Great place for a quick cheap Sushi meal.

Its your typical Vancouver sushi place: fresh fish, quick service, and small rolls which in fact I prefer!

As I live in the area I will definitely return

If I can fit the whole nigiri in my mouth in one bite, then it's too small.  Both the fish and rice need to expand in size by about another 15% or so.

The tako wasabi was a little too sweet and would be better if it came with seaweed.  The gomae was good and had right amount of peanut sauce.

Another thing that irks me is when servers don't talk and motion their hand towards where you can sit.  It's a small thing, but so easily fixed.  He didn't smile the whole time I was in the restaurant.  I guess he was having a bad day, but it's annoying.  The other waitress was friendly though.

Dinner was still inexpensive and I enjoyed my sushi.  Increase the size, tweak the food a little bit and have the server smile more and they would have gotten a 3.

I used to frequent Sushi Bang when I was a broke student at Blanche Macdonald.  It was cheap, close to City Square and quick.

Last week I was wayy to early for my yoga class coming from work and was starving, so I decided to grab some quick sushi to tide myself over til after class.  Again, my yoga class was in City Square so off I went to Sushi Bang.

Well, they've changed their decor since the 7 years ago I've been there.  The sushi was ok, not great.  The nigri was really really small.  I would've probably given them a 2.5 stars but it's my day off and I feel generous today.  It was edible, I wasn't starving anymore, it did the job.

Most likely though, I won't be back.

Sushi Bang was one of the first small sushi places I went to in Vancouver. I loved it for its great value - the quality, cheap prices, variety & location. They redid the interior over the years & created a much more pleasant seating area for dining in, albeit I got takeout more often than I stayed in to dine. Never had bad sushi here & I still dream about the hot night roll...

Great sushi. Good prices, especially for the prime location. Skytrain is just across the street. The place isn't very big, but provides a nice cozy feel.

I go to this place for lunch fairly regularly. It's pretty quick, pretty cheap and really delicious. Ingredients always taste fresh and they don't put excessive amounts of rice on the rolls.

I usually get a yam tempura roll, an avocado roll, and a kappa roll, all on brown rice, and it comes to around 10$ including tax and tip. Sometimes if I'm feeling like treating myself I will get the avocado mango roll or the avocado yam roll, also on brown rice. They're super amazing. A little pricier, but worth it.

The restaurant is usually pretty crowded around lunchtime, but service is still quick and friendly - I can be in and out in 20 minutes.

Me and a friend found ourselves with an itch for sushi today, we found ourselves having to decide between sushi bang and the sushi joint right next door. We couldn't decide so flipped a coin and landed at Sushi Bang.

The tables are so close together you feel like you are sitting at someone else's table which is not at all the lunch experience we were looking for. The corner seat beside us opened up so we politely asked to move, the waiter acknowledged we were moving, took the dishes but never wiped the table, gross!

My friend asked for a substitution and the waitress all of a sudden turned into a rude bitch for lack of a better word. He was willing to pay more for the substitution and instead of being nice about it she took a defensive tone and acted like we were trying to rip them off. She was sour towards us when she brought the bill as well.

The food was not bad and the price was alright, their salad dressing was the best I have had, the teriyaki was also quite good however the rolls that come in the boxes are pretty plain unless you substitute which apparently results in you being treated rudely!

The food is not worth it for the service we received. I may stop here for take out but I sure as hell won't be "dining" here again!

We went for sushi today at Sushi Bang because Sushi Boy is out of the question.

The place is very small and crowded but the service was OK. It wasn't spectacular but we got a few refills on tea and nobody was rude to us like the other reviews on here suggested.

I got one tataki combo and a catepillar roll for $22 something after taxes and tips. It's a bit pricey considering there wasn't much food on the plate but it was pretty delicious. I was surprised how good the catepillar roll was. The tataki combo was pretty good too in terms of flavour but the portions are pretty small.

All in all it was an OK experience. The food was OK for the price and the service wasn't atrocious. I saw a heck of a lot of people coming in for take out, which is probably a better option since there's so little space available in the restaurant and the seating wasn't exactly the most comfortable.

I always worry a little when I see prices that good.  But the place is packed and from sitting at the bar, it's really obvious that a *ton* of people get take-out at lunch from here.
Decent menu - I've never seen such a great selection of veggie 'boxes' - and extremely well priced - $6.95 for veggie tempera, veggie teriyaki, salad, yam tempera roll and miso soup is insane!
Not the best food I've had (they had pre-cooked some of the veggies for the teriyaki but they let them cool too long and didn't warm them back up properly), but on a day I didn't have lunch, it was a success.

I ordered a special that included miso soup, six California rolls, six yam tempura rolls, and six tuna rolls for $5.95. The soup was ok, although the miso paste didn't settle at all. I really enjoyed the California rolls and yam tempura rolls. But, the tuna rolls tasted strongly of lemon juice, and weren't great.

Service was friendly and attentive. Food came very quickly.

Pleasant visit and, for the most part, a very decent meal.

This is a pretty good sushi spot. I always try to go to the smaller establishments because I usually get the impression from larger sushi places that they want more turn over so they rush you through your meal. SushiBang doesn't rush you at all. The service is nice and pleasant.

I really think that the two biggest things that work for them though is the name and the location, right by the brand new Broadway Cambie area is a can't go wrong. I mean there isn't really anything crazy special about SushiBang, except for maybe the caterpillar roll, but I mean most sushi shops are doing that now, basically just adding an ingredient then slapping on an animal name like Dragon. Anyway, if you're in the area and want sushi, go here, you won't be dissapointed.

Used to be quite good. This time we had a few of the appetizers and they were all ridiculously bad. The spinach and chicken were about half the size of what they should have been. The sushi itself was ok. There are now a lot better places..

I used to work around the area so I'd often go to Sushi Bang and you get what you pay for.  The food is super cheap but it's also sub-par.  The simple rolls tend to be tastier but the more difficult the roll, the less satisfied my taste buds always end up.

Once I ordered a Dynamite Roll and the tempura part (which should be the best part) was wilty and all the contents were falling out.  The sashimi in the salad I ordered tasted funky so I didn't even finish it.  A buddy's wife got food poisoning.  The reason I didn't give it 1 star is because I always ordered Tamago (egg) rolls there and they were always delicious.  But again, the simpler the better!

I've been here once and I quite enjoyed it. It's fast food sushi that actually tastes good! I've always wanted to come back, but for some reason I have yet to do so.

My partner and I ordered the salmon roll, spicy scallop roll and other rolls that most Japanese restaurants cant' screw up on - and they didn't! For a little place like Sushi Bang, I was quite surprised with their quality of food.

The prices are decent and not over priced either!

Considering Vancouver has so  many sushi spots, I have felt compelled to try as many as I can find. I still have a few places I want to check out but this place has had my attention for the past month.

The service is mediocre, they mess up your order occasionally and sometimes if you order by phone, you will have to reorder when you get there. You are probably thinking "wow that sounds terrible, why do you give it 4 stars?!". The answer is simple, the sushi is pretty damn good and it's cheap. I haven't been able to order anything but the sushi special ($6.66 with tax) since I started coming here. The yam roll(my fascination since moving to Van, never had it prior) is really flavorful, the california roll and tuna roll are always taste very fresh and the miso soup is pretty awesome as well.

For the price I think it's great quality compared to other "sushi on the cheap" I have had.

If I ever get around to trying anything else here, I will update.

Fast Food Sushi!   The sushi's not bad & it's a good place for a quick lunch, but I rarely eat in there, I always take out.  The place is always busy though.  The lunch specials are pretty good - the usual chicken or beef teriyaki box with sushi, tempura, miso soup for $6.95 & the 18 pieces (I think it's California, yam & tuna rolls) of sushi with miso soup for $5.95.  They also have 6 special rolls that are $2 each daily.

If you pre-order the day before, they'll give you 10% off when you pick up.

I've walked past Sushi Bang a few times and notice their special 18 piece    + miso soup deal for $5.95. A good price indeed and made a note to eat there soon. When I did go there I was greeted immediately by the staff. They were great - prompt, friendly and informative. As I perused the menu I found the "meal deal". I was disappointed because it had California rolls in it and I'm not a fan of them - otherwise it would have been a great deal. If you enjoy the items on that special go for it! I opted to just pick my favs: dynamite roll, avocado roll and yam tempura roll. When my food was served I noticed right away that the pieces were a good size. What I mean by that is they were not enormous. I dislike eating pieces of sushi where you almost dislocate your jaw trying to fit an enormous piece in your mouth. These were the perfect size. It made eating more enjoyable. On the downside and why I don't give this place 4 stars is that  my yam tempura rolls were served cold. I prefer them warm as I find the flavour is more intense. I also found the dynamite roll cold and less flavourful than at other sushi places I've visited. I know these were prepared earlier in the day. No real problem with that but I just prefer my sushi that has tempura items in it warm. Otherwise this place is a good spot for half decent sushi at reasonable prices & friendly staff.

    One word

    GYOZA!

I really miss working around Broadway because I would always eat here. The sushi has been consistent and tasty every time I have gone and I can't leave without  ordering their amazing gyoza.

It's normally really packed with people and it's not very comfortable to eat there so I would take the meal to go.

This place is moderately priced compared to other sushi joints and there food is always filling without being to heavy.

About 8 years ago, I lived only a few blocks away and used to come here a couple times a week because it was "cheap and good". As an aside, my brother and I love to make comical note of sushi places that seem to have a loose English translation and "sushi BANG" is one of our favs. Anyway, I come back today after several years and see that the place has gone under quite a lot of renos - nice! It's clean, the sushi is not AS cheap as it used to be but adequate and the quality is good. 4 bangs!

Great place to grab a quick, cheap bento box on the way home.

Service is usually great, and I don't know a lot of places you can get so much food for $6.50... I never leave hungry.

With all the changes that Sushi Bang has undergone, I feel they have sort of hit an uncomfortable middle ground. They are now nice, but not that nice. They are now not that cheap, but not that great either.

I liked it better when it was cheaper. If I wanted fantastic sushi, I would go elsewhere.

Where have you been all my life?  I stumbled upon this little gem of a restaurant last night and was very impressed.  Beautiful Japanese food at a reasonable price.   It's not Tojo's but it's close and without the bill. I spent $22 on seaweed salad, some gyoza, avocado mango roll and scallop roll (both of off the chef's special). Fantastic.  This is more than the plethora of "Bento box" shops. As for the service?  Shy but polite. It's not a performance... Which is nice in some way.
