Best. Takeout. Ever. Everything we've tried on the menu has been great.  The shawarma is unbelievable. The sausage and cheese pita is fantastic.

As others have said, not much in the way of seating, but so worth it.

The shawarma saj is great.  It, alone, is worth the trip.  The regular cheese pie is fresh, but overrated.  Perhaps the other cheese pie is better.  Recommended.

My friend took me here recently, and I was completely impressed with this place. Sunbake Pita Bakery sells freshly made pitas with an assortment of toppings, and everything is Halal. There was at least 10-12 different choices, including meat and vegetarian options. They are made in a fire-oven, which makes the pita slightly crispy on the outside.

We ended up ordering three pitas: ground meat, vegetable & cheese, and spinach & cheese. They are made like a pizza. You can eat them like this or have them folded over, like we did. I wasn't crazy about the meat one, but the spinach was so good. I love the sour taste from the cooked spinach, and it tasted very fresh. My favourite was the vegetable & cheese. It has broccoli, cauliflower, olives, onions, and tomatoes. It tasted close to what a pizza might taste like, but it seemed a lot healthier. Our total came to under $10, and we were stuffed. One pita each would have been enough.

They also sold plain pitas and other bakery items to take home. There was a fridge with many different kinds of foreign drinks, including lots of delicious fruit juice pops. I also noticed they sold fresh nuts. You can stay in and eat here, but there are only about 6 or 7 seats.

I'm really glad I tried this place; it's definitely one of my new favourites!

I don't get to the North side often enough as I live more central and am more familiar with the south, but I thought it was worth a trip when a friend told me about a bakery that sells fresh made pita and Halal meat pies. I am so glad I made the trip and found this Middle Eastern treasure!

I spent some time in the Middle East about a year ago and have been craving authentic pita and pita pies since coming home. Sunbake fulfills that wish to the fullest extent. They bake fresh pita daily and also have about a dozen types of "pies" which are basically toppings on Pita baked in a fire oven. I decided to grab a chicken shwarma pie and a package of pita. The pie cooked quickly and smelled unbelievable as I packed it into my car to take home. I couldn't wait to dig in! The wait was worth it. The pie was delicious! The chicken was spicy and moist and the pita was so soft and delicious and not at all oily. I will be back to try some of the other kinds which include some vegetarian as well as other meats.

A friend took me here one day and I have to say the Sunbake Pita chicken shawarma is delicious! It is the best shawarma in the city.. even though the only other place I have tried is la shish. I have never been to  Lebanon but my friend told me this is the closest to the real thing he has had in the city. They use  real saj bread and not a whole pita  that is hugging everything they can get their hands on. They keep things really authentic here.

La Shish doesn't even come close.

These are the best pitas you'll find for sale in a store! I first heard about this place because of an article in the Journal, and I've been going there ever since (a few years now). We usually load up on freshly baked pitas, some fatayers, and a few other things. If you can't make it to the North side, you'll also find their pitas at various stores around the city.

Sunbake Pita is great for four things:
    1- chicken on saj
    2- cheap lunch
    3- pita bread
    4- fatayer

After spending many teenage years living in Abu Dhabi, I have had more than my fair share of shawarmas. I also happen to live next to La Shish downtown. But it is Sunbake Pita Bakery I dream about at night.

At this busy joint you can get lunch for under $5: various fillings in a pita, baked like a pizza. I recommend za'atar (mixed dried herbs) and cheese or veggie. If it's payday and you have a few extra coins in your pocket and you want something a bit more substantial, grab a chicken on saj. As others have mentioned, the light crepe-y bread is wonderful around garlicky chicken with pickles.

While you're there, grab some pita bread (the best in Alberta, I'm sure. It's pillowy and light, with just a bit of chew, and tastes of woodfire) and some fatayer. They're doughy triangles filled with my favourite: spinach, but also can be found as beef or cheese.

It's a really casual joint, but there is a bar to eat at and a selection of Middle Eastern juices and sodas, and a nut bar. My only regret: they aren't open past 6pm and only start serving food at about 9am, I think.  Otherwise, I can't recommend it enough.
