This place is great for necessity. they have all the classic americanized taco shop food with a dual drive thru. I haven't been in a while but I like to compare this taco shop to a solid rock, dependable.

the good: quick mexican eats on convoy which is saturated with asian restaurants. Choco taco!!!

the bad: nothing really. unless you're a vegetarian

One of the first places I ate Mexican food in San Diego, this place will always have a special place in my heart.  I have many fond memories of me and friends hanging out here after midterms and finals, clubbing in downtown sd, or recovering from a house party.

That being said, this is absolutely the best place to get a california burrito or carne asada fries. There's something about their hot sauce that compliments their dishes and that makes it much better than Lolita's, Habeñero's, and Roberto's.  The crunch from their crispy fries in their California is refreshing and flavorful.

This is the first place that I take friends visiting from out of town when they ask for mexican food.  I have a couple friends that make the trip from Oxnard just to have a california burrito! That's a 2 and a half hour trip!  When friends come back to visit, their first meal back is something from Sergio's!

The outdoor shack is much different than it's National City counterpart, but the food tastes the same.  It's a little smaller and they have upgraded their dining area in the last 3 or 4 years.  There used to be stone tables and benches as well as a few plastic ones.  Those were replaced after a car going through the drive-thru rammed through half the dining area with standard picnic like tables you would see at any other fast food restaurant.  There used to be a pretty nice breeze that went through, but now there are plexiglass windows that block the breeze.  Upside: when you go during the day, you get to soak in the San Diego sun. Downside: It gets really cold, especially in the winter months or when it's been raining.

All in all, everyone in San Diego should try a California Burrito from here; it's a rite of passage to the San Diego mexican food scene.

This little shack has one of the best Mexican food in town. Decent carne asada fries, but great California burrito, and amazing shrimp burrito. If you haven't tried the shrimp burrito from them, definitely try it someday.

The restaurant also employs the now-trending semi-open walls that lets you enjoy nice San Diego sunshine and breeze! Forget Rigoberto's, forget Roberto's, forget Vallarta's, Super Sergio's is the place to be if you want delicious Mexican food.

Their standard bean and cheese burrito is pretty good and their red salsa is solid. No complaints, pretty good typical Mexican fast food.

Recently ordered the California Burrito through the drive thru. The following morning, woke up at 0130 from nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Unfortunately, I could not keep up with the amount of fluids being lost which ultimately resulted in a high pulse, dehydration, and a 100 degree fever. After a few hours, went to the emergency room, where they gave me IV fluids for rehydration and Zofran to prevent the vomiting. Ended up missing work that day.

    The burrito tasted great though!

Open 24 hours, drive thru, decent Mexican.  Always a go-to when it's late, late, late at night and we are starved.  Love the way they make their tortillas - toasty and crispy almost.

I don't know diddly squat about SD but this  location must be the late night spot for my Asian people to satisfy their Mexican munchies! I swear everyone who went there while we were there was über FOB. Nothing against fobbies, just stating my observations.

The food is about as good as you can expect from a late night joint. However my late night allegiance belongs to Super Sergio's cousin Roberto.

The food wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I ordered 2 asada tacos and my partner in fattie crimes split a carne asada fries. The asada lacked flavor and had to be rescued by some lime slices. The meat to fries ratio was noticeably less than what I'm used to @ Lolita's and Roberto's.

Like I stated before, it's not the best but at 1am you can't be picky ( unless you're in Vegas. I know I'm spoiled)

Out of the million choices for Mexican food in southern California this is for sure my favorite.  I hope you're not expecting upscale and classy Mexican dining because this place isn't it.  I'm not going to claim that this place is even 100% authentic Mexican food. What this place is is the perfect late night, Mexican food fix.

Their carne asada fries is what I usually get and it's always delicious.  The red sauce that you can add on is a must for me although the carne asada fries are still good without it.  I haven't tried many of their other dishes, but my other friends can assure you that they are good (ie: california burrito).

They only have outdoor seating, so if you go late at night be sure to bring  jacket.  Also, their "parking lot" only fits about two spaces, so try to carpool or just use the drive thru.

And now I'm hungry thinking about this place again...

Next to Mexicali, Super Sergio's is a stable in my Mexican food diet. Every time I go back to SD I head straight to the dinky, standalone shack on Convoy. Sergio's looks exactly the way I left it years ago. Two drive thrus although I suggest to use the one on the right as you will have to reach over to the your passenger window if you order on the left.

My meal: California burrito (comes with carne asada, but I have asked to substitute chicken/pollo in the past) drowning in Sergios salsa. It comes with meat, chopped up tomatoes, cilantro and onion, yellow cheese, and FRIES. The cheese melts nicely onto the hot fries and meat, and there are no words to describe the first bite. FOODGASM. I have yet to find a Mexican place in LA that makes cali burritos like this!
It's always a nice treat when I am in town.

This is one of the few Mexican places in the Clairemont area that I frequent. It's open 24 hours making it a perfect place to eat after a night out or just for a late snack. Their burritos and carne asada fries are extra delish compared to some of the other shops in the neighborhood.

I had a recent encounter where they had messed up on my order. I want to give 5 stars because they provided such exquisite customer service. They forgot to give me sour cream on my order of carne asada fries (which I paid extra for), but I didn't notice until after I got home. I gave them a call, and immediately they were apologetic and wanted to compensate. Normally I wouldn't even bother, but sour cream is such a vital part of the fries that it was difficult to enjoy without it. I drove back and not only did they give me a generous order of the perfect box of carne asada fries, but they also offered us drinks free of charge. Not one but two.  Although it was a hassle to drive back and forth, I was more than pleased with the way they handled the situation.

Sergio's was the ulimate comfort food in the middle of night. Since it was opened 24 hours, we would just go through the drive-thru and buy loads of food to take home and eat and save for the following day. The outdoor seating isn't all that great but it works, especially if you have midterms or finals to study for and want to prolong going back to studying.

I always get the California burrito with fries inside and the Carne Asada Fries.
I have never tried anything else which makes me sad but I can't stop myself from ordering this every single time. The portions are so big you could probably split the burrito in two and have at least three people dig in to the fries.

I wish they would make burritos with fries in LA. Took my LA friend to get California burrito and she's on a mission to find one here.

Got the carne asada fries. I don't see what the fuss is about, except it's a place to go and get late night food.

The fries were just fries.....seemed lighly cooked. A layer of greasy meat, light green guacamole puree and some cheese. It was alright, edible, palatable, but I think there's better out here.

Recommendations: It's okay if nothing else is open, but at best, only scratches the late night munchies itch momentarily.

I'm with the other Yelp'ers on this place. I like it.
I've had the fish tacos, the Carne Asada, a Surf & Turf Burrito and all have been very tasty. I got the Chili Relleno's and they only rated a meehhhhh.
Carne Asada was very good though, so I would recommend that. It's just a place to drive up, get food and leave, so don't expect anything more.
Food is good though. I saw a number of people ordering the California Burrito, so that will be something I try in the future.

The past 4 California burritos I have had from here have been A+ awesome!  I love how fresh their pico is.  No sour cream or anything else here.....just carne asada, fries, cheese and pico.  They have the best tortillas of any taco shop in San Diego too.  The price is right $5.36 after tax and the size is good.  Its a burrito you can eat while driving.  Man these things are great!

So, the exterior of Super Sergio's, coupled with the fact that it's open 24/7, makes it appear really shady. It's essentially only a drive-thru, unless you're willing to sit outside on a makeshift patio with a plastic covering. But oh, their California burrito alone is worth the risk!

San Diego is known as the original home of the California burrito, which is basically just your standard Mexican burrito with all the fixings, but stuffed with french fries for carby goodness. Sergio's definitely has one of the best in town and is definitely superior to Cotixan. Their burritos are much more flavorful and they are also more generous with their portion sizes. Don't forget to ask for extra hot sauce - it's THAT good.

Warning...there is a bit of a language barrier here, considering my b/f ordered a carnitas taco and ended up with a honkin' plate of nachos!?!?! Nonetheless, he was charged for a carnitas taco...so I guess all's well that ends well. Btw, the nachos here are pretty bomb too. They come smothered in lots of fresh pico de gallo, cheese, guacamole and meat...but unfortunately, the chips get soggy pretty easily.

I was working late  and was super hungry, so stopped by this super spot.  Tiny place with two drive thru? Went inside the patio to order, bunch of dirty tables and a simple menu.

I got a carne burrito($4.89) and 3 rolled w/ guac($2.89). Soon as my butt hit the seat my food was ready, super duper fast! Got home opened the  bag ,normal sized burrito and rolled had a healthy amount of gauc and cheese. Burrito was average tasting and the rolled were pretty good. The salsa, red only was good.

I think that super Sergio is over compensating for something , because there wasn't much that was super about this place. Maybe I need to be super drunk and eat here at 3 am to get the full experience.

O yeah their open 21 hours each day, that's what makes them super!

    Excellence: ¡Muy bueno!

*****After looking at the photos? Maybe they have changed owners or something, photos look a lot better then what I got?

I went here because it made The Best Burrito list in the Weekly Yelp e-mail.  Burrito Taste Test?  I'm up for that challenge.

There is no official parking lot.  Big shocker when you find out the place has two drive-thrus.

There is a little, semi-outside seating area with the old school plastic booths.  Cozy enough when it is on a busy street like Convoy.

CA burrito only comes with pico de gallo and cheese.  So I had to pay the 90 cents extra to add the guac.  The burrito was quite tasty, but wasn't as packed as my fave taqueria.  They serve fountain soft drinks, which I always enjoy more than the can.

A-OK, but definitely not my favorite.  On to the next one...

Thought I wrote an update for this place, but guess not.

Went back here a few months back while slighly intoxicated and was severely disappointed. Not by the quality, but by the quantity.

We ordered carne asada fries and they completely jipped us. I don't know if it's b/c they had a lot of orders, but either way I have not been back. They used to be so generous with their portions and had cheese and guac oozing out the top, but this time, there was a complete corner that was missing fries.  It was really bad. The thing was only half-full.  That on top of the usually rude people behind the counter made for a bad experience.

I have not been back since then, but am willing to if someone wants. I'm hoping it was just a fluke, but if I go back and it happens again, I'm dropping my review to 1 star. Don't get me wrong quality is still there, but shiesty-ness trumps any quality.

PS isn't it ironic that we're talking about quality for a hole in the wall taco shop. you know you're from san diego when that happens.

Best food joints are always in the shadiest locations. Came here at around midnight with friends for a late night snack. I swear food tastes better late bc you know you're not supposed to be eating at that hour. It's no wonder obesity is a problem in this country.

Carne Asada Fries + Guac: Carne asada and shredded cheese on a bed of fries. Big portions and easily satisfied 3 people. Guac was an extra dollar and they definitely skimp on it, unfortunately.

I believe this place is open 21 hrs of the day. Awkward number, but whatever. This isnt a place you'd come to for the ambiance as you'll prolly find the tables sticky, which also means you can expect good food and to leave with a happily stuffed stomach.

It is a hut on the road Mexican Restaurant.

Literally a hut, with two drive through's and outdoor seating.

I've only had one item but God was it amazing. I always got the Pollo Asada Burrito, and let me tell you, it is unlike any other pollo asada burrito in San Diego. The toritlla is crispy, the meat juicy with white sauce gushing out. The chicken is also grilled and it adds this flavor...

Plus it's normal Mexican Burrito price so you're paying average Mexican Burrito price. This place is pretty win. Oh yah it's also 24/7

There aren't many quality taco shops near me, TRUST. I go here after a night of boozin' or if I don't feel like cooking. Its a reliable late night/last minute taco shop. It doesn't have the BEST carne asada but I usually go for a beef taco and after taking out some of the shredded lettuce its OK. Plus their salsa is delicious. That ALONE earned them a star.

The main benefit of Super Sergios is that they are open late (21 hours a day) and they have a drive through. Actually they have two - though using up to a passenger side drive through is tough without a passenger.

I needed a late night dinner, and a California burrito sounded good, so I came here. Instead of waiting in the really long drive thru line, I parked and walked up to the counter and ordered a Cali with carnitas. $1 extra charge for the substitution. bah!

it took a while for my burrito to be made, but i think i still ended up a little faster than if i had waited in the line of cars. meanwhile i sat under the slightly flickering fluorescent lights, staring at the menu while another couple sat, dining and playing with their phones. Finally the burrito was made, and the staff graciously swapped the standard red sauce containers for green sauce at my request. Got it home... burrito was good not superb.

Decent, and open late! Dining in the covered area late at night is probably not that fun - you get to suck up all the exhaust of the cars in the drive through lanes. probably it's worse during the day, with greater traffic on convoy, and the sun...

Price is decent. Berto's breakfast burrito is what I get mostly. Beware though, theyll charge you 0.90 cents extra for anything...maybe more for cheese.

The only knock I have is that they have a 1.00 surcharge for breakfast burritos after 11am. Really? Is it so hard to pull out the ingredients after a certain time? Ridiculous...

The dining area isnt five star, it looks like a outdoor shack put together. But that shouldnt matter..

Went here on a late Saturday night after the club.  Sadly a couple of my friends were drunk dead so they passed out before they can taste the awesome.

A new friend of mine mentioned this place after On Broadway.  He proclaimed that this place had the best carne asada fries.  So 4 danced out guys agreed on Sergio's.

We arrived and I was happy about 2 things.  The first was that this place was 24 hours.  Second, drive thru.  Didn't want to deal with the other guys that were in line.

We drove up and asked for 4 carne asada fries.  The guy tells me 29 bucks.  What the heck!  I freaked out a little, then computed in my head, oh, it's more than 7 dollars for each order of fries.  I'll accept that.

The wait was actually not as long as I thought it would be.

It was great.  Food was awesome.  We basically inhaled the fries, which made me realize.  The guys that cooked this food decided to skimp out on some of our orders, so it made me a little disappointed that they would do that.  But, the night was late, I was hungry, so I didn't care.  I was just thinking about all that food in my stomach.

Try it out.  I'm sure you'll be satisfied like me and my 3 friends.

This is definitely my #1 spot for fast Mexican junk food! The place looks pretty shady and I've always used the drive thru (which is easy because they have 2 of them!) The food isn't over priced because the portions are huge. They're one of the few I know that use guacamole on their carne asada fries which makes them pretty amazing.

I never leave with the wrong order or unsatisfied, have had just about everything on the menu and no disappointment! Always a great late night adventure!

This is my favorite place in San Diego for carne asada fries. The salsa is mild enough for me so that I can drench my food without being burned alive.  I've tried different things here such as the fish tacos and burritos but I always come back to the carne asada fries.

Don't expect too much on atmosphere- its a hole in the wall like many great Mexican food joints but clean enough. Prices are very reasonable because overhead is probably very low. The staff is friendly and responsive to requests.  Whenever I'm back in SD, I always try to make a pit stop here. Love it here!

Oh Super Sergio's, you have always been a late night staple in my diet.  After a good night of being in downtown, I would always have to make the trip to your location for one of the Best Breakfast Burritos that I have ever had.
The "Berto Burrito" is one of the most delicious items on the menu.  It has everything you could want in a breakfast burrito and more without overpowering the essential taste of an actual breakfast burrito.

    CARNE ASADA FRIES.
    With extra, extra HOT sauce.

    Thank you.

I didn't really like the California burrito because the fries were too dry, and made my throat go DRY =( That is not pleasant when you're hung over, and dehydrated to begin with.

    Open 21 hours =)
But not so friendly during busy hours =(

This place has THE best california burrito. I've tried Vallartas, Robertos, Rigobertos, Los Palmitos.. but the california burrito @ Super Sergio's is just superior. The burrito is about $6 and it's very filling, definitely cheap for its serving size. There's also something about their salsa... I hate using it because it's so good that i end up drenching the california burrito with it, and end up with what tastes like.. salsa. Either way if it's past 12am and you're not in the mood for IN-N-OUT, I highly recommend you try Super Sergio's!!

p.s. when you first see the place, it looks very sketchy (no windows or door) and parking does not make sense (this is why i'm giving it four stars)... but the food is good and the workers are very friendly/polite. (:

I'm going to have to renege part of my previous review =/.

Since, for unknown reasons, Lolita's & Cocteleria La Playita were both closed on a Monday (12.27.10), the only other place I could think of to take my LB buddies over was Super Sergio's. So...

Old news: Carne Asada Fries (I forgot price..) were consistently delicious, especially b/c I ardor crispy, thin potato fritters. B/c of this yummy-ness, 3 ladies, including me, ravaged the entire, massive entree.

New news: The same 3 ladies also ate each Fish Taco ($2.80), & that one was not bad.  But at the same time, I've had cheapier, fresher, & tastier ones elsewhere. And, in a whoooole other subject, the tiny bathroom in the back was surprisingly clean.

Breaking news (I guess ^_^): That hot sauce, this time, was simply not hot--err, spicy--enough =/.  And the same 3 chicas, who ALL love their foods added w/ that sultry kick, virtually doused both the fish tacos & carne asada fries w/ this weak sauce--literally.

Lolita's & CLP, why do you guys have to close.....

I'll be honest this review is pretty biased and incomplete. First thing is I've only gotten maybe 3-4 items on their menu over the years. Carne asada burrito, California burrito, rolled taco's and Horchata. I guess this is because I'm pretty picky about my burrito's. Having eaten them my whole life and all over the country I know what I like and I can definitely differentiate between that and if it's good or not.

Their rolled taco's are pretty good, I think their corn tortilla's hold up better to frying, the meat is shredded well so the whole thing doesn't come out in the first bite. The guacamole is pretty good and the sour cream is actually crema fresco which is a plus.

The Carne asada in the California burrito and carna asada burrito is good, flavorful, a bit tough for my liking, but that's mostly due to cut which I think it's flank. The slicing is against the grain and nicely sized. The French fries are only mediocre and the salsa fresca is overpowering. The hot sauce they give is generally weak, but you have to ask for the hottest version. The carne asada burrito is very similar, but could use more cheese and more evenly spread out. The tortilla was not overly floured, not too thick and doughy, flakey, but not falling apart.

Horchata is large and not overly sweet/grainy, perfect amount of ice and the preferred Styrofoam cup for thermal protection.
