Came in on impulse instead of HMV.. Passed all the t-shirts and True Blood merch and headed upstairs to the classical and jazz section, which had a lot of good recommendations. I found the typed-up notes about certain CDs pretty informative. Paid upstairs and went downstairs where I bought a couple of used CDs. The sale (bogo 30%) made it especially worth it.
Next day came by and bought more used CDs. At the end of the day, if I'm going to go into a music store it's for the atmosphere and the sales. I didn't feel pressured, and it was great looking through rows of used cds for great (and current) albums at 4-6$ each.
Staff was pretty friendly, didn't feel rushed or bothered and overall it was a pretty good music store find. -

I sold Sunrise Records 4 DVDs for $1 each. I felt really ripped off, but took the cash anyway. I had no use for the DVDs.
Sonic Boom in the Annex provides a slightly better payout. -

OK so I'm back yelping - yes it's been a long time, but I chose this to be my first review because the Manager made a little girls Christmas dreams come true!
I was on a mission to get my 4 year old niece a Justin Beiber doll for Christmas....yes I know.....4years old and she's a Beiber freak....they grow up way to fast these days!
I had seen online at Toys R Us one that was for sale for $25! Perfect, it fit in my budget and was Purple....her fave colour. I took a chance at going to Sunrise First - seeing as it's closer to my house and I know that they carry items like this.
The store was jammed with ppl doing their last second shopping - just like me....yes I am as Sears USA would like to call it a procastasanta....you could hardly move in this store but I managed to get in and grab a doll....I was in shock that it was about $20 more at Sunrise then TrU.....so the bargain hunter in me kicked in.
I walked up to the manager and asked if they would match a price. Unfortunately he couldn't do it on that model, but he was able to do it on another one.....that suited me just fine seeing as I'm sure my niece will be bored of Justin Beiber in about 6 months.
The staff at the store were very friendly, very professional and VERY calm given the time of year.
Although I'm not as big of a music buys as I was in my younger days, I will be heading back to see the team at Sunrise for all of my music needs. -

Before I started going to lunch with the guys at work, I would spend every day here just browsing the racks. I have a bad habit of wanting a millions cds but never have the memory capacity to keep in mind what I'm looking for. So this equals hours of looking for a new gem. It's not the greatest selection of music and I really hate that half the music I listen to is split between "punk" or "pop/rock" even if they all sound the same. But it's a place to waste some time. Everyone seems pretty knowledgeable and unfortunately they always want to help. Which, yes, is great but when I'm looking to browse, I don't want to be asked a dozen times if I need any help. "No, I'm REALLY just looking."
For the most part, they'll order anything you can't find in store- as long as it's in their system. Any rare stuff, and let's be honest if you're looking for music in general, go to Soundscapes anyway. (Support indie, blahblahblah.)
Another reason to use Soundscapes instead of Sunrise is for your ticket-purchasing needs. Mostly because ticketmaster charges are a bitch. But also because the one time I was buying a ticket to Dashboard Confessional, I received a lecture from the employee of how much he sucks. I agree, but I'm buying the ticket for the opening band. "Still. They fucking suck and it's a waste of 40 bucks"
I'm not buying a ticket for your opinion. I'd almost rather have you make fun of me behind my back like the Rotate kids than have you bitch to my face. I haven't been back since. -

Contrary to other people's opinions, I actually like this store. If for no other reason than they are independent, no big budgets or ad campaigns & the staff is pretty on the ball. The only thing I don't care for is their need to push media whore garbage like 'Twilight' lunch boxes, etc. Although, they do have some interesting fridge magnets. (I collect them...I know, we all collect something). They seem to have an odd way of keeping inventory on CD's by taping index cards to them. WTF? Old school perhaps, but they've had a couple of hard-to-finds that I was looking for, and I happily bagged those suckers! My first love HMV is right across the street, but it doesn't hurt to check in here. I've actually found a couple of times that they were 2 or 3 bucks cheaper on some CD's.
