor as has been noted in other reviews is nice. We were promptly seated, provided menus and tea (shocking, like most people I enjoy prompt attention).
We ended up getting a variety of items:
The wild salmon sashimi: so good, so fresh. I haven't had sashimi this good in a while. Yes, we do tend to go to hole in the wall sushi places, why do you ask?
Ikura: so fresh. so good. (see look I changed it up from above)
The volcano sushi pizza: I'm really glad I tried it. It was an interesting combination of items with the avocado, the jalapeño, the tuna and the fried rice cake. Was it my favorite, no. Not in a "horrible experience" sort of way, but in a "not for me" sort of way.
The california roll and the ocean breeze roll: the california roll was solid, no complaints. The ocean breeze roll was another interesting one. (Please see volcano sushi interesting explanation.)
Overall, I really enjoyed my experience and would definitely go back. This is definitely one of those "I'm craving good quality sushi without paying crazy prices" type of places. -
Review from Tamara L.
I don't quite have the words to describe how amazing Sushi Bella is. It is basically everything I ever looked for in a Sushi restaurant all wrapped up into one fabulous little place on 4th Ave.
It was so refreshing to step into a Sushi place like this that is done up nicely, has amazing atmosphere, an even better menu, great service and MIND BLOWING food. From the presentation to the tastes & textures everything about my order was top notch. I don't think that I have ever had nicer looking sushi served to me... and all at a reasonable price.
Agadashi Tofu 'trio' was delicious and exciting-- a wonderful, modern spin on a Japanese Restaurant staple. Though, I agree with previous Yelpers, that the classic one was the best.
Crunchy Go-Go Roll-- Perhaps one of my favourite rolls of all time at ANY restaurant. Absolutely bang-on.
Volcano Roll-- Basically a california roll topped with chopped, spicy tuna. Also very yummy.. Though, to be honest, I was not totally crazy about he house-made 'red' spicy sauce. The spicy mayo on the Go-Go Roll was much tastier.
Deep Fried California Roll-- Suuuper yummy and a great value for your $!
I can't wait to come back here with a group of people so that I can try more menu items. There were a LOT of things that looked incredibly delicious. It was very hard just choosing a couple for myself!
You MUST try Sushi Bella! -

Fusion Sushi. Best way to describe. You will find your favorites. But you really should be adventurous. Good quality ingredients. Good service. Nice atmosphere and decor. Staff were excellent. I would definitely return. I would call my taste for sushi a bit picky. Their rolls are generous in ingredients and dont surround them with a large amount of rice.
Good liquor selections in wine, beer and sake. -

I read the raving reviews and was cautiously optimistic as there were only a few. I have a high standard for sushi and Kadoya is my favourite which nothing else seems to compare in vlaue and quality, even in this city known for excellent sushi. I'd happily say that sushi bella was almost as good if not equal for different reasons.
The deep fried California roll is AWESOME! The gangster roll was also good. The miso was delish. The sashimi seemed a little pricey, but did seem slightlly higher quality, but not much. So I think my fav is still kadoya for bang for the buck. I liked there drink menu too lots of options. Presentation was great and I think I gave a huge tip cause i dont like asking for change and the service warranted it! I'll definitely be back and am excited I finally have another go to sushi option other than kadoya.... -

I stopped by this restaurant tonight before going to a Yelp event, and had high pretty high expectations given the previous reviews. What I should have done was lower the bar a tad because the meal started out great and sort of went down hill from there.
The restaurant decor was like a breath of fresh air. Given that it was a new location, all the furnishings were still new (and clean).
Our order: From best to worst
Best: Original Sushi Pizza. This was delish! Tuna and salmon with masago and spicy mayo over rice cake. Should have ordered two. For pic: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Lady Mango Roll: Lots of flavor packed into this veggie roll! Avocado, red beets, and yam tempura roll with tropical mango salsa. For pic: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Today's special: Seared ahi tuna salad. Larger chunks of tuna in a mild sauce. I'm a sushi snob, and I say it was so-so. I wouldn't order it again. For pic: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Baked Dynamite: Last dish to arrive. Do NOT order this. It's basically Asian fusion gone wrong. And I had been expecting something altogether different. If you're curious, it's baked scallop, prawn, oyster, spinach, onion, mushroom, & cheese. For pic: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Service: Hot green tea is included in the meal, which is a plus! But one of the servers forgot to bring us water when we requested it, so we had to ask the other server for it.
The bill came out to about $52, including HST, which is reasonable given the amount of food we ordered. I also had a Living Social Deal where I paid $15 for $30 worth of food.
All in all, I'd say it's a toss up. I might go back to try their sashimi, because that's really how you should rate a sushi joint. -

Got a voucher to try the newish establishment, and I have returned a few times since. Very good service (i.e. hot tea within minutes of sitting down, little waiting, prompt in bringing food, polite), fair price, good portion size, and a classy ambiance. One of the better affordable Japanese restaurants around. Hopefully it'll set the bar for all the other pseudo-sushi places.

This is one of those "nouveau" Japanese restaurants that provides both traditional and creative dishes. Being that I can get good traditional Japanese food in a few other places, I decided to try some of their creations. I can say that I wasn't disappointed. The rolls I had were great. I had the chance to try four different ones and they were all tasty. For those that are more health conscious, they even ask if you want your rolls made with brown rice...something you don't see too often around here. I've eaten in a few other Japanese restaurants like these and this one is one of the better ones. (The best is Japonessa in Seattle but their prices are correspondingly much higher.)
If you want to avoid the crowds, go for lunch when it's not so busy. The seating arrangement, like many small Japanese sushi and ramen places, is pretty tight in some spots so be prepared to sit close to others if it's busy. -
Review from Megan S.
Came here last night with a friend and had a pretty nice meal. We shared a large Sapporo and ordered the gomae, agedashi tofu trio, tuna tataki, rainbow roll and deluxe veggie roll. I wouldn't call the portions generous, but everything was fresh and beautifully presented. Well, except for the gomae - wasn't bad, but it didn't look or taste any different than an uber-cheap sushi joint.
The tataki was easily my favourite dish, I especially liked the addition of capers - the brininess worked well with the citrusy ponzu sauce and the lightly seared fish. The tofu trio was good, but it was a bit of a gimmicky concept as the mango and chili versions weren't nearly as good as the original.
The décor was cool - the restaurant contained many elements of a typical sushi restaurant but the teal touches made it feel modern. Best of all, despite being in a "hip" location, the price was very reasonable - before tip our meal came to less than $50.
Great place for a mid-week dinner with friends, and I'd recommend it for a cheap date, too. -

I went there two times. The first time was excellent and the second time was good. The servers are delightful but they are not very attentive. My cups were empty for a long time and they still had not refilled. It happened both times I went there. One time I had to ask one of the servers three times for that but she still forget. They only smile a lot. But they are not responsible and I could feel that they were unwilling to serve customers, or I can just simply say they are lazy. I had to wait for the bills for a long time after finished eating. Their food worthes 80% but their service worth only 40%.

Vegetable roll with rice paper was really nice, as was my scallop nigiri. Wild salmon roll was very good too. The go-go roll had wayy too much fried-ness going on; (the waitress actually warned me about this but I didn't listen and had to find out for myself). The service was very friendly, and they even gave me a free taste of an item that had caught my eye: the barely seared salmon wrapped around crab, with garlic and olive oil (wasn't a big fan of that one).

Delicious fresh sushi ! This place was highly recommended to my by a friend and it lived up to its expectations. They have a diverse and exotic menu -- includes something for everyone. Also contained lots of vegetarian options which I appreciated. The dishes are all reasonably priced between $9-$15. The lunch specials come with miso soup which was delicious. I tried the trio tofu agedashi, crazy california roll, and the veggie combo. One of my friends also had the sushi pizza which looked interesting...
It's a great lunch spot, definitely recommended if you are in the area ! -

Yum! Heard from a co-worker that Sushi Bella in North Van was very good, so when it opened in Kitsilano coupled with a Living Social deal, I had to try it.
Although we were the first ones there when it opened for dinner, soon began a steady stream of people arriving & picking up take-away. The chefs are visible in the middle of the restaurant so you can watch them prepare everything, which I like. The sushi & sashimi platters going by us looked fresh & very appealing. GENEROUS bowls of delicious miso soup. Overall very attentive, friendly service, our waitress had some great recommendations including a delicious vegetarian roll, the Soy Bean Paper Roll, for my vegetarian, no-sashimi-eating friend.
Also ordered: gomaae, trio agedashi, shiitake roll, crunchy go-go roll. -

As a vegetarian my options are pretty limited here, but the soy paper and veggie roll were delicious. Every dish looks so pretty. Udon soup was bland though. Great service and ambiance.

I agree with the other reviews.. extremely fresh food here! Such a wide selections, and presented very well, almost like a work of art on your plate. Portion sizes are moderate, so you can order 2 items a peice to share, and manage to not "roll" (yuk yuk) away when you're done. Definatly would stop here again if I was in the area.

Discovered this place because of a Living Social deal, and was so glad I gave it a try. The menu had tons of innovative specialty rolls. I tried the mango prawn appetizer and the Ocean Roll (my favorite), Bella Roll, and a deep fried roll with unagi and cream cheese in it. Everything was fresh and delicious, and I thought the portion sizes were decent. I will definitely be back!

I was extremely happy when this second location opened up in Kits a few months ago. Having first fallen in love with the Sushi Bella in North Van, this new location is now dangerously close that it is a part of my regular meal plan. The decor is a step above your average sushi restaurant, and the staff is as friendly as they come, but what really won me over is the food. Their Bella Rolls are always a fun choice, and the variety is huge that you could go several times to this restaurant and still not have tried them all. My favs include the Crunchy Go Go Roll and The Lady Mango Roll. As I've worked my way through the menu I've discovered a few other favourite items including the wild salmon sashimi and the Original Sushi Pizza. Yes, that's right I said pizza. It's not what you're thinking though, and at first I was skeptical, but my boyfriend ordered it and once it arrived I couldn't resist and we now get it every time we go. Essentially it's a fried rice patty as the "crust" topped with fish and sauces and cut into quarters. Something about the combination of the pizza's flavours and textures just makes my mouth so happy. You definitely pay a premium for the nicer atmosphere and creative menu options, but I stand by my word that it's worth it. But if you're still not sure, and don't want to make the full investment, then keep your eyes open for Living Social coupons because twice now they've had $15 for $30 offers!

Outstanding, fresh, beautifully paired seafood. Delightful service. Best sushi I've ever had in North America, my fiance concurs and we've had sushi all over the continent. I was sad to leave Van cuz of this place. You are lucky if you have an opportunity to eat here.

I took one star off 'cause service was very slow when I came in on a Friday night. The staff were friendly though. Other than that, it's definitely worth coming here for the innovative rolls and the sushi pizza. Will be back for sure!
