I love H Mart, I wish they had one in MI, but this is the closest to my home - four hours away.  They now have mini-Best Buy inside the store... it gets busy on the weekends so stay away if you can, otherwise you'll have to endure the human traffic jam while shopping... since they offer free food sampling, more so on the weekends, people move slower (I don't know why, people just need to learn to move faster).

If you go often, make the HMart card, which can be used in any of their HMart's.

We LOVE this place. Today was the first time we had been at prime time on a Saturday and it's like Asian Costco, lots of samples which is totally cool because we have no idea what we are trying. I actually ate lotus root today, and small crabs in some kind of sauce, it was cruncy and awesome. I actually got my wife to gullet one down without too much fuss and muss.
I would highly recommend a Saturday prime time visit so that you can try the samples and 'get down wit it'
Had some fluke sushi with the light brown sauce and it brought tears to my eyes (wasabi was def in the house)
I love how the asian crowd tolerates us - thank you so much for that. We are trying ;-)
We tried our first 'bubble tea' strawberry mango. I think the family decided against the tapioca balls though :-) Without the balls I think they are totally down. The girls who helped us were very accomodating and helpful and they were young. Kudos to you girls.
Dinner on the H tonight - we'll be back

I just love this place. It's like a Korean Costco, so big and so much to choose from.  I bought some marinated beef and pork belly.  Their prepared food section is mouth watering. I also love their king oyster mushrooms-so meaty.  I was going to get some mussels, but most of them were open and it smelled really bad.

The little tofu station at Super H Mart makes me so happy. Several different varieties of tofu (from extra firm to extra soft) and FRESH soy milk are made on site, I believe. The soy milk (unsweetened/no sugar) is so dreamy - it reminds me of the soy milk my mom makes (we're Chinese, so clearly own a soy milk making machine) or the straight-from-the-source stuff I buy in Beijing. THE BEST. (Sorry, Silk!)

Plus, the ramen selection is pretty legit. I tried an assorted clam flavor one last night. Seafood-y to the max and delicious. Eaten with a ton of kimchi (Napa cabbage and cubed radish), some kimchi mandoo, and some marinated pork (grill at home), all courtesy of the selection here (and also J, who gave me the greenlight to purchase about 100oz. of kimchi to keep in our fridge for my birthday, bless his heart!).

BTW, the golden kiwis (read previous review) were nowhere to be found. Probably out of season? But I did pick up some awesome Korean pears, all individually wrapped.

Did I mention that I love this place? Come shop here, Korean food fans!

I still LOVE this place. We had lunch at the food court this weekend and got dukbokki (spicy rice cakes). So good and we had enough leftovers to take home for a late night snack. We also bought some fluke that was sashimi grade and the next day we made chirashi at home. Yum!

OH! I have a love-hate relationship with you.

    I love:
           - Biggest Korean Mega grocery store.
          - Small specialty stores within a store. Hair salon, pharmacy, house goods, bank, Fresh tofu store, bakery, accessory store, Hello Kitty toy store, water filter, japanese toilet, holistic health store, TV and cell phone store, clothing and several makeup stores including Shiseido. Oh, yeah don't forget the mini- Best Buy!
          -Great Korean-style fried chicken joint.
          - Interactive and fun for kids. The "fish market" part looks more like an aquarium. Live fish, crap, other sea things swim around everyday.
          - They make their own fresh kimchee at the store, using fresh ingredients.
          - Prepared foods: so easy to cook and eat when all the hard works' done for you.
          - Best meat selection. You can cook Shabu-shabu at home because they have a shabu-shabu cut meat, paper thin. Even WholeFoods doesn't have that.
         - Food samples during dinner time. Sometimes they have samples of Korean snacks like chips and cookies.
         - Little of Korea in Chicagoland

    I don't love:
-The food court doesn't represent the best Korean fares out there.
            - It's so big, I get lost. If I don't plan out my shopping, I'm spending a lot of time 'looking' for things.
           - Too many people. You are bound to bump (into) someone.
           - Unfriendly workers. Some are okay. Some are just plain rude.
           - Little of Korea in Chicagoland

Don't forget your H-mart card. Although I don't think I've really benefited from using it.

I think they have a good quality of produce, food, etc in cheaper price.  It's not because I'm a Korean, but I genuinely think there is little difference in quality between Japanese market and Korean market (but the stuff in Japanese market are usually more expensive).

If you are a Korean, it's a definite go to place for your everyday meal.  Even if you are not Korean, you will be able to find great deals on the produce, snack, etc.

The Koreans got it right here. Huge 10,000 sf. ft. store (old Cub Foods space) with high quality items at good prices, but you still need to be selective. The place is the cleanest Asian grocery I've ever seen and that includes the ones in LA! My hit list when I come here:

    1) The Poki hand made kimchee
    2) A case of Ichiban ramen
    3) Several live lobsters
    4) A chunk of salmon and tuna sashimi
    5) A small tray of uni
    6) Staples - cooking wine, sesame oil, wasabi, etc.

If you're non-Asian, you got to come here for the cultural experience. See specialized kimchee refrigerators, every seafood imaginable on display, fresh rice cakes popped right before your eyes/ears, food court with plenty of seating, sauna shop, Hello Kitty shop, live eels, and free samples in every aisle!

Big selection and parking lot makes you never want to go back to Argyle or the real Chinatown for groceries.

My friend and I were looking for a lunch spot. We had never been here before. We enjoyed our food very much (we had dumplings) and will definitely be back for lunch again. We also enjoyed walking the market and I picked up some food to prepare at home I have never tried before. We had a lot of fun there and we will return.

A few years ago I would have given this store five stars. But recently their prices have become so inflated compared to other stores that I don't think I am going to shop here anymore. I was here a few days ago and was astonished by some of the prices. Almost everything was higher than at Mitsuwa or Assi Plaza, and much higher than non-Asian produce stores such as Fresh Farms, Valli, and Joe Caputo & Sons. Here are some examples:

Portobello Mushrooms prepackaged 4-ounce container for $2.99. Do the math - that equates to $11.96 a pound. I hand pick gorgeous Portobellos at Caputos for $2.99 a pound and this week they were on sale for $1.99 a pound! Aloe drinks that are normally $1.99 and have been this price at Super H in the past were $3.99. Two-pound bags of red onions were $1.79. I buy these at Caputos for .49 or .59 cents a pound. Purple sweet potatoes were $2.99 a pound. I went over to Assi Plaza and bought these for $1.99 a pound - even Mitsuwa sells these for less at $2.29 a pound and I consider that a bit high! These were just a few observations about out-of-sight prices.

I am at a loss as to why they have increased their prices so drastically across the board, Obviously they still have devoted customers but I am not one of them. Aside from the high prices, they have one of the grossest bathrooms at any store in the area - the toilets are always leaking and filthy.

This place is CRAZY!!! Most Asian markets in the Chicago area are small and crowded. This place is HUGE! You can find anything you could freaking imagine and more manageable prices that Mitsuwa

They have a great prepared food section (the bulgolgi was quite good). I love all the diff meat options (bought some oxtail to try an oxtail stew for the first time and some delish pork ribs).

And the produce - if you are craving Asian produce this is the place to go. TONS of variety and again, reasonably priced!

I wish there was one closer to the city. This will have to be a special trip occasion. Definitely recommend it!

Man, I love this place. I have no complaints. I really don't.

Super H Mart is a really cool Asian grocery store. Well, it's really more than a grocery store; it is a grocery store but also has a bunch of little shops surrounding the grocery part of the store. You can also buy fresh sushi and seafood, produce, meats and all kinds of specialty times.

The service is minimal, but efficient. The cashiers are nice, even though many of them don't speak very much English. The store is always clean and organized.

I've never had a bad experience at Super H Mart! Highly recommend!

I love this place, they have absolutely everything I need grocery-wise. My roommate came here once for a haircut and straight perm (they have a salon near the front) and I walked around for almost three hours waiting for her, and yet I wasn't crying out of boredom because this place is huge. Although when you stick me there for such an extended period of time, I end up buying a ton of stuff, and the ladies giving out samples kept eyeing me like why is this girl still here.

I love the huge selection of fresh fruits and veggies, especially over the summer when they have a variety of peaches and cherries, and asian fruits like lychee and asian pear which are otherwise hard to find. The meat sold here is fresh and relatively inexpensive, and it's the only place I can find that sells precut pork
spareribs which are delicious when braised. Eat lunch in the bakery and food court area before you go shopping, because they sell a lot of tasty Korean food, and it'll prevent you from overspending if you grocery shop with a full stomach.

I had my shopping trip all planned out.
    1) Shop for fruits/veggies
    2) Take a break and enjoy some dumplings in the food court and then
    3) get some pre-marinated beef for bulgogi.

That's all I had to do, yet

    4) Ooooh, Red bean mochi (in the cart it goes)
    5) Ooooh, fresh salmon steaks (in the cart they go)
    5) Ooooh, live blue crab (in the cart they go)
    6) Ooooh, forgot to get some ready-made banchan--in the cart it went.

I love Super H mart. I often forget about coming here because I don't live very close.  Its a Korean supermarket, but it carries other Asian food products and staples. The fruit and veggies are very fresh and they sometimes carry the fruits that I've only seen in Asia.

And since we're talking fresh, H-Mart has an awesome seafood area.  They carry a wide variety of fresh fish, including sushi grade fish ready to slice into sashimi or nigiri.  The seafood is all fresh and the fish mongers will even clean and scale the fish for you.

The food court is great--I love the dumplings.  Besides the Korean food,  there's also sushi and Chinese food if that's what you're craving.  The kiosks surrounding the supermarket also make it able to get your hair done, a facial, a massage, buy some Best Buy products, get fresh baked goods--it can be a one-stop shop for everything!

Hmart is the quintessential Korean mega-super market with all the exotic fresh fruits vegetables from various Asian cultures, tanks of live fish, fresh Kimchee. and a small but fun food court.  There is a Korean fried chicken  directly across from the food court on your left when you enter that is basically incredible.

H Mart, you are ridiculously a one stop shopping center.  Not only did you have a laser Med Spa, Hair Salon, Sushi bar, Korean Bakery, a specialty store that sells the automated toilets, a bank, the largest korean grocery store and insane ban chan bar but now you've added an honest to goodness Korean Best Buy to your inner folds?!  A Best Buy with Korean Language support!

Me: Mom, don't buy a new printer.
    Mom: No Print,
Me: Mom, It needs new Ink,  Follow the picture.
Mom:  Picture? Where?  You do it.
Me: You want me to fly in to replace your ink? (blink, blink)  Never mind, I'll order you a new printer. (shaking head)

So, thanks for giving me a place to send my mom when she has tech issues!  You rock!!

I'm just going to watch and wait to see what other strangeness pops up at H Mart.

Holy shin ramen! Produce here is SO cheap!

I'm used to going to Trader Joe's for most of my produce (which is already cheap enough) and all of a sudden I'm confronted by all these prices I've never seen before in front of items! Look out for the weekly and manager's specials since honestly, I didn't see one that wasn't well under what I normally paid for them ($1.55 for an entire canteloupe, $0.55/lb vine ripe tomato, etc.).

The meats and kimchi were ... reasonably priced, but nothing really worth writing home or on Yelp about. There really was a nice selection of those two, though.

Now that I found out about Super H Mart, I'm going to be going to Niles for my one-stop-shop city (along with Target and Costco about a mile out).

I bought whole frozen lobsters here for $7 each...SEVEN BUCKS!!!  They have cheap seafood and amazing produce that reminds me of California farmers' markets - you can't recognize half the stuff (you can't find this kind of variety in your typical grocery store), but it's cheap, fresh, and plentiful!

And they have samples on the weekend so you can taste everything Asian, and maybe walk away with a new discovery or two.

A few gripes - their red meat is pricey, and their "banchan" (Korean sides) are not good.  I don't know if it's because they're mass produced, but they just don't have that deep, nuanced, hand made flavor that makes Korean food so soulfully good.

This is the best grocery store ever.

I admit it. I am a grocery store dork. Every time I go to a new country, or even a new region, I enjoy perusing grocery stores to see what kinds of crazy things I can find. Even if you don't share my enjoyment of international grocery exploration, you will love this place. Even if you don't like Korean food (but really, how could you not?), you will love this place.

They've got an amazing selection of produce, fresh (i.e. some are still alive) seafood, and really fun treats. Try the very unhealthy baked goods at Bini Bakery. Get some brown sugar/peanut/sesame seed-filled pancakes to the right of the registers. Buy some cucumber kimchi. Whatever you do, just go. It's awesome.

I've been coming here now for about 4 years, probably ever since it opened. Since I work nearby, it's my go-to place for quick lunch, good fresh produce and an escape to a different world.

I love trying new foods to cook so I'll pick up some Korean eggplant & peppers, or deep fried fish cakes (thank you Venice!) and then search on that interweb to find recipes.  Seriously, buy some of those fish cakes that are over by the kimchi coolers and make uhmook bokkum. Delicious!

Love, love the food court.  I can get fresh made sushi from Tokyo Lunch Boxes, decent pho bo at Wang's Express (when I don't have time to go to Hoanh Long), and the Korean specialties at Durebak are awesome.

Must stop at MiKaHoDo and get the warm, just made walnut-red bean delights.  Then to Bini Bakery for mango cake or the patbingsu - the red bean & fruit sherbet that must be shared, it's so big and refreshing.

I have yet to fully explore the seafood section and probably need a guide! They have marinated pork & beef slices that grilled up are bites of meat heaven.  Buy the marinated pork belly.  Go home and grill up 2-3 slices.  Put then between bread and swoon.  Yes, this is one of my very favorite places.

    A Marvelous Asian Market Mecca.

My final stop in the ambitious 'Conquest of Asiandomination: Chicagoland Whirlwind Week' adventure landed me here, Super H Mart. The ultimate and foremost authority in all things Asian grocery, and as anyone will tell you, the essential locale for shopping budget friendly without a shred of compromise.

Now I have to say, this place swiftly blew Joong Boo, my beloved, out of the water. While Joong Boo prevails in proximity to the city, H Mart triumphs in sheer size, capacity, produce, stock, aesthetic, price point, service and in-store dining options. That's a lot of triumphing.

I've literally never seen a store like this, ever. It's truly one stop shopping at its finest. From the mattress, electronics, home goods and travel agent vendors that line the galleria perimeter of the store, to the fully functional food court with at least a half dozen vendors and food types to choose from, the Super H is super, indeed.

My favorite pit stops, however, were undoubtedly the fish counter and the bakery. With a glittering miles-long fish counter that not only matches Whole Foods and Dirk's, but surpasses them completely, I was utterly in love. There is not a fresher fish at a better price to be found anywhere. Impressive! Then, of course, there was the bakery. Imposing in its own right and the apex of my visit, I could not resist the gorgeous goodies. Amazing egg bread stuffed with vanilla custard, fresh and puffy Hodo Kwaja (walnut cake), gooey sesame sticky buns, brown sugar pancakes, ahhhh... it was heaven with samples galore! Friendly faces doling out free fare? This is a must stop for any H Mart visit.

You'll find the endless aisles packaged with umpteen different versions of rice, noodles, snacks, cookies, sauces and then there's a variety of unique items, too (totally scored a 12-pack of quail eggs) as well as the 'American' aisle filled with Kraft, Nabisco and other U.S. packaged staples for the slightly less adventurous folk. See, something for everyone!

Super H Mart is undeniably the Disneyland of food... props to being just tall enough to get on this tasty ride!

As I am someone who is half Japanese and who cooks asian food a lot, folks over the years have suggested I make the drive out to Niles and hit up Super H Mart.  So approximately five years since the first time I had heard of them, I packed up the family and drove out there.

In very very short, it's solid.  Noodles, fresh fish, asian food stuffs, big bottles of soy sauce which I need, the biggest bottles of sesame oil I have ever seen... check.  Small food court emitting strong good smells... check.  For someone who cooks asian a lot, this is a great place to hit every couple of months.

If you go to Joong Boo or that place on Broadway cuz you don't want to drive to Arlington Heights... It's worth it.

Long version... But, but, but.  it's not the same as Mitsuwa.  Are there rows of orderly shoppers cheerfully making room for each other, never blocking aisles?  Hell no.  Imagine the person in front of you abruptly stopping, looking around and not even looking at stuff, and blocking the aisle.  Every impatient bone in your Chicagoan body will be seething.

The prices for everything looked good and had I the time I would have picked up more stuff and spent real time in the vegetable section.

I think the store is a bit bigger than Mitsuwa.  For those looking for Japanese food, it was there - I'm eating some rice crackers as I type this.

But I'm warning you folks who majored in asian studies who like asian food... the people flow in the store on a saturday is somewhere between annoying and fun to watch.

Next time I go it will be a Tuesday night and I'll go without my wife and kids... so I can spend more time staring in awe at the noodle selection, and the huge fish selection...

We were in need of groceries.. so we went to H Mart yesterday.

Highlights: the walnut muffins from that little shop-- they're just like taiyaki except they're walnut shaped with a chunk of walnut in each.  We got 18 and we only have 2 left.
House made tofu-- always a pleasure and must have, but this time they added carrot tofu and spinach tofu to the selection.  I'm pretty excited to try them.
Mochi- we got the cheap ones, which were about $2 for each pack of six.  So far, we've only opened the taro flavor.  Even our cat likes them.  Seriously.  (He also likes red bean paste and sugar cookies.)
Cara cara oranges-- they're quite possibly my favorite citrus and they were only $0.79 this week.
Prepackaged organic roasted chestnuts.  $0.99/pack with the H Mart card. Takes the work out of a nutritious and wondrous snack.

Negative:  Our cashier was rude.  We usually go to the same lady, who is always super sweet.  She wasn't there.  We got a new girl (she was actually in training) and she was irritated by something.  What? I don't know, but she took it out on us.  She asked for our H Mart card, so we gave it to her.  She made a snide remark about getting it ready before checking out.  Sorry, we just got that card.  Oh, and we're used to EVERY OTHER STORE with a rewards card allowing you to scan it at any time during the transaction.   If you want it shown BEFORE the transaction, post your sign somewhere other than on the till.  No one can see it until they get up there to pay, which happens after you unload your cart onto the belt.  Just saying.

Get the H Mart card-- we saved something like 8% on our bill because of the discounts.

Well stocked asian supermarket. This is likely one of the best in terms of variety. You can find almost any asian vegetable, fish, packaged goods, etc. The prices are competitive and the food is fresh.

Pros- fresh produce, huge variety of asian foods

Cons- average customer service, they should open up a location in Schaumburg

Hidden deals- Sign up for the mailer which includes coupons and deals that is sent to your house!

I agree with most of the reviews here.  H-Mart is great!  But as someone who has shopped here on a semi-regular basis, there are a few things that need to be said.  Yes, the first visit here is overwhelming and the excitement of being in such a massive Korean store takes over.  Then you spend 2 hours perusing the aisles and grabbing things you don't really need (4 packs of seaweed...really?).  I totally understand.  I get it.  But the more I've shopped here, I've noticed that, like any other store, H-Mart has some issues.

Unfortunately, I'm disappointed in the seafood department.  I've seen fish with cloudy, dull, red eyes, smoked salmon with mold on it, and a strong, fishy smell throughout the seafood department.  Not a good sign, people.  The other issue is with the produce being inconsistent.  It's great to see a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, and herbs.  But there are times when the produce is less than fresh due to low turnover during the weekdays.

Other than that, everything else is awesome.  Love the variety of kimchi, noodles, banchan, snacks, sauces, etc. etc. etc. available.  Love the food court and bakeries.  I've purchased quite a few things in the housewares department, too.  Don't let the 3 star review deter you from checking this place out.  There are a ton of great finds here, and the sheer size of it is worth the trip alone.  If you grew up going to Chicago Food (now Joong Boo Market), H-Mart is basically an expanded version.  Eat, shop, enjoy.  Just be aware of it's shortcomings and shop wisely.

    Oh. My. Gosh.

This place is so great. I just went here for the first time yesterday and was blown away. Immediately we walked into a huge area filled with produce, including some vegetables and fruits I've never even HEARD of! Right behind that there were just rows of tofu, sooo much to choose from!

Next up? Food court. I had heard I needed to come hungry to this place so I did, and my boyfriend and I got the Korean dumplings, which were delicious!

I mean I can't go on and on forever about what this place had to offer, I mean I could have literally spent hours there just figuring out what some of the stuff was. I will say that they did have some of the best seafood I've seen in a while, and I lived in Florida for 4 years. Seriously, everything from live carp, live tilapia, live eel, to scallops, squid, whole fish, fish filets, fish steaks, pickled fish. Everything.

Also, being a huge noodle fan, I was floored by the sheer amount of noodles offered, soybean, udon, buckwheat, ramen, rice, you name it. Same goes for dumplings, sauces, candies, they had everything. They also managed to have a whole aisle mostly dedicated to some American brand foods just so you could cover all the bases.

Overall, I couldn't recommend it enough, especially if you get sick of Dominicks and Jewel and their lack of variety. I will definitely be back!

My favorite Asian market of all time. My co-workers calls me "H-Mart Girl" because I'm constantly there and raving about them. Lol. Their produces are always fresh and everything I do need is always in stock. I've never left disappointed and I would love to bring my mother there if only she didn't live out of state. They have little stores and salons within the business. The only downfall would be the cashiers. They always seem so grumpy and rude. But I don't mind them so much so it's okay. I can't wait to go back there this Saturday with my sister.

This place has one of the best produce sections ever! Not only is everything fresh and clean, H-Mart sells those obscure tropical fruits and Asian veggies that Whole Foods/Paycheck misses. I'm talking lychee, longan, yellow chive etc. all for reasonable prices.

If you're lucky, you should try and get a box of the marinated rib eye from the prepared food section. They tend to sell out pretty quick and I can understand why. I can't quite perfect the sauce or tenderize the meat like they can, I don't even try anymore. Not to mention, its a potluck favorite!

Sometimes the variety of brands can get overwhelming. Want some udon? HERE'S TEN TYPES! Look! A whole AISLE of frozen dumplings! I suggest bringing a friend who is well versed in Asian snacks or someone's Asian mother.

I like it here, but it's a bit far from me. They have a wide selection of stuff. Though prices can be a bit high, but hard to find them all under one roof like here.

Sometimes they have specials on the seafood which is good.

Also, love how they offer the free samples.

Food court is ok, just a bit pricey. Like that they have that little bakery too.

I'm taking you down a notch. I have traveled your way because you live closer in proximity to me than your rival Plaza.  Yet on two separate occasions within one weeks time your fresh sushi salmon and tuna was not to your usual standards.
Why do I have to look for the one type of udon in several different places?
Sometimes hard to get back to my car without getting run over by other cars.  I have learned to NOT buy too much just so I can carry my packages in hand while getting back to my car in the lot and not worry about pushing the cart over speed bumps.
Yes you deliver on the goods, but the negatives are holding me back from visiting again.

We came here twice in two weeks because we loved this store so much. The store has mainly Korean cuisine products, but also carries a lot of other asian products.  They offer Korean raw marinaded meats and veggies as well as cooked foods. We got a veggie maki roll, stir fry vermicelli, and korean style omelette. All of them delicious!  We also got fresh fuji apples, lychee, cabbage, teas, guava juice, and a sesame soy drink (btw, delicious!).  They also have an area where they sell kitchen items like rice cookers, hot pot pans/plates, cookware and even hygiene stuff.  Prices are reasonable and parking is easy in their private lot.

The only issue I have with Super H Mart is that it smells like fish up in there.  In every aisle.  Don't go there if you're hung over or have super sensitive olfactory glands.

Aside from that, this place is dope.  Having never really cooked Asian food or been shopping in an Asian store, I encountered lots of cool things I've never seen before in the produce aisle and the prices are cheap enough that you can buy weird produce, try to cook it and not feel bad if the dish comes out a failure.  For the record, I know pomegranate is by no means exotic, but I had absolutely no idea how to cut the thing up or even how to eat it.  But it was so cheap I had to give it a go.  A solid location for adventurous fruit and veggie eaters.

The fish counter is like nothing I've ever experienced.  It's a seemingly endless supply of every kind of animal you can pull out of the sea and eat.  We're talking fresh fish filets, lobster, crab, shrimp... wow.  You can stock up on frozen, fresh and even live treats from the sea.  It's so reasonably priced I have to wonder how they do it... or am I just getting ripped off by the Jewels?  I'm probably just getting ripped off.

Aside from produce and meat/fish, H Mart has a pretty solid pantry section with lots of crazy Asian stuff I don't know how to use.  They also have Americanized things, but the selection is limited.  Really, though, you're in an Asian food mart for crying out loud.  What do you expect?

I want to go back to try the prepared food.  Who's up for a road trip?

I stopped in one day after dinner in the area, just to see what the hype was about.

This place stinks.  Literally.  Stay away from the meat/seafood area, as it just smells like rotting flesh.

On the positive side, it's big.  It has a lot of Asian products.  Fruit and veggie selection is decent, as are the dried goods.  If you're craving a salty snack, you'll find a lot of interesting flavors in their chip aisle.  Prices are reasonable.  They also have housemade tofu which comes in regular, carrot and spinach flavors.  I tried the regular, and was satisfied, but not blown away by it.  They also have a mini food court that offers everything from brown rice sushi to baked pastries.  Just for kicks, I checked out the houseware department and found it to be like a dollar store with the random variety of general merchandise that lacked in quality.  They carry hula hoops with magnets for those of you that fall for such health gimmicks.  I'll stick to my Chinatown shops for my grocery needs, but if you're a suburbanite, it is a good substitute.

Um, I'm sorry, but why is this H Mart some sort of elaborate maze? "Here's a freezer section ... oh wait, here's another freezer section around the corner, wtf?" Going grocery shopping here with a group of people was like going camping with fifteen boy scout toddlers who get lost in the woods every two seconds.

The bathroom was dirty and the girl next to me got her door opened on her bc the doors just don't lock very well. The lines are horrific and Asian people cut like mad -- I was forced to yell at a small Asian girl and made her cry. Her fault, not mine. And the salesclerks waste time doing silly things like checking my new $70 cooler that I just bought from the housewares department to see if I stole stuff. I just bought a $70 cooler, do you really think I need to steal my groceries, painted-in-eyebrows lady??

The packaged items are mostly Korean. I desperately wanted grass jelly, almond jello and ai-yu and none were to be found. *sad face*

I live in the suburbs of Chicago, and cant seem to drive all the way to viet town or china town in the city, when I actually want some asian groceries.  Most asian stores around my areas, have a huge variety of korean or Japanese groceries only.  So when I went to Super H Mart... it was such a relief to find this place.

I love it how when you first enter the stores, all the fruits and veggies are right in the front.  (plus all the food vendors. hehe)  But the best thing about this very entrance is.. it has a very large variety of fruits and veggies.  There are lots of fresh asian veggies that you can't find, however they carry it here.

Next, I am asian, and I must have rice... there is a variety to pick from and the prices aren't rediculous either for a 20lbs bag.  (yes I said 20lbs... we love our rice.)  I usually buy Jasmine rice...and the kind I am getting here is about $18 for a 20lbs bag.

As you shop around in this store, there are staff members out along the aisles cooking up something, and you can try this or taste that.  Which is pretty cool... cus there are lots of food I havent had before.  And I like to see how simple it could be cooked.

I also love seafood... and they have a very nice selection of fresh seafood.  I once got a whole seabass fish here... I got to pick whichever one I wanted, they scaled it and cleaned it out... packed it up in a clean bag.  And it didnt cost much either.  I must've paid like $6 bucks for it.  Which was awesome in my mind... the other thing that I always buy here is the shrimp.  The price is always just right here.  They are always fresh, and run for about $4.99 a lb.

Last but not least, I want to mention the frozen food section.  They actually have a very large selection of frozen food.  This is where I can get microwavable stuff for my man.  He can have instant asian food in the microwave when I'm not home. haha.  They also have a variety of ice creams, from popsicles to fruit bars and mochi's..

Yes!! go here for your asian groceries!!  I recommend it.. plus theres soo much to see and taste... that you wont regret it.

Their produce prices are as low as Stanley's Fruit Market. And you can keep them for a week.

I have serious love for Super H Mart. The store has everything I love. And the Bini Bakery?? I am guaranteed to blow my diet whenever I come close to this bakery.
