I have to say, this place is one heck of a find/steal!! I scoured reviews on http://hotels.com to find a good, comfortable hotel/suite in a good location at a good price. I think I scored on this place!

My boyfriend & I took a cruise from San Francisco to Vancouver. It was our first experience on a cruise and it was a short two-nighter, so I figured, why not hang out in Vancouver for a few extra days while we're here? Our final agreement was to stay for 3 extra nights in Vancouver before heading back to good ol' SF.

Upon arriving at the hotel, one of the first things I noticed was that it was in the gay neighborhood in Vancouver (I dunno, but the rainbow flags hanging from every lightpole around kinda gave that one away). So, with that in mind, we knew that there would be good eats & a lot of fun to be had in the neighborhood. The second stand-out thing that I noticed upon arrival was that the Sunset Inn and Suites, while it is one block away from Davie Street (where many restaurants/nightclubs/bars are found), the street that the building itself is on appears to be primarily residential, and therefore, a little more quiet than one might assume, given the aforementioned. Now, that's not to say that it's an entirely quiet neighborhood, but it's not as loud as one would think, given its proximity to many conveniences (and on a side-note, there's a 24-hour convenience store & a Starbucks, both right around the corner from the building).

I paid $123 per night (with tax included) on the http://hotels.com website. For that price, I didn't really expect much.

When we walked in to the hotel, the front desk staff were immediately pretty darned helpful. Our cruise ship arrived in Vancouver at 10:30am, so we arrived at the hotel somewhere around 11:30am to 12pm. We opted to go by the hotel to see if we would be able to check in for shits & giggles, but I didn't expect for them to have our room ready. Lo and behold, they did not give us a hard time about arriving early (I believe their stated check-in time was 2 or 3pm, the standard), but in addition to that, they gave us a top-notch room! The room we have (had) was on the 11th floor of an 11-floor building - sweet!!

So we get to our apartment (like the previous reviews state - an apartment is the best way to describe our place), & really, I'm not expecting much. We walk in and wow, both the boyfriend & I were somewhat floored by what greeted us!

I'll try to be as descriptive here as possible.

Upon opening up the door, there was a beautiful stone/tiled-floor entryway with two closets (the first of which had two robes in it, the second of which was more like a linen closet but it also had an in-room safe). A few steps in and to the left was the full bathroom (shower/tub combo), again with the stone/tiled-floor & a granite vanity. Directly in front of us was the hardwood-floored living room with a loveseat/sofabed, desk, coffee table, two side tables, a chair, a television stand with a 32" flat-screened TV & a small-ish dining table with seating & placemats for four.

The most stunning aspect of the living room was the (almost) floor-to-ceiling window that covered half of the wall straight ahead of the entryway. Through that window was a gorgeous view of the downtown skyline with snow-capped mountains in the background. To the left of the entryway was the bedroom, with a king-sized bed, two nightstands, a closet, a dresser & a television. To the right of the entryway (and living room) was the kitchen - a full kitchen (albeit small), with a refrigerator, stove/oven combo, microwave, full-sized coffeepot & one of those single-cup brew coffeemakers. The kitchen also had most things one would need for a short stay - namely cooking utensils, silverware, plates/bowls, cups/mugs, cookware & a dish drying rack. And lest I forget, off of the living room is a deck (I believe all units have one), with two chairs, a small table & an ashtray (for us smokers - all the units are non-smoking)!

My boyfriend and I kept peeking into all the nooks and crannies of the place & found that all of our needs would be covered for a much longer stay here! He was definitely impressed with my find in this place.

During the course of our stay here, we also used the concierge service offered by the front desk & they were able to take care of reservations to restaurants like it was nobody's business! They were also able to get us cabs on a few occasions and those cabs always arrived within five minutes (usually less) of them making the call.

This hotel also offers free parking in a secured garage at no additional charge, free wi-fi (although it can be kinda spotty - it was driving my bf crazy while he was trying to play WoW), a free continental breakfast daily, umbrellas for check-out, and they also have a small workout room with a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike & freeweights.

All in all, I highly recommend this place - for the quality, location & price.

What a awesome find.  The Sunset Inn & Suites is more like an apartment complex or condo you'd find in Hawaii.  The wife and I are in town (I'm sitting here using their free wi-fi to write this) and the room is fantastic.  Easily 700 sq. ft, with couches, the worlds best bed (I'm going to steal it and ship it back to San Jose)

Free breakfast, great location, helpful staff, secured parking, and really fair price for what you get.  I'll certainly be back next time I'm headed to BC.

I thought I reviewed this place but I guess not. I've been to Vancouver twice so far and both times I have stayed at this place. It's great location wise, with Davie st. (the gay neighborhood) just a block away, Robson St. (the shopping st.) just a few more blocks away, and Granville Island (the farmers market) just a 2 minute ferry ride away. Really reasonable prices, parking garage, and the rooms are really decent. Pretty much my choice if I ever go back to Vancouver unless I'm looking for something a bit more upscale.

Every year I go up to Vancouver Pride and I stay at the Wall Centre which is great, but this year my friends wanted to stay somewhere different.  Sunset Suite turned out to be a great alternative, one block from Davie and all the Pride Street Party this year.  Great location if your heading up to Pride.
