I struck out at a lot of sushi joints in Ottawa before I tried Sushi 88. It's not phenomenal, but they serve up fresh fish for OK prices in a clean and cozy environment.

Sushi 88 is a good restaurant. I've been there for many a dinner. The fish is fresh, the rice is well seasoned and they offer many vegetarian choices. I would never avoid going here, but as a fish eating sushi lover, it's probably not my favorite Sushi restaurant in Ottawa. It would, however, be in my top 5 choices.
My only criticisms would be as follows:
1. If you're planning on eating here during a "busy period", meaning Thursday to Saturday for dinner, ensure you make reservations. Seating is limited.
2. The menu isn't quite as creative as other restaurants such as Genji, Sushi Fresh or Festival Japan.
3. The tables are a little too close together for my liking.
4. I feel like the prices are a little too high for the potion size. -

Sushi 88 is much nicer than it appears from the street. The restaurant is small and cozy and has an up scale design. It was decorated for Halloween which is a nice festive touch!
Now, for the food. The sushi itself is as good as any other I've had in Ottawa. The prices are on pare with other good quality sushi spots. The food is beautifully presented.
The one drawback is the speed of the service. The waitress was serving the entire restaurant solo and, as a result, it took a while for our order to be taken and food delivered.
Overall, definitely worth checking out. -

A friend and I had heard good things about Sushi 88 and were in the mood for sushi, so we thought we'd give it a try. If you've never been there before, the restaurant is to the left of the sign. If you walk in through the right side, you'll be inside Raw Sugar Cafe instead, which is a completely different business.
We found the restaurant to be small, but quaint and clean. I ordered their "Sashimi Just for Me" combo with miso soup. The miso soup was just like any other you would find at a sushi bar. The sashimi came very quickly, with a good variety of different types of fish. It was fresh and good quality, better than the sashimi I've had at other restaurants. I found it to be a little higher in price, though not by much. I'm planning on going back very soon! -

Very nice date-friendly decor. Service was okay, if a touch amateurish.
Sushi was alright I guess, not terrible, not phenomenal. Tea was good, and free.
Some of the menu items don't match what's actually delivered. e.g.: The "Rock Star" says 18 pcs on the menu but it's actually 11 pcs.
Nice spot for a date as long as your companion is not a sushi aficionado. Or perhaps stick to maki rolls which are less fish-centred. -

Sushi in Ontario, except at the most upscale of places, is always going to be inferior to the coasts, but this place is better than most. I ate here in the past couple of months once with a friend and again by myself. Their mixed nigiri are big (this seems to be a trend that has caught on in the past few years). The sashimi was surprisingly fresh, and as a huge eel nigiri fan their unagi special was irresistible. I wish more places offered it! It's rather pricey -- a generous plate of sashimi (loved the smoked tuna and scallop!) with miso and a nice wakame (seaweed salad in light vinaigrette) came to nearly $38.00 with taxes and tip.

The spider roll was AWESOME!!! Black dragon roll... delightful as the flavors just melted in your mouth. Love the decor, cozy and staff were very friendly. Will come again.
Highly recommended.
Update: Have come again. Sushi is consistent and fresh. Staff continue to be friendly. Recommended it to my Toronto co-worker who brought friends, they found it simply delish! -

Three of us showed up when they were supposed to close and they stayed open and gave us a table. Service was awesome. Check that the service was epic. Food was great. Prices were reasonable. Highly recommend sushi 88

They have only 11 tables, so you may want to make reservations. I had the red dragon roll which was amazing! Their menu had a section for first timers (those who might want cooked sushi). They had one server the night I went, she was able to serve all 11 tables and taking payments for the several pick up orders as well as being polite and efficient.
