So I went to a friends wedding this past weekend down south and I wanted to stay in the same hotel as the rest of my friends so I stayed here. The staff (mother and daughter I think) was super super nice. They were understanding that I flew in early and I needed my room earlier than the check in time, like 4 hours early!! The rates are very reasonable !
I had the best time there but the Taco Bell near the hotel isn't open 24 Hours which was probably better for me :/
The rooms were clean, but they did smell like smoke and since I am a social smoker.. more like a drunk smoker I didn't mind. If you need towels or a blanket you have to go down and get them yourself. It is VERY self service there :)
Considering we partied a lot that weekend and I am sure we made LOTS of noise, nobody said one complaint - which was awesome! Once people start complaining and then it's a total buzz kill.
I loved how if your friend is across the way you can yell to them. It felt like a episode of "Three's Company" All of the cleaning crew were so sweet and I also asked for a late check in and they were so sweet!
It was the best weekend by far and that hotel hold lots of memories for me!
Mind you I asked for a early check in and a late check out - NO CHARGE ! I know I am a very demanding lady ;) -

This hotel is a slum. My wife went with a 4 star review through Wyndham Hotels, and the review was extremely misleading. Once we arrived there, we tried to transfer our stay to Mission Valley, but the owner/clerk said we either had to stay or "forfeit" our money. We then looked at a room, and it was absolutely rank with cigarette smoke. We were forced to "upgrade" to a "non-smoking" room, and although there was evidence of a hint of smoke. We felt stuck and went with it. Then we turned on the "air-conditioning unit," and that's when the hint of cigarette smoke literally blew stale smelling air with cigarette smoke mixed with it. Through the night we coughed, sneezed, and had sore throats the next morning. When we reported this to the owner, she said, "You walked through this room, and you didn't say anything." I then told her they did not have the a/c running. They didn't apologize, nothing. Do not waste your time, money, or lungs at this hotel. We are in the process of challenging the entire charge because of their misleading advertisements as they related to our experience. By the way, this hotel is Howard Johnson, . Final note, they refused to shred a copy of my DL and CC when I asked them to do so. Be careful with this place. We will never be staying at any Wyndham related hotel in the future because of our terrible experience here.

I actually ended up at this hotel as kind of a last minute thing... a friend of mine was down visiting from Orange County she wasn't quite ready to leave yet. (I just moved down here in January)
Because I didn't wan't any family grief for wanting her to stay I went online real quick and tried to find the cheapest room available for the weekend. (Sat. and Sun. night). I had went to http://cheapestrooms.com or something like that... that's where I found this Howard Johnson which was hands down the most reasonably priced hotel by far online. To stay the 2 nights and check out Monday, after tax I literally only spent $83 .
I was totally stoked about the price but when I actually look up where the hotel is located it started to make sense why it was such a good deal. That side of Mollison Ave. in El Cajon isn't the greatest part of the city at all... in fact 3 years earlier me and the same girl (my gf at the time) weren't 21, and the only place we could get a room in all of San Diego was the Valley Hotel ( Lets just say that place is all bad... im not even going to get into the environment and experience of that hotel) which happened to be on Mollison literally across the street from the Howard Johnson I committed us to. There were no refund on the HJ room I had just booked online either... My friend was livid... I really should have paid attention to the address and where I was actually taking her ...the past experience was that bad.
Once we actually got to the hotel and got our room it was a whole different story... We were trippin for nothing. The room was actually really big... King Size Bed, TV, Fridge, Microwave, Coffee Maker, AC, Free Internet (which was a bonus because online it said no internet), Breakfast in the AM. This place even had Shampoo Conditioner Soap and Mouth Wash! I didn't taste it because I dont imagine it would taste very good at all but it was just the fact that there was complimentary mouth wash if I wanted it... that was a first for me. The lady at the front desk was extremely nice and polite. She def. made you feel welcomed at breakfast time which is cool cuz most places they could care less.
I think we lucked out paying $36 a night at this hotel... it had to have been because it was last minute or because they had just switched companies from super 8 to Howard Johnson because I would have
def. spent 65-70 bucks a night easy for the experience we had.
Will definitely visit this location again when it comes to selecting a hotel. -

Stayed once while repairs were being made at my house. Owners wife was yelling at the housekeeper calling her "Stupid". Front desk clerk, Edna, was a prostitute turning tricks after she got off work (only wanted $50). Many drug dealers and prostitutes frequent this place. Not a place to take your family

We recently stayed at the Super 8 - El Cajon and were extremely pleased. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with more than enough room for the two of us and all our stuff, and the rate was EXTREMELY reasonable. The pool was attractive, the staff was friendly, helpful, courteous, and professional, and they offered an excellent breakfast spread in the morning. The hotel is right off the highway and is conveniently located to a number of things, and was an easy, pleasant drive to downtown San Diego. If you're looking for a simple, clean, and friendly place to stay, this is a terrific option! We'll be back!
