I mentioned Sunrise Pizza in a previous review and thought I'd better give them a little love as well.
Sunrise is a lunchtime staple around my office. We are there at least once a week and it's not just the cheap prices that keep us coming back, though it helps. Two can dine for under $20 with tip included! The service is friendly with our regular server greeting us warmly each time we come in and remembering our favorite orders. The Greek Salads is generous and mounded with feta, the club house is enormous and comes with a heaping side of always-fresh fries. You can't go wrong with an 'impossible to finish' plate of lasagna for under $6 and there is always a daily special.
The pizza at Sunrise is my favorite in town. The perfect blend of cheese and lots of toppings. The crust is nice and thick and obviously home made, not from frozen.
Stop by after work for a pitcher of Granville Island Beer and get a free appetizer. With $13 pitchers, its a steal of a deal. But only try the wings if your mouth can withstand volcano levels of hot!
Sunrise has a kitschy, 80's family joint kinda vie that only makes me love it more. Its definitely one of my favorite places to visit on the Drive and by far one of the best bangs for your eating out buck in the area!Listed in: Why drive to Commercial Drive?

Sunrise gives me that warm n' fuzzy feeling - it's got loads of old school charm, a steady clientele of dedicated regulars and a free appetizer with every pitcher of beer...sweet!
This place has a ridiculously huge menu - the kind of menu that makes you think, "This is way too big for it all to be good", and well, that's probably correct. My 4 star rating is for the Greek food only, which is pretty much all we order here. It's not fancy, but it's pretty damn good - the pita bread, calamari, greek salad and roasted lamb are especially yummy. The rice and potatoes are done well too, and although I typically regard those items as filler, I quite enjoy tackling the big mounds of carbs that accompany my meals here. The souvlaki can sometimes be a bit tough/overcooked, but at the very least it's seasoned properly. We've had the Greek Platter delivered a few times, which for just over $40 is enough to feed 4 people (or two people for dinner, plus leftovers for lunch).
We've also had the ribs, which were just OK. Worst part about that meal was the baked potato with MARGARINE that accompanied mine...ick. My husband ordered his ribs with spaghetti, which he liked well enough, but nothing special.
Although I've heard the pizza is really good here, I've never tried it - it's the kind that's about 95% cheese, and for someone who can't eat cheese, I'm a little worried about what would show up on my plate if I asked for it without. I'll stick to the authentic, thin crust places for my cheese-less pizza, but this place will forever hold a place in my heart for cheap beer, appetizers and Greek food. -

I walked into Sunrise Pizza last week and immediately felt like it was home cooked food. It was filled with people and very cosy. I ordered a lamb Souvlaki with a salad. The sauce that came with it was divine and everything to perfection. I could not finish all on my plate so ate the rest later. The wait staff were really fast (and friendly) even though it was super busy. The price range is pretty good for a family to go dine and you don't have to dress up.
We regularly order their pizzas and have no complaints :-) -

Plans for pizza at a girlfriend's home fell through so I, along with another BFF and my sis went there. We were greeted just as we were walking into the door and seated. It took a while for us to choose the pizzas we want (so many options) so we had one Greek vegetarian pizza and another one that is standard (pepperoni, mushrooms, green pepper and onions).
My friend went to use the restroom as my sis and I made the order, including calamari. The calamari came before our friend returned from the restroom...can you say 'Quick delivery?' That was pretty darn good..then our pizza arrive. They were FANTASTIC...lots of cheese...fresh ingredients too. Service was friendly and efficient.
One caveat: The pizza will make you very thirsty. It's a good thing this place is located on Commercial Drive. A visit to any gelato place on the drive will soothe your over-heated tastebuds (drinking iced tea with your meal is a bit limiting)! -

In keeping with the wide variety of restaurants on Commercial Drive, Sunrise Pizza is the staple Italian pizza parlor, cooking up pasta and steaks and serving them on red and white checkered table tops. The feel is nostalgic, quaint and sophisticated, sort of similar to the place where Michael shot the police chief in the first Godfather. Great for families, and homely dates.
A well kept secret is that every pitcher of beer comes with your choice of a free appetizer, the best selection of which would be the calamari. -

I'm not sure that I had ever noticed this place before I ate their pizza. We had it delivered, so I can't comment on the building.
However, the pizza was good! I would rank it higher than all the other walk-up places like, Fresh Slice, Megabite, Pizza Amore, Uno, etc. I'm not sure what kind of cheese blend they use- but it was really good. the crust was fluffy- but had no additional seasoning. A reliable pizza with the option of delivery! -

We returned there recently after having said we would not. It was later in the evening and we'd already walked the length of The Drive without finding any food. Most places were either closed or didn't strike our fancy. I will admit hunger drove me to give this place another chance.
I notice in the window that the sign stating that they are looking for Experienced Waitresses is still up.... if anyone is looking for a job ....
This time we didn't have the same problems with service as we were one of two couples in the place and the other couple was already eating.
I ordered the chicken souvlaki and it was quite delicious. Honey ordered some pasta with meatballs and said he was quite satisfied with his meal.
I'm upgrading this to a 3star as it was A-OK. This place is no longer on my 'do not visit' list, but considering all the other options on The Drive and elsewhere it might be a while before I return.Listed in: There and Back Again, Italiano, Tower of Pizza

Cheesy pizza doesn't get cheesier. Plus the free appetizer with EVERY pitcher of beer is pretty much the best deal on the drive. Awesome pitas. When craving some grease, this is where it is at.

Hands down the best pizza in town. And that's just one man's opinion.

Ok the line up at Marcello's is way too long to wait, I'm on the Drive and not wanting the ambience of Stella's or any of the other hang-outs, so down the hill for a great North America style pizza, I guess it is Canadian style or New York style (but not as big or foldable) definitely not Chicago style or Chicago's pretender San Francisco style. They have been serving pizzas for years and are a mainstay on lower Commercial.

After being disappointed by Uncle Fatih's pizza a few times, my boyfriend and I decided to find another pizza place on the drive that had delivery, and we found Sunrise. The pizza here is awesome!! I'm really happy with this place, the pizza is just the way I like it, the delivery is quick, and the service is friendly. We'll definitely be ordering from here often!
